Drawdown measures the decline of portfolio value from its historic high-water mark. In this paper, we study a lifetime investment problem aiming at minimizing the risk of drawdown occurrences. Under the Black–Scholes framework, we examine two financial market models: a market with two risky assets, and a market with a risk-free asset and a risky asset. Closed-form optimal trading strategies are derived under both models by utilizing a decomposition technique on the associated Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation. We show that it is optimal to minimize the portfolio variance when the fund value is at its historic high-water mark. Moreover, when the fund value drops, the proportion of wealth invested in the asset with a higher instantaneous rate of return should be increased. We find that the instantaneous return rate of the minimum lifetime drawdown probability (MLDP) portfolio is never less than the return rate of the minimum variance (MV) portfolio. This supports the practical use of drawdown-based performance measures in which the role of volatility is replaced by drawdown.  相似文献

A one-period financial market model with transaction costs is considered in this paper. Redefining the risky asset price process in a suitable way, we obtain an explicit solution to the utility maximization problem when the risk preferences of the investor are based on the exponential utility function and a liability can be included in her portfolio. The arbitrage-free interval price for a general liability, as well as its replication price, is characterized in terms of expectations with respect to equivalent martingale measures. The indifference price is derived and its asymptotic limit when the risk aversion is going to infinity is analysed.  相似文献

We consider an insurance risk model for the cashflow of an insurance company, which invests its reserve into a portfolio consisting of risky and riskless assets. The price of the risky asset is modeled by an exponential Lévy process. We derive the integrated risk process and the corresponding discounted net loss process. We calculate certain quantities as characteristic functions and moments. We also show under weak conditions stationarity of the discounted net loss process and derive the left and right tail behavior of the model. Our results show that the model carries a high risk, which may originate either from large insurance claims or from the risky investment.  相似文献

This study examines the demand for index bonds and their role in hedging risky asset returns against currency risks in a complete market where equity is not hedged against inflation risk. Avellaneda's uncertain volatility model with non-constant coefficients to describe equity price variation, forward price variation, index bond price variation and rate of inflation, together with Merton's intertemporal portfolio choice model, are utilized to enable an investor to choose an optimal portfolio consisting of equity, nominal bonds and index bonds when the rate of inflation is uncertain. A hedge ratio is universal if investors in different countries hedge against currency risk to the same extent. Three universal hedge ratios (UHRs) are defined with respect to the investor's total demand for index bonds, hedging risky asset returns (i.e. equity and nominal bonds) against currency risk, which are not held for hedging purposes. These UHRs are hedge positions in foreign index bond portfolios, stated as a fraction of the national market portfolio. At equilibrium all the three UHRs are comparable to Black's corrected equilibrium hedging ratio. The Cameron-Martin-Girsanov theorem is applied to show that the Radon-Nikodym derivative given under a P -martingale, the investor's exchange rate (product of the two currencies) is a martingale. Therefore the investors can agree on a common hedging strategy to trade exchange rate risk irrespective of investor nationality. This makes the choice of the measurement currency irrelevant and the hedge ratio universal without affecting their values.  相似文献

We consider a financial market model with a single risky asset whose price process evolves according to a general jump-diffusion with locally bounded coefficients and where market participants have only access to a partial information flow. For any utility function, we prove that the partial information financial market is locally viable, in the sense that the optimal portfolio problem has a solution up to a stopping time, if and only if the (normalised) marginal utility of the terminal wealth generates a partial information equivalent martingale measure (PIEMM). This equivalence result is proved in a constructive way by relying on maximum principles for stochastic control problems under partial information. We then characterize a global notion of market viability in terms of partial information local martingale deflators (PILMDs). We illustrate our results by means of a simple example.  相似文献

We study an extension of Merton’s classical portfolio investment – consumption optimization problem (1969–1970) to a particular case of complete discontinuous market, with a single jump. The market consists of a non-risky asset, a ‘standard risky’ asset and a risky asset with discontinuous price dynamics (e.g. a defaultable bond or a mortality linked security). We consider three different problems of maximization of the expected utility from consumption: in the case when the investment horizon is fixed and finite, when it is finite, but possibly uncertain and when it is infinite. The innovative setting is the second one. In a general stochastic coefficients’ model, we solve the problems and we compare the three optimal consumption rates, finding quite interesting results. In the logarithmic and power utility cases, explicit solutions are provided. Furthermore, the benchmark – constant coefficients’ case is deeply investigated and a partial information setting is also studied in the uncertain time horizon case.  相似文献

