Summary In this paper, the reflection and refraction of a plane wave at an interface between two half-spaces composed of triclinic crystalline material is considered. It is shown that due to incidence of plane wave three types of waves, namely quasi-P (qP), quasi-SV (qSV) and quasi-SH (qSH), will be generated governed by the propagation condition involving the acoustic tensor. A simple procedure has been presented for the calculation of all the three phase velocities of the quasi waves. It has been established that the direction of particle motion is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the direction of propagation. Relations are established between directions of motion and propagation, respectively. The expressions for reflection and refraction coefficients of qP, qSV and qSH waves are obtained. Numerical results of reflection and refraction coefficients are presented for different types of anisotropic media and for different types of incident waves. Graphical representations have been made for incident qP waves, and for incident qSV and qSH waves numerical data are presented in tables. The work was completed while the author was visiting the University of Kaiserslautern, Department of Geomathematics as Visiting Professor. The propagation of three-dimensional plane waves at a traction free boundary of a half-space composed of triclinic crystalline material is discussed.A method has been developed to find the analytical expressions of all the three phase velocities of quasi-P (qP),quasi-SV(qSV)and quasi-SH(qSH)in three dimensions.Closed form expressions in three dimensions for the amplitude ratios of reflection coefficients of qP,qSV and qSH waves in a triclinic medium are obtained. These expressions are used for numerically studying the variation of the reflection coefficients with the angle of incidence. The graphs are drawn for different polar angle and azimuth.Numerical results presented indicate that the anisotropy affect the reflection coefficients significantly in the three dimensional case compared to the two-dimensional case.  相似文献

The reflection and refraction pattern of elastic waves at a corrugated interface between two triclinic half-spaces is discussed. The incident wave is taken to be the cause of the interface disturbance and the reflected and refracted waves are effects. This leads to the causality requirement that the reflected and refracted waves must propagate away from the interface. Closed form expressions of reflection and transmission coefficients are derived using Rayleigh’s method of approximation. The formulae of reflection and transmission coefficients are derived in closed form for the first-order approximation of the corrugation. The analytical expressions of all the three phase velocities of qP, qSV and qSH waves have been derived. The variation of reflection and refraction coefficients with the angle of incidence and also with the corrugation parameter is shown. In this paper we have developed Graphical User Interface (GUI) Software in MATLAB which shows the variation of reflection and refraction coefficients with respect to incident angle and corrugation parameter. This software can be generalized to show the variation of reflection and refraction coefficients. Numerical computations are performed for a scientific model and the results obtained are shown graphically.  相似文献

The propagation of elastic waves is studied in a porous solid saturated with two immiscible viscous fluids. The propagation of three longitudinal waves is represented through three scalar potential functions. The lone transverse wave is presented by a vector potential function. The displacements of particles in different phases of the aggregate are defined in terms of these potential functions. It is shown that there exist three longitudinal waves and one transverse wave. The phenomena of reflection and refraction due to longitudinal and transverse waves at a plane interface between an elastic solid half-space and a porous solid half-space saturated with two immiscible viscous fluids are investigated. For the presence of viscosity in pore-fluids,the waves refracted to the porous medium attenuate in the direction normal to the interface. The ratios of the amplitudes of the reflected and refracted waves to that of the incident wave are calculated as a nonsingular system of linear algebraic equations. These amplitude ratios are used to further calculate the shares of different scattered waves in the energy of the incident wave. The modulus of the amplitude and the energy ratios with the angle of incidence are computed for a particular numerical model. The conservation of the energy across the interface is verified. The effects of variations in non-wet saturation of pores and frequencies on the energy partition are depicted graphically and discussed.  相似文献

The reflection and transmission of an incident plane wave at an interface between water and a fluid-saturated double porosity solid are investigated. The properties of the three compressional waves and one shear wave in double porosity media are discussed in detail. The effect of the viscosity, permeability, and porosity on the phase velocity and attenuation of four bulk waves is presented. Comparison between the double porosity theory and the Biot theory reveals that there exists obvious difference in the phase velocity, attenuation and the reflection and transmission coefficients. Two cases of boundary conditions, i.e., the sealed-pore and the open-pore boundaries, are introduced in the numerical calculation. At last, the effect of the fracture permeability and porosity on the reflection and transmission coefficients considered. It is revealed that the amplitudes of the reflected and transmitted waves strongly depend the boundary condition, fracture permeability, and porosity.  相似文献

