On lower bounds for the widths of classes of functions defined by integral moduli of continuity

We establish lower bounds for the Kolmogorov widths d _2n-1(W ^r H ₁^ω.L _p ) and Gel’fand widths d ^2n-1(W ^r H ₁^ω.L _p ) of the classes of functions W ^r H ₁^ω with a convex integral modulus of continuity ω(t).     

Widths in L2 of classes of differentiable functions,defined by higher-order moduli of continuity

Sharp inequalities are obtained in the space L₂, connecting the best approximations of differentiable 2-periodic functions by trigonometric polynomials with integrals containing the higher-order moduli of continuity of the derivatives of these functions. On certain classes of analytic functions defined by Noor integral operator

Integral operator, introduced by Noor, is defined by using convolution. Let f_n(z)=z/(1−z)ⁿ⁺¹, n∈N₀, and let f be analytic in the unit disc E. Then I_nf=f⁽⁻¹⁾_n★f, where f_n★f⁽⁻¹⁾_n=z/(1−z). Using this operator, certain classes of analytic functions, related with the classes of functions with bounded boundary rotation and bounded boundary radius rotation, are defined and studied in detail. Some basic properties, rate of growth of coefficients, and a radius problem are investigated. It is shown that these classes are closed under convolution with convex functions. Most of the results are best possible in some sense.     

On extremal problems related to integral transforms of a class of analytic functions

Best approximations of classes of functions defined by means of the modulus of continuity

This paper is devoted to an exact solution of problems of best approximation in the uniform and integral metrics of classes of periodic functions representable as a convolution of a kernel not increasing the oscillation with functions having a given convex upwards majorant of the modulus of continuity. The approximating sets are taken to be the trigonometric polynomials in the case of the uniform and integral metrics, and convolutions of the kernel defining the class with polynomial splines in the case of the integral metric.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 44, No. 5, pp. 579–589, May, 1992.     

On classes of analytic functions defined by convolution with incomplete beta functions

Carlson and Shaffer [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 15 (1984) 737-745] defined a convolution operator L(a,c) on the class A of analytic functions involving an incomplete beta function ?(a,c;z) as L(a,c)f=?(a,c)?f. We use this operator to introduce certain classes of analytic functions in the unit disk and study their properties including some inclusion results, coefficient and radius problems. It is shown that these classes are closed under convolution with convex functions.     

The continuity of superposition operators on some sequence spaces defined by moduli

Let λ and μ be solid sequence spaces. For a sequence of modulus functions Φ = (ϕ k) let λ(Φ) = {x = (x _k ): (ϕk(|x _k |)) ∈ λ}. Given another sequence of modulus functions Ψ = (ψ_k), we characterize the continuity of the superposition operators P _f from λ(Φ) into μ (Ψ) for some Banach sequence spaces λ and μ under the assumptions that the moduli ϕk (k ∈ ℕ) are unbounded and the topologies on the sequence spaces λ(Φ) and μ(Ψ) are given by certain F-norms. As applications we consider superposition operators on some multiplier sequence spaces of Maddox type. This research was supported by Estonian Science Foundation Grant 5376.     

On approximate characteristics of functions of many variables occurring in saturation classes of continuity moduli of different order

On the univalence of functions defined by certain integral transforms

The integral transform $\text{F(z) = ∝}{}_0{}^{\mathrm{z}}\text{(f′(t))}{}^{\mathrm{\alpha }}\text{(}\text{g(t)}\text{t}\text{)}{}^{\mathrm{\beta }}\text{dt}$, where α and β are real, of pairs of special analytic functions f(z) = z + ···, g(z) = z + ···, univalent in the open unit disc Δ is studied. The transform and our results extend some recent results due to Shirakova.     

On continuity properties of some classes of vector-valued functions

We extend the V BG* property to the context of vector-valued functions and give some characterizations of this property. Necessary and sufficient conditions for vector-valued VBG* functions to be continuous or weakly continuous, except at most on a countable set, are obtained.     

The boundary distortion and extremal problems in certain classes of univalent functions

We consider the class S₁(τ), 0<τ<1, of functions f(z)=rz+a₂z²+... that are regular and univalent in the unit disk U and have |f(z)|<1. We obtain sharp estimates for the 1-measure of the sets {θ: |f(e^iθ)|=1}. As a corollary, for the familiar class S we find Kolmogorov-type estimates for the sets {θ: |f(e^iθ)|>M}, M>1, and prove inequalities for the harmonic measure, which are similar to those by Carleman-Milloux and Baernstein. We also consider problems on distortion of fixed systems of boundary arcs in the classes of functions that are regular (or meromorphic) and univalent in the disk or circular annulus. Asymptotic equalities for best approximations for classes of infinitely differentiable functions defined by the modulus of continuity

We obtain asymptotic estimates for best approximations by trigonometric polynomials in the metric of the space C(L_p) for classes of periodic functions expressible as convolutions of kernels Ψ_β with Fourier coefficients decreasing to zero faster than any power sequence, and with functions ? ∈ C (? ∈ L_p) whose moduli of continuity do not exceed the given majorant of ω(t). It is proved that, in the spaces C and L₁, for convex moduli of continuity ω(t), the obtained estimates are asymptotically sharp.
