We report linear polarization-insensitive detection of optical phase modulation in an adaptive interferometer based on transient two-wave mixing via dynamic population gratings in saturable Er-doped fiber (EDF). The proposed simple and robust configuration has an all-fiber design based on commercially available elements which makes it promising for applications in optical fiber interferometric sensors and coherent optical communication systems. The experimentally investigated single-mode polarization-maintaining EDF arrangement operated at 1492 nm and demonstrated efficient compensation of the polarization drifts below 100 Hz.  相似文献

Experimental observation of phase (i.e. refractive index) component in the dynamic gratings recorded in erbium-doped optical fiber with saturation of optical absorption is reported. We utilized configuration of transient two-wave mixing with rectangular phase modulation of one of counterpropagating recording waves, where unshifted phase grating resulted in a transient energy exchange. The reported experiments were performed with heavily doped (≈5400 ppm erbium) fibers in a wide spectral range of Er3+ fundamental absorption at selected laser wavelengths 1492, 1526, 1549, and 1568 nm. Relative contribution of phase grating was especially large (up to ≈100% of the maximal amplitude component) at the opposite sides of the investigated spectral range and was significantly lower in its central part. The amplitude grating was found especially strong at short wavelength side of the spectrum (i.e. at 1492 nm), where the grating amplitude proved to be only two times lower than the theoretically predicted from consideration of two-level model.  相似文献

Theoretical analysis of the transient two-wave mixing (TWM) of two continuous waves with rectangular phase modulation counter-propagating through the Er-doped optical fiber is presented. Approximate analytic solutions obtained for undepleted interacting waves of low power (neglecting large-scale saturation of the fiber optical absorption) and of high power (with significant spatially uniform large-scale absorption saturation) are complemented by numerical simulation for a broad region of the recording light power. The experimental dependence of the TWM efficiency on the recording power obtained for a single-mode fiber with ?640 ppm erbium concentration and with initial optical density ≈8.4 at λ = 1526 nm demonstrated the initial, growing and decaying parts predicted theoretically. The maximum experimentally observed relative TWM signal amplitude proved to be approximately 3 times lower than expected.  相似文献

We report on remote and contactless photoacoustic imaging (PAI) for the inspection of solid materials using a two-wave mixing interferometer. In this Letter, a semitransparent sample was excited with picosecond laser pulses. The local absorption of the electromagnetic radiation led to generation of broadband ultrasonic waves inside the sample. Ultrasonic waves arriving at the sample surface were detected utilizing a two-wave mixing interferometer. After data acquisition, the initial pressure distribution was reconstructed using a Fourier space synthetic aperture technique algorithm. We show the potential of PAI for the inspection of semitransparent solid materials.  相似文献

We report controllable (slow or fast) propagation of low-intensity probe-light pulses through erbium-doped fiber periodically saturated by the synchronized master-pulse sequence. These two pulse sequences could have significantly different carrier wavelengths within the fundamental absorption spectrum 1470-1570 nm of Er(+3) ions. The effect of fractional delay or advancement grew with the fiber optical absorption at the probe wavelength and could be significantly stronger than that at the saturating wavelength. The probe-pulse advancement was observed in the case when the saturating and probe waves were modulated approximately in antiphase. The observed effects are explained in the framework of a simple model of a periodically saturated homogeneously broadened absorption line.  相似文献

We investigate the dynamics of an erbium-doped fiber ring laser that is equipped with an intracavity hollow core photonic crystal fiber gas cell. The cell is filled with acetylene as a saturable absorber. We observe cw operation at low pressures, Q switching at intermediate pressure levels, and mode locking at high pressures applied. Moreover, we show that the transition from the cw to the pulsed mode may be exploited for sensitive gas detection.  相似文献

An all-optical tunable narrow-band filter with an ultrafast response time of 10 ps is realized in a two-dimensional nonlinear polystyrene photonic crystal. The pump and probe scheme is adopted to measure tunability based on the picosecond optical Kerr effect. The passband of the photonic crystal filter shifts about 4 nm under excitation of 14.7 GW/cm2 pump intensity, which is in agreement with the theoretical prediction. The theory and experimental verification of an optical current sensor based on an extrinsic Sagnac interferometer configuration is presented. Four-wave mixing (FWM) is a significant nonlinear effect in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) fiber-optic systems. For two-wave transmission, it is easily found that the FWM noise power decreases with frequency spacing and increases with signal power. However, the variation of relative intensity noise (RIN) with frequency spacing and signal power is only 2 dB at most. The intensity fluctuations induced by the energy exchange between the FWM generated new waves and the original ones are trivial and the influence of FWM on RIN can be neglected. It is also found that the increase of RIN with signal power is mainly attributed to stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) rather than FWM.  相似文献

