The retention and separation selectivity of inorganic anions and on-column derivatised negatively charged citrate or oxalate metal complexes on reversed-phase stationary phases dynamically coated with N-(dodecyl-N,N-dimethylammonio)undecanoate (DDMAU) has been investigated. The retention mechanism for the metal-citrate complexes was predominantly anion exchange, although the amphoteric/zwitterionic nature of the stationary phase coating undoubtedly also contributed to the unusual separation selectivity shown. A mixture of 10 inorganic anions and metal cations was achieved using a 20 cm monolithic DDMAU modified column and a 1 mM citrate eluent, pH 4.0, flow rate equal to 0.8 mL/min. Selectivity was found to be strongly pH dependent, allowing additional scope for manipulation of solute retention, and thus application to complex samples. This is illustrated with the analysis of an acidic mine drainage sample with a range of inorganic anions and transition metal cations, varying significantly in their concentrations levels.  相似文献

An ion chromatography method for rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater and edible salt is reported. Separation was achieved using a laboratory-made C30 packed column (100 mm x 0.32 mm i.d.) modified with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). Effects of eluent composition on retention behavior of inorganic anions have been investigated. Both cation and anion of the eluent affected the retention of analyte anions. The retention time of anions increased with increasing eluent concentration when lithium chloride, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate were used as the eluent, while it decreased with increasing eluent concentration when ammonium sulfate was used as the eluent. The detection limit for iodide obtained by injecting 0.2 microl of sample was 9 microg/l (S/N = 3). The present method was successfully applied to the rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater and edible salt samples. Partition may be involved in the present separation mode.  相似文献

Ion chromatography on a 4.0-mm-long (3.0 mm ID) ion exchange column is presented. Using a 10 mM phosphate buffer (pH 2.22) the separation of up to six UV-absorbing anions was obtained using the microcolumn, containing 5 microm RP support (Phenomenex Gemini) coated with the zwitterionic surfactant, (N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethylammonio) undecanoate. The short analytical column facilitated the application of a flow gradient programme over the flow range 0.3-5 mL/min resulting in optimum resolution of nitrite, nitrate, benzoate, iodide, thiocyanate and trichloroacetate in less than 10 min. The effect of both eluent concentration and pH on the retention of six selected anions was investigated, showing a strong pH capacity dependence. The microcolumn was found to exhibit no selectivity towards chloride and so was well suited to the analysis of saline samples. To illustrate this, the rapid analysis of a concentrated iodized table salt sample (20 g/L) was carried out. Following standard addition, a concentration of 3.55 +/- 0.05 microg iodide/g and 1.05 +/- 0.02 microg iodate/g in the solid salt sample was determined.  相似文献

The rapid separation of inorganic anions on short monolithic columns permanently coated with a long chained zwitterionic carboxybetaine-type surfactant is shown. The surfactant, N-dodecyl-N,N-(dimethylammonio)undecanoate (DDMAU), was used to coat 2.5, 5.0 and 10 cm long reversed-phase silica monoliths, resulting in a permanent zwitterionic exchange surface when used with aqueous based eluents. The unique structure of the surfactant results in a charge double layer structure on the surface of the stationary phase, with strong internal anionic and weak external cationic exchange groups. The dissociation of the weak external carboxylic acid group acts to shield the inner anionic exchange site, resulting in substantial effective capacity changes with eluent pH. Utilising this effect with the application of an eluent pH gradient, simultaneously combined with eluent flow-rate gradients, very rapid simultaneous separations of both weakly retained anions and strongly retained polarisable anions was possible, with up to 10-fold decreases in overall run times. Coating stability and retention times under isocratic and isofluentic eluent conditions were shown to be reproducible over >450 repeat injections, with peak efficiency values averaging 29,000 N/m for the 2.5 cm column and 42,000 N/m for the 10 cm monolithic column, again under isocratic elution conditions.  相似文献

An ion chromatographic method for the rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater is reported. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) groups were chemically bonded onto silica gel or C30-bonded silica gel via diol groups. PEG-bonded C30 binary phases allowed determination of iodide in seawater samples without any interference. Effects of eluent composition on retention behavior of inorganic anions have been investigated. Both cation and anion of the eluent affected the retention of analyte anions. The retention time of anions increased with increasing eluent concentration. The detection limit for iodide obtained by injecting 0.2 microl of sample was 13 microg l(-1) (S/N=3) while the limit of quantitation was 43 microg l(-1) (S/N=10). The present method was successfully applied to the rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater with long-term durability.  相似文献