In the present paper we study a new exotic option offering participation in a dynamic asset allocation strategy, which is an extension of the well‐known Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance (CPPI) strategy. Our novel approach consists in assuming that the percentage of wealth invested in stocks cannot go under a fixed level, called guaranteed minimum equity exposure (GMEE). In particular, our proposal ensures to overcome the so‐called cash‐in risk, typically related to a standard CPPI technique, simultaneously guaranteeing the equity market participation. We look deeper into the valuation of call and put options linked to this new CPPI‐GMEE strategy. A particular attention is devoted to the analysis of key parameters' value as to gain a better understanding of the sensitivities of the option prices, when changing, for example, the embedded guarantee level. To show the effectiveness of our proposal we provide a detailed computational analysis within the Heston‐Vasicek framework, numerically comparing the evaluation of the price of European plain vanilla options when the underlying is either a purely risky asset, a standard CPPI portfolio and a CPPI with GMEE.  相似文献

In this paper a portfolio problem is considered where trading in the risky asset is stopped if a state process hits a predefined barrier. This state process need not to be perfectly correlated with the risky asset. We give a representation result for the value function and provide a verification theorem. As an application, we explicitly solve the problem by assuming that the state process is an arithmetic Brownian motion. Then the result is used as a starting point to solve and analyze a portfolio problem with default risk modeled by the Black-Cox approach. Finally, we discuss how our results can be applied to a portfolio problem with stochastic interest rates and default risk modeled by the approach of Briys and de Varenne.

We consider a market where the price of the risky asset follows a stochastic volatility model, but can be observed only at discrete random time points. We determine a local risk minimizing hedging strategy, assuming that the information of the agent is restricted to the observations of the price at its random jump times. Stochastic filtering also comes into play when computing the hedging strategy in the given situation of restricted information.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the level and cyclicality of regulatory bank capital for asset portfolio securitizations in relation to the cyclicality of capital requirements for the underlying loan portfolio as under Basel II/III. We find that the cyclicality of capital requirements is higher for (i) asset portfolio securitizations relative to primary loan portfolios, (ii) Ratings Based Approach (RBA) relative to the Supervisory Formula Approach, (iii) given the RBA for a point-in-time rating methodology relative to a rate-and-forget rating methodology, and (iv) under the passive reinvestment rule relative to alternative rules. Capital requirements of the individual tranches reveal that the volatility of aggregated capital charges for the securitized portfolio is triggered by the most senior tranches. This is due to the fact that senior tranches are more sensitive to the macroeconomy. An empirical analysis provides evidence that current credit ratings are time-constant and that economic losses for securitizations have exceeded the required capital in the recent financial crisis.  相似文献

We consider a portfolio optimization problem under stochastic volatility as well as stochastic interest rate on an infinite time horizon. It is assumed that risky asset prices follow geometric Brownian motion and both volatility and interest rate vary according to ergodic Markov diffusion processes and are correlated with risky asset price. We use an asymptotic method to obtain an optimal consumption and investment policy and find some characteristics of the policy depending upon the correlation between the underlying risky asset price and the stochastic interest rate.  相似文献

