The purpose of this paper is to propose and study a mathematical model and a boundary control problem associated to the miscible displacement of hydrogen through the porous anode of a PEM fuel cell. Throughout the paper, we study certain variational problems with a priori regularity properties of the weak solutions. We obtain the existence of less regular solutions and then we prove the desired regularity of these solutions. We consider a control problem that permits to determine the boundary distribution of the pressure which provides an optimal configuration for the temperature and for the concentration, as well. Since the solution of the problem is not unique, the control variable does not appear explicitly in the definition of our cost functional. To overcome this difficulty, we introduce a family of penalized control problems which approximates our boundary control problem. The necessary conditions of optimality are derived by passing to the limit in the penalized optimality conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we formulate and study a minimax control problem for a class of parabolic systems with controlled Dirichlet boundary conditions and uncertain distributed perturbations under pointwise control and state constraints. We prove an existence theorem for minimax solutions and develop effective penalized procedures to approximate state constraints. Based on a careful variational analysis, we establish convergence results and optimality conditions for approximating problems that allow us to characterize suboptimal solutions to the original minimax problem with hard constraints. Then passing to the limit in approximations, we prove necessary optimality conditions for the minimax problem considered under proper constraint qualification conditions. In this paper, we consider a class of optimal control problems with free terminal time and continuous inequality constraints. First, the problem is approximated by representing the control function as a piecewise-constant function. Then the continuous inequality constraints are transformed into terminal equality constraints for an auxiliary differential system. After these two steps, we transform the constrained optimization problem into a penalized problem with only box constraints on the decision variables using a novel exact penalty function. This penalized problem is then solved by a gradient-based optimization technique. Theoretical analysis proves that this penalty function has continuous derivatives, and for a sufficiently large and finite penalty parameter, its local minimizer is feasible in the sense that the continuous inequality constraints are satisfied. Furthermore, this local minimizer is also the local minimizer of the constrained problem. Numerical simulations on the range maximization for a hypersonic vehicle reentering the atmosphere subject to a heating constraint demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider lexicographic vector equilibrium problems. We propose a penalty function method for solving such problems. We show that every penalty trajectory of the penalized lexicographic equilibrium problem tends to the solution of the original problem. Using the regularized gap function to obtain an error bound result for such penalized problems is given.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a power penalty function approach to the linear complementarity problem arising from pricing American options. The problem is first reformulated as a variational inequality problem; the resulting variational inequality problem is then transformed into a nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation (PDE) by adding a power penalty term. It is shown that the solution to the penalized equation converges to that of the variational inequality problem with an arbitrary order. This arbitrary-order convergence rate allows us to achieve the required accuracy of the solution with a small penalty parameter. A numerical scheme for solving the penalized nonlinear PDE is also proposed. Numerical results are given to illustrate the theoretical findings and to show the effectiveness and usefulness of the method. In this paper, some new results on the exact penalty function method are presented. Simple optimality characterizations are given for the differentiable nonconvex optimization problems with both inequality and equality constraints via exact penalty function method. The equivalence between sets of optimal solutions in the original mathematical programming problem and its associated exact penalized optimization problem is established under suitable invexity assumption. Furthermore, the equivalence between a saddle point in the invex mathematical programming problem and an optimal point in its exact penalized optimization problem is also proved.  相似文献

The exact penalty approach aims at replacing a constrained optimization problem by an equivalent unconstrained optimization problem. Most results in the literature of exact penalization are mainly concerned with finding conditions under which a solution of the constrained optimization problem is a solution of an unconstrained penalized optimization problem, and the reverse property is rarely studied. In this paper, we study the reverse property. We give the conditions under which the original constrained (single and/or multiobjective) optimization problem and the unconstrained exact penalized problem are exactly equivalent. The main conditions to ensure the exact penalty principle for optimization problems include the global and local error bound conditions. By using variational analysis, these conditions may be characterized by using generalized differentiation.  相似文献

