A molecular dynamics simulation combined with semiempirical quantum mechanics calculations has been performed to investigate the structure, dynamical, and electronic properties of pure C60 in liquid ethanol. The behavior of the fullerene alcoholic solution was obtained by using the NPT ensemble under ambient conditions, including one C60 fullerene immersed in 1000 ethanol molecules. Our analyzed center-of-mass pairwise radial distribution function indicated that, on average, there are 32, 72, 132, and 187 ethanol molecules around, respectively, the first, second, third, and fourth solvation shells of the C60 molecule. To investigate the UV-vis transition energies of C60 in the presence of ethanol, we have considered constituents of the time uncorrelated supramolecular structures of the first solvation shell, i.e., clusters of C60@{EtOH}32 types. The semiempirical calculations were performed at the intermediate neglect of differential overlap level with configuration interaction singles (INDO/CIS). Our results have pointed out that the characteristic C60 UV-vis absorbance peaks are slightly shifted to longer wavelengths, as compared to the isolated molecule. These findings are in connection with the weak donor-acceptor character of the interactions involving electron lone pairs of oxygen atoms on the solvent and the fullerene surface.  相似文献

The AM1 semiempirical calculation method was employed to study the structures and electronic properties of a series of isoxazolo fullerene derivatives. Based on the AM1 geometry optimization, the electronic spectra of molecules were studied by using ZINDO/CIS methods. The results indicated the HOMO LUMO energy gaps of those isoxazolo fullerenes were lower than that of C60. There existed the intramolecular electron transfer from the additional section to C60 moiety. The electronic spectrum data showed that the exception of the absorption was beyond 400 nm.The results were in good accordance with the experiment results. Nonlinear optical susceptibilities α, β and γ of molecules were calculated according to Finite Field(FF)/AM1, and the influence of molecular structures on nonlinear optical properties was examined.  相似文献

The compound Na(4)[(UO(2))(S(2))(3)](CH(3)OH)(8) was synthesized at room temperature in an oxygen-free environment. It contains a rare example of the [(UO(2))(S(2))(3)](4-) complex in which a uranyl ion is coordinated by three bidentate persulfide groups. We examined the possible linkage of these units to form nanoscale cage clusters analogous to those formed from uranyl peroxide polyhedra. Quantum chemical calculations at the density functional and multiconfigurational wave function levels show that the uranyl-persulfide-uranyl, U-(S(2))-U, dihedral angles of model clusters are bent due to partial covalent interactions. We propose that this bent interaction will favor assembly of uranyl ions through persulfide bridges into curved structures, potentially similar to the family of nanoscale cage clusters built from uranyl peroxide polyhedra. However, the U-(S(2))-U dihedral angles predicted for several model structures may be too tight for them to self-assemble into cage clusters with fullerene topologies in the absence of other uranyl-ion bridges that adopt a flatter configuration. Assembly of species such as [(UO(2))(S(2))(SH)(4)](4-) or [(UO(2))(S(2))(C(2)O(4))(4)](4-) into fullerene topologies with ~60 vertices may be favored by use of large counterions.  相似文献

