Non-level semi-standard graded Cohen–Macaulay domain with h-vector (h0,h1,h2)

Let $\mathbb{k}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, and $A={?}_{i\in \mathbb{N}}{A}_i$ a Cohen–Macaulay graded domain with $A_0=\mathbb{k}$. If A is semi-standard graded (i.e., A is finitely generated as a $\mathbb{k}[A_1]$-module), it has the h-vector$(h_0,h_1,\dots ,h_s)$, which encodes the Hilbert function of A. From now on, assume that $s=2$. It is known that if A is standard graded (i.e., $A=\mathbb{k}[A_1]$), then A is level. We will show that, in the semi-standard case, if A is not level, then $h_1+1$ divides $h_2$. Conversely, for any positive integers h and n, there is a non-level A with the h-vector $(1,h,(h+1)n)$. Moreover, such examples can be constructed as Ehrhart rings (equivalently, normal toric rings).     

Maximum average degree and relaxed coloring

We say a graph is $(d,d,\dots ,d,0,\dots ,0)$-colorable with $a$ of $d$’s and $b$ of $0$’s if $V\left(G\right)$ may be partitioned into $b$ independent sets $O_1,O_2,\dots ,O_b$ and $a$ sets $D_1,D_2,\dots ,D_a$ whose induced graphs have maximum degree at most $d$. The maximum average degree, $mad\left(G\right)$, of a graph $G$ is the maximum average degree over all subgraphs of $G$. In this note, for nonnegative integers $a,b$, we show that if $mad\left(G\right)<\frac{4}{3}a+b$, then $G$ is $(1_1,1_2,\dots ,1_a,0_1,\dots ,0_b)$-colorable.     

Boundedness and asymptotic stability of solutions to a two-species chemotaxis system with consumption of chemoattractant

under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a bounded domain $\mathrm{\Omega }?{\mathbb{R}}^n$ ($n\ge 1$) with smooth boundary, where the initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in {(C^0(\stackrel{￣}{\mathrm{\Omega }}))}^2$ and $w_0\in W^{1,\infty }(\mathrm{\Omega })$ are non-negative and the parameters $d_1,d_2,d_3>0$, ${\mu }_1,{\mu }_2>0$, $a_1,a_2>0$ and $\alpha ,\beta >0$. The chemotactic function ${\chi }_i(w)$ ($i=1,2$) is smooth and satisfying some conditions. It is proved that the corresponding initial–boundary value problem possesses a unique global bounded classical solution if one of the following cases hold: for $i=1,2$,(i) ${\chi }_i(w)={\chi }_{0,i}>0$ and

If $a_1,a_2\in (0,1)$ and $u_0\ne 0\ne v_0$, then any global bounded solution exponentially converge to $(\frac{1?a_1}{1?a_1{a}_2},\frac{1?a_2}{1?a_1{a}_2},0)$ as $t\to \infty$;? If $a_1>1>a_2>0$ and $v_0\ne 0$, then any global bounded solution exponentially converge to $(0,1,0)$ as $t\to \infty$;? If $a_1=1>a_2>0$ and $v_0\ne 0$, then any global bounded solution algebraically converge to $(0,1,0)$ as $t\to \infty$.     

Minimal homogeneous Steiner 2-(v,3) trades

A Steiner 2-$(v,3)$ trade is a pair $(T_1,T_2)$ of disjoint partial Steiner triple systems, each on the same set of $v$ points, such that each pair of points occurs in $T_1$ if and only if it occurs in $T_2$. A Steiner 2-$(v,3)$ trade is called d-homogeneous if each point occurs in exactly d blocks of $T_1$ (or $T_2$). In this paper we construct minimal d-homogeneous Steiner 2-$(v,3)$ trades of foundation $v$ and volume $\mathit{dv}/3$ for sufficiently large values of $v$. (Specifically, $v>3(1.75d^2+3)$ if $v$ is divisible by 3 and $v>d(4^{d/3+1}+1)$ otherwise.)     

The E-normal structure of odd dimensional unitary groups

In this paper we define odd dimensional unitary groups ${\mathrm{U}}_{2n+1}(R,\mathrm{\Delta })$. These groups contain as special cases the odd dimensional general linear groups ${\mathrm{GL}}_{2n+1}(R)$ where R is any ring, the odd dimensional orthogonal and symplectic groups ${\mathrm{O}}_{2n+1}(R)$ and ${\mathrm{Sp}}_{2n+1}(R)$ where R is any commutative ring and further the first author's even dimensional unitary groups ${\mathrm{U}}_{2n}(R,\mathrm{\Lambda })$ where $(R,\mathrm{\Lambda })$ is any form ring. We classify the E-normal subgroups of the groups ${\mathrm{U}}_{2n+1}(R,\mathrm{\Delta })$ (i.e. the subgroups which are normalized by the elementary subgroup ${\mathrm{EU}}_{2n+1}(R,\mathrm{\Delta })$), under the condition that R is either a semilocal or quasifinite ring with involution and $n\ge 3$. Further we investigate the action of ${\mathrm{U}}_{2n+1}(R,\mathrm{\Delta })$ by conjugation on the set of all E-normal subgroups.     

Pruned discrete random samples

Let $X_i,i\in \mathbb{N}$, be independent and identically distributed random variables with values in ${\mathbb{N}}_0$. We transform (‘prune’) the sequence $\{X_1,\dots ,X_n\},n\in \mathbb{N}$, of discrete random samples into a sequence $\{0,1,2,\dots ,Y_n\},n\in \mathbb{N}$, of contiguous random sets by replacing $X_{n+1}$ with $Y_n+1$ if $X_{n+1}>Y_n$. We consider the asymptotic behaviour of $Y_n$ as $n\to \infty$. Applications include path growth in digital search trees and the number of tables in Pitmanʼs Chinese restaurant process if the latter is conditioned on its limit value.