The Christoffel equation is derived for the propagation of plane harmonic waves in a generalized thermoelastic anisotropic (GTA) medium. Solving this equation for velocities implies the propagation of four attenuating waves in the medium. The same Christoffel equation is solved into a polynomial equation of degree eight. The roots of this equation define the vertical slownesses of the eight attenuating waves existing at a boundary of the medium. Incidence of inhomogeneous waves is considered at the boundary of the medium. A finite non-dimensional parameter defines the inhomogeneity of incident wave and is used to calculate its (complex) slowness vector. The reflected attenuating waves are identified with the values of vertical slowness. Procedure is explained to calculate the slowness vectors of the waves reflected from the boundary of the medium. The slowness vectors are used, further, to calculate the phase velocities, phase directions, directions and amounts of attenuations of the reflected waves. Numerical examples are considered to analyze the variations of these propagation characteristics with the inhomogeneity and propagation direction of incident wave. Incidence of each of the four types of waves is considered. Numerical example is also considered to study the propagation and attenuation of inhomogeneous waves in the unbounded medium.  相似文献

In this paper, the governing relations and equations are derived for nonlocal elastic solid with voids. The propagation of time harmonic plane waves is investigated in an infinite nonlocal elastic solid material with voids. It has been found that three basic waves consisting of two sets of coupled longitudinal waves and one independent transverse wave may travel with distinct speeds. The sets of coupled waves are found to be dispersive, attenuating and influenced by the presence of voids and nonlocality parameters in the medium. The transverse wave is dispersive but non-attenuating, influenced by the nonlocality and independent of void parameters. Furthermore, the transverse wave is found to face critical frequency, while the coupled waves may face critical frequencies conditionally. Beyond each critical frequency, the respective wave is no more a propagating wave. Reflection phenomenon of an incident coupled longitudinal waves from stress-free boundary surface of a nonlocal elastic solid half-space with voids has also been studied. Using appropriate boundary conditions, the formulae for various reflection coefficients and their respective energy ratios are presented. For a particular model, the effects of non-locality and dissipation parameter (\(\tau \)) have been depicted on phase speeds and attenuation coefficients of propagating waves. The effect of nonlocality on reflection coefficients has also been observed and shown graphically.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to study a problem of reflection and refraction of quasi-longitudinal waves under initial stresses at an interface of two anisotropic piezoelectric media with different properties. One of the two media is aluminum nitride, which is considered the down piezoelectric medium and the above medium is chosen as PZT-5H ceramics. The two piezoelectric media welded are assumed to be anisotropic of a type of a transversely isotropic crystals (hexagonal crystal structure, class 6 mm). The equations of motion and constitutive relations for the piezoelectric media have been written. Suitable boundary conditions are used to obtain the reflection and refraction coefficients. For an incidence of quasi-longitudinal plane waves, four independent-type amplitude ratios of elastic displacement components for plane waves, called quasi-longitudinal (qP) and quasi-shear vertical (qSV) waves, are shown to exist. Also, it is observed that there exist four dependent amplitude ratios of electric potential, which are proportional to the previous four types. Finally, it is found that the coefficients of reflection and refraction are functions of angle of incidence, elastic constants, piezoelectric potential parameters and the initial stresses. Numerical computations and the results obtained are depicted graphically. In the end, a particular case has been reduced from the present study. This investigation is considered important because the initial stresses in such practical problems are inevitable and may result in frequency shift, a change in the velocity of surface waves and controlling the selectivity of a filter compensation of the devices.  相似文献

Two-dimensional plane wave propagation in an orthotropic micropolar elastic solid is studied. There exist three types of coupled waves in xy-plane, whose velocities depend upon the angle of propagation and material parameters. A problem on reflection of these plane waves from a stress-free boundary is considered. The reflection coefficients of various reflected waves are computed numerically for a particular model of the solid. The effects of anisotropy upon the velocities and reflection coefficients are depicted graphically for different angles of propagation.  相似文献

