A novel tunable chirped fiber Bragg grating is realized by bending a piece of D-shaped fiber Bragg grating into a specific shape like the character ‘Ω’. The principle of tuning is demonstrated by numerical simulation. The dispersion of the grating can be tuned while the center wavelength is kept nearly no shift. The experimental results match well with the numerical analysis. The influence from D-shaped fiber’s birefringence and polarization dependent loss is discussed theoretically and experimentally as well. This proposed tuning technique has potential applications in the optical communications and other fiber optics systems.  相似文献

A stable and broadband microwave photonic phase shifter based on the combined use of a linear chirped fiber Bragg grating and optical single-sideband(OSSB) modulation is proposed and experimentally demonstrated.The quality of the radio frequency(RF) signal is improved by the spectral separation delay processing. The theoretical fundamentals of the scheme are explained and the phase shift can be controlled linearly by the wave?length. of the light source. In the experiment, a full 360° phase shift with a 10 GHz bandwidth can be achieved and tuned dynamically, continuously, and stably.  相似文献

根据线性ChirpedBragg光纤光栅的一般原理 ,探讨了不同啁啾系数 ,准高斯耦合函数对Bragg反射光栅的反射率及色散补偿特性的响应。结果表明 :增大啁啾系数以及选取适当的准高斯耦合函数 ,在保证反射率较大的情况下 ,能有效地改善色散补偿特性。通过引入微波领域的“优化指数”这一概念 ,量化了色散补偿器的补偿能力。  相似文献

We demonstrate a new method to broaden and adjust the transmission bandwidth of a phase-shifted linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (PS-LCFBG) after its fabrication. A movable thermal head is used to heat the PS-LCFBG at a small contact point. The original ultra-narrow transmission bandwidth of the PS-LCFBG can be broadened due to both the presence of the passband peak caused by the thermally-induced temporary phase shift and the passband caused by the thermally-induced local Bragg wavelength shift. The transmission bandwidth of the new passband peak can be adjusted by changing the position of the thermal head. The transmission bandwidth of the PS-LCFBG can be broadened from <10 pm to 0.16 nm, and can be tuned from 0.16 to 1.05 nm.  相似文献

A novel wideband tunable linear-cavity fiber laser source using strain-induced chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and erbium–ytterbium co-doped fibers is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. The strain-induced chirped FBG, which acts as a partial-reflecting mirror, is achieved by bending a uniform FBG bonded at a slant onto the lateral surface of a simply supported beam. A single wavelength lasing with a maximum wavelength tuning range of 17 nm has been achieved experimentally.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the use of differential detection in optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) systems which use encoders and decoders based on unbalanced codes and utilize bipolar modulation/differential detection to demonstrate a significant improvement in system performance. Differential detection has been reported earlier also requiring a large number of one-chips in the code for (balanced codes) or with unbalanced codes with very long temporal dimensions requiring a large number of delay elements (either the delay lines in the ladder-type structures or the gratings in the multiple fiber gratings) making the encoder/decoder structures. We use single pulse per row codes to design our system and carry out the simulations for showing the results. The improved BER performance is achieved that can be traded for increasing the number of codes. Using optical simulation tool, the OCDMA system has been simulated for four users. The results of this system utilizing differential detection and another system that uses the same coding scheme but employing direct detection, for the same number of interfering users, are shown for comparison. The BER and the power penalty plots are shown for the two systems. Also, it is shown that performance degradation occurs due to the linear and non-linear effects of the fiber medium. The BER worsens more rapidly with link length for direct detection case, whereas for differential detection with an initial improvement of 8 dB, the increase in BER is insignificantly small for a link length of 500 km.  相似文献

We demonstrate a wavelength-tunable, passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser based on graphene and chirped fiber Bragg grating. The saturable absorber used to enable passive mode-locking in the fiber laser is a section of microfiber covered by graphene film, which allows light-graphene interaction via the evanescent field of the microfiber. The wavelength of the laser can be continuously tuned by adjusting the chirped fiber Bragg grating, while maintaining mode-locking stability. Such a system has high potential in tuning the mode-locked laser pulses across a wide wavelength range.  相似文献

We investigate a flexibly tunable multiwavelength semiconductor-optical-amplifier-based fiber ring laser with continuous wavelength spacing controllability incorporating a superimposed chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG). The wavelength spacing of a superimposed CFBG can be continuously controlled by symmetrically modifying the chirp bandwidth of the grating with the specially designed apparatus. We achieve a wide and continuous tuning range of the wavelength spacing from 0.35 to 0.78 nm. The continuous tunability of the wavelength spacing is measured to be ~ +/-0.033 nm/mm. By controlling the reflection bandwidth of the tunable CFBG, we can independently adjust the number of lasing channels from 2 to 23 at the wavelength spacing of 0.51 nm.  相似文献

A temperature distribution sensing system based on the reflection spectrum of a 70 mm apodized chirped fiber Bragg grating has been demonstrated. Reflection variations created by the Fabry-Perot effect due to the intra-grating wavelength shift are presented. By fitting a parametric transfer matrix model of the grating response to measured spectra, the temperature change, position and width of a localized temperature change are obtained. This system is particularly attractive of its simplicity, high spatial resolution and ability in measuring a non-monotonic distribution. Experiments to measure two localized heating regions along the grating indicate that the technique is promising for measuring more complex temperature profiles.  相似文献

