Muon capture rate in muonic deuterium can be calculated with less ambiguities in nuclear wave functions, since we know the bound and scattering states of the two nucleons with higher accuracy theoretically. It is, however, dependent on the pion-nucleon-delta coupling constant through the exchange current effect. This dependence is considerably reduced for the ratio of the capture rates from two hyperfine states of muonic deuterium. This ratio is, therefore, useful to study the strength of the induced pseudoscalar term. Several other physical quantities in light nuclei are also introduced here for the same purpose.  相似文献

The rate of nuclear muon capture by the proton has been measured using a new technique based on a time projection chamber operating in ultraclean, deuterium-depleted hydrogen gas, which is key to avoiding uncertainties from muonic molecule formation. The capture rate from the hyperfine singlet ground state of the microp atom was obtained from the difference between the micro(-) disappearance rate in hydrogen and the world average for the micro(+) decay rate, yielding Lambda(S)=725.0+/-17.4 s(-1), from which the induced pseudoscalar coupling of the nucleon, g(P)(q(2)=-0.88m(2)(micro))=7.3+/-1.1, is extracted.  相似文献

In this article we report the results of an experiment performed in 1993 at PSI. The goal was to determine the absolute rate of nuclear muon capture by3He. In the experiment we used a new technique recently developed at Gatchina. As a preliminary result from this experiment we obtained c=(1496±3(stat)-3(syst)) s–1.  相似文献

We report the first measurement of the temperature dependence of muon transfer rate from muonic hydrogen atoms to oxygen between 100 and 300 K. Data were obtained from the X-ray spectra of delayed events in a gaseous target, made of a H2/O2 mixture, exposed to a muon beam. This work sets constraints on theoretical models of muon transfer and is of fundamental importance for the measurement of the hyperfine splitting of muonic hydrogen ground state as proposed by the FAMU collaboration.  相似文献

We made extensive investigations on the weak charged nucleon currents and structure of complex nuclei in weak nuclear processes. Using our new formalism, which has almost no approximation as far as the lepton part is concerned, we have studied the beta-ray spectra and beta-ray angular distributions in the12B and12N beta decays. The weak magnetism predicted by CVC is in excellent agreement with the experimental data on beta-ray spectra given by the Columbia and Heidelberg groups. It is noticed here that the difference + of the coefficients in the beta-ray angular distributions in aligned12B and12N is free from ambiguity of the nuclear model. We found practically no second-class induced tensor current with the data given by the Osaka, Louvain and Zürich groups. On the other hand, the sum + + of the coefficients represents the time component of the main axial vector current, and it is free from weak form factors. With this sum we studied the exchange-current and core-polarization effects. These two effects are large, and they are almost cancelled out by each other in this case. We also found the strength of the induced pseudoscalar form factor which is generally consistent with PCAC, from nuclear polarizations of12B in muon capture of12C performed by the Zürich and Tokyo groups. These nuclear polarizations are insensitive to the nuclear model, if the exchange-current and corepolarization effects are properly taken into account. This paper was partially delivered at the Annual Meeting of the Korean Physical Society, Seoul, 1983; the Asia Pacific Physics Conference, Singapore, 1983; and the International Symposium on Nuclear Spectroscopy and Nuclear Interactions, Osaka, 1984.The present paper is based on our recent theoretical investigations, which have been performed by the theory group, Department of Physics, Osaka Unicersity. We describe the first measurement of the spin dependence of the reaction: µ+3He3H+µ. This spin dependence is quite sensitive to the induced pseudoscalar form factor,F P, a piece of the weak charged nuclear current of3He about which, experimentally, relatively little is known. The data are presently being analyzed and we plan to quote a number forF P shortly.  相似文献

The corrections that the structure of the proton and its polarizability induce in the Lamb shift in the muonic and the conventional hydrogen atom are calculated on the basis of up-to-date experimental data on the structure functions in deep-inelastic scattering. Numerically, the contribution from proton polarizability to the 2P-2S shift in the muonic hydrogen atom is 4.4 GHz.  相似文献

The lifetime technique has been used to measure the muon capture rate in ultra pure liquid deuterium in conditions where the μd spin state is known. The experimental method avoids the earlier difficulties due to the fusion neutrons. The following result has been obtained for the capture rate in the μd doublet total spin state: λcD = 470 ± 29 s−1.  相似文献

