This article reports a numerical investigation of the performance of single-channel and WDM optical systems, assuming a fiber link 4000 km long in the presence of the Kerr effect, chromatic dispersion, and the amplifier spontaneous emission noise of the optical amplifiers. Both solitons and NRZ signals are considered, and IM-DD and coherent asynchronous ASK detections are used. Results on the technique of the midpoint spectral inversion are also reported.  相似文献

The power penalty and bit error rate degradation encountered when using wavelength division multiplexing devices is analyzed. We present the characterization of an analog optical link employing external modulation and optical carrier in the C-band using a fiber Raman amplifier (FRA). The figures of merit gain and noise figure were characterized from 1 to 9 GHz, whereas the spurious-free dynamic range was measured and compared for both setups for frequencies from 2 to 9 GHz, all with and without the Raman amplifier. Experimental results demonstrate that FRA can simultaneously increase the spurious-free dynamic range, the analog gain and decrease the analog noise figure when compared to the same configuration without optical amplifier.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel method degrading the combined effect of four-wave mixing (FWM) and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise of the amplifier on the most heavily affected channel in an equally channel spaced wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system containing in-line optical amplifiers is proposed. FWM effect is directly related to input powers of channels. So, FWM effect can be degraded by controlling channel input powers. In the proposed method, varying the input power of each channel in an optical fiber, the output optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) values are evaluated and input powers of all channels are optimized in order to maximize the OSNR value of the channel having the lowest OSNR. To interpret the results obtained, output OSNR values for the minimum optical input power launched to the system by each channel are also computed. Being compared to the computed results for minimum optical input powers, the lowest output OSNR value among all channels for optimized input powers shows a 5.1867 dB increase in a 5-channel system, a 3.5988 dB increase in a 9-channel system, a 3.0855 dB increase in a 15-channel system and a 1.6795 dB increase for a 21-channel system. Furthermore, output OSNR values of all channels exhibit a significant increase.  相似文献

Wavelength conversion by four-wave mixing in high-speed, long-distance optical links compensates for fiber dispersion and source chirping. Wavelength converters based on four-wave mixing in semiconductor amplifiers could be key components in wavelength-switched networks. The intra-channel collision of optical solitons, with Kerr law nonlinearity, is studied by the aid of quasi-particle theory. The perturbation terms considered in this paper are all of Hamiltonian type. It is shown that the soliton–soliton interaction can be suppressed in the presence of these perturbations, namely, the self-steepening, the third-order dispersion, the fourth-order dispersion and the frequency separation between the soliton carrier and the gain-center frequency. The prediction of quasi-particle theory are fully confirmed by direct numerical simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, 10 and 40 Gb/s optical systems have been investigated for nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed return-to-zero (CSRZ) and RZ-differential phase-shift-keying (RZ-DPSK) data formats. For the range of the optical signal power from −5 to 15 dBm, a maximum self-phase modulation (SPM)-limited transmission distance LSPM is determined with eye-opening penalty (EOP) >1 dB .The observations are based on the modeling and numerical simulation of optimum dispersion-managed transmission link. Transmission over distances of the order of several hundreds of kilometers has been shown with and without amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise of the in-line erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs).  相似文献

We investigate numerically surface-wave solitons occurring at the interface between semi-infinite linear and thermal nonlinear optical media, with the refractive index of the linear medium being greater than that of the nonlinear medium (in the absence of light). We find that the threshold energy flows of the existence of the surface solitons depend on the linear refractive index difference of the two media. Their fitting empirical formula has been obtained. Furthermore, we elucidate that the optical beams propagating in thermal nonlinear optical media, either as a single surface soliton or as a dipole surface soliton, can be attracted to the surface, even when launched from far away.  相似文献

An interesting effect of optical Kerr nonlinearity is reported from theoretical investigation on the fundamental and first higher mode cutoff frequencies in single-mode fibers doped with highly nonlinear materials like CdSxSe1−x with W-type dispersion-flattened profiles. It is observed that whereas the single-mode regime decreases absolutely for dispersion-shifted profiles due to reduction of the first higher order mode cutoff frequency as is evident from earlier studies, it increases for W-type profiles for such nonlinearity taking its effect on the nonzero fundamental mode cutoff frequency into consideration. Thus, one can go further down below the fundamental mode cutoff frequency while using W-fibers in single mode nonlinear fiber devices involving evanescent field coupling in the low V region.  相似文献