The reflection and transmission characteristics of an incident plane P1 wave from the interface of a fluid-saturated single porous solid and a fluid-saturated double porosity solid are investigated. The fluid-saturated porous solid is modeled with the classic Biot’s theory and the double porosity medium is described by an extended Biot’s theory. In a double-porosity model with dual-permeability there exist three compressional waves and a shear wave. The effects of the incident angle and frequency on amplitude ratios of the reflected and transmitted waves to the incident wave are discussed. Two boundary conditions are discussed in detail: (a) Open-pore boundary and (b) Sealed-pore boundary. Numerical results reveal that the characteristics of the reflection and transmission coefficients to the incident angle and the frequency are quite different for the two cases of boundary conditions. Properties of the bulk waves existing in the fluid-saturated porous solid and the double porosity medium are also studied.  相似文献

Summary The longitudinal propagation and reflection of a plane electromagnetic wave in a horizontally stratified magneto-ionic medium is considered. In this case Maxwell's equations reduce to two uncoupled ordinary second-order differential equations, describing the propagation of two elliptically polarized plane waves. The electron density of the medium is assumed to vary with the vertical Cartesian coordinatez according to the Epstein law. Rigorous solutions of the relevant differential equations can be obtained either in the form of hypergeometric functions or in the form of an integral representation. The reflection coefficients of both waves are then expressed in terms of gamma functions. The following quantities are considered in detail in their dependence on the parameters involved: the modulus of the reflection coefficient, the phase delay time and the group delay time. Some numerical results are given.  相似文献

The present study is concerned with the wave propagation in an electro-microelastic solid. The reflection phenomenon of plane elastic waves from a stress free plane boundary of an electro-microelastic solid half-space is studied. The condition and the range of frequency for the existence of elastic waves in an infinite electro-microelastic body are investigated. The constitutive relations and the field equations for an electro-microelastic solid are stemmed from the Eringen’s theory of microstretch elasticity with electromagnetic interactions. Amplitude ratios and energy ratios of various reflected waves are presented when an elastic wave is made incident obliquely at the stress free plane boundary of an electro-microelastic solid half-space. It has been verified that there is no dissipation of energy at the boundary surface during reflection. Numerical computations are performed for a specific model to calculate the phase speeds, amplitude ratios and energy ratios, and the results obtained are depicted graphically. The effect of elastic parameter corresponding to micro-stretch is noticed on reflection coefficients, in particular. Results of Parfitt and Eringen [Parfitt, V.R., Eringen, A.C., 1969. Reflection of plane waves from a flat boundary of a micropolar elastic half-space. J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 45, 1258–1272] have also been reduced as a special case from the present formulation.  相似文献

The present paper concentrates on the study of reflection and refraction characteristics of plane waves at an imperfectly bonded interface of two orthotropic generalized thermoelastic rotating half-spaces with different elastic and thermal properties. In this type of problem of orthotropic thermoelastic rotating medium, there are three types of plane waves quasi longitudinal (QL-) wave, quasi thermal (T-mode) wave and quasi transverse (QT-) wave, whose velocities depend on the angle of incidence, imperfection and rotation. The amplitude ratios of reflected waves to that of incident one in each case have been derived. Some special cases of boundaries, i.e. normal stiffness, transverse stiffness, thermal contact conductance, slip boundary and welded contact boundary have been deduced from an imperfect one. Effect of rotation on the amplitude ratios of different reflected and refracted waves with respect to incident QL-wave at different boundaries have been studied graphically. It is observed that thermal properties, imperfect boundary and rotation have significant effect on the propagation of waves.  相似文献

The paper investigates time-harmonic wave propagation in continuously stratified solids and provides the results of a reflection-transmission process generated by a layer sandwiched between homogeneous half-spaces. The layer is continuously stratified and allows for jump discontinuities at a finite number of planes. The dissipative effects are accounted for through the classical Boltzmann law of viscoelasticity. By using displacement and traction as convenient vector variables, the governing equations are considered in a vector Volterra integral equation and the solution is determined by means of a matricant. Next the matricant is applied to determine the reflection and transmission coefficients of a layer, with a generic piecewise continuous profile of the material properties. The reflection-transmission process produced by an obliquely incident wave, is considered for horizontally-polarized waves. The low-frequency approximation is derived for the reflection and transmission coefficients. Next, the high-frequency approximation is investigated by a WKB-like procedure which involves a complex valued frequency-dependent shear modulus. The displacement solution is obtained for the forward- and the backward-propagating waves in the layer along with the reflection and transmission coefficients.  相似文献