Possible effects of breaking CP-symmetry are looked for in the muon capture by a linearly polarized target nucleus. With this aim the recoil polarization in the partial transitions \(0\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}I,1/2\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}J\) and \(1\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}I\) is investigated in a nuclear model independent way. It is shown that the hyperfine structure of the muonic atom significantly influences theT-odd correlations in the recoil polarization formula, and the expectation for theT- odd signal in case of the linearly polarized target is higher by one order of magnitude. We obtain the complete set of theT-odd observables which could enter the polarization formula. As an example, within the impulse approximation for the weak interaction hamiltonian, we analyse the nonstandard, CP-breaking extension of the Fermi theory using complex Fujii-Primakoff form factorG V eiφ .  相似文献

Muon capture is discussed in the framework of linear response theory. This approach allows a general discussion of the role played by kinematical constraints in determining which features of nuclear dynamics are actually probed in the capture event. It is argued that the muon momentum spread can increase the capture rate at large energy transfer.  相似文献

Muonic atom formation in molecular hydrogen proceeds in two stages. In the first stage, the mu-molecular complex (abµe)* is formed due to Coulomb capture of a muon by a hydrogen molecule (abee), and, in the second stage, the decay of the complex leads to exotic-atom formation. We consider various channels for the decay of the complex. The main competition channels are direct dissociation and Auger decay. The primary distribution of muonic atoms over quantum states and kinetic energy has been obtained taking into account the competition of the decay channels.  相似文献

The lifetime technique has been used for the first time to measure the muon capture rate in ultra-pure liquid deuterium. The result: c D=470±29 s–1, is to be interpreted as the capture rate in thed Doublet spin state.Presented at the symposium Mesons and Light Nuclei, Bechyn, Czechoslovakia, May 27–June 1, 1985.  相似文献

Results of theoretical and experimental research on capture of negative muons in hydrogen are reported with an emphasis on the accompanying phenomenon of muon catalysis in hydrogen and subtleties of the experimental method. A conclusion is drawn that precise determination of the capture rate is important for refining the standard model.  相似文献

Preliminary results of measurements of proton energy spectra and search for coincidentp, n pair emission following negative muon capture in12C,16O,27Al are given. A very clear signal for proton emission is found, which can be exploited in future detailed studies.Presented at the symposium Mesons and Light Nuclei, Bechyn, Czechoslovakia, May 27–June 1, 1985.This work was supported in part by the U.S. National Science Foundation, grant 83-10044-A 2, the German Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie, the International Buero Julich, and the Swiss National Science Foundation.  相似文献

In order to isolate the contribution of the nucleon strange electric form factor to the parity-violating asymmetry measured in 4He(e-->],e')4He experiments, it is crucial to have a reliable estimate of the magnitude of isospin-symmetry-breaking (ISB) corrections in both the nucleon and 4He. We examine this issue in the present Letter. Isospin admixtures in the nucleon are determined in chiral perturbation theory, while those in 4He are derived from nuclear interactions, including explicit ISB terms. A careful analysis of the model dependence in the resulting predictions for the nucleon and nuclear ISB contributions to the asymmetry is carried out. We conclude that, at the low momentum transfers of interest in recent measurements reported by the HAPPEX Collaboration at Jefferson Lab, these contributions are of comparable magnitude to those associated with strangeness components in the nucleon electric form factor.  相似文献

The competition of the processes responsible for muonic hydrogen deexcitation and charge exchange is considered for various isotopic mixtures. The energy dependence as well as then-dependence of the process rates are analyzed in the framework of the WKB method. Electron screening is taken into account.  相似文献

For pseudoscalar meson electroproduction off the nucleon in parallel kinematics a relation between three polarization observables is derived. It is shown that, without Rosenbluth separation, a measurement of the longitudinal strength can be achieved through three different ways. They are discussed with preliminary MAMI data for the reaction in the energy range of the resonance. Received: 30 March 2000 / Accepted: 8 May 2000  相似文献

A new series of precision measurements of the muon momentum pμ+ in the decay πμ+vμ at rest have been made using a magnetic spectrometer. The result is pμ+=(29.79139 ± 0.00083) MeV/c. The consequences of this value for the rest masses of the muon neutrino and of the charged pion are discussed.  相似文献

The wavelength of the 2p3/2-ls1/2 transition in muonic 12C was measured with a crystal spectrometer as 16.473765 (88) pm. With an improved model-independent analysis we deduce an rms charge radius for 12C of 2.4829 (19) fm. A 2.4 standard deviation difference between our rms charge radius and that deduced from recent elastic electron-scattering experiments is tentatively attributed to a short-range additional interaction between muon and nucleons. A comparison is made with other experiments yielding information on such interactions.  相似文献
