We report direct measurements of the concentration susceptibility in He3He4 mixtures by observing the gravity-induced concentration change δX3 over a height of 2 mm in the mixture. The predicted peak at the superfluid transition is observed for the investigated mixtures, 0.60 ? X3 ? 0.67.  相似文献

Cosmic rays were discovered in 1911 but it is only now that some ideas are beginning to emerge as to their origin. This paper will examine the present evidence concerning the origin question over the whole energy range, from 109 eV to 1020 eV. At the lowest energies, (109–1010 eV), the new subject of gamma ray astronomy plays a crucial role and a galactic origin is favoured. At higher energies (1012–1017 eV) recent measurements of the anisotropies in arrival directions also suggest a galactic origin, although the evidence is not as strong. At the very highest energies it seems likely that some, at least, of the particles come from outside the galaxy although the non-existence of the cut-off at about 6 × 1019 eV arising from interactions with the cosmological relict radiation provides a paradox. Summary A stack of CR-39 (HCB 0.5%) passive solid-state nuclear track detectors were irradiated by primary cosmic rays near the top of the atmosphere. The stack of detectors were flown by balloons launched from Alice Springs, Australia in 1983. After 16 h 41 min flight exposure at an atmospheric pressure of 9.5 mb the plates were collected and chemically etched in 6.7 N NaOH aqueous solution at 70°C for 27 hours. The diameter distribution of the 1208 etch pits caused by the presence of heavy ions in primary cosmic rays was measured by a transmitted light Leitz Ortholux microscope having an objective×10 and a×15 filar micrometer eyepiece attachment. The diameter distribution was standardised and calibrated against the conventional cosmic-ray results found by Tasakaet al. The estimated charge spectrum is in accord with the nuclear emulsion data of Daniel and Durgaprasad, Kristianssonet al., Saito and Chohanet al.  相似文献

Summary We discuss here the results obtained calculating the contribution of prompt muons in the vertical atmospheric muon flux, computed taking into account the up-to-date data from experiments at accelerators and the most recent theoretical achievements on charm generation in nucleon-air nucleus interactions. Our results are compared with the experimental data obtained with underground detectors.
Riassunto Si discutono in questo lavoro i risultati ottenuti sul contributo di muoni pronti al flusso atmosferico verticale dei muoni, calcolato utilizzando i dati piú recenti di esperimenti degli acceleratori ed i risultati teorici sulla produzione di particelle charmate in interazioni nucleoni-nuclei atmosferici. I risultati ottenuti sono confrontati con i dati sperimentali forniti da esperimenti sotterranei.

Резюме Мы обсуждаем результаты вычислений вклада мгновенных мюонов в вертикальный роток атмосферных мюонов. Вычисления учитывают данные из зкспериментов на ускорителях и недавние теоретические предсказания по рождению очарованных частиц при, взаимодействиях нуклонов с ядрами воздуха. Наши результаты сравниваются с зкспериментальными данными, полученными с помощью подземных детекторов.

Summary Energy spectra and zenith-angle distributions of cosmic-ray muons, neutrinos and antineutrinos of prompt generation for energy interval (1÷106) TeV are calculated. For calculations of differential cross-sections of D±, D0, 0 and Λc production inNN and πN interactions the recombination quark-parton model (RQPM) is used. Accounting of nuclear effects is done by using the additive quark model and the optical model of nucleus. Detailed comparison of results obtained in RQPM with corresponding predictions of quark-gluon string model (MQGS) is carried out. Dynamics of semi-leptonic D- and Λc and energy losses of muons in the atmosphere are taken into account. Calculations of hadronic cascades in the atmosphere are done with accounting of growth with energy of total inelastic hadron-nucleus cross-sections, steepening of primary cosmic-ray spectrum and processes of pion regeneration. The comparison of our calculations with experimental data and with calculations of other authors is given.  相似文献

The first clean Centauro was found in cosmic rays years many ago at Mt Chacaltaya experiment. Since that time, many people have tried to find this type of interaction, both in cosmic rays and at accelerators. But no one has found a clean cases of this type of interaction.It happened finally in the last exposure of emulsion at Mt Chacaltaya where the second clean Centauro has been found. The experimental data for both the Centauros and STRANA will be presented and discussed in this paper. We also present our comments to the intriguing question of the existence of a type of nuclear interactions at high energy with alignment.  相似文献

