Nuclear mass number dependence of inclusive pion production by pions and protons at 4.3GeV/c

The inclusive production of π⁺ for 0.4≤p_T<1.0 GeV/c in pion-nucleus and proton-nucleus collisions at 4.3 GeV/c was measured. A strong A-dependence of the cross sections at high p_T is observed to be persistent in the low energy region. The ratio of the cross sections for proton-nucleus and pion-nucleus collisions is also observed to be compatible with the quark-parton picture, for p_T>0.6 GeV/c.     

Spallation of copper by 9 GeV/c protons and deuterons

The spallation of copper by 9 GeV/c protons and deuterons has been studied. Cross sections for the production of radionuclides with 24 A 60 were determined from direct gamma-ray counting of irradiated targets with a Ge(Li) — spectrometer. The results were parametrized in terms of a 6-parameter formula which reproduces the measured charge-dispersion and mass-yield distributions. Channeling of 1.1 GeV/c protons and pions

Channeling effects have been observed for 1.1 GeV/c protons and pions transmitted through a 1 mm thick germanium single crystal.     

Measurement of Upsilon production for p + p and p + d interactions at 800 GeV/c

We report a high statistics measurement of Upsilon production with an 800 GeV/c proton beam on hydrogen and deuterium targets. The dominance of the gluon-gluon fusion process for Upsilon production at this energy implies that the cross section ratio, sigma(p+d-->Upsilon)/2sigma(p+p-->Upsilon), is sensitive to the gluon content in the neutron relative to that in the proton. Coherent production of particles by 67 GeV/c protons on emulsion nuclei

Coherent reactions were observed among one-, three- and may be five-prong interactions of 37 GeV/c protons in nuclear emulsion. Their cross sections were estimated and compared with other data on coherent production in emulsion.     

High transverse momentum prompt photon production by π− and π+ on protons at 280 GeV/c

The inclusive cross sections for prompt photon production by π^? and π⁺ on protons have been measured with a beam momentum of 280 GeV/c using a fine grained electromagnetic calorimeter and the CERN Omega spectrometer. The transverse momentum and Feynmanx _F ranges covered are 4.0<p _T <7.0GeV/c and ?0.45<x _F <0.55 respectively. A quantitative comparison of the prompt photon cross section with next-to-leading order QCD predictions using Duke and Owens structure functions is performed.
