By separating the mixture of bases obtained from the fresh epigeal part ofKorolkowia sewerzowii Rgl. with respect to solubility in different solvents, the alkaloids korseverine, korsinine, korsine, korseveriline, korseveridine, korseveramine, and korseverinine have been been isolated.2. Polyhydroxysteroids from the Far-Eastern starfishCtenodiscus crispatus

Steroid compounds of marine sponges. VII. Preparation of derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol sulfates and structure-activity interrelationships among these compounds

Five new sulfated derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol have been obtained: 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate); 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate) 23-palmitate; 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 3-(sodium sulfate); 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 6-(sodium sulfate); and 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 2,6-di(sodium sulfate). The inhibiting and membranolytic properties of the polysulfated steroids from sponges and their derivatives have been studied. Dynamic shear modulus in the splitting region of poly(alkyl methacrylates)

A systematic study of the dynamic shear modulusG ^*=G+G in three poly(alkyl methacrylates) (PEMA, PnPMA, PnBMA) at frequencies between 0.001 and 500 rad/s is presented. As the splitting frequencies _s are low, aging effects can be observed in the splitting region. There is a systematic shift of the splitting frequency _s to lower values with increasing length of the alkyl side group. In PnBMA a separate shear appearance is observed about two frequency decades below the local mode . This is discussed in terms of the concept of minimal cooperativity. Aging effects are: Shift of the maximum loss frequency to lower values, peak sharpening of the relaxation, and intensity changes of and . These effects are discussed in terms of the sequential aging concept. Aging leads to a pronounced bending of the traces upwards from the equilibrium line in the Arrhenius diagram. These non-equilibrium phenomena are promoted by the small slope m=d(log )/dT of the trace in the splitting region.Dedicated to Prof. E. W. Synthesis of α, α, ω-trihydropolyfluoroalkyl chlorophosphates by the reaction between α,α,ω-trihydropolyfluoroalkyl phosphites and sulfuryl chloride

Conclusions An efficient method for the synthesis of ,,-trihydropolyfluoroalkyl chlorophosphates is by reacting ,,-trihydropolyfluoroalkyl dichlorophosphites and bis-(,,-trihydropolyfluoroalkyl) phosphites with sulfuryl chloride. It has been found that in three-coordinated polyfluoroalkyl phosphites, the high electronegativity of the polyfluoroalkyl groups hinders cleavage of the latter on reaction with sulfuryl chloride, thereby facilitating the formation of oxidation products.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 1, pp. 146–149, January, 1988.     

Synthesis of α-alkyl- and α,α-dialkyl-β-phenyltryptamines

A new method was developed for the synthesis of -alkyl- and ,-dialkyl--phenyltryptamines based on alkylation of nitroalkanes with -phenyl-nor-gramine.     

Solvent/water partitioning of dimethylmethylphosphonate (DMMP) as a probe of solvent acidity

Experimentally determined partition coefficients for DMMP between NaCl-saturated water and 20 solvents were correlated using the solvatochromic parameters , , and ^*. An inverted LSER was then used to predict for 7 additional solvents. The new cohesion parameters and ^*2 were found to be more representative of cavity formation than _H ² . Most importantly, it was essential to include either or _H ² in the LSER. The partition method appears to be a useful adjunct to solvatochromic techniques in refining and extending the scale of solvent acidity and could be used to rationalize solvent selection in extraction processes.

The synthesis of the following neutral plasmalogens has been effected: -O-(octadec-1-enyl)-, distearoylglycerol, -O-(octadec-1-enyl)-, -dipalmitoylglycerol, -O-(hexadec-1-enyl)-, -distearoylglycerol, and -O-(pentadec-1-enyl)-, -dipalmitoylglycerol.2. During the synthesis, the following compounds were isolated and characterized by their physicochemical constants: the -octadec-1-enyl ether of glycerol, -(2-hydroxyoctadecyl) , -isopropylideneglyceryl ether, the tosylate of -(2-hydroxyoctadecyl) , -isopropylideneglyceryl ether, and -O-(2-tosyloxyoctadecyl) glycerol.3. Effect of LET on the radiolysis of cyclopentane

The - and -radiolysis of cyclopentane were compared in the presence and absence of iodine scavenger. The G-values of the main hydrocarbon products, cyclopentene and bicyclopentyl are 2.22 and 0.56 molecule/100 eV in -radiolysis and 3.25 and 1.23, respectively, in -radiolysis. During high LET -irradiation the yields of products formed by a radical mechanism are much smaller (G=1.18) than in -radiolysis (G=2.68), whereas unimolecular cyclopentene formation is hardly influenced by LET (G=1.8 and 1.6, respectively).     

Steroid compounds from the Pacific starfishesLuidia quinaria andDistolasterias elegans

One new and four previously known steroid compounds were identified from the Pacific starfishesLuidia quinaria andDistolasterias elegans. The structure of the new steroid was established from spectral data and chemical correlations with other steroids such as 5-cholestane-3,5,6,15,16,26-hexaol 3-sulfate (1). The previously known compounds were identified as 5-cholestane-3,5,6,15,26-pentaol 15-sulfate (2) fromLuidia quinaria and sodium (24S)-O-(-d-giucopyranosyll-5-cholestane-3,6,8,15,24-pentaol 6-sulfate (3), sodium (24S)-5-cholestane-3,6,8,15,24-pentaol 24-sulfate (4), and sodium tornasterol A sulfate (5).Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Structural modification of silica-containing α-zirconium phosphate

Silica-containing -zirconium phosphate (-ZrSiP) was prepared by the precipitation method. X-ray diffractometry was used to characterize -ZrSiP and to compare it with other -zirconium phosphates (ZrP). A monoclinic cell with parameters of a=0.9038 nm, b=0.529 nm, c=1.4183 nm and =91.76° was identified for -ZrSiP, i.e. silica modifies the original -ZrP structure. The specific surface area of -ZrSiP was found to be two orders of magnitude higher then that of -ZrP.     