Low-energy excitations and optical absorption spectrum of C(60) are computed by using time-dependent (TD) Hartree-Fock, TD-density functional theory (TD-DFT), TD DFT-based tight-binding (TD-DFT-TB), and a semiempirical Zerner intermediate neglect of diatomic differential overlap method. A detailed comparison of experiment and theory for the excitation energies, optical gap, and absorption spectrum of C(60) is presented. It is found that electron correlations and correlation of excitations play important roles in accurately assigning the spectral features of C(60), and that the TD-DFT method with nonhybrid functionals or a local spin density approximation leads to more accurate excitation energies than with hybrid functionals. The level of agreement between theory and experiment for C(60) justifies similar calculations of the excitations and optical absorption spectrum of a monomeric azafullerene cation C(59)N(+), to serve as a spectroscopy reference for the characterization of carborane anion salts. Although it is an isoelectronic analogue to C(60), C(59)N(+) exhibits distinguishing spectral features different from C(60): (1) the first singlet is dipole-allowed and the optical gap is redshifted by 1.44 eV; (2) several weaker absorption maxima occur in the visible region; (3) the transient triplet-triplet absorption at 1.60 eV (775 nm) is much broader and the decay of the triplet state is much faster. The calculated spectra of C(59)N(+) characterize and explain well the measured ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) and transient absorption spectra of the carborane anion salt [C(59)N][Ag(CB(11)H(6)Cl(6))(2)] [Kim et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc. 125, 4024 (2003)]. For the most stable isomer of C(48)N(12), we predict that the first singlet is dipole-allowed, the optical gap is redshifted by 1.22 eV relative to that of C(60), and optical absorption maxima occur at 585, 528, 443, 363, 340, 314, and 303 nm. We point out that the characterization of the UV-vis and transient absorption spectra of C(48)N(12) isomers is helpful in distinguishing the isomer structures required for applications in molecular electronics. For C(59)N(+) and C(48)N(12) as well as C(60), TD-DFT-TB yields reasonable agreement with TD-DFT calculations at a highly reduced cost. Our study suggests that C(60), C(59)N(+), and C(48)N(12), which differ in their optical gaps, have potential applications in polymer science, biology, and medicine as single-molecule fluorescent probes, in photovoltaics as the n-type emitter and/or p-type base of a p-n junction solar cell, and in nanoelectronics as fluorescence-based sensors and switches.  相似文献

Reaction of C(60) with CF(3)I at 550 degrees C, which is known to produce a single isomer of C(60)(CF(3))(2,4,6) and multiple isomers of C(60)(CF(3))(8,10), has now been found to produce an isomer of C(60)(CF(3))(6) with the C(s)-C(60)X(6) skew-pentagonal-pyramid (SPP) addition pattern and an epoxide with the C(s)-C(60)X(4)O variation of the SPP addition pattern, C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(4)O. The structurally similar epoxide C(s)-C(60)(C(2)F(5))(4)O is one of the products of the reaction of C(60) with C(2)F(5)I at 430 degrees C. The three compounds have been characterized by mass spectrometry, DFT quantum chemical calculations, Raman, visible, and (19)F NMR spectroscopy, and, in the case of the two epoxides, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(6) is the first [60]fullerene derivative with adjacent R(f) groups that are sufficiently sterically hindered to cause the (DFT-predicted) lengthening of the cage (CF(3))C-C(CF(3)) bond to 1.60 A as well as to give rise to a rare, non-fast-exchange-limit (19)F NMR spectrum at 20 degrees C. The compounds C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(4)O and C(s)-C(60)(C(2)F(5))(4)O are the first poly(perfluoroalkyl)fullerene derivatives with a non-fluorine-containing exohedral substituent and the first fullerene epoxides known to be stable at elevated temperatures. All three compounds demonstrate that the SPP addition pattern is at least kinetically stable, if not thermodynamically stable, at temperatures exceeding 400 degrees C. The high-temperature synthesis of the two epoxides also indicates that perfluoroalkyl substituents can enhance the thermal stability of fullerene derivatives with other substituents.  相似文献

A method for the synthesis of the multicomponent ionic complexes: [Cr(I)(C(6)H(6))(2) (.+)][Co(II)(tpp)(fullerene)(-)].C(6)H(4)Cl(2), comprising bis(benzene)chromium (Cr(C(6)H(6))(2)), cobalt(II) tetraphenylporphyrin (Co(II)(tpp)), fullerenes (C(60), C(60)(CN)(2), and C(70)), and o-dichlorobenzene (C(6)H(4)Cl(2)) has been developed. The monoanionic state of the fullerenes has been proved by optical absorption spectra in the UV/vis/NIR and IR ranges. The crystal structures of the ionic [[Cr(I)(C(6)H(6))(2)](.+)](1.7)[[Co(II)(tpp)(C(60))](2)](1.7-). 3.3 C(6)H(4)Cl(2) and [[Cr(I)(C(6)H(6))(2)] (.+)](2)[Co(II)(tpp)[C(60)(CN)(2)]](-)[C(60)(CN)(2) (.-)]).3 C(6)H(4)Cl(2) are presented. The essentially shortened Co.C(fullerene) bond lengths of 2.28-2.32 A in these complexes indicate the formation of sigma-bonded [Co(II)(tpp)][fullerene](-) anions, which are diamagnetic. All the ionic complexes are semiconductors with room temperature conductivity of 2 x 10(-3)-4 x 10(-6) S cm(-1), and their magnetic susceptibilities show Curie-Weiss behavior. The neutral complexes of Co(II)(tpp) with C(60), C(60)(CN)(2), C(70), and Cr(0)(C(6)H(6))(2), as well as the crystal structures of [Co(II)(tpp)](C(60)).2.5 C(6)H(4)Cl(2), [Co(II)(tpp)](C(70)). 1.3 CHCl(3).0.2 C(6)H(6), and [Cr(0)(C(6)H(6))(2)][Co(II)(tpp)] are discussed. In contrast to the ionic complexes, the neutral ones have essentially longer Co.C(fullerene) bond lengths of 2.69-2.75 A.  相似文献

