We prove that an order unit can be adjoined to every L -matricially Riesz normed space. We introduce a notion of strong subspaces. The matrix order unit space obtained by adjoining an order unit to an L -matrically Riesz normed space is unique in the sense that the former is a strong L -matricially Riesz normed ideal of the later with codimension one. As an application of this result we extend Arveson’s extension theorem to L -matircially Riesz normed spaces. As another application of the above adjoining we generalize Wittstock’s decomposition of completely bounded maps into completely positive maps on C *-algebras to L -matricially Riesz normed spaces. We obtain sharper results in the case of approximate matrix order unit spaces. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). Primary 46L07  相似文献

This is a companion to recent papers of the authors; here we construct the ‘noncommutative Shilov boundary’ of a (possibly nonunital) selfadjoint ordered space of Hilbert space operators. The morphisms in the universal property of the boundary preserve order. As an application, we consider ‘maximal’ and ‘minimal’ unitizations of such ordered operator spaces.  相似文献

We prove that a quotient of a subspace of CppRp (1≤p<2) embeds completely isomorphically into a noncommutative Lp -space, where Cp and Rp are respectively the p-column and p-row Hilbertian operator spaces. We also represent Cq and Rq (p<q≤2) as quotients of subspaces of CppRp. Consequently, Cq and Rq embed completely isomorphically into a noncommutative Lp (M). We further show that the underlying von Neumann algebra M cannot be semifinite.  相似文献

We describe a general method to construct completely bounded idempotent mappings on operator spaces, starting from amenable semigroups of completely bounded mappings. We then explore several applications of that method to injective operator spaces, fixed points of completely contractive mappings, Toeplitz operators, dynamical systems and similarity orbits of group representations.  相似文献

Factorizations of Wiener-Hopf type of elements of weighted Wiener algebras of continuous matrix-valued functions on a compact abelian group are studied. The factorizations are with respect to a fixed linear order in the character group (considered with the discrete topology). Among other results, it is proved that if a matrix function has a canonical factorization in one such matrix Wiener algebra then it belongs to the connected component of the identity of the group of invertible elements in the algebra, and moreover, the factors of the canonical factorization depend continuously on the matrix function. In the scalar case, complete characterizations of canonical and noncanonical factorability are given in terms of abstract winding numbers. Wiener-Hopf equivalence of matrix functions with elements in weighted Wiener algebras is also discussed. We develop a theory of ordered *-algebras with an order unit. These are complex algebras equipped with a conjugate-linear vector space involution whose hermitian elements form an ordered real algebra with an order unit but not necessarily with a multiplicative identity. Our main result is a representation theorem for ordered *-algebras with an order unit. This can be viewed as the complex and the non-unital version of the representation theorem of Stone and Kadison for ordered real algebras containing an order unit which is a multiplicative identity. A key role in our approach is played by certain weighted function algebras.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain a Fredholm index formula for Toeplitz operators whose symbols are certain piecewise continuous function matrices on the unit ball. Moreover, using this formula, we discuss the automorphisms on the corresponding Toeplitz algebra  相似文献

If E and F are real Banach lattices and there is an algebra and order isomorphism Φ:(E)(F) between their respective ordered Banach algebras of regular operators then there is a linear order isomorphism U:EF such that Φ(T) =UTU−1 for all T(E).  相似文献

For a nonempty closed set C in a real normed vector space X and an inequality solution set, we present several sufficient conditions for the tangent and contingent cones to their intersection to contain the intersections of the corresponding cones. We not only express the contingent cone to a solution set of inequalities and equalities by the directional (or Fréchet) derivatives of the active inequality constraint functions and the Fréchet derivatives of the equality constraint functions but also the tangent cone by the Clarke (or lower Dini, or upper Dini) derivatives of the active inequality constraint functions and the directional derivatives of the equality constraint functions. By using a simple property of the function dCdCc, we characterize these cones by the hypertangent and hypercontingent vectors to the set C. Furthermore, these results allow us to present new constraint qualifications for the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions.  相似文献

Let X be an operator space, let φ be a product on X, and let (X,φ) denote the algebra that one obtains. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the bilinear mapping φ for the algebra (X,φ) to have a completely isometric representation as an algebra of operators on some Hilbert space. In particular, we give an elegant geometrical characterization of such products by using the Haagerup tensor product. Our result makes no assumptions about identities or approximate identities. Our proof is independent of the earlier result of Blecher, Ruan and Sinclair [D.P. Blecher, Z.-J. Ruan, A.M. Sinclair, A characterization of operator algebras, J. Funct. Anal. 89 (1) (1990) 188-201] which solved the case when the bilinear mapping has an identity of norm one, and our result is used to give a simple direct proof of this earlier result. We also develop further the connections between quasi-multipliers of operator spaces and their representations on a Hilbert space or their embeddings in the second dual, and show that the quasi-multipliers of operator spaces defined in [M. Kaneda, V.I. Paulsen, Quasi-multipliers of operator spaces, J. Funct. Anal. 217 (2) (2004) 347-365] coincide with their C-algebraic counterparts.  相似文献