Ab Initio Study of Prednisolone, 6α-Fluoroprednisolone, 9α-Fluoroprednisolone,and 6α,9α-Difluoroprednisolone

A theoretical study of prednisolone, 6-fluoroprednisolone, 9-fluoroprednisolone, and 6,9-difluoroprednisolone has been performed at the ab initio HF/6-31G, MP2/6-31G, and B3LYP/6-31G levels. Structural information and the electronic features of prednisolone and its derivatives and the synergistic effect of 6,9-difluoroprednisolone was examined. Contrary to the AM1 and MNDO results, we found 9-fluoroprednisolone is more stable than the 6-fluoroprednisolone. The increased corticosteroid activity of the 6,9-difluoroprednisolone is most likely due to electronic effects, mainly related to the receptor binding.     

Steroid compounds from the starfish Lysastrosoma anthosticta collected in the Sea of Japan

Six polyhydroxylated steroids and their derivatives were isolated from the starfish Lysastrosoma anthosticta collected in the Posyet Bay, Sea of Japan. These include a new glycoside of the steroid polyol, lysastroside A (1), which was identified as (25S)-26-O--d-xylopyranosyl-5-cholestane-3,6,8,15,16,26-hexaol, and the previously known pycnopodioside C monoglycoside (2), marthasterone sulfate (3), (25S)-5-cholestane-3,6,8,15,16,26-hexaol (4), (25S)-5-cholestane-3,6,7,8,15,16,26-heptaol (5), and (25S)-5-cholestane-3,6,7,8,15,16,26-heptaol (6). The compounds were tested for the haemolytic activity and the action on the embryogenesis of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius.     

Oxidative transformations of labdane diols. III. Preparation of acids with a strobane skeleton from larixol

Separation of carrier free65Zn and66,67,68Ga, the alpha-particle activation products of copper with HDEHP

A radiochemical charged particle activation procedure has been developed for the production and separation of the carrier free radioisotopes,⁶⁵Zn and^66,67,68Ga. The carrier free radioisotopes produced by the irradiation of a pure copper foil with 50 MeV -particle beam through the nuclear reactions, (, pxn), (,pxn) and (,xn), have been quantitatively separated from the activated copper matrix from an aqueous hydrochloric acid and an alkaline solution using the liquid cation exchanger HDEHP, as an extractant. Detection of different radionuclides in the activated copper target and verification of their purity at different stages of their LLX separation have been performed by -ray spectrometric studies.     

Transformed steroids 117. Synthesis of 5α-hydroxy-6-oxosteroids with a δ-lactone ring E

The paper is devoted to the synthesis of steroidal 5-hydroxy-6-oxolactones from ethyl esters of 5,6-dienic acids. By epoxidating the latter it has been shown that, in addition to the usual formation of 5,6-oxides, opening of the 16, 17-oxide ring initially formed takes place and this is accompanied by intramolecular cyclization to a 17,20-dihydroxy--lactone. The trans-opening of the 5,6-epoxide in the epoxy--lactone and subsequent oxidation with N-bromosuccinimide has led to a new representative of steroidal -lactones — the 23,16--lactone of the 3-acetate of 3, 5, 16, 17, 20-pentahydroxy-6-oxo-24-norcholan-23-oic acid.N. Synthesis and transformations of the 20-substituted derivatives of 16α,17α-epoxy-5α-pregnane-3Β,21-diol-20-ones

A new and more effective sequence of reactions is proposed for the production of 16,17-isopropylidenedioxy-5-pregnane-3,21-diol-20-one. It uses methods previously unused for 5-H-steroids and involves 21-hydroxylation of 16,17-epoxy-5-pregnan-3-ol-20-one with diacetoxyiodobenzene and cis-opening of the obtained 21-hydroxy-16,17-epoxy-5-pregnane-3,21-diol-20-one by acetic acid in the presence of epoxycarbonylhydrazine, followed by condensation of the obtained product with acetone.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 5, pp. 1185–1188, May, 1991.     

Complex polarizability as used to analyze dielectric relaxation measurements

The effect of representing dielectric properties in terms of the complex polarizability ^c = – i is examined. Loss curves ( and tan ) are shifted towards higher frequencies, revealing the existence of new relaxations and allowing the clarifications of ones already known. We have calculated the shift ratios (at maximum or tan )/ (at maximum or tan ) from the more conventional empirical equations representing the dielectric behavior. Some examples are given.     

Study of the rotational isomerism about the C-O bond in six-membered secondary-tertiary diols

We have determined the spectroscopic characteristics, the dipole moments, and the Kerr constants of the stereoisomers of the secondary-tertiary diols of the cyclohexane and bicyclo [4.1.0]pentane series: 3,4-dihydroxy-3-carane (I), 3,4-dihydroxy-3-methylnorcarane (II), 3,4-dihydroxy-3-methylnorcarane (III), 4, 5-dihydroxy-3-methylcyclohexene (IV), 3,4-dihydroxy-3-carane (V), 3,4-dihydroxy-3-methylnorcarane (VI), 3, 4-dihydroxy-3-carane (VII), and 3,4-dihydroxy-4-methyl-3-carane (VIII). It was found that the cis diols are more polar than their trans isomers.
