A general case of proportional loading with a complex stress state of the material in the pre-fracture zone, which is typical for polycrystalline solids with plastic deformation, is considered. A sufficient criterion of fracture is proposed for the case of a complex stress state with non-proportional deformation of the material in the pre-fracture zone. Critical parameters of fracture (pre-fracture zone length and load) for cracks propagating in quasi-brittle materials are obtained with the use of a modified Leonov-Panasyuk-Dugdale model. The pre-fracture zone width is determined by solving the problem of the plasticity theory in the vicinity of the crack tip. The proposed modification of the Leonov-Panasyuk-Dugdale model makes it possible to estimate the critical opening of the crack and the critical displacement of the crack flanks. Inequalities that describe different mechanisms of material fracture under proportional loading (predominantly shear fracture mechanism and fracture mechanism through cleavage) are derived.  相似文献

The mechanical behavior of dual phase steel plates is affected by internal stresses created during martensite transformation. Analytical modelling of this effect is made by considering a unit cell made of martensite inclusion in a ferrite matrix. A large strain finite element analysis is then performed to obtain the plane stress deformation state. Displayed numerically are the development of the plastic zone and distribution of local state of stress and strain. Studied also are the shape configuration of the martensite (hard-phase) that influences the interfacial condition as related to stress transmission and damage. Internal stresses are found to enhance the global flow stress after yield initiation in the ferrite matrix. Good agreement is obtained between the analytical results and experimental observations.  相似文献

We consider one possible approach to the problem of describing the dependence of material plastic strain characteristics on the stress hydrostatic component arising in many porous, fractured, and other inhomogeneous materials. The plastic strain of the media under study is investigated under the plasticity assumption in the corresponding generalized form with the use of the form parameter of the stress state. The plasticity constitutive relations are stated on the basis of the plastic flow law associated with the accepted plasticity condition. For the conditions of plane stress state in the framework of the material rigid-plastic model, a system of partial differential equations is obtained and conditions for its hyperbolicity are determined. The relations for determining the stress fields and velocity fields in plastic domains are obtained, and their properties are investigated. The problem of tension of a strip with symmetric angular notches is solved, where the stress fields are determined and the continuous displacement rate field is constructed. The problem of uniform symmetric tension of a plane with a circular hole is considered. The stress fields in a strip with symmetric circular notches are examined. A comparison with solutions for plastically incompressible media whose properties are invariant with respect to the form of the stress state is performed.  相似文献

Based on stress field equations and Hill yield criterion, the crack tip plastic zone is determined for orthotropic materials and isotropic materials under small-scale yielding condition. An analytical solution to calculating the crack tip plastic zone in plane stress states is presented. The shape and size of the plastic zone are analyzed under different loading conditions. The obtained results show that the crack tip plastic zones present “butterfly-like” shapes, and the elastic–plastic boundary is smooth. The size of the plastic zone for orthotropic composites is less at the crack tip for various loading conditions, compared with the case of isotropic materials. Crack inclination angle and loading conditions affect greatly the size and shape of crack tip plastic zone. The mode I crack has a crucial effect on the plastic zone for mixed mode case in plane stress state. The plastic zone for pure mode I crack and pure mode II crack have a symmetrical distribution to the initial crack plane.  相似文献

A three-dimensional micromechanical unit cell model for particle-filled materials is presented. The cell model is based on a Voronoi tessellation of particles arranged on a body-centered cubic (BCC) array. The three-dimensionality of the present cell model enables the study of several deformation modes, including uniaxial, plane strain and simple shear deformations, as well as arbitrary principal stress states. The unit cell model is applied to studies on the micromechanical and macromechanical behavior of rubber-toughened polycarbonate. Different load cases are examined, including plane strain deformation, simple shear deformation and principal stress states. For a constant macroscopic strain rate, the different load cases show that the macroscopic flow strength of the blend decreases with an increase in void volume fraction, as expected. The main mechanism for plastic deformation is broad shear banding across inter-particle ligaments. The distributed nature of plastic straining acts to reduce the amount of macroscopic strain softening in the blend as the initial void volume fraction is increased. In the case of plane strain deformation, the plastic flow is observed to initiate across inter-particle ligaments in the direction of constraint. This particular mode of deformation could not have been captured using a two-dimensional, plane strain idealization of cylindrical voids in a matrix. The potential for localized crazing and/or cavitation in the matrix is addressed. It is observed that the introduction of voids acts to relieve hydrostatic stress in the matrix material, compared to the homopolymer. It is also seen that the predicted peak hydrostatic stress in the matrix is higher under plane strain deformation than under triaxial tension (with equal lateral stresses), for the same macroscopic stress triaxiality. The effect of void volume fraction on the macroscopic uniaxial tension behavior of the different blends is examined using a Considère construction for dilatant materials. The natural draw ratio was predicted to decrease with an increase in void volume fraction.  相似文献

