We study the dynamics of the discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger lattice initialized such that a very long transitory period of time in which standard Boltzmann statistics is insufficient is reached. Our study of the nonlinear system locked in this non-Gibbsian state focuses on the dynamics of discrete breathers (also called intrinsic localized modes). It is found that part of the energy spontaneously condenses into several discrete breathers. Although these discrete breathers are extremely long lived, their total number is found to decrease as the evolution progresses. Even though the total number of discrete breathers decreases we report the surprising observation that the energy content in the discrete breather population increases. We interpret these observations in the perspective of discrete breather creation and annihilation and find that the death of a discrete breather cause effective energy transfer to a spatially nearby discrete breather. It is found that the concepts of a multi-frequency discrete breather and of internal modes is crucial for this process. Finally, we find that the existence of a discrete breather tends to soften the lattice in its immediate neighborhood, resulting in high amplitude thermal fluctuation close to an existing discrete breather. This in turn nucleates discrete breather creation close to a already existing discrete breather. Received 21 January 1999 and Received in final form 20 September 1999  相似文献

In a benchmark dynamical-lattice model in three dimensions, the discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, we find discrete vortex solitons with various values of the topological charge S. Stability regions for the vortices with S=0,1,3 are investigated. The S=2 vortex is unstable and may spontaneously rearranging into a stable one with S=3. In a two-component extension of the model, we find a novel class of stable structures, consisting of vortices in the different components, perpendicularly oriented to each other. Self-localized states of the proposed types can be observed experimentally in Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in optical lattices and in photonic crystals built of microresonators.  相似文献

In the present work, we examine the potential robustness of extreme wave events associated with large amplitude fluctuations of the Peregrine soliton type, upon departure from the integrable analogue of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation, namely the Ablowitz–Ladik (AL) model. Our model of choice will be the so-called Salerno model, which interpolates between the AL and the DNLS models. We find that rogue wave events are drastically distorted even for very slight perturbations of the homotopic parameter connecting the two models off of the integrable limit. Our results suggest that the Peregrine soliton structure is a rather sensitive feature of the integrable limit, which may not persist under “generic” perturbations of the limiting integrable case.  相似文献

We examine a fractional version of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (dnls) equation, where the usual discrete laplacian is replaced by a fractional discrete laplacian. This leads to the replacement of the usual nearest-neighbor interaction to a long-range intersite coupling that decreases asymptotically as a power-law. For the linear case, we compute both, the spectrum of plane waves and the mean square displacement of an initially localized excitation in closed form, in terms of regularized hypergeometric functions, as a function of the fractional exponent. In the nonlinear case, we compute numerically the low-lying nonlinear modes of the system and their stability, as a function of the fractional exponent of the discrete laplacian. The selftrapping transition threshold of an initially localized excitation shifts to lower values as the exponent is decreased and, for a fixed exponent and zero nonlinearity, the trapped fraction remains greater than zero.  相似文献

We study the discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger equation (DNLS) in an annular geometry with on-site defects. The dynamics of a traveling plane-wave maps onto an effective nonrigid pendulum Hamiltonian. The different regimes include the complete reflection and refocusing of the initial wave, solitonic structures, and a superfluid state. In the superfluid regime, which occurs above a critical value of nonlinearity, a plane wave travels coherently through the randomly distributed defects. This superfluidity criterion for the DNLS is analogous to (yet very different from) the Landau superfluidity criteria in translationally invariant systems. Experimental implications for the physics of Bose-Einstein condensate gases trapped in optical potentials and of arrays of optical fibers are discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the nature of the transitions between free and self-trapping states occurring in systems described by augmented forms of the discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger equation. These arise from an interaction between a moving quasiparticle (such as an electron or an exciton) and lattice vibrations, when the effects of nonlinearities in interaction potential and restoring force are included. We derive analytic conditions for the stability of the free state and the crossover between first- and second-order transitions. We demonstrate our results for different types of nonlinearities in the interaction potential and restoring force. We find that, depending on the type of nonlinearity, it is possible to have both first- and second-order transitions. We discuss possible hysteresis effects.  相似文献

The truncated forced nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) model is known to mimic well the forced NLS solutions in the regime at which only one linearly unstable mode exists. Using a novel framework in which a hierarchy of bifurcations is constructed, we analyze this truncated model and provide insights regarding its global structure and the type of instabilities which appear in it. In particular, the significant role of the forcing frequency is revealed and it is shown that a parabolic resonance mechanism of instability arises in the relevant parameter regime of this model. Numerical experiments demonstrating the different types of chaotic motion which appear in the model are provided.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce and propose exact and explicit analytical solutions to a novel model of the nonlinear Schr¨odinger(NLS) equation. This model is derived as the equation governing the dynamics of modulated cutoff waves in a discrete nonlinear electrical lattice. It is characterized by the addition of two terms that involve time derivatives to the classical equation. Through those terms, our model is also tantamount to a generalized NLS equation with saturable;which suggests that the discrete electrical transmission lines can potentially be used to experimentally investigate wave propagation in media that are modeled by such type of nonlinearity. We demonstrate that the new terms can enlarge considerably the forms of the solutions as compared to similar NLS-type equations. Sine–Gordon expansion-method is used to derive numerous kink, antikink, dark, and bright soliton solutions.  相似文献