Passive harmonic mode locking of an erbium-doped fiber laser based on few-layer molybdenum disulfide(MoS2)saturable absorber(SA) is demonstrated. The few-layer MoS2 is prepared by the chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method and then transferred onto the end face of a fiber connector to form a fiber-compatible Mo S2SA. The 20 th harmonic modelocked pulses at 216-MHz repetition rate are stably generated with a pulse duration of 1.42 ps and side-mode suppression ratio(SMSR) of 36.1dB. The results confirm that few-layer MoS2 can serve as an effective SA for mode-locked fiber lasers.  相似文献

We report and demonstrate an optical refractometer based on a compact fiber Michelson interferometer. The Michelson interferometer is composed of an asymmetrical twin-core fiber containing a central core and a side core. By chemically etching a segment of the twin-core fiber until the side core is exposed, the effective index of the side core in the etched region is sensitive to the environmental refractive index, which leads to a shift of the transmission spectrum of the Michelson interferometer. The experimental results show that such a device has a refractive index resolution of more than 800 nm/refractive index unit in the range of 1.34-1.37.  相似文献

We present the numerical results of the photorefractive two-wave mixing in the presence of an incoherent beam by considering the influence of the ratios of the intensities and the light-excitation cross sections of the incoherent beam to the coherent beams on the space-charge field and the effective coupling coefficient. The results show that the incoherent beam can control the intensity of the coherent beams effectively. The experimental results agree with the theory well. One application is demonstrated to obtain the positive and negative coherent replicas of an incoherent image. The coherent images have a resolution of 80.6 line pairs/mm. A pulsed laser system is realized with graphene employed as a Q-switch.The graphene is exfoliated from its solution using an optical deposition and the optical tweezer effect.A fiber ferrule that already has the graphene deposited on it is inserted into an erbium-ytterbium laser(EYL)system with linear cavity configuration.We successfully demonstrate a pulsed EYL with a pulse duration of approximately 5.9μs and a repetition rate of 20.0 kHz.  相似文献

A simple refractive index sensor based on a Michelson interferometer in a single-mode fiber is constructed and demonstrated. The sensor consists of a single symmetrically abrupt taper region in a short piece of single-mode fiber that is terminated by approximately 500 nm thick gold coating. The sensitivity of the new sensor is similar to that of a long-period-grating-type sensor, and its ease of fabrication offers a low-cost alternative to current sensing applications.  相似文献

An all-optical fiber nonlinear Fabry-Perot resonator is proposed. The steady-state model for describing this resonator is developed. The transmission and refection bistabilities are shown numerically. Our results show that the bistability in this system is similar to that in a normal nonlinear Fabry-Perot etalon, except that the characteristics of the bistability can be changed not only by the cavity length but also by the phase shifts of the fiber loop mirrors.  相似文献

A novel multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser operating in C-band is proposed and successfully demonstrated. The wavelength interval between the wavelengths is about 0.22 nm. The 3 dB bandwidth of the laser is about 0.012 nm, and the output power reaches 4.8 mW. By using a high birefringence fiber ring mirror (HiBi-FLM) and a tunable FBG, the laser realizes switchable and tunable characteristic. The mode hopping can be effectively prevented. Moreover, this laser can improve wavelength stability significantly by taking advantage of an un-pumped Er3+-doped fiber at the standing-wave section. The laser can operate in stable narrow-line-width with single-, dual-wavelength, and unstable triple-wavelength output at room temperature.  相似文献

We propose and implement the scheme of a whole-fiber double-polarization ring interferometer based on an isotropic fiber for gyroscopy purposes. The results of an experimental study of the output signal of the interferometer based on the proposed scheme are presented. The shift of the zero point of the interferometer signal (at a level of 3°/h) and the drift of the zero point (at a level of 1°/h) are determined. The rotation sensitivity of the interferometer is measured.