Clusters of C60-aniline dyads are deposited as thin films on nanostructured SnO2 electrodes under the influence of an electric field. At low applied DC voltage (<5 V) the clusters in toluene/acetonitrile (1:3) mixed solvent grow in size (from 160 nm to approximately 200 nm in diameter) while at higher voltages (>50 V) they are deposited on the electrode surface as thin films. The C60- aniline dyad cluster films when cast on nanostructured SnO2 films are photoelectrochemically active and generate photocurrent under visible light excitation. These nanostructured fullerene films are capable of delivering relatively large photocurrents (up to approximately 0.2 mA cm(-2), photoconversion efficiency of 3-4%) when employed as photoanodes in photoelectrochemical cells. Both luminescence and transient absorption studies confirm the formation of charge transfer product (C60 anion) following UV/Vis excitation of these films. Photo-induced charge separation in these dyad clusters is followed by the electron injection from C60-anion moiety into the SnO2 nanocrystallites. The oxidized counterpart is reduced by the redox couple present in the electrolyte, thus regenerating the dyad clusters. The feasibility of casting high surface area thin fullerene films on electrode surfaces has opened up new avenues to utilize dyad molecules of sensitizer bridge donor type in light energy conversion devices, such as solar cells.

The salt (DMI(+))(2)·(C(60)(?-))·{Cd(Et(2)NCS(2))(2)I(-)} (1) containing fullerene radical anions, the anions of cadmium diethyldithiocarbamate iodide, and N,N'-dimethylimidazolium cations was obtained. Fullerenes are monomeric in 1 at 250 K and form three-dimensional packing in which each fullerene has nearly tetrahedral surroundings from neighboring fullerenes. Fullerenes with a shorter interfullerene center-to-center distance of 10.031(2) ? form spiral chains arranged along the lattice c axis. The convolution consists of four fullerene molecules. Dimerization realized in 1 within the spiral chains below 135 K manifests a strong dependence on the cooling rate. The "frozen" monomeric phase was obtained upon instant quenching of 1. This phase is stable below 95 K for a long time but slowly converted to the dimeric phase at T > 95 K. It exhibits a weak antiferromagnetic interaction of spins below 95 K (the Weiss temperature is -4 K), which results in the splitting of the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal into two components below 10 K. A disordered phase containing both C(60)(?-) monomers and singly bonded (C(60)(-))(2) dimers with approximately 0.5/0.5 occupancies is formed at an intermediate cooling rate (for 20 min). The position of each fullerene in this phase is split into three positions slightly shifted relative to each other. The central position corresponds to nonbonded fullerenes with interfullerene center-to-center distances of 9.94-10.00 ?. Two other positions are coincided to dimeric fullerenes formed with the right and left fullerene neighbors within the spiral chain. This intermediate phase is paramagnetic with nearly zero Weiss temperature due to isolation of C(60)(?-) by diamagnetic species and exhibits a strongly asymmetric EPR signal below 20 K. A diamagnetic phase containing ordered singly bonded (C(60)(-))(2) dimers can be obtained only upon slow cooling of the crystal for 6 h.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of a novel 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexasubstituted fullerene derivative (1) are examined in this study. In addition to the ground state absorption spectrum of 1, we report its triplet-triplet absorption spectrum and molar extinction coefficient (Deltae(T-T)), as well as the triplet quantum yield (PhiT), lifetime (tauT), and energy (ET). The saturation of a single six-member ring on the fullerene cage results in significant changes in the triplet state properties as compared to that of pristine C60. The triplet-triplet absorption spectrum shows a hypsochromic shift in long wavelength absorption, and both the triplet state lifetime and the triplet quantum yield are decreased. The triplet energy was found to be similar to that of C60. In addition, the quantum yield (PHI(delta)) of singlet oxygen generated by 1 was calculated and is found to be significantly less than in the case of C60.  相似文献