Plane waves in a semi-infinite fluid saturated porous medium   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The field equations governing the propagation of waves in an incompressible liquid-saturated porous medium are investigated and a general solution is presented. It has been revealed that coupled longitudinal and transverse waves propagate in the porous medium. The propagation of transverse waves in the fluid phase is completely due to the interaction between the solid and fluid phases. The dispersion relationship and attenuation features are discussed. Unlike other investigations, all explicit forms of the arguments are derived. The reflection of the plane harmonic waves at the plane, traction-free boundary, which shows the influence of the dissipation on the velocity, and the attenuation coefficients of the reflected waves is studied. It is of interest that pore pressure is produced in the process of reflection, even in the case of the incidence of transverse waves.  相似文献

The propagation, reflection, and transmission of SH waves in slightly compressible, finitely deformed elastic media are considered in this paper. The dispersion relation for SH-wave propagation in slightly compressible, finitely deformed layer overlying a slightly compressible, finitely deformed half-space is derived. The present paper also deals with the reflection and refraction (transmission) phenomena due to the SH wave incident at the plane interface between two distinct slightly compressible, finitely deformed elastic media. The closed form expressions for the amplitude ratios of reflection and refraction coefficients of the reflected and refracted SH waves are obtained from suitable boundary conditions. For the numerical discussions, we consider the Neo-Hookean form of a strain energy function. The phase speed curves, the variations of reflection, and transmission coefficients with the angle of incidence, and the plots of the slowness sections are presented by means of graphs.  相似文献

The propagation of plane vertical transverse waves at an interface of a semi-infinite piezoelectric elastic medium under the influence of the initial stresses is discussed. The free surface of the piezoelectric elastic medium is considered to be adjacent to vacuum. We assumed that the piezoelectric material is anisotropic of the type of a transversely isotropic crystals (hexagonal crystal structure, class 6 mm). For an incident of vertical transverse plane wave, four types (two for the displacement and two for the electric potential) of reflected plane waves, called quasi-longitudinal (qP) and quasi-shear vertical (qSV) waves are shown to be exist. The relations governing the reflection coefficients of these reflected waves for various boundary conditions (mixed-free-fixed) are derived. It has been shown analytically that reflected coefficients of (qP) and (qSV) waves depend upon the angle of incidence, the parameters of electric potential, the material constants of the medium as well as the initial stresses presented in the medium. The numerical computations of reflection coefficients for different values of initial stresses have been carried out by computer for aluminum nitride (AlN) as an example and the results are given in the form of graphs. Finally, particular cases are considered in the absence of the initial stresses and the electric potential. Some of earlier studies have been compared to the special cases and shown good agreement with them.  相似文献

Time harmonic waves in a swelling porous elastic medium of infinite extent and consisting of solid, liquid and gas phases have been studied. Employing Eringen’s theory of swelling porous media, it has been shown that there exist three dilatational and two shear waves propagating with distinct velocities. The velocities of these waves are found to be frequency dependent and complex valued, showing that the waves are attenuating in nature. Here, the appearance of an additional shear wave is new and arises due to swelling phenomena of the medium, which disappears in the absence of swelling. The reflection phenomenon of an incident dilatational wave from a stress-free plane boundary of a porous elastic half-space has been investigated for two types of boundary surfaces: (i) surface having open pores and (ii) surface having sealed pores. Using appropriate boundary conditions for these boundary surfaces, the equations giving the reflection coefficients corresponding to various reflected waves are presented. Numerical computations are performed for a specific model consisting of sandstone, water and carbon dioxide as solid, liquid and gas phases, respectively, of the porous medium. The variations of phase speeds and their corresponding attenuation coefficients are depicted against frequency parameter for all the existing waves. The variations of reflection coefficients and corresponding energy ratios against the angle of incidence are also computed and depicted graphically. It has been shown that in a limiting case, Eringen’s theory of swelling porous media reduces to Tuncay and Corapcioglu theory of porous media containing two immiscible fluids. The various numerical results under these two theories have been compared graphically.  相似文献
