Conventional chemical patterning involves films of polymeric materials. Herein, we demonstrate that the presence or absence of guest solvents in the crystal voids modulates the patterning of the cyclobutane rings in highly strained metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) under UV light. The olefin pairs of the spacer ligands, which resemble a ladder‐like structure, in the MOF, undergo a [2+2] cycloaddition reaction in a single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal manner. For instance, a partial photoreaction in the MOFs in the absence of a guest solvent as well as with dimethylacetamide in the voids generated two different patterns of the cyclobutane rings. Surprisingly, the MOF with the lattice dimethylformamide undergoes 100 % photoreaction, but the photoproduct contains broken chains. Such chemical patterning at the molecular level represents a next step in crystal engineering.  相似文献

Organic polymers are usually amorphous or possess very low crystallinity. The metal complexes of organic polymeric ligands are also difficult to crystallize by traditional methods because of their poor solubilities and their 3D structures can not be determined by single‐crystal X‐ray crystallography owing to a lack of single crystals. Herein, we report the crystal structure of a 1D ZnII coordination polymer fused with an organic polymer ligand made in situ by a [2+2] cycloaddition reaction of a six‐fold interpenetrated metal–organic framework. It is also shown that this organic polymer ligand can be depolymerized in a single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) fashion by heating. This strategy could potentially be extended to make a range of monocrystalline metal organopolymeric complexes and metal–organic organopolymeric hybrid materials. Such monocrystalline metal complexes of organic polymers have hitherto been inaccessible for materials researchers.  相似文献

The single crystals of two structural isomers of bis-olefinic molecules were shown to have contrasting properties in terms of their photoreactivity: one exhibits an excellent ability to form polymers, accompanied with bending of crystals upon irradiation, while the other is photostable. The photoreactive crystal is a first example in which [2+2] polymerization leads to bending of the crystals, with implications for the design of photoactuators. The hydrate formation ability of one of these molecular isomers promotes the solid-state reactivity in its crystal, as the H2O molecules act as a template to bring the olefin molecules into the required arrangement for [2+2] polymerization. Further, the crystals of the polymer exhibited better flexibility and smoothed surfaces compared to those of the monomers. In addition, under UV-light the diene emits bluish violet light while the polymer emits green light, indicating that the luminescence property can be tuned through photoirradiation.  相似文献

Conformational changes of linker units in metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) are often responsible for gate‐opening phenomena in selective gas adsorption and stimuli‐responsive optical and electrical sensing behaviour. Herein, we show that pressure‐induced bathochromic shifts in both fluorescence emission and UV/Vis absorption spectra of a two‐fold interpenetrated Hf MOF, linked by 1,4‐phenylene‐bis(4‐ethynylbenzoate) ligands ( Hf‐peb ), are induced by rotation of the central phenyl ring of the linker, from a coplanar arrangement to a twisted, previously unseen conformer. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, alongside in situ fluorescence and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopies, measured up to 2.1 GPa in a diamond anvil cell on single crystals, are in excellent agreement, correlating linker rotation with modulation of emission. Topologically isolating the 1,4‐phenylene‐bis(4‐ethynylbenzoate) units within a MOF facilitates concurrent structural and spectroscopic studies in the absence of intermolecular perturbation, allowing characterisation of the luminescence properties of a high‐energy, twisted conformation of the previously well‐studied chromophore. We expect the unique environment provided by network solids, and the capability of combining crystallographic and spectroscopic analysis, will greatly enhance understanding of luminescent molecules and lead to the development of novel sensors and adsorbents.  相似文献

Three highly porous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with a uniform rht‐type topological network but hierarchical pores were successfully constructed by the assembly of triazole‐containing dendritic hexacarboxylate ligands with ZnII ions. These transparent MOF crystals present gradually increasing pore sizes upon extension of the length of the organic backbone, as clearly identified by structural analysis and gas‐adsorption experiments. The inherent accessibility of the pores to large molecules endows these materials with unique properties for the uptake of large guest molecules. The visible selective adsorption of dye molecules makes these MOFs highly promising porous materials for pore‐size‐dependent large‐molecule capture and separation.  相似文献