In this paper we present a new approach to solve a two-level optimization problem arising from an approximation by means of the finite element method of optimal control problems governed by unilateral boundary-value problems. The problem considered is to find a minimum of a functional with respect to the control variablesu. The minimized functional depends on control variables and state variablesx. The latter are the optimal solution of an auxiliary quadratic programming problem, whose parameters depend onu.Our main idea is to replace this QP problem by its dual and then apply the barrier penalty method to this dual QP problem or to the primal one if it is in an appropriate form. As a result we obtain a problem approximating the original one. Its good property is the differentiable dependence of state variables with respect to the control variables. Furthermore, we propose a method for finding an approximate solution of a penalized lower-level problem if the optimal solution of the original QP problem is known. We apply the result obtained to some optimal shape design problems governed by the Dirichlet-Signorini boundary-value problem. This research was supported by the Academy of Finland and the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences.  相似文献

In this paper we use the penalty approach in order to study constrained minimization problems in a complete metric space with locally Lipschitzian mixed constraints. A penalty function is said to have the exact penalty property if there is a penalty coefficient for which a solution of an unconstrained penalized problem is a solution of the corresponding constrained problem. In this paper we establish sufficient conditions for the exact penalty property.   相似文献

A popular approach to solving the complementarity problem is to reformulate it as an equivalent equation system via a complementarity function. In this paper, we propose a new class of functions, which contains the penalized natural residual function and the penalized Fischer–Burmeister function for symmetric cone complementarity problems. We show that this class of functions is indeed a class of complementarity functions. We finally prove that the merit function of this new class of complementarity functions is coercive.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the penalty approach for constrained minimization problems in infinite dimensional Banach spaces. A penalty function is said to have the exact penalty property if there is a penalty coefficient for which a solution of an unconstrained penalized problem is a solution of the corresponding constrained problem. We establish a simple sufficient condition for exact penalty property for two large classes of constrained minimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a distributed boundary control problem governed by an elliptic partial differential equation with state constraints and a minimax objective function. The continuous optimal control problem, discretized with the finite element method, is numerically approximated by a family of linear programming problems. Application to an optimal configuration problem is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we use the penalty approach in order to study constrained minimization problems in a Banach space with nonsmooth nonconvex mixed constraints. A penalty function is said to have the exact penalty property [J.-B. Hiriart-Urruty, C. Lemarechal, Convex Analysis and Minimization Algorithms, Springer, Berlin, 1993] if there is a penalty coefficient for which a solution of an unconstrained penalized problem is a solution of the corresponding constrained problem. In this paper we establish sufficient conditions for the exact penalty property.  相似文献

In this paper we use the penalty approach in order to study two constrained minimization problems. A penalty function is said to have the generalized exact penalty property if there is a penalty coefficient for which approximate solutions of the unconstrained penalized problem are close enough to approximate solutions of the corresponding constrained problem. In this paper we show that the generalized exact penalty property is stable under perturbations of cost functions, constraint functions and the right-hand side of constraints.  相似文献

This paper is the continuation of the paper ``Dirichlet boundary control of semilinear parabolic equations. Part 1: Problems with no state constraints.' It is concerned with an optimal control problem with distributed and Dirichlet boundary controls for semilinear parabolic equations, in the presence of pointwise state constraints. We first obtain approximate optimality conditions for problems in which state constraints are penalized on subdomains. Next by using a decomposition theorem for some additive measures (based on the Stone—Cech compactification), we pass to the limit and recover Pontryagin's principles for the original problem. Summary In this paper, we discuss an approach to the obstacle problem for minimal boundaries via penalty techniques. After investigating some classes of penalized problems, a general method is introduced, based on the minimization of a suitable functional containing an extra term related to the mean curvature of the given obstacle.  相似文献

We use the penalty approach in order to study inequality-constrained minimization problems in infinite dimensional spaces. A penalty function is said to have the exact penalty property if there is a penalty coefficient for which a solution of an unconstrained penalized problem is a solution of the corresponding constrained problem. In this paper we consider a large class of inequality-constrained minimization problems for which a constraint is a mapping with values in a normed ordered space. For this class of problems we introduce a new type of penalty functions, establish the exact penalty property and obtain an estimation of the exact penalty. Using this exact penalty property we obtain necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for the constrained minimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the penalty approach in order to study a class of constrained vector minimization problems on complete metric spaces. A penalty function is said to have the generalized exact penalty property iff there is a penalty coefficient for which approximate solutions of the unconstrained penalized problem are close enough to approximate solutions of the corresponding constrained problem. For our class of problems, we establish the generalized exact penalty property and obtain an estimation of the exact penalty.  相似文献
