We study backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) for time-changed Lévy noises when the time-change is independent of the Lévy process. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution and we obtain an explicit formula for linear BSDEs and a comparison principle. BSDEs naturally appear in control problems. Here we prove a sufficient maximum principle for a general optimal control problem of a system driven by a time-changed Lévy noise. As an illustration we solve the mean–variance portfolio selection problem.

In this paper we provide existence and uniqueness results for the solution of BSDEs driven by a general square-integrable martingale under partial information. We discuss some special cases where the solution to a BSDE under restricted information can be derived by that related to a problem of a BSDE under full information. In particular, we provide a suitable version of the Föllmer–Schweizer decomposition of a square-integrable random variable working under partial information and we use this achievement to investigate the local risk-minimization approach for a semimartingale financial market model.

This article studies quadratic semimartingale BSDEs arising in power utility maximization when the market price of risk is of BMO type. In a Brownian setting we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a solution but show that uniqueness fails to hold in the sense that there exists a continuum of distinct square-integrable solutions. This feature occurs since, contrary to the classical Itô representation theorem, a representation of random variables in terms of stochastic exponentials is not unique. We study in detail when the BSDE has a bounded solution and derive a new dynamic exponential moments condition which is shown to be the minimal sufficient condition in a general filtration. The main results are complemented by several interesting examples which illustrate their sharpness as well as important properties of the utility maximization BSDE.

In this paper, we provide conditions which ensure that stochastic Lipschitz BSDEs admit Malliavin differentiable solutions. We investigate the problem of existence of densities for the first components of solutions to general path-dependent stochastic Lipschitz BSDEs and obtain results for the second components in particular cases. We apply these results to both the study of a gene expression model in biology and to the classical pricing problems in mathematical finance.

This work deals with backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs for short) with random marked jumps, and their applications to default risk. We show that these BSDEs are linked with Brownian BSDEs through the decomposition of processes with respect to the progressive enlargement of filtrations. We prove that the equations have solutions if the associated Brownian BSDEs have solutions. We also provide a uniqueness theorem for BSDEs with jumps by giving a comparison theorem based on the comparison for Brownian BSDEs. We give in particular some results for quadratic BSDEs. As applications, we study the pricing and the hedging of a European option in a market with a single jump, and the utility maximization problem in an incomplete market with a finite number of jumps.

The local existence and uniqueness of the solutions to backward stochastic differential equations(BSDEs, in short) driven by both fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter H ∈(1/2, 1) and the underlying standard Brownian motions are studied. The generalization of the It formula involving the fractional and standard Brownian motions is provided. By theory of Malliavin calculus and contraction mapping principle, the local existence and uniqueness of the solutions to BSDEs driven by both fractional Brownian motions and the underlying standard Brownian motions are obtained.

Mathematical mean-field approaches have been used in many fields, not only in Physics and Chemistry, but also recently in Finance, Economics, and Game Theory. In this paper we will study a new special mean-field problem in a purely probabilistic method, to characterize its limit which is the solution of mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with reflections. On the other hand, we will prove that this type of reflected mean-field BSDEs can also be obtained as the limit equation of the mean-field BSDEs by penalization method. Finally, we give the probabilistic interpretation of the nonlinear and nonlocal partial differential equations with the obstacles by the solutions of reflected mean-field BSDEs.

ABSTRACT

This paper introduces a class of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs), whose coefficients not only depend on the value of its solutions of the present but also the past and the future. For a sufficiently small time delay or a sufficiently small Lipschitz constant, the existence and uniqueness of such BSDEs is obtained. As an adjoint process, a class of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) is introduced, whose coefficients also depend on the present, the past and the future of its solutions. The existence and uniqueness of such SDEs is proved for a sufficiently small time advance or a sufficiently small Lipschitz constant. A duality between such BSDEs and SDEs is established.

The article first studies the fully coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDEs) with the continuous local martingale. The article is mainly divided into two parts. In the first part, it considers Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) with the continuous local martingale. Then, on the basis of it, in the second part it considers the fully coupled FBSDEs with the continuous local martingale. It is proved that their solutions exist and are unique under the monotonicity conditions.