The nanoscale parameters of metal clusters and lattices have a crucial influence on the macroscopic properties of materials. Herein, we provide a detailed study on the size and shape of isolated yttrium carbide clusters in different fullerene cages. A family of diyttrium endohedral metallofullerenes with the general formula of Y(2)C(2n) (n = 40-59) are reported. The high field (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and density functional theory (DFT) methods are employed to examine this yttrium carbide cluster in certain family members, Y(2)C(2)@D(5)(450)-C(100), Y(2)C(2)@D(3)(85)-C(92), Y(2)C(2)@C(84), Y(2)C(2)@C(3v)(8)-C(82), and Y(2)C(2)@C(s)(6)-C(82). The results of this study suggest that decreasing the size of a fullerene cage with the same (Y(2)C(2))(4+) cluster results in nanoscale fullerene compression (NFC) from a nearly linear stretched geometry to a constrained "butterfly" structure. The (13)C NMR chemical shift and scalar (1)J(YC) coupling parameters provide a very sensitive measure of this NFC effect for the (Y(2)C(2))(4+) cluster. The crystal structural parameters of a previously reported metal carbide, Y(2)C(3) are directly compared to the (Y(2)C(2))(4+) cluster in the current metallofullerene study.  相似文献

A detailed survey of the low energy isomer spectrum of (SiO(2))(N), N= 6-10, 13, 16 has been performed using interatomic potential based global optimisations refined via high-level density functional calculations. Within these spectra, including many isomers reported for the first time, structurally and energetically viable pathways for the initial stages of silica cluster growth through SiO(2) nucleation are identified. The role of the exceptionally stable (SiO(2))(8) ground state "magic" cluster is highlighted in the possible formation of highly symmetric fully tetrahedral clusters of size (SiO(2))(10) and (SiO(2))(16). These clusters are found to form a part of a natural (SiO(2))(N)N= 7, 10, 13, 16 sequence together with the C(3v) ground states for (SiO(2))(7) and (SiO(2))(13). The fully tetrahedral clusters are argued to be likely relatively long-lived metastable species in the process of gas phase SiO(2) nucleation due to the manner of their termination. It is speculated that larger tetrahedral (SiO(2))(40) clusters may exhibit porous structures.  相似文献

Methylation of [76]fullerene by reaction with Al-Ni alloy/NaOH followed by quenching of the intermediate anions with methyl iodide gives a mixture of methylated and methylenated products together with oxide derivatives. The major derivatives are five isomers of C(76)Me(2)(one of C(s) symmetry due to 1,6-C(76)Me(2)) and C(76)(CH(2))(n)(n= 2-4), together with corresponding mono-oxides. The single line (1)H NMR spectrum of mono-oxide C(76)Me(2)O shows it is an oxahomofullerene (ether) the first example derived from [76]fullerene, oxygen being inserted between the CMe groups in 1,6-C(76)Me(2)giving a product of C(2) symmetry. The probable structures of the unsymmetrical dimethyl derivatives have been deduced from heats of formation calculated by AM1 and density functional methods. Bis-oxide C(76)Me(4)O(2) is the first bis oxahomo[76]fullerene to be isolated and gives two equal-intensity lines in the (1)H NMR spectrum showing that it must also have C(2) symmetry; probable structures are considered. Methylation of [84]fullerene takes place less readily and only four C(84)Me(2) derivatives were isolated, two of them in quantities sufficient to show the symmetries as C(1), and either C(2) or C(s).  相似文献

