Diamond anvil cell, 50th birthday

The year 2008 marked the fiftieth birthday of the diamond anvil cell. Its birth took place when Alvin Van Valkenburg, while working with his colleagues, Charles E. Weir, Ellis R. Lippincott, and Elmer N. Bunting, first realized that he could look right through one of the diamond anvils and see a sample while it was at high pressure. In the following years, these scientists and many others adapted the diamond anvil cell to a wide variety of analytical techniques that have provided an impressive amount of information about materials at high pressures and high temperatures. But, virtually all of those techniques start with looking into the diamond anvil cell.

根据已公开的报道,评述了从爱因斯坦提出受激发射概念到梅曼研制出第一台激光器的大致过程.     

Delayed fission of atomic nuclei (To the 50th anniversary of the discovery)

The history of the discovery of delayed nuclear fission is presented, and the retrospective of investigations into this phenomenon that were performed at various research centers worldwide is outlined. The results obtained by measuring basic delayed-fission features, including the fission probability, the total kinetic energy of fission fragments, and their mass distributions, are analyzed. Recommendations concerning further studies in various regions of nuclear map with the aim of searches for and investigation of atomic nuclei undergoing delayed fission are given. Lines of further research into features of delayed fission with the aim of solving current problems of fission physics are discussed.     

The 4th structure

According to conclusions made by F. Montaner and E. Zelmanov (unpublished), there exist four Lie bialgebra structures on g[u] up to classical twisting. Therefore we investigated four possible cases for the classical double and the corresponding Lie co-bracket on g[u]. Among them, a new case, where the Lie bialgebra structures are in anone-to-one correspondence with the first introduced herequasi-rational solutions of the CYBE. We also consideredquasi-rational r-matrices in sl(n), particularly, we calculated all the quasi-rationalr-matrices in sl(2).

The 4th concept detector

The 4th concept detector consists of four detector subsystems, a small-pixel vertex detector, a high-resolution TPC, a new multiple-readout fiber calorimeter and a new dual-solenoid iron-free muon system. We discuss the design of a comprehensive facility that measures and identifies all partons of the standard model, including hadronic W → jj and Z → jj decays, with high precision and high efficiency. We emphasis here the calorimeter and muon systems.