Let A be a Banach algebra, and consider A** equipped with the first Arens product. We establish a general criterion which ensures that A is left strongly Arens irregular, i.e., the first topological centre of A** is reduced to A itself. Using this criterion, we prove that for a very large class of locally compact groups, Ghahramani-Lau's conjecture (cf. [Lau 94] and [Gha-Lau 95]) stating the left strong Arens irregularity of the measure algebra M(G), holds true. (Our methods obviously yield as well the right strong Arens irregularity in the situation considered.)Furthermore, the same condition used above implies that every linear left A**-module homomorphism on A* is automatically bounded and w*-continuous. We finally show that our criterion also yields a partial answer to a question raised by Lau-Ülger (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 348 (3) (1996) 1191) on the topological centre of the algebra (A*A)*, for A having a right approximate identity bounded by 1.  相似文献

We study some structural aspects of the subspaces of the non-commutative (Haagerup) Lp-spaces associated with a general (non-necessarily semi-finite) von Neumann algebra . If a subspace X of contains uniformly the spaces ?pn, n?1, it contains an almost isometric, almost 1-complemented copy of ?p. If X contains uniformly the finite dimensional Schatten classes Spn, it contains their ?p-direct sum too. We obtain a version of the classical Kadec-Pe?czyński dichotomy theorem for Lp-spaces, p?2. We also give operator space versions of these results. The proofs are based on previous structural results on the ultrapowers of , together with a careful analysis of the elements of an ultrapower which are disjoint from the subspace . These techniques permit to recover a recent result of N. Randrianantoanina concerning a subsequence splitting lemma for the general non-commutative Lp spaces. Various notions of p-equiintegrability are studied (one of which is equivalent to Randrianantoanina's one) and some results obtained by Haagerup, Rosenthal and Sukochev for Lp-spaces based on finite von Neumann algebras concerning subspaces of containing ?p are extended to the general case.  相似文献

We introduce a new asymptotic one-sided and symmetric tensor norm, the latter of which can be considered as the minimal tensor norm on the category of separable C*-algebras with homotopy classes of asymptotic homomorphisms as morphisms. We show that the one-sided asymptotic tensor norm differs in general from both the minimal and the maximal tensor norms and discuss its relation to semi-invertibility of C*-extensions. We prove that it is possible for two uniform algebras to have the same scalar interpolating sets, yet still have different matrix-valued interpolating sets.We prove a result for tensor products of uniform algebras that extends Agler's interpolation formula for the bidisk to more general product domains. This is accomplished by introducing a dual object for interpolation problems, which we call a Schur ideal, and proving that the Schur ideal for a tensor product is the intersection of the corresponding Schur ideals.Research supported in part by a grant from the NSF  相似文献

We answer, by counterexample, several questions concerning algebras of operators on a Hilbert space. The answers add further weight to the thesis that, for many purposes, such algebras ought to be studied in the framework of operator spaces, as opposed to that of Banach spaces and Banach algebras. In particular, the ‘nonselfadjoint analogue’ of a w*-algebra resides naturally in the category of dual operator spaces, as opposed to dual Banach spaces. We also show that an automatic w*-continuity result in the preceding paper of the authors, is sharp.  相似文献

Given an orthonormal basis {e n } n=1 in a Hilbert spaceH, and a dense linear manifoldDH, we show that there exists a unitary operatorV onH such thatI-V is a trace-class operator with arbitrarily small trace norm, andVe jD for allj. This result can be used to simplify certain arguments of J. Xia concerning the simultaneous diagonalization of operators on a space of square integrable functions.  相似文献

Freely stable laws and their domains of attraction are characterized using the theory of functions of regular variation. The results show a complete analogy with classical probability. In fact they can be used to provide an alternative proof of the corresponding classical arguments. The first author was supported in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The so-called generalized Bochner theorem, stated by Cotlar and Sadosky, provides an integral representation of the positive definite generalized Toeplitz kernels. In this paper we derive noncommutative analogues of lifting theorems and the generalized Bochner theorem for completely positive definite generalized Toeplitz kernels, also considered by Cotlar and Sadosky, through the theory of unitary extensions of isometric operators. Moreover, in the case where the kernel is defined in×, we can associate to each unitary extension an interpolation colligation providing thus a wide class of liftings. Also a Levy-Khinchine type formula for this kind of kernels is obtained. This paper is supported by grants from the University of the Basque Country.  相似文献

For a Lau algebra A, we study the Banach space WAP(A) of all weakly almost periodic functionals on A to obtain some equivalent conditions for the existence of topological left invariant means on a topological left introverted subspace X of A contained in WAP(A). Finally, we consider relations between the existence of a topological left invariant mean on X and a common fixed point property.  相似文献