When components of a metal–organic framework (MOF) and a crystal growth modulator diffuse through a gel medium, they can form arrays of regularly‐spaced precipitation bands containing MOF crystals of different morphologies. With time, slow variations in the local concentrations of the growth modulator cause the crystals to change their shapes, ultimately resulting in unusual concave microcrystallites not available via solution‐based methods. The reaction–diffusion and periodic precipitation phenomena 1) extend to various types of MOFs and also MOPs (metal–organic polyhedra), and 2) can be multiplexed to realize within one gel multiple growth conditions, in effect leading to various crystalline phases or polycrystalline formations.  相似文献

Cooperative cluster metalation and ligand migration were performed on a Zr‐MOF, leading to the isolation of unique bimetallic MOFs based on decanuclear Zr6M4 (M=Ni, Co) clusters. The M2+ reacts with the μ3‐OH and terminal H2O ligands on an 8‐connected [Zr6O4(OH)8(H2O)4] cluster to form a bimetallic [Zr6M4O8(OH)8(H2O)8] cluster. Along with the metalation of Zr6 cluster, ligand migration is observed in which a Zr–carboxylate bond dissociates to form a M–carboxylate bond. Single‐crystal to single‐crystal transformation is realized so that snapshots for cooperative cluster metalation and ligand migration processes are captured by successive single‐crystal X‐ray structures. In3+ was metalated into the same Zr‐MOF which showed excellent catalytic activity in the acetaldehyde cyclotrimerization reaction. This work not only provides a powerful tool to functionalize Zr‐MOFs with other metals, but also structurally elucidates the formation mechanism of the resulting heterometallic MOFs.  相似文献

An unusual 1D‐to‐3D transformation of a coordination polymer based on organic linkers containing highly polar push–pull π‐conjugated side chains is reported. The coordination polymers are synthesized from zinc nitrate and an organic linker, namely, 2,5‐bis{4‐[1‐(4‐nitrophenyl)pyrrolidin‐2‐yl]butoxy}terephthalic acid, which possesses highly polar (4‐nitrophenyl)pyrrolidine groups, with high dipole moments of about 7 D. The coordination polymers exhibit an unusual transformation from a soluble, solvent‐stabilized 1D coordination polymer into an insoluble, metal–organic framework (MOF)‐like 3D coordination polymer. The coordination polymer exhibits good film‐forming ability, and the MOF‐like films are insoluble in conventional organic solvents.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), as a class of microporous materials with well‐defined channels and rich functionalities, hold great promise for various applications. Yet the formation and crystallization processes of various MOFs with distinct topology, connectivity, and properties remain largely unclear, and the control of such processes is rather challenging. Starting from a 0D Cu coordination polyhedron, MOP‐1, we successfully unfolded it to give a new 1D‐MOF by a single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) transformation process at room temperature as confirmed by SXRD. We also monitored the continuous transformation states by FTIR and PXRD. Cu MOFs with 2D and 3D networks were also obtained from this 1D‐MOF by SCSC transformations. Furthermore, Cu MOFs with 0D, 1D, and 3D networks, MOP‐1, 1D‐MOF, and HKUST‐1, show unique performances in the kinetics of the C?H bond catalytic oxidation reaction.  相似文献

Hybridization of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and polymers into composites yields materials that display the exceptional properties of MOFs with the robustness of polymers. However, the realization of MOF–polymer composites requires efficient dispersion and interactions of MOF particles with polymer matrices, which remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a simple, scalable, bench‐top approach to covalently tethered nylon–MOF polymer composite materials through an interfacial polymerization technique. The copolymerization of a modified UiO‐66‐NH2 MOF with a growing polyamide fiber (PA‐66) during an interfacial polymerization gave hybrid materials with up to around 29 weight percent MOF. The covalent hybrid material demonstrated nearly an order of magnitude higher catalytic activity for the breakdown of a chemical warfare simulant (dimethyl‐4‐nitrophenyl phosphate, DMNP) compared to MOFs that are non‐covalently, physically entrapped in nylon, thus highlighting the importance of MOF–polymer hybridization.  相似文献