Clusters of tetracene molecules with different numbers of attached (Ar)(N), (Ne)(N) and (H(2))(N) particles (N = 1-2000) are assembled inside superfluid He nanodroplets and studied via laser-induced fluorescence. The frequency shift of the fluorescence spectrum of the tetracene molecules is studied as a function of cluster size and pickup order of tetracene and cluster species. For (Ar)(N) and (Ne)(N) clusters, our results indicate that the tetracene molecules reside inside the clusters when tetracene is captured by the He nanodroplet before the cluster species; conversely, the tetracene molecules stay on the surface of the clusters when tetracene is captured after the cluster species. In the case of (H(2))(N) clusters, however, tetracene molecules reside inside the (H(2))(N) clusters irrespective of the pickup order. We conclude that (Ar)(N) and (Ne)(N) clusters are rigid at T = 0.38 K, while (H(2))(N) clusters of up to N = 2000 remain fluxional at the same temperature. The results may also indicate the occurrence of heterogeneous nucleation of the (H(2))(N) clusters, which is induced by the interaction with tetracene chromophore molecules.  相似文献

Putative global energy minima of clusters formed by the adsorption of rare gases on a C(60) fullerene molecule, C(60)X(N) (X=Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe; N ≤ 70), are found using basin-hopping global optimization in an empirical potential energy surface. The association energies per rare gas atom as a function of N present two noticeable minima for Ne and Ar and just one for Kr and Xe. The minimum with the smallest N is the deepest one and corresponds to an optimal packing monolayer structure; the other one gives a monolayer with maximum packing. For Kr and Xe, optimal and maximum packing structures coincide. By using an isotropic average form of the X-C(60) interaction, we have established the relevance of the C(60) surface corrugation on the cluster structures. Quantum effects are relevant for Ne clusters. The adsorption of these rare gases on C(60) follows patterns that differ significantly from the ones found recently for He by means of experimental and theoretical methods.  相似文献

Elusive perchloropyracylene has been obtained during conventional fullerene synthesis in a chlorine-containing atmosphere by using the radio-frequency furnace technique. In contrast to its hydrocarbon analogue, the title compound was found to be unexpectedly stable. Although the high stability of perchloropyracylene impedes its direct addition to C(60) fullerene, the corresponding adduct was found in the synthesis products extracted from the raw soot. Both new species were separated and unambiguously characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. According to experimental observations and quantum chemical calculations, the addition of perchloropyracylene to the C(60) fullerene can only be realized by involving highly reactive species such as C(14) clusters displaying the pyracylene connectivity. Such a viable mechanism includes capturing of free or partially chlorinated C(14) clusters with pyracylene-type connectivity by the fullerene molecule and subsequent stabilization through chlorine addition. The data obtained provide experimental evidence for the presence of pyracylene-like C(14) clusters in the gas phase, which have evolved during the graphite vaporization process. According to the pentagon road mechanism, such clusters are regarded as crucial intermediates in fullerene formation.  相似文献

Photoinduced electron transfer in a self-assembled single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT)-fullerene(C60) hybrid with SWNT acting as an electron donor and fullerene as an electron acceptor has been successfully demonstrated. Toward this, first, SWNTs were noncovalently functionalized using alkyl ammonium functionalized pyrene (Pyr-NH3+) to form SWNT/Pyr-NH3+ hybrids. The alkyl ammonium entity of SWNT/Pyr-NH3+ hybrids was further utilized to complex with benzo-18-crown-6 functionalized fullerene, crown-C60, via ammonium-crown ether interactions to yield SWNT/Pyr-NH3+/crown-C60 nanohybrids. The nanohybrids were isolated and characterized by TEM, UV-visible-near IR, and electrochemical methods. Free-energy calculations suggested possibility of electron transfer from the carbon nanotube to the singlet excited fullerene in the SWNT/Pyr-NH3+/crown-C60 nanohybrids. Accordingly, steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence studies revealed efficient quenching of the singlet excited-state of C60 in the nanohybrids. Further studies involving nanosecond transient absorption studies confirmed electron transfer to be the quenching mechanism, in which the electron-transfer product, fullerene anion radical, was possible to spectrally characterize. The rates of charge separation, kCS, and charge recombination, kCR, were found to be 3.46 x 10(9) and 1.04 x 10(7) s-1, respectively. The calculated lifetime of the radical ion-pair was found to be over 100 ns, suggesting charge stabilization in the novel supramolecular nanohybrids. The present nanohybrids were further utilized to reduce hexyl-viologen dication (HV2+) and a sacrificial electron donor, 1-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide, in an electron-pooling experiment, offering additional proof for the occurrence of photoinduced charge-separation and potential utilization of these materials in light-energy harvesting applications.  相似文献

