Riemannian quadratics are C 1 curves on Riemannian manifolds, obtained by performing the quadratic recursive deCastlejeau algorithm in a Riemannian setting. They are of interest for interpolation problems in Riemannian manifolds, such as trajectory-planning for rigid body motion. Some interpolation properties of Riemannian quadratics are analysed when the ambient manifold is a sphere or projective space, with the usual Riemannian metrics.  相似文献

We prove that the L 2 Riemannian metric on the manifold of all smooth Riemannian metrics on a fixed closed, finite-dimensional manifold induces a metric space structure. As the L 2 metric is a weak Riemannian metric, this fact does not follow from general results. In addition, we prove several results on the exponential mapping and distance function of a weak Riemannian metric on a Hilbert/Fréchet manifold. The statements are analogous to, but weaker than, what is known in the case of a Riemannian metric on a finite-dimensional manifold or a strong Riemannian metric on a Hilbert manifold.  相似文献

The Ricci flow is an evolution equation in the space of Riemannian metrics.A solution for this equation is a curve on the manifold of Riemannian metrics. In this paper we introduce a metric on the manifold of Riemannian metrics such that the Ricci flow becomes a geodesic. We show that the Ricci solitons introduce a special slice on the manifold of Riemannian metrics.  相似文献

We introduce Riemannian Lie algebroids as a generalization of Riemannian manifolds and we show that most of the classical tools and results known in Riemannian geometry can be stated in this setting. We give also some new results on the integrability of Riemannian Lie algebroids.  相似文献

We are concerned with the global weak rigidity of the Gauss–Codazzi–Ricci (GCR) equations on Riemannian manifolds and the corresponding isometric immersions of Riemannian manifolds into the Euclidean spaces. We develop a unified intrinsic approach to establish the global weak rigidity of both the GCR equations and isometric immersions of the Riemannian manifolds, independent of the local coordinates, and provide further insights of the previous local results and arguments. The critical case has also been analyzed. To achieve this, we first reformulate the GCR equations with div-curl structure intrinsically on Riemannian manifolds and develop a global, intrinsic version of the div-curl lemma and other nonlinear techniques to tackle the global weak rigidity on manifolds. In particular, a general functional-analytic compensated compactness theorem on Banach spaces has been established, which includes the intrinsic div-curl lemma on Riemannian manifolds as a special case. The equivalence of global isometric immersions, the Cartan formalism, and the GCR equations on the Riemannian manifolds with lower regularity is established. We also prove a new weak rigidity result along the way, pertaining to the Cartan formalism, for Riemannian manifolds with lower regularity, and extend the weak rigidity results for Riemannian manifolds with corresponding different metrics.  相似文献

A Riemannian orbifold is a mildly singular generalization of a Riemannian manifold which is locally modeled on the quotient of a connected, open manifold under a finite group of isometries. If all of the isometries used to define the local structures of an entire orbifold are orientation preserving, we call the orbifold locally orientable. We use heat invariants to show that a Riemannian orbifold which is locally orientable cannot be Laplace isospectral to a Riemannian orbifold which is not locally orientable. As a corollary we observe that a Riemannian orbifold that is not locally orientable cannot be Laplace isospectral to a Riemannian manifold.  相似文献

A map of a Riemannian manifold into an euclidian space is said to be transnormal if its restrictions to neighbourhoods of regular level sets are integrable Riemannian submersions. Analytic transnormal maps can be used to describe isoparametric submanifolds in spaces of constant curvature and equifocal submanifolds with flat sections in simply connected symmetric spaces. These submanifolds are also regular leaves of singular Riemannian foliations with sections. We prove that regular level sets of an analytic transnormal map on a real analytic complete Riemannian manifold are equifocal submanifolds and leaves of a singular Riemannian foliation with sections.  相似文献

We study harmonic Riemannian maps on locally conformal Kaehler manifolds (lcK manifolds). We show that if a Riemannian holomorphic map between lcK manifolds is harmonic, then the Lee vector field of the domain belongs to the kernel of the Riemannian map under a condition. When the domain is Kaehler, we prove that a Riemannian holomorphic map is harmonic if and only if the lcK manifold is Kaehler. Then we find similar results for Riemannian maps between lcK manifolds and Sasakian manifolds. Finally, we check the constancy of some maps between almost complex (or almost contact) manifolds and almost product manifolds.  相似文献

The local geometry of a Riemannian symmetric space is described completely by the Riemannian metric and the Riemannian curvature tensor of the space. In the present article I describe how to compute these tensors for any Riemannian symmetric space from its Satake diagram, in a way that is suited for the use with computer algebra systems; an example implementation for Maple Version 10 can be found on . As an example application, the totally geodesic submanifolds of the Riemannian symmetric space SU(3)/SO(3) are classified.   相似文献

A characterization of Lipschitz behavior of functions defined on Riemannian manifolds is given in this paper. First, it is extended the concept of proximal subgradient and some results of proximal analysis from Hilbert space to Riemannian manifold setting. A technique introduced by Clarke, Stern and Wolenski [F.H. Clarke, R.J. Stern, P.R. Wolenski, Subgradient criteria for monotonicity, the Lipschitz condition, and convexity, Canad. J. Math. 45 (1993) 1167-1183], for generating proximal subgradients of functions defined on a Hilbert spaces, is also extended to Riemannian manifolds in order to provide that characterization. A number of examples of Lipschitz functions are presented so as to show that the Lipschitz behavior of functions defined on Riemannian manifolds depends on the Riemannian metric.  相似文献