The present article reviews the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) or polyoxyethylene (POE) as the stationary phase for the separation of inorganic anions in ion chromatography and discusses about the retention mechanisms involved in the separation of anions on the novel stationary phases. PEG permanently coated on a hydrophobic stationary phase retained anions in the partition mode and allowed us to use high-concentration eluents because the retention of anions increased with increasing eluent concentration for most of the eluents. This situation was convenient to determine trace anions contained in seawater samples without any disturbance due to matrices. Chemically bonded POE stationary phases retained not only anions but also cations. Anions were retained in the ion-exchange mode, although POE chains possess no ion exchange sites. The retention behavior suggested that eluent cations could be trapped among multiple POE chains via ion-dipole interaction, and that the trapped cations worked as the anion-exchange sites. Anions could be separated using crown ether, i.e., cyclic POE, as the eluent additive with a hydrophobic stationary phase, where analyte anions were retained via electrostatic interaction with the eluent cation trapped on the crown ether.  相似文献

The preparation and evaluation of zirconium-adsorbing silica gel (Zr-Silica) as an ion-exchange stationary phase in ion chromatography for inorganic anions and cations was carried out. The Zr-Silica was prepared by the reaction of silanol groups on the surface of the silica gel with zirconium butoxide (Zr(OCH2CH2CH2CH3)4) in ethanol. The ion-exchange characteristics of the Zr-Silica were evaluated using 10 mM tartaric acid at pH 2.5 as eluent. The Zr-Silica was found to act as a cation-exchanger under the eluent conditions. The retention behavior of alkali and alkaline earth metal cations was then investigated. The Zr-Silica column was proved to be suitable for the simultaneous separation of alkali metal cations and ammonium ion. Excellent separation of the cations on a 15 cm Zr-Silica column was achieved in 25 min using 10 mM tartaric acid as eluent.  相似文献

Results of a detailed study on electron interactions with nitromethane (CH(3)NO(2)) embedded in helium nanodroplets are reported. Anionic and cationic products formed are analysed by mass spectrometry. When the doped helium droplets are irradiated with low-energy electrons of about 2 eV kinetic energy, exclusively parent cluster anions (CH(3)NO(2))(n)(-) are formed. At 8.5 eV, three anion cluster series are observed, i.e., (CH(3)NO(2))(n)(-), [(CH(3)NO(2))(n)-H](-), and (CH(3)NO(2))(n)NO(2)(-), the latter being the most abundant. The results obtained for anions are compared with previous electron attachment studies with bare nitromethane and nitromethane condensed on a surface. The cation chemistry (induced by electron ionization of the helium matrix at 70 eV and subsequent charge transfer from He(+) to the dopant cluster) is dominated by production of methylated and protonated nitromethane clusters, (CH(3)NO(2))(n)CH(3)(+) and (CH(3)NO(2))(n)H(+).  相似文献

An ion chromatographic method for rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater samples is reported. Separation was achieved using a laboratory-made C30 packed column (100 mm × 0.32 mm i.d.) modified with polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, with an aqueous solution of 300 mM sodium chloride as eluent and using UV detection at 220 nm. Samples containing iodate, nitrate, iodide and thiocyanate were eluted within 8 min, and the relative standard deviations of the retention time, peak area and peak height were all smaller than 4.19% for all of the analyte anions. Effects of eluent composition on retention behavior of inorganic anions have been investigated. Both cation and anion of the eluent affected the retention time of analytes. When inorganic eluents, such as ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, lithium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, magnesium chloride and magnesium sulfate were used, the retention time of analytes increased with increasing eluent concentration. The limit of detection of iodide was 19 μg l−1 (S/N = 3), while the limit of quantitation was 66 μg l−1 (S/N = 10). The present method was successfully applied to the rapid and direct determination of iodide in seawater samples.  相似文献

Effects of eluent composition on retention behavior of inorganic anions have been investigated in ion chromatography using anion-exchangers modified with heparin. Both cation and anion of the eluent affected the retention of analyte anions and unusual retention behavior was observed on the modified stationary phase. The retention time of anions decreased with decreasing eluent concentration when sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate and chlorides of alkali metals were used as the eluent, whereas it increased with decreasing eluent concentration when aluminum sulfate, copper sulfate and sulfuric acid were used as the eluent. The retention of nitrate increased in the order of Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+ and Cs+ when their chlorides were used as the eluent. When sodium perchlorate and chlorides of alkaline-earth metals were used as the eluent, the eluent should include heparin. Otherwise, the modifier was partially bled from the column.  相似文献