In the presence of scandium triflate, an efficient photoinduced electron transfer from the triplet excited state of C(60) to p-chloranil occurs to produce C(60) radical cation which has a diagnostic NIR (near-infrared) absorption band at 980 nm, whereas no photoinduced electron transfer occurs from the triplet excited state of C(60) (3C(60)) to p-chloranil in the absence of scandium ion in benzonitrile. The electron-transfer rate obeys pseudo-first-order kinetics and the pseudo-first-order rate constant increases linearly with increasing p-chloranil concentration. The observed second-order rate constant of electron transfer (k(et)) increases linearly with increasing scandium ion concentration. In contrast to the case of the C(60)/p-chloranil/Sc(3+) system, the k(et) value for electron transfer from 3C(60) to p-benzoquinone increases with an increase in Sc(3+) concentration ([Sc(3+)]) to exhibit a first-order dependence on [Sc(3+)], changing to a second-order dependence at the high concentrations. Such a mixture of first-order and second-order dependence on [Sc(3+)] is also observed for a Sc(3+)-promoted electron transfer from CoTPP (TPP(2-) = tetraphenylporphyrin dianion) to p-benzoquinone. This is ascribed to formation of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes between the generated semiquinone radical anion and Sc(3+) at the low and high concentrations of Sc(3+), respectively. The transient absorption spectra of the radical cations of various fullerene derivatives were detected by laser flash photolysis of the fullerene/p-chloranil/Sc(3+) systems. The ESR spectra of the fullerene radical cations were also detected in frozen PhCN at 193 K under photoirradiation of the fullerene/p-chloranil/Sc(3+) systems. The Sc(3+)-promoted electron-transfer rate constants were determined for photoinduced electron transfer from the triplet excited states of C(60), C(70), and their derivatives to p-chloranil and the values are compared with the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) levels of the fullerenes and their derivatives.  相似文献

In order to obtain crystals of fullerene oxides that are suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction, the reactions between C(60)O and Vaska type iridium complexes have been examined. While reaction with Ir(CO)Cl(P(C(6)H(5))(3))(2)(and with triphenylphosphine but not triphenylarsine) results in partial deoxygenation of the fullerene epoxide, reaction with Ir(CO)Cl(As(C(6)H(5))(3))(2)()()produces crystalline (eta(2)-C(60)O)Ir(CO)Cl(AsPh(3))(2).4.82C(6)H(6).0.18CHCl(3). Black triangular prisms of (eta(2)-C(60)O)Ir(CO)Cl(AsPh(3))(2).4.82C(6)H(6).0.18CHCl(3)form in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with a = 14.662(2) ?, b = 19.836(2) ?, c = 28.462(5) ?, and beta = 100.318(12) degrees at 123 (2) K with Z = 4. Refinement (on F(2)) of 10 472 reflections and 1095 parameters with 10 restraints yielded wR2 = 0.152 and a conventional R = 0.066 (for 7218 reflections with I > 2.0sigma(I)). The structure shows that the iridium complex is bound to a 6:6 ring junction of the fullerene with four partially occupied sites for the epoxide oxygen atom. Thus, while deoxygenation of the fullerene does not occur upon reaction with Ir(CO)Cl(AsPh(3))(2), there is a greater degree of disorder in (eta(2)-C(60)O)Ir(CO)Cl(AsPh(3))(2)than previously reported for (eta(2)-C(60)O)Ir(CO)Cl(PPh(3))(2).  相似文献