Hollow metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising materials with sophisticated structures, such as multiple shells, that cannot only enhance the properties of MOFs but also endow them with new functions. Herein, we show a rational strategy to fabricate multi‐shelled hollow chromium (III) terephthalate MOFs (MIL‐101) with single‐crystalline shells through step‐by‐step crystal growth and subsequent etching processes. This strategy relies on the creation of inhomogeneous MOF crystals in which the outer layer is chemically more robust than the inner layer and can be selectively etched by acetic acid. The regulation of MOF nucleation and crystallization allows the tailoring of the cavity size and shell thickness of each layer. The resultant multi‐shelled hollow MIL‐101 crystals show significantly enhanced catalytic activity during styrene oxidation. The insight gained from this systematic study will aid in the rational design and synthesis of other multi‐shelled hollow structures and the further expansion of their applications.  相似文献

Controlling the arrangement of different metal ions to achieve ordered heterogeneity in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been a great challenge. Herein, we introduce a template‐directed approach, in which a 1D metal–organic polymer incorporating well‐defined binding pockets for the secondary metal ions used as a structural template and starting material for the preparation of well‐ordered bimetallic MOF‐74s under heterogeneous‐phase hydrothermal reaction conditions in the presence of secondary metal ions such as Ni2+ and Mg2+ in 3 h. The resulting bimetallic MOF‐74s were found to possess a nearly 1:1 metal ratio regardless of their initial stoichiometry in the reaction mixture, thus demonstrating the possibility of controlling the arrangement of metal ions within the secondary building blocks in MOFs to tune their intrinsic properties such as gas affinity.  相似文献

Two metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with Zr–oxo secondary building units (SBUs) were prepared by using p,p′‐terphenyldicarboxylate (TPDC) bridging ligands pre‐functionalized with orthogonal succinic acid (MOF‐ 1 ) and maleic acid groups (MOF‐ 2 ). Single‐crystal X‐ray structure analysis of MOF‐ 1 provides the first direct evidence for eight‐connected SBUs in UiO‐type MOFs. In contrast, MOF‐ 2 contains twelve‐connected SBUs as seen in the traditional UiO MOF topology. These structural assignments were confirmed by extended X‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis. The highly porous MOF‐ 1 is an excellent fluorescence sensor for metal ions with the detection limit of <0.5 ppb for Mn2+and three to four orders of magnitude greater sensitivity for metal ions than previously reported luminescent MOFs.  相似文献

A tetra(carboxylated) PCP pincer ligand has been synthesized as a building block for porous coordination polymers (PCPs). The air‐ and moisture‐stable PCP metalloligands are rigid tetratopic linkers that are geometrically akin to ligands used in the synthesis of robust metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Here, the design principle is demonstrated by cyclometalation with PdIICl and subsequent use of the metalloligand to prepare a crystalline 3D MOF by direct reaction with CoII ions and structural resolution by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The Pd?Cl groups inside the pores are accessible to post‐synthetic modifications that facilitate chemical reactions previously unobserved in MOFs: a Pd?CH3 activated material undergoes rapid insertion of CO2 gas to give Pd?OC(O)CH3 at 1 atm and 298 K. However, since the material is highly selective for the adsorption of CO2 over CO, a Pd?N3 modified version resists CO insertion under the same conditions.  相似文献

Extended tetratopic benzoic acid ligands with “orthogonal-twisted-arms” conformations were designed and synthesized for the construction of new MOF structures (OTA-MOF). Upon coordination with Cd2+ and Cu2+ cations, two well-defined new MOFs were prepared. X-ray single crystal structures were successfully obtained, demonstrating the formation of a new topology (4,4,4-c). The OTA2-MOF-Cu gave moderate stability in organic solvents and good gas sorption ability toward CO2. This new MOF showed superior catalytic reactivity toward the epoxide-CO2 cycloaddition, giving >50 folds yield enhancement over the controlled reaction without MOF. It is expected that this new ligand design, porous structure, and excellent CO2 catalytic reactivity will make OTA-MOF promising new materials for applications in catalysis and separation.  相似文献