Fast ion-exchange chromatography has been developed and applied to the separation of common inorganic anions. Using a didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB) coated short (30 mm x 4.6 mm) ODS analytical column (3-microm particle size) and a 5 mM phthalate eluent (pH 7.5) the isocratic separation of nine common anions in 160 s was possible, with the first seven anions, including phosphate, chloride and sulphate, separated within 65 s. Detection was achieved using indirect UV at 279 nm. The high capacity, highly hydrophobic ion-exchange coating demonstrated excellent stability over time, even at elevated temperatures (45 degrees C) and exhibited unusual selectivity for common anions (retention order=fluoride, carbonate, phosphate, chloride, bromate, nitrite, sulphate, bromide and nitrate). The developed chromatography was successfully applied to the rapid analysis of river water and seawater samples.  相似文献

Influence of acidic eluent on retention behaviors of common anions and cations by ion-exclusion/cation-exchange chromatography (ion-exclusion/CEC) were investigated on a weakly acidic cation-exchange resin in the H(+)-form with conductivity. Sensitivities of analyte ions, especially weak acid anions (F(-) and HCOO(-)), were affected with degree of background conductivity level with pK(a1) (first dissociation constant) of acid in eluent. The retention behaviors of anions and cations were related to that of elution dip induced after eluting acid to separation column and injecting analyte sample. These results were largely dependent on the natures of acid as eluent. Through this study, succinic acid as the eluent was suitable for simultaneous separation of strong acid anions (SO(4)(2-), Cl(-), NO(3)(-) and I(-)), weak acid anions (F(-), HCOO(-) and CH(3)COO(-)), and cations (Na(+), K(+), NH(4)(+), Mg(2+) and Ca(2+)). The separation was achieved in 20 min under the optimum eluent condition, 20 mM succinic acid/2 mM 18-crown-6. Detection limits at S/N=3 ranged from 0.10 to 0.51 microM for strong acid anions, 0.20 to 5.04 microM for weak acid anions and 0.75 to 1.72 microM for cations. The relative standard deviations of peak areas in the repeated chromatographic runs (n=10) were in the range of 1.1-2.9% for anions and 1.8-4.5% for cations. This method was successfully applied to hot spring water containing strong acid anions, weak acid anions and cations, with satisfactory results.  相似文献

A carboxybetaine-type zwitterionic stationary phase obtained by immobilizing Mitsubishi Reagent EF-700 (C(8)F(17)SO(2)NHC(3)H(6)N(+) (CH(3))(2)-C(2)H(4)-COO(-)) onto a reversed-phase column was used for chromatographic separation of ions. When aqueous electrolyte solutions having higher pH values (>8) were used as eluents, the model analyte ions (NO(2)(-), H(2)PO(4)(-), Cl(-), Br(-), NO(3)(-), ClO(3)(-), I(-) and SCN(-)) were co-eluted and appeared at the void volume of this HPLC system. However, when aqueous electrolyte solutions having lower pH values (<5.5) were used as eluents, these anions were well retained and separated. Furthermore, when acetate buffers (NaAc/HAc) were used as eluents, plots of log k' (k', retention factor) versus pH of eluents (at constant [NaAc+HAc]), and log k' versus log [NaAc+HAc] (at constant pH), were linear with negative slopes. Breakthrough curves for acid solutions obtained using conductivity detection showed that H(+) ions and their conjugate anions were both retained on the stationary phase and the degree of binding was found to be independent of the acid species used. The degree to which the eluent cation was bound onto the carboxylate functionality of the zwitterion was found to exert a major effect on the retention of analyte anions. A strongly bound cation, such as H(+), reduced electrostatic repulsion effects exerted by the carboxylate functionality on analyte anions, so that they could freely access the quaternary ammonium sites on the zwitterion. It is concluded based on these experimental results that both the charges on the zwitterionic stationary phase make meaningful contributions to the separation of the analyte ions.  相似文献