There is a simple equivalence between isoperimetric inequalities in Riemannian manifolds and certain analytic inequalities on the same manifold, more extensive than the familiar equivalence of the classical isoperimetric inequality in Euclidean space and the associated Sobolev inequality. By an isoperimetric inequality in this connection we mean any inequality involving the Riemannian volume and Riemannian surface measure of a subset α and its boundary, respectively. We exploit the equivalence to give log-Sobolev inequalities for Riemannian manifolds. Some applications to Schrödinger equations are also given.  相似文献

The article presents an information about the Laplace operator defined on the real-valued mappings of compact Riemannian manifolds, and its spectrum; some properties of the latter are studied. The relationship between the spectra of two Riemannian manifolds connected by a Riemannian submersion with totally geodesic fibers is established. We specify a method of calculating the spectrum of the Laplacian for simply connected simple compact Lie groups with biinvariant Riemannian metrics, by representations of their Lie algebras. As an illustration, the spectrum of the Laplacian on the group SU(2) is found.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of computing the Riemannian center of mass of a collection of symmetric positive definite matrices. We show in detail that the condition number of the Riemannian Hessian of the underlying optimization problem is never very ill conditioned in practice, which explains why the Riemannian steepest descent approach has been observed to perform well. We also show theoretically and empirically that this property is not shared by the Euclidean Hessian. We then present a limited‐memory Riemannian BFGS method to handle this computational task. We also provide methods to produce efficient numerical representations of geometric objects that are required for Riemannian optimization methods on the manifold of symmetric positive definite matrices. Through empirical results and a computational complexity analysis, we demonstrate the robust behavior of the limited‐memory Riemannian BFGS method and the efficiency of our implementation when compared to state‐of‐the‐art algorithms.  相似文献

A Riemannian g.o. manifold is a homogeneous Riemannian manifold (M,g) on which every geodesic is an orbit of a one-parameter group of isometries. It is known that every simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifold of dimension ?5 is naturally reductive. In dimension 6 there are simply connected Riemannian g.o. manifolds which are in no way naturally reductive, and their full classification is known (including compact examples). In dimension 7, just one new example has been known up to now (namely, a Riemannian nilmanifold constructed by C. Gordon). In the present paper we describe compact irreducible 7-dimensional Riemannian g.o. manifolds (together with their “noncompact duals”) which are in no way naturally reductive.  相似文献

We study the nontrivial Killing vector fields of constant length and the corresponding flows on complete smooth Riemannian manifolds. Various examples are constructed of the Killing vector fields of constant length generated by the isometric effective almost free but not free actions of S 1 on the Riemannian manifolds close in some sense to symmetric spaces. The latter manifolds include “almost round” odd-dimensional spheres and unit vector bundles over Riemannian manifolds. We obtain some curvature constraints on the Riemannian manifolds admitting nontrivial Killing fields of constant length.  相似文献

In this paper geodesic mappings of equidistant generalized Riemannian spaces are discussed. It is proved that each equidistant generalized Riemannian space of basic type admits non-trivial geodesic mapping with preserved equidistant congruence. Especially, there exists non-trivial geodesic mapping of equidistant generalized Riemannian space onto equidistant Riemannian space. An example of geodesic mapping of an equidistant generalized Riemannian spaces is presented.  相似文献

Envelopes of splines in the projective plane   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper a family of curves—Riemannian cubics—inthe unit sphere and the real projective plane is investigated.Riemannian cubics naturally arise as solutions to variationalproblems in Riemannian spaces. It is remarkable to find thatan envelope of lines generated by a Riemannian cubic in onespace is (nearly) a Riemannian cubic in another space.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the impact of geodesic vector fields (vector fields whose trajectories are geodesics) on the geometry of a Riemannian manifold. Since, Killing vector fields of constant lengths on a Riemannian manifold are geodesic vector fields, leads to the question of finding sufficient conditions for a geodesic vector field to be Killing. In this paper, we show that a lower bound on the Ricci curvature of the Riemannian manifold in the direction of geodesic vector field gives a sufficient condition for the geodesic vector field to be Killing. Also, we use a geodesic vector field on a 3-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold to find sufficient conditions to be isometric to a 3-sphere. We find a characterization of an Einstein manifold using a Killing vector field. Finally, it has been observed that a major source of geodesic vector fields is provided by solutions of Eikonal equations on a Riemannian manifold and we obtain a characterization of the Euclidean space using an Eikonal equation.  相似文献

Riemannian cubics are curves that generalise cubic polynomials to arbitrary Riemannian manifolds, in the same way that geodesics generalise straight lines. Considering that geodesics can be extended indefinitely in any complete manifold, we ask whether Riemannian cubics can also be extended indefinitely. We find that there are always exceptions in Riemannian manifolds with strictly negative sectional curvature. On the other hand, we show that Riemannian cubics can always be extended in complete locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds of non-negative curvature.  相似文献