We present a theory of non-solar cosmic rays (CRs) in which the bulk of their observed flux is due to a single type of CR source at all energies. The total luminosity of the Galaxy, the broken power-law spectra with their observed slopes, the position of the ‘knee(s)’ and ‘ankle’, and the CR composition and its variation with energy are all predicted in terms of very simple and completely ‘standard’ physics. The source of CRs is extremely ‘economical’: it has only one parameter to be fitted to the ensemble of all of the mentioned data. All other inputs are ‘priors’, that is, theoretical or observational items of information independent of the properties of the source of CRs, and chosen to lie in their pre-established ranges. The theory is part of a ‘unified view of high-energy astrophysics’ — based on the ‘Cannonball’ model of the relativistic ejecta of accreting black holes and neutron stars. The model has been extremely successful in predicting all the novel properties of Gamma Ray Bursts recently observed with the help of the Swift satellite. If correct, this model is only lacking a satisfactory theoretical understanding of the ‘cannon’ that emits the cannonballs in catastrophic processes of accretion.  相似文献

Detailed calculation of the energy spectra of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays has been performed. The spectral features related to the interaction of protons with cosmic microwave background have been analyzed. The neutron fraction in the very high-energy cosmic rays near the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) cutoff energy is analyzed by taking into account the time dilation effect of the neutron decays and also the pion photoproduction behaviors above the GZK cutoff. We predict a non-trivial neutron fraction above the GZK cutoff and a negligibly small neutron fraction below. However, there should be a large antiproton fraction in the high-energy cosmic rays below the GZK cutoff in several existing models for the observed cosmic-ray events above and near the GZK cutoff. Such a large antiproton fraction can manifest itself by the muon charge ratio μ+- in the collisions of the primary nucleon cosmic rays with the atmosphere, if there is no neutron contribution. We suggest to use the muon charge ratio as one of the information to detect the composition of the primary cosmic rays near or below the GZK cutoff.  相似文献

The energy spectrum of cosmic rays above 2.5 x 10;{18} eV, derived from 20,000 events recorded at the Pierre Auger Observatory, is described. The spectral index gamma of the particle flux, J proportional, variantE;{-gamma}, at energies between 4 x 10;{18} eV and 4 x 10;{19} eV is 2.69+/-0.02(stat)+/-0.06(syst), steepening to 4.2+/-0.4(stat)+/-0.06(syst) at higher energies. The hypothesis of a single power law is rejected with a significance greater than 6 standard deviations. The data are consistent with the prediction by Greisen and by Zatsepin and Kuz'min.  相似文献

Recent work on the energy spectrum, composition and anisotropy of the primary cosmic ray flux from about 109 eV to 1020 eV is summarized, together with related information on phonons between 1 MeV and 200 MeV. Solar particles are not discussed, the emphasis being on topics bearing on the origin of the radiation, which is still an unsolved problem, although the probabilities are strongly in favour of an entirely galactic origin for the particles. There are two processes of matter creation after inflation that may be relevant to the resolution of the puzzle of cosmic rays observed with energies beyond GZK cut-off: 1) gravitational creation of superheavy (quasi)stable particles, and 2) non-thermal phase transitions leading to the formation of topological defects. The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown on the space shuttle Discovery during flight STS-91 in a 51.7° orbit at altitudes between 320 and 390 km. A total of 2.86×106 helium nuclei were observed in the rigidity range 1 to 140 GV. No antihelium nuclei were detected at any rigidity. An upper limit on the flux ratio of antihelium to helium of <1.1×10−6 is obtained.  相似文献

We have studied the stability of mixed 3He/4He clusters in L = 0 and L = 1 states by the diffusion Monte Carlo method, employing the Tang-Toennies-Yiu (TTY) He-He potential. The clusters 3He4HeM ( ) and 3He24HeM (L = 0, S = 0) are stable for M > 1, while to bind two 3He in a triplet state the minimum number of 4He is four. Considering clusters with three 3He, 3He34He4 is the smallest stable system in the L = 1 state, while 3He34He8 is the smallest stable system in the L = 0 state.  相似文献
