We study traveling wave solutions to a system of four non‐linear partial differential equations, which arise in a tissue interaction model for skin morphogenesis. Under the assumption that the strength of attachment of the epidermis to the basal lamina is sufficiently large, we prove the existence and uniqueness (up to a translation) of traveling wave solutions connecting two stationary states of the system with the dermis and epidermis cell densities being positive. We discuss the problem of the minimal wave speed. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This article studies the existence of traveling wave solutions in an integrodifference equation with weak compactness. Because of the special kernel function that may depend on the Dirac function, traveling wave maps have lower regularity such that it is difficult to directly look for a traveling wave solution in the uniformly continuous and bounded functional space. In this paper, by introducing a proper set of potential wave profiles, we can obtain the existence and precise asymptotic behavior of nontrivial traveling wave solutions, during which we do not require the monotonicity of this model.  相似文献

Many reaction–diffusion models produce traveling wave solutions that can be interpreted as waves of invasion in biological scenarios such as wound healing or tumor growth. These partial differential equation models have since been adapted to describe the interactions between cells and extracellular matrix (ECM), using a variety of different underlying assumptions. In this work, we derive a system of reaction–diffusion equations, with cross-species density-dependent diffusion, by coarse-graining an agent-based, volume-filling model of cell invasion into ECM. We study the resulting traveling wave solutions both numerically and analytically across various parameter regimes. Subsequently, we perform a systematic comparison between the behaviors observed in this model and those predicted by simpler models in the literature that do not take into account volume-filling effects in the same way. Our study justifies the use of some of these simpler, more analytically tractable models in reproducing the qualitative properties of the solutions in some parameter regimes, but it also reveals some interesting properties arising from the introduction of cell and ECM volume-filling effects, where standard model simplifications might not be appropriate.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the traveling wave solutions of a delayed diffusive SIR epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rate and constant external supplies. We find that the existence of traveling wave solutions is determined by the basic reproduction number of the corresponding spatial‐homogenous delay differential system and the minimal wave speed. The existence is proved by applying Schauder's fixed point theorem and Lyapunov functional method. The non‐existence of traveling waves is obtained by two‐sided Laplace transform. In this paper, we investigate exact traveling wave solutions of the fourth‐order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with dual‐power law nonlinearity through Kudryashov method and (G'/G)‐expansion method. We obtain miscellaneous traveling waves including kink, antikink, and breather solutions. These solutions may be useful in the explanation and understanding of physical behavior of the wave propagation in a highly dispersive optical medium. Abstract A continuous reaction–diffusion model is developed for the invasive Argentine ant population within a preserve in northern California. The model is a second‐order partial differential equation incorporating a logistic growth term. The dispersal distance traveled during the reproductive process of budding is used to estimate the diffusion coefficient. The model has two homogeneous steady states, one occurring at the propagation front where the Argentine ant population does not yet exist and one occurring where the population has reached carrying capacity. The traveling wave solutions of the model depict the population density for a given time and location. Using current research, parameter values for the model are estimated and a traveling wave solution for the average parameter values is numerically demonstrated.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the bifurcation method of dynamical systems to study the traveling wave solutions for the Davey–Stewartson equation. A number of traveling wave solutions are obtained. Those solutions contain explicit periodic wave solutions, periodic blow‐up wave solutions, unbounded wave solutions, kink profile solitary wave solutions, and solitary wave solutions. Relations of the traveling wave solutions are given. Some previous results are extended. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We address the existence of moving gap solitons (traveling localized solutions) in the Gross–Pitaevskii equation with a small periodic potential. Moving gap solitons are approximated by the explicit solutions of the coupled‐mode system. We show, however, that exponentially decaying traveling solutions of the Gross–Pitaevskii equation do not generally exist in the presence of a periodic potential due to bounded oscillatory tails ahead and behind the moving solitary waves. The oscillatory tails are not accounted in the coupled‐mode formalism and are estimated by using techniques of spatial dynamics and local center‐stable manifold reductions. Existence of bounded traveling solutions of the Gross–Pitaevskii equation with a single bump surrounded by oscillatory tails on a large interval of the spatial scale is proven by using these techniques. In this paper we study traveling wave solutions of a non-cooperative lattice-diffusion system with time delay, which includes predator–prey models and disease-transmission models. Minimal wave speed of traveling wave solutions is given. Schauder’s fixed-point theorem is applied to show the existence of semi-traveling wave solutions. The boundness and persistence of traveling wave solutions are overcome by using rescaling method and Laplace transform, where the application of Laplace transform to persistence is very novel and creative. The traveling wave solutions for some specific models are shown to connect to a positive equilibrium by using Lyapunov function and LaSalle’s invariance principle.  相似文献

Some Reaction‐Diffusion equations present solutions of the traveling wave form. In this work, we present an implicit numerical scheme based on finite difference originally proposed to solve hyperbolic equations. Then, this method is improved using a pseudospectral approach to discretize the spatial variable. The results prove that this new scheme is useful to solve equations of the parabolic type which presents traveling wave solutions. In particular, problems where a reduction in the number of discretization points and an increase of the size of the time step play an important role in their solution are considered. The implicit scheme presented involves the solution of linear systems only. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 32: 86–105, 2016  相似文献