The retention behavior of inorganic anions on a triazole-based stationary phase was first examined in ion chromatography. It was initially designed for hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography and was simply prepared by introducing the triazole groups onto the surface of silica gel via click chemistry. Effective separation of common inorganic anions, including iodate, chloride, bromide, nitrate and iodide, was achieved with Na(2)SO(4) eluent. The logarithm of the retention factor of analytes was observed to be linear with the logarithm of the eluent concentration, and the slopes of the plots were almost the same as those of the ideal theoretical value. The eluent pH value in the range of 3.4-7.0 had little effect on the separation. The utility of the column was demonstrated for the determination of UV-absorbing anions in saliva and tap water.  相似文献

Methyl-capped poly(ethylene oxide) moieties were chemically bonded to silica gel using an amine-reactive modification reagent and evaluated as the stationary phase for ion chromatography. In this work, primary amino groups of an aminopropylsilica packing material were reacted with methyl-PEO12-NHS ester (succinimidyl-{[N-methyl]-dodecaethyleneglycol} ester) in phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) at room temperature. The prepared poly(ethylene oxide)-bonded stationary was evaluated for the separation of inorganic anions, and the retention behavior of inorganic anions on the prepared stationary phase was examined. The elution order of the investigated anions was the same as that observed in common ion chromatography. Both cations and anions of the eluent affected the retention of the analyte anions. Ion exchange was involved for the retention of analyte anions, although the present stationary phase does not possess any discrete ion-exchange sites. The stationary phase was applied to the separation of trace anions contained in tap water and a rock salt.  相似文献

This work focuses on problems regarding empirical retention modelling and optimization of separation in ion chromatography. Influences of eluent flow rate and concentration of eluent competing ion (OH) on separation of seven inorganic anions (fluoride, chloride, nitrite, sulphate, bromide, nitrate, and phosphate) were investigated. Artificial neural networks and multiple linear regression retention models in combination with several criteria functions were used and compared in global optimization process. It can be seen that general recommendations for optimization of separation in ion chromatography is application of chromatography exponential function criterion in combination with artificial neural networks retention model.  相似文献

An unmodified silica gel (Develosil 30-5) column (150×4.6 mm I.D.) has been applied to the ion chromatographic separation of alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal cations. The retention behavior of the above cations on the bare substrate was investigated using a number of weak inorganic and organic acid eluents. During this investigation, several separations were achieved and the most suitable eluent conditions were identified. It was concluded that: (a) 1.5 mM HNO3-0.5mM pyridine-2,6-dicar☐ylic acid eluent was the most effective for the simultaneous separation of common alkali and alkaline earth metal cations, (b) 1.5 mM oxalic acid eluent resulted in the best separation of alkali, alkaline earth, and transition metal cations, (c) 0.5 mM CuSO4 eluent could be used for the separation of alkali metal cations alone and (d) 0.5 mM ethylenediamine-oxalic acid eluent at pH 5.5 resulted in themost efficient separation of both alkaline earth and transition metal cations.  相似文献

A new imidazolium anion-exchange phase immobilized on silica is synthesized. HPLC separations of common inorganic anions (IO3-, Cl-, NO2-, Br-, NO3-, I-, SCN-) have been performed using a HPLC column (200 mm x 4.6 mm I.D.) packed with this stationary phase, with a phosphate buffer solution as the mobile phase and UV detection at 200 nm. The effects of pH and concentration of eluent on the separation of anions have been studied. Chromatographic parameters are calculated and the results show that the new stationary phase is of significant potential for the analysis of these anions. Successful separations of some ordinary organic anions have also been achieved with the said stationary phase. Meaningfully, organic and inorganic anions can be determined simultaneously and satisfactorily with several neutral compounds using the column. The separation of some organic compounds including hydroxybenzenes, bases and amines by this stationary phase with only water as the eluent has been investigated.  相似文献

Separations of common inorganic anions were carried out on ODS columns coated with two long-chain alkylimidazolium ionic liquids ([C(12)MIm]Br and [C(14)MIm]Br) as new cationic surfactants for ion chromatography. With phthalate buffer solution as the mobile phases and non-suppressed conductivity detection, high column efficiencies and excellent selectivity were obtained in the separation of inorganic anions. Chromatographic parameters are calculated and the results show that the coated column possesses significant potential for the analysis of some inorganic anions such as CH(3)COO(-), IO(3)(-), Cl(-), BrO(3)(-), NO(2)(-), Br(-), NO(3)(-), SO(4)(2-), I(-), BF(4)(-), and SCN(-). The effect of eluent pH values on the separation of anions has been studied on the column coated with [C(12)MIm]Br. The stability of the coated columns was also examined.  相似文献