In this investigation, we experimentally investigate an extended reach (ER) time-division-multiplexed passive optical network (TDM-PON) using four wavelength-multiplexed channels to achieve 16 Gb/s downlink and 10 Gb/s uplink traffic. Each downlink signal uses the highly spectral efficient 4 Gb/s OFDM-QAM, and each uplink signal is generated by signal remodulating the downlink signal via a reflective semiconductor amplifier (RSOA) at 2.5 Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ). In addition, the performance of the proposed ER TDM-PON has also been analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

A theoretical model for crosstalk in multichannel wavelength division multiplexing communication systems due to cross phase saturation in semiconductor optical amplifier structure is developed. This theoretical model is used to analyze the impact of the cross phase noise on the performance of semiconductor optical amplifiers in saturation region for WDM communication system by using differential phase shift modulation format. It is shown that by increasing the carrier life time, width and thickness while reducing the confinement factor, differential gain and bias current in the SOA structure mitigates the cross talk due to cross phase saturation. The impact of penalty and cross phase noise imposed on multichannel WDM links have been investigated for different parameters of the SOA with the variation in transmission distance. With the slight increase in differential gain of 200.2 × 10−18 cm2 and confinement factor 0.41, the maximum transmission distance observed is 5220 km with good quality and nil power penalty for 10 × 40 Gb/s soliton RZ-DPSK WDM signals for the first time.  相似文献

In this review, considering the important linear and nonlinear optical effects like group velocity dispersion, higher order dispersion, Kerr nonlinearity, self-steepening, stimulated Raman scattering, birefringence, self-induced transparency and various inhomogeneous effects in fibers, the completely integrable concept and bright, dark and self-induced transparency soliton models in nonlinear fiber optics are discussed. Considering the above important optical effects, the different completely integrable soliton models in the form of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), NLS-Maxwell-Bloch (MB) type equations reported in the literature are discussed. In this article, we theoretically investigate relative intensity noise (RIN) in optical communication systems with fiber nonlinearities due to optical Kerr effects and higher order dispersion. The impact of modulation frequencies, launch power, and laser bias current on RIN has been illustrated. We show that RIN increases with modulating frequencies up to the resonance frequency and launch power, and decreases in the laser bias current. We also show that higher order dispersion terms have no impact on the RIN, but with first order dispersion compensation the higher order dispersion terms have significant impact at high modulating frequencies. The RIN with and without fiber nonlinearities is further investigated. It has been shown that the RIN with fiber nonlinearity is more than the RIN without nonlinearity and the effect of nonlinearity appears at higher modulation frequencies only.  相似文献

Existence of a new class of complex solitary waves is shown for Sasa Satsuma equation. These solitary waves are found to be stable in a certain domain of the parameter and become chaotic if the parameter exceeds the value 2.4. Significantly, the complex solitary waves propagate at higher bit rate over the most stable solitons under the same conditions of the input parameters.  相似文献

本文建立了包括增益色散,受激喇曼散射,双光子吸收效应的理论模型,讨论了光孤子脉冲在光纤放大器中的传播.数值计算结果表明:在反常色散范围内,光孤子的放大是不稳定的.增益色散导致光脉冲对称分裂,而受激喇曼散射则导致不对称的分裂.在增益色散和受激喇曼散射的共同作用下可获得新的时域和频域特征.有限带宽的放大能抑制受激喇曼散射引起的自频移.本文对有啁啾的光孤子脉冲的放大也进行了分析.  相似文献

We report the multi-component optical azimuthons of four-wave mixing(FWM) composed of several modulated vortex beams, the so-called azimuthons, in V-type three-level and two-level atomic systems. We analyze the formation mechanisms of the FWM azimuthons theoretically and experimentally. In addition, we illustrate the interactions between the co-propagating azimuthon components. Finally, we also compare the stabilities of azimuthons in V-type three-level and two-level atomic systems.  相似文献

We have investigated the generation of the 40-GHz double-sideband optical millimeter (mm)-wave with signal carried only by its optical carrier via an embedded LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator (LN-MZM). Since the optical carrier and its two first-order sidebands are dominant and their powers are well balanced, the first-order harmonic in the photocurrent gets maximal. As the optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, there is no code outline distortion because the signal is only modulated on the optical carrier. Although the first-order harmonic shows the periodical fading effect when the optical mm-wave signal is transmitted along the fiber, its degradation on the radio-over-fiber link can be avoided by adjusting the position of the fading nodes via varying the main MZM bias voltage, and the signal still keeps much good eye diagram even after 50-km fiber transmission. The experimental results prove our theory.  相似文献