Various kinds of stationary dark localized modes in discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger equations are considered. A criterion for the existence of such excitations is introduced and an estimation of a localization region is provided. The results are illustrated in examples of the deformable discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, of the model of Frenkel excitons in a chain of two-level atoms, and of the model of a one-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnetic in the stationary phase approximation. The three models display essentially different properties. It is shown that at an arbitrary amplitude of the background it is impossible to reach strong localization of dark modes. In the meantime, in the model of Frenkel excitons, exact dark compacton solutions are found.  相似文献

The structure of the zero modes in a discrete (2+1)-dimensional model of the gauge-invariant nonlinear Schrödinger equation is studied. Including the compactification of the Chern-Simons gauge fields eliminates the difficulties with the continuous model [L. A. Abramyan and A. P. Protogenov, JETP Lett. 64, 859 (1996); L. A. Abramyan, V. I. Berezhiani, and A. P. Protogenov, Phys. Rev. E 56, 6026 (1997)] and leads to a prediction of the existence of a transition region characterized by a hierarchical sequence of collapses which are enumerated by the Chern-Simons coefficient. Using the zero modes in calculating the dependence of the critical power N on the Chern-Simons coefficient, we have found that the transition region lies in the interval 11.703≤N≤12.01.  相似文献

Abstract

A system of two discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations of the Ablowitz-Ladik type with a saturable nonlinearity is shown to admit a doubly periodic wave, whose long wave limit is also derived. As a by-product, several new solutions of the elliptic type are provided for NLS-type discrete and continuous systems.  相似文献

We show that localized N-body soliton states exist for a quantum integrable derivative nonlinear Schrödinger model for several nonoverlapping ranges (called bands) of the coupling constant η. The number of such distinct bands is given by Euler's φ-function which appears in the context of number theory. The ranges of η within each band can also be determined completely using concepts from number theory such as Farey sequences and continued fractions. We observe that N-body soliton states appearing within each band can have both positive and negative momentum. Moreover, for all bands lying in the region η>0, soliton states with positive momentum have positive binding energy (called bound states), while the states with negative momentum have negative binding energy (anti-bound states).  相似文献

We study a nonintegrable discrete nonlinear Schr?dinger (dNLS) equation with the term of nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction occurred in nonlinear optical waveguide arrays. By using discrete Fourier transformation, we obtain numerical approximations of stationary and travelling solitary wave solutions of the nonintegrable dNLS equation. The analysis of stability of stationary solitary waves is performed. It is shown that the nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction term has great influence on the form of solitary wave. The shape of solitary wave is important in the electric field propagating. If we neglect the nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction term, much important information in the electric field propagating may be missed. Our numerical simulation also demonstrates the difference of chaos phenomenon between the nonintegrable dNLS equation with nonlinear nearest-neighbor interaction and another nonintegrable dNLS equation without the term.  相似文献

In this paper we continue some investigations on the periodic NLSEiu u +iu xx +u|u| p-2 (p6) started in [LRS]. We prove that the equation is globally wellposed for a set of data of full normalized Gibbs measrue (after suitableL 2-truncation). The set and the measure are invariant under the flow. The proof of a similar result for the KdV and modified KdV equations is outlined. The main ingredients used are some estimates from [B1] on periodic NLS and KdV type equations.  相似文献

The Ablowitz–Ladik discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger Eq. (IDNLS) has a noncanonical symplectic structure for which standard symplectic integrators are not applicable. Using generating functions we derive higher order symplectic schemes for the IDNLS. A comparison of the efficiency of the symplectic schemes with standard Runge–Kutta algorithms with respect to accuracy and integration time is provided.  相似文献

The discrete Schrödinger equation with a nonlinearity concentrated at a single point is an interesting and important model to study the long-time behavior of solutions, including the asymptotic stability of solitary waves and properties of global attractors. In this note, the global well-posedness of this equation and the existence of solitary waves is proved and the properties of these waves are studied.  相似文献

We consider a damped, parametrically driven discrete nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation, that models coupled pendula and micromechanical arrays, among others. To study the equation, one usually uses a small-amplitude wave ansatz, that reduces the equation into a discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation with damping and parametric drive. Here, we justify the approximation by looking for the error bound with the method of energy estimates. Furthermore, we prove the local and global existence of solutions to the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation. To illustrate the main results, we consider numerical simulations showing the dynamics of errors made by the discrete nonlinear equation. We consider two types of initial conditions, with one of them being a discrete soliton of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, that is expectedly approximate discrete breathers of the nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation.  相似文献
