We consider the Navier‐Stokes equations for viscous incompressible flows in the half‐plane under the no‐slip boundary condition. By using the vorticity formulation we prove the local‐in‐time convergence of the Navier‐Stokes flows to the Euler flows outside a boundary layer and to the Prandtl flows in the boundary layer in the inviscid limit when the initial vorticity is located away from the boundary. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

If a layer of viscous fluid drains steadily under gravity, whilein contact with an upward-moving vertical cylinder of a generalcross section with boundary CB its velocity w(x, y) satisfiesa Poisson equation wxx+wyy = g/v = constant. There are two boundaries,the given curve CB on which w takes a prescribed constant value,and a free boundary Cp marking the edge of the layer, whoseshape we wish to determine. In order to do this, we need twoboundary conditions on CF; one is the zero-stress conditionw/n = 0, and we assume that the other is that w is constantaround CF. The latter condition is shown to be equivalent toa requirement that the volume flux in the layer is maximal.The properties of the resulting free-boundary problem are discussed,and numerical solutions obtained for some special cases. Forexample, a solution for the case when CB is a 270? corner showsthat the layer thickness at the corner is reduced to 76% ofthe thickness on the flat part of the boundary. The presentanalysis is relevant to industrial coating problems, such asedge effects in continuous galvanizing of sheet steel. 相似文献

This paper gives a new viscous regularization of the Riemann problem for Burgers' equation u_t + (\frac{u²}{2})_z = 0 with Riemann initial data u = u_(x ≤ 0), u = u_+(x > 0} at t = 0. The regularization is given by u_t + (\frac{u²}{2})_z = εe^tu_{zz} with appropriate initial data. The method is different from the classical method, through comparison of three viscous equations of it. Here it is also shown that the difference of the three regularizations approaches zero in appropriate integral norms depending on the data as ε → 0_+ for any given T > 0. 相似文献

In cavitating flows there is a strong interaction between the fine dispersed vapor bubbles and turbulence. Therefore in two‐phase flow calculations the prediction of turbulence is a matter of great difficulties and uncertainties. To get an idea of the influence of turbulence modelling on the calculated result, viscous and inviscid two‐phase calculations of cavitating pump flow were performed. In the inviscid calculations the influence of cavitation is isolated from turbulence effects. In the viscous calculations the effect of turbulence is modelled with a k – ϵ turbulence model. The results show that the influence of viscous effects on the flow field is weak in comparison to cavitation. However, in contrast to the steady cavitation behaviour predicted by the viscous calculations, the inviscid calculations show unsteady behaviour of the cavitation (as can be seen in the experiment). 相似文献

A new analytic technique is applied to solve the unsteady viscous flow due to an infinite rotating disk, governed by a set
of two fully coupled nonlinear partial differential equations deduced directly from the exact Navier-Stokes equations. The
system of coupled nonlinear partial differential equations is replaced by a sequence of uncoupled systems of linear ordinary
differential equations. Different from all other previous analytic results, our series solution is accurate and valid for
all time in the whole spatial region. Accurate expressions for skin friction coefficients are given, which are valid for all
time. Such kind of series solutions have not been reported, to the best of our knowledge.

The authors study the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two incompressible immis- cible fluids with or without surface tension, evolving with a free interface in the presence of a uniform gravitational field in Eulerian coordinates. To deal with the free surface, instead of using the transformation to Lagrangian coordinates, the perturbed equations in Eule- rian coordinates are transformed to an integral form and the two-fluid flow is formulated as a single-fluid flow in a fixed domain, thus offering an alternative approach to deal with the jump conditions at the free interface. First, the linearized problem around the steady state which describes a denser immiscible fluid lying above a light one with a free interface separating the two fluids, both fluids being in (unstable) equilibrium is analyzed. By a general method of studying a family of modes, the smooth (when restricted to each fluid domain) solutions to the linearized problem that grow exponentially fast in time in Sobolev spaces are constructed, thus leading to a global instability result for the linearized problem. Then, by using these pathological solutions, the global instability for the corresponding nonlinear problem in an appropriate sense is demonstrated. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the compressible models of magnetohydrodynamic flows giving rise to a variety of mathematical problems in many areas. We derive a rigorous quasi-geostrophic equation governed by magnetic field from the rotational compressible magnetohydrodynamic flows with the well-prepared initial data. It is a first derivation of quasi-geostrophic equation governed by the magnetic field, and the tool is based on the relative entropy method. This paper covers two results: the existence of the unique local strong solution of quasi-geostrophic equation with the good regularity and the derivation of a quasi-geostrophic equation. 相似文献

Using the generalized characteristic analysis method, we study the two-dimensional Riemann problem for scalar conservation laws, which is nonconvex along the y direction, and interactions of its elementary waves, give the classification of initial discontinuities and construct all Riemann solutions, which Riemann data are two or three pieces of constants.