We consider the problem of optimal portfolio choice using the Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) and Value-at-Risk (VaR) measures for a market consisting of n risky assets and a riskless asset and where short positions are allowed. When the distribution of returns of risky assets is unknown but the mean return vector and variance/covariance matrix of the risky assets are fixed, we derive the distributionally robust portfolio rules. Then, we address uncertainty (ambiguity) in the mean return vector in addition to distribution ambiguity, and derive the optimal portfolio rules when the uncertainty in the return vector is modeled via an ellipsoidal uncertainty set. In the presence of a riskless asset, the robust CVaR and VaR measures, coupled with a minimum mean return constraint, yield simple, mean-variance efficient optimal portfolio rules. In a market without the riskless asset, we obtain a closed-form portfolio rule that generalizes earlier results, without a minimum mean return restriction.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the constant elasticity of variance (CEV) model for studying the utility maximization portfolio selection problem with multiple risky assets and a risk-free asset. The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation associated with the portfolio optimization problem is established. By applying a power transform and a variable change technique, we derive the explicit solution for the constant absolute risk aversion (CARA) utility function when the elasticity coefficient is −1 or 0. In order to obtain a general optimal strategy for all values of the elasticity coefficient, we propose a model with two risky assets and one risk-free asset and solve it under a given assumption. Furthermore, we analyze the properties of the optimal strategies and discuss the effects of market parameters on the optimal strategies. Finally, a numerical simulation is presented to illustrate the similarities and differences between the results of the two models proposed in this paper.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to extend a stock-bond integrated portfolio optimization model proposed by one of the authors in 1997 to the case where the universe covers risky (corporate) bonds in addition to stocks and risk-free (government) bonds. An integrated approach has been applied to Japanese market and was proved to generate a portfolio which usually outperforms standard asset allocation strategy. Inclusion of risky bonds is expected to lead to an even better portfolio. To properly handle risky bonds, we introduce a new scheme to quantify the risk associated risky bonds. We will demonstrate that the scheme proposed in this paper works very well, at least in the Japanese market.  相似文献

In order to study the effect of different risk measures on the efficient portfolios (frontier) while properly describing the characteristic of return distributions in the stock market, it is assumed in this paper that the joint return distribution of risky assets obeys the multivari-ate t-distribution. Under the mean-risk analysis framework, the interrelationship of efficient portfolios (frontier) based on risk measures such as variance, value at risk (VaR), and expected shortfall (ES) is analyzed and compared. It is proved that, when there is no riskless asset in the market, the efficient frontier under VaR or ES is a subset of the mean-variance (MV) efficient frontier, and the efficient portfolios under VaR or ES are also MV efficient; when there exists a riskless asset in the market, a portfolio is MV efficient if and only if it is a VaR or ES efficient portfolio. The obtained results generalize relevant conclusions about investment theory, and can better guide investors to make their investment decision.  相似文献

We present the effects of the subsistence consumption constraints on a portfolio selection problem for an agent who is free to choose when to retire with a constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) utility function. By comparing the previous studies with and without the constraints expressed by the minimum consumption requirement, the changes of a retirement wealth level and the amount of money invested in the risky asset are derived explicitly. As a result, the subsistence constraints always lead to lower retirement wealth level but do not always induce less investment in the risky asset. This implies that even though the agent who has a restriction on consumption retires with lower wealth level, she invests more money near the retirement when her risk aversion lies inside a certain range.  相似文献

This paper considers a robust optimal portfolio problem under Heston model in which the risky asset price is related to the historical performance. The finance market includes a riskless asset and a risky asset whose price is controlled by a stochastic delay equation. The objective is to choose the investment strategy to maximize the minimal expected utility of terminal wealth. By employing dynamic programming principle and Hamilton-Jacobin-Bellman (HJB) equation, we obtain the specific expression of the optimal control and the explicit solution of the corresponding HJB equation. Besides, a verification theorem is provided to ensure the value function is indeed the solution of the HJB equation. Finally, we use numerical examples to illustrate the relationship between the optimal strategy and parameters.

We study Merton’s portfolio optimization problem in a limit order market. An investor trading in a limit order market has the choice between market orders that allow immediate transactions and limit orders that trade at more favorable prices but are executed only when another market participant places a corresponding market order. Assuming Poisson arrivals of market orders from other traders we use a shadow price approach, similar to Kallsen and Muhle-Karbe (Ann Appl Probab, forthcoming) for models with proportional transaction costs, to show that the optimal strategy consists of using market orders to keep the proportion of wealth invested in the risky asset within certain boundaries, similar to the result for proportional transaction costs, while within these boundaries limit orders are used to profit from the bid–ask spread. Although the given best-bid and best-ask price processes are geometric Brownian motions the resulting shadow price process possesses jumps.  相似文献