Preparation of porous materials from one‐dimensional polymers is challenging because the packing of polymer chains results in a dense, non‐porous arrangement. Herein, we demonstrate the remarkable adaptation of an amorphous, linear, non‐porous, flexible organic polymer into a three‐dimensional, highly porous, crystalline solid, as the organic component of a metal–organic framework (MOF). A polymer with aromatic dicarboxylic acids in the backbone functioned as a polymer ligand upon annealing with ZnII, generating a polymer–metal–organic framework (polyMOF). These materials break the dogma that MOFs must be prepared from small, rigid ligands. Similarly, polyMOFs contradict conventional polymer chemistry by demonstrating that linear and amorphous polymers can be readily coaxed into a highly crystalline, porous, three‐dimensional structure by coordination chemistry.  相似文献

Interpenetration in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is an intriguing phenomenon with significant impacts on their properties, and functional applications. Herein, we show that a 7‐fold interpenetrated MOF ( 1 ) is transformed into an 8‐fold interpenetrated MOF by the loss of DMF in a single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal manner. This is accompanied by a giant enhancement of the second harmonic generation (SHG ca. 125 times) and two‐photon photoluminescence (ca. 14 times). The strengthened π–π interaction between the individual diamondoid networks and intensified oscillator strength of the molecules aid the augment of dipole moments and boost the nonlinear optical conversion efficiency. Large positive and negative thermal expansions of 1 occur at 30–150 °C before the loss of DMF. These results offer an avenue to manipulate the NLO properties of MOFs using interpenetration and provide access to tunable single‐crystal NLO devices.  相似文献

While metal–organic frameworks (MOF) alone offer a wide range of structural tunability, the formation of composites, through the introduction of other non-native species, like polymers, can further broaden their structure/property spectrum. Here we demonstrate that a polymer, placed inside the MOF pores, can support the collapsible MOF and help inhibit the aggregation of nickel during pyrolysis; this leads to the formation of single atom nickel species in the resulting nitrogen doped carbons, and dramatically improves the activity, CO selectivity and stability in electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. Considering the vast number of multifarious MOFs and polymers to choose from, we believe this strategy can open up more possibilities in the field of catalyst design, and further contribute to the already expansive set of MOF applications.

Heterometallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) allow the precise placement of various metals at atomic precision within a porous framework. This new level of control by MOFs promises fascinating advances in basic science and application. However, the rational design and synthesis of heterometallic MOFs remains a challenge due to the complexity of the heterometallic systems. Herein, we show that bimetallic MOFs with MX2(INA)4 moieties (INA=isonicotinate; M=Co2+ or Fe2+; X=OH?, Cl?, Br?, I?, NCS?, or NCSe?) can be generated by the sequential modification of a Zr‐based MOF. This multi‐step modification not only replaced the linear organic linker with a square planar MX2(INA)4 unit, but also altered the symmetry, unit cell, and topology of the parent structure. Single‐crystal to single‐crystal transformation is realized so that snapshots for transition process were captured by successive single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Furthermore, the installation of Co(NCS)2(INA)4 endows field‐induced slow magnetic relaxation property to the diamagnetic Zr‐MOF.  相似文献

In our continuing quest to develop a metal–organic framework (MOF)‐catalyzed tandem pyrrole acylation–Nazarov cyclization reaction with α,β‐unsaturated carboxylic acids for the synthesis of cyclopentenone[b]pyrroles, which are key intermediates in the synthesis of natural product (±)‐roseophilin, a series of template‐induced Zn‐based ( 1–3 ) metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have been solvothermally synthesized and characterized. Structural conversions from non‐porous MOF 1 to porous MOF 2 , and back to non‐porous MOF 3 arising from the different concentrations of template guest have been observed. The anion–π interactions between the template guests and ligands could affect the configuration of ligands and further tailor the frameworks of 1–3 . Futhermore, MOFs 1–3 have shown to be effective heterogeneous catalysts for the tandem acylation–Nazarov cyclization reaction. In particular, the unique structural features of 2 , including accessible catalytic sites and suitable channel size and shape, endow 2 with all of the desired features for the MOF‐catalyzed tandem acylation–Nazarov cyclization reaction, including heterogeneous catalyst, high catalytic activity, robustness, and excellent selectivity. A plausible mechanism for the catalytic reaction has been proposed and the structure–reactivity relationship has been further clarified. Making use of 2 as a heterogeneous catalyst for the reaction could greatly increase the yield of total synthesis of (±)‐roseophilin.  相似文献