We propose a new method for the development of a tunable optical bandpass filter (TOBF) based on a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG). A NiCr wire heater is used to heat the LCFBG at a small point to introduce a narrow passband within the stop band of the LCFBG. The central wavelength of the passband is tuned by scanning the wire heater along the LCFBG. As an example demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method, we demonstrate a TOBF with a very small 3-dB bandwidth of approximately 7 pm, a tuning range of 16.4 nm, and a rejection ratio of more than 25 dB. Compared with previously reported tunable-fiber-based bandpass filters, this method provides the advantages of a large tuning range, continuous tunability, a switchable passband, a simple tuning mechanism, low cost, and narrow bandwidth.  相似文献

To fabricate chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) with high reflectivity and accurately controlled chirp profile with low cost, we develop the CFBG fabrication technique based on strain gradient: fabricating CFBG using fabricated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) by establishing strain gradient along the length of grating. We theoretically analyze the form of such CFBGs, and study the characteristics of gratings using piecewise-uniform approach. It is shown that increasing UV-induced index change or the length of the grating or both are the efficient ways to obtain high quality CFBG with high reflectivity and good reflection spectrum. The dispersion of this grating is decided by and varies inversely with the slope of the strain gradient along the length of the grating, not decided by UV-induced index change or by the length of grating. One can control the dispersion and the chirp profile by adjusting the slope of the strain gradient. Based on the theoretical analysis, we have fabricated CFBG whose reflectivity is maintained at 100% in a large range of strain gradients.  相似文献

利用啁啾相移光纤光栅狭缝的中心波长对应变点和应变量的波长敏感性,实现应变与应变点精确定位的传感.当啁啾光纤光栅上的某一位置产生微应变时,该应变点会产生相移,其频谱则会出现一个与之对应的狭缝,且狭缝的深度和中心波长与应变的大小和位置相关.当串接不同中心波长的啁啾光纤光栅后,即可实现一定范围内的分布式应变与应变点精确定位检测.本文通过V-I传输矩阵法建立了狭缝深度和中心波长关于应变量和应变位置的理论模型,分析结果表明理论上可以实现微米量级的精确定位.搭建了级联啁啾相移光纤光栅的分布式应变传感装置,实验获得的最大应变灵敏度为0.19 pm/με.该精确定位传感装置在先进制造、精密加工、航空航天、铁路系统等高新技术领域具有重要的应用前景.  相似文献

Two novel multiwavelength Raman fiber lasers using a ring cavity and a linear cavity are proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Both laser configurations include a sampled chirped fiber Bragg grating used in the reflection mode. By adjusting the polarization controller (PC) in the cavities, up to ten stable lasing wavelengths with 0.8 nm spacing and equalized peak power are achieved at room temperature. It is observed that the output spectrum depends upon which port of the grating is connected to the cavity. These two fiber ring lasers offer advantages such as, stable room temperature operation, simple structure, low loss, multiwavelength lasing lines with moderate output power. We propose a highly-sensitive distributed addressable liquid-droplet sensor based on an evanescent-wave linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG). Due to liquid-droplet-induced increase of the localized effective refractive index, a transmission window is generated within the original reflection stopband of LCFBG. Utilizing the spatial encoding feature of Bragg wavelength in LCFBG and spectrum properties of the created passband, both numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the position, size, and refractive index information of multiple distributed discrete liquid-droplets can be detected simultaneously.  相似文献

A novel technique to interrogate a long-period grating (LPG) using a mechanically scannable arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) is proposed. This technique is implemented based on space-to-wavelength mapping by mechanically scanning the input light beam along the input coupler facet of an AWG. By employing a sampled chirped fiber Bragg grating with multiple peaks as a reference, the central wavelength of the LPG is measured. An interrogation system with a resolution of 10 pm at a speed of 10 Hz is demonstrated. Furthermore, the technique proposed can potentially offer subpicometer resolution at a speed of 500 Hz.  相似文献

We report femtosecond pulse generation and chirped pulse amplification in Tm:fiber. A mode-locked oscillator operating in the soliton regime produced 800 fs pulses with 5 nm spectral bandwidth, at 40 pJ pulse energy. This oscillator seeded a pre-amplifier that utilizes a Raman soliton self-frequency shift to produce wavelength tunable pulses with 3 nJ energy, reduced pulse duration of 150 fs, and increased bandwidth of 30 nm. For further amplification, the pulses were stretched up to 160 ps using a chirped Bragg grating (CBG). Stretched pulses were amplified to 85 nJ after compression in single-mode Tm:fiber and recompressed with the CBG as short as 400 fs. Compressed pulses were coupled into a highly nonlinear tellurite fiber to investigate the potential of this ultrashort pulse 2-μm fiber source as a pump for mid-IR supercontinuum generation.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel switchable and discretely tunable comb filter based on a thermally induced linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating. Experimentally we achieved a thermally induced optical bandpass filter that has eight switchable passband peaks with peak separations of 1.6 and 3.2 nm, a very narrow bandwidth (as small as 10 pm) of each peak, a tunable range of 16.5 nm, and a greater than 25 dB rejection ratio. Two spectral peaks separated by only 0.8 nm were also obtained with this comb filter. This filter provides the unique advantages of an all-fiber structure, switchable spectral peaks, independent tuning of the center wavelength and wavelength spacing of the spectral peaks, low polarization sensitivity, simple structure, ease of fabrication, and low cost.  相似文献