The Evans function is a Wronskian type determinant used to detect point spectrum of differential operators obtained by linearizing PDEs about special solutions such as traveling waves, etc. This work is a sequel to the paper “Derivatives of (modified) Fredholm determinants and stability of standing and traveling waves”, published by F. Gesztesy, K. Zumbrun and the second author in J. Math. Pures Appl. 90 , 160–200 (2008), where the Evans and Jost functions for the Schrödinger equations have been considered. In the current work, we study the Evans function for the general case of linear ODE systems, and choose it to agree with the modified Fredholm determinant of the respective Birman‐Schwinger type integral operator. The Evans function is thus the determinant of the matrix composed of the so‐called generalized Jost solutions. These are the solutions of the homogeneous perturbed differential equation which are asymptotic to some reference solutions of the unperturbed equation. One of the main results of the current paper is a formula for the derivative of the Evans function for the first order systems. Its proof uses a matrix composed of the newly introduced modified Jost solutions. These are the solutions of an inhomogeneous perturbed differential equation with the inhomogeneous term constructed by means of the above‐mentioned generalized Jost solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a reaction‐diffusion system to describe the spread of infectious diseases within two population groups by self and criss‐cross infection mechanism. Firstly, based on the eigenvalues, we give two methods for the calculation of the critical wave speed c?. Secondly, by constructing a pair of upper‐lower solutions and using the Schauder fixed‐point theorem, we prove that the system admits positive traveling wave solutions, which connect the initial disease‐free equilibrium at t = ?, but the traveling waves need not connect the final disease‐free equilibrium at t = +. Hence, we study the asymptotic behaviors of the traveling wave solutions to show that the traveling wave solutions converge to at t = +. Finally, by the two‐sided Laplace transform, we establish the nonexistence of traveling waves for the model. The approach in this paper provides an effective method to deal with the existence of traveling wave solutions for the nonmonotone reaction‐diffusion systems consisting of four equations.  相似文献

This paper deals with the existence of traveling wave solutions for n‐dimensional delayed reaction–diffusion systems. By using Schauder's fixed point theorem, we establish the existence result of a traveling wave solution connecting two steady states by constructing a pair of upper–lower solutions that are easy to construct. As an application, we apply our main results to a four‐dimensional delayed predator–prey system and obtain the existence of traveling wave solutions. In this paper, we consider the existence of traveling wave solutions in delayed higher dimensional lattice differential systems with partial monotonicity. By relaxing the monotonicity of the upper solutions and allowing it greater than positive equilibrium point, we establish the existence of traveling wave solutions by means of Schauder's fixed point theorem. And then, we apply our results to delayed competition‐cooperation systems on higher dimensional lattices.  相似文献

This paper deals with the existence of traveling wave solutions of a class of delayed system of lattice differential equations, which formulates the invasion process when two competitive species are invaders. Employing the comparison principle of competitive systems, a new cross-iteration scheme is given to establish the existence of traveling wave solutions. More precisely, by the cross-iteration, the existence of traveling wave solutions is reduced to the existence of an admissible pair of upper and lower solutions. To illustrate our main results, we prove the existence of traveling wave solutions in two delayed two-species competition systems with spatial discretization. Our results imply that the delay appeared in the interspecific competition terms do not affect the existence of traveling wave solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, we study Raman soliton model in nanoscale optical waveguides with metamaterials, having polynomial law non-linearity. By using the bifurcation theory method of dynamical systems to the equations of $\phi(\xi)$, under 24 different parameter conditions, we obtain bifurcations of phase portraits and different traveling wave solutions including periodic solutions, homoclinic and heteroclinic solutions for planar dynamical system of the Raman soliton model. Under different parameter conditions, 24 exact explicit parametric representations of the traveling wave solutions are derived. The dynamic behavior of these traveling wave solutions are meaningful and helpful for us to understand the physical structures of the model.  相似文献

This paper deals with the solutions defined for all time of the KPP equation ut = uxx + f(u),   0 < u(x,t) < 1, (x,t) ∈ ℝ2, where ƒ is a KPP‐type nonlinearity defined in [0,1]: ƒ(0) = ƒ(1) = 0, ƒ′(0) > 0, ƒ′(1) < 0, ƒ > 0 in (0,1), and ƒ′(s) ≤ ƒ′(0) in [0,1]. This equation admits infinitely many traveling‐wave‐type solutions, increasing or decreasing in x. It also admits solutions that depend only on t. In this paper, we build four other manifolds of solutions: One is 5‐dimensional, one is 4‐dimensional, and two are 3‐dimensional. Some of these new solutions are obtained by considering two traveling waves that come from both sides of the real axis and mix. Furthermore, the traveling‐wave solutions are on the boundary of these four manifolds. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

When one characteristic of the system is linearly degenerate, under suitable boundary conditions, we get the existence of traveling wave solutions located on the corresponding characteristic trajectory to the one‐sided mixed initial‐boundary value problem. When the system is linearly degenerate, by introducing the semi‐global normalized coordinates, we derive the related formulas of wave decomposition to prove the stability of traveling wave solutions corresponding to all leftward and the rightmost characteristic trajectories. Finally, for the traveling wave solutions corresponding to other rightward characteristic trajectories, some examples show their possible instability. This paper is concerned with the existence and non-existence of traveling wave solutions of reaction-diffusion-advection equation with boundary conditions of mixed type in unbounded cylinder. By constructing new supper-sub solutions and applying monotone iteration method, we obtain existence of traveling wave solutions with wave velocity bigger than the “minimal speed”. For wave velocity smaller than the “minimal speed”, we find that traveling waves of exponential decay do not exist. Finally, we apply our results to KPP type nonlinearity.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate the existence and non-existence of traveling wave solutions for a chemotaxis model with two chemoattractants. To prove our main results, we apply the dynamical systems theory by constructing a positively invariant set in the four-dimensional space. Particularly, we analyze the monotonicity of traveling wave solutions.  相似文献