In this paper, we prove that a kind of second order stochastic differential operator can be represented by the limit of solutions of BSDEs with uniformly continuous coefficients. This result is a generalization of the representation for the uniformly continuous generator. With the help of this representation, we obtain the corresponding converse comparison theorem for the BSDEs with uniformly continuous coefficients, and get some equivalent relationships between the properties of the generator g and the associated solutions of BSDEs. Moreover, we give a new proof about g-convexity.

This paper is devoted to solving one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs), where the time horizon may be finite or infinite and the assumptions on the generator g are not necessary to be uniform on t. We first show the existence of the minimal solution for this kind of BSDEs with linear growth generators. Then, we establish a general comparison theorem for solutions of this kind of BSDEs with weakly monotonic and uniformly continuous generators. Finally, we give an existence and uniqueness result for solutions of this kind of BSDEs with uniformly continuous generators.

This paper provides a simple approach for the consideration of quadratic BSDEs with bounded terminal conditions. Using solely probabilistic arguments, we retrieve the existence and uniqueness result derived via PDE-based methods by Kobylanski (2000) [14]. This approach is related to the study of quadratic BSDEs presented by Tevzadze (2008) [19]. Our argumentation, as in Tevzadze (2008) [19], highly relies on the theory of BMO martingales which was used for the first time for BSDEs by Hu et al. (2005) [12]. However, we avoid in our method any fixed point argument and use Malliavin calculus to overcome the difficulty. Our new scheme of proof allows also to extend the class of quadratic BSDEs, for which there exists a unique solution: we incorporate delayed quadratic BSDEs, whose driver depends on the recent past of the YY component of the solution. When the delay vanishes, we verify that the solution of a delayed quadratic BSDE converges to the solution of the corresponding classical non-delayed quadratic BSDE.

In this paper, we establish a local representation theorem for generators of reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDEs), whose generators are continuous with linear growth. It generalizes some known representation theorems for generators of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs). As some applications, a general converse comparison theorem for RBSDEs is obtained and some properties of RBSDEs are discussed.

Schwarz method is put forward to solve second order backward stochastic differential equations(2BSDEs)in this work.We will analyze uniqueness, convergence, stability and optimality of the proposed method. Moreover, several simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness;several applications of the 2BSDEs are investigated. It is concluded from these results that the proposed the method is powerful to calculate the 2BSDEs listing from the financial engineering.

By replacing the final condition for backward stochastic differential equations (in short: BSDEs) by a stationarity condition on the solution process we introduce a new class of BSDEs. In a natural manner we associate to such BSDEs the periodic solution of second order partial differential equations with periodic structure. We consider backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with a particular quadratic generator and study the behaviour of their solutions when the probability measure is changed, the filtration is shrunk, or the underlying probability space is transformed. Our main results are upper bounds for the solutions of the original BSDEs in terms of solutions to other BSDEs which are easier to solve. We illustrate our results by applying them to exponential utility indifference valuation in a multidimensional It? process setting.

In the Brownian case, the links between dynamic risk measures and BSDEs have been widely studied. In this paper, we consider the case with jumps. We first study the properties of BSDEs driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure. In particular, we provide a comparison theorem under quite weak assumptions, extending that of Royer  [21]. We then give some properties of dynamic risk measures induced by BSDEs with jumps. We provide a representation property of such dynamic risk measures in the convex case as well as some results on a robust optimization problem in the case of model ambiguity.

We examine the connections between a novel class of multi-person stopping games with redistribution of payoffs and multi-dimensional reflected BSDEs in discrete- and continuous-time frameworks. Our goal is to provide an essential extension of classic results for two-player stopping games (Dynkin games) to the multi-player framework. We show the link between certain multi-period mm-player stopping games and a new kind of mm-dimensional reflected BSDEs. The existence and uniqueness of a solution to continuous-time reflected BSDEs are established. Continuous-time redistribution games are constructed with the help of reflected BSDEs and a characterization of the value of such stopping games is provided.