Materials with a regular structure characterized by quasi-brittle and quasi-ductile fractures are considered in the case where the characteristic linear dimension of the structural element is known. Necessary and sufficient fracture criteria are constructed using the Neuber-Novozhilov approach. A modified Leonov-Panasyuk-Dugdale model for an opening mode crack is proposed where the width of the prefracture zone coincides with the width of the plasticity zone. For the critical parameters of quasi-brittle fracture (tensile stress, length of prefracture zones, stress intensity factors), relations are obtained that allow material fracture to be considered in the case where the crack length is negligible compared to the characteristic linear dimension of the structural element. A fracture diagram obtained using the critical stresses calculated from the necessary and sufficient criteria is considered in a wide range of crack lengths. The elastoplastic problem of extension of a plate with a central crack is solved using the finite-element method. The dimensions and shape of the plastic zone near the crack tip are determined for different levels of loads corresponding to quasi-brittle and quasi-ductile fracture. The obtained results are analyzed to estimate the width of the prefracture zone and the critical crack opening.  相似文献

A method of estimating the latent elastic energy associated with the microinhomogeneity of the stress and plastic–strain fields inside the plastic zone localized near the tip of an opening–mode crack (Dugdale zone) under conditions of plane stresses is proposed. The microinhomogeneity of plastic flow upon small strain hardening is taken into account only in the form of considerable distortion of the geometry of the free surfaces of the plastic zone. The damage that developes because of release of the latent free energy is estimated depending on the magnitude of the crack opening.  相似文献

The Dugdale crack model is generalized to the case of plane strain. The governing equations are set up to determine the stresses in the plastic zone. Numerical results from specific problems are analyzed and compared with those for plane stress state and other cases. A relationship between the crack model and K I-T theory is established in the case of small-scale yielding at the crack tip __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 41, No. 6, pp. 44–55, June 2005.  相似文献

Cracks in ductile single crystals are analyzed here for geometries and orientations such that two-dimensional states of anti-plane shear constitute possible deformation fields. The crystals are modelled as ideally plastic and yield according to critical resolved shear stresses on their slip systems. Restrictions on the asymptotic forms of stress and deformation fields at crack tips are established for anti-plane loading of stationary and quasistatically growing cracks, and solutions are presented for several specific orientations in f.c.c. and b.c.c. crystals. The asymptotic solutions are complemented by complete elastic-plastic solutions for stationary and growing cracks under small scale yielding, based on previous work by Rice (1967, 1984) and Freund (1979). Remarkably, the plastic zone at a stationary crack tip collapses into discrete planes of displacement and stress discontinuity emanating from the tip; plastic flow consists of concentrated shear on the displacement discontinuities. For the growing crack these same planes, if not coincident with the crack plane, constitute collapsed plastic zones in which velocity and plastic strain discontinuities occur, but across which the stresses and anti-plane displacement are fully continuous. The planes of discontinuity are in several cases coincident with crystal slip planes but it is shown that this need not be the case, e.g., for orientations in which anti-plane yielding occurs by multi-slip, or for special orientations in which the crack tip and the discontinuity planes are perpendicular to the activated slip plane.  相似文献

The paper addresses a three-dimensional problem for an elliptic crack with a ring plastic zone under uni- and triaxial loading at infinity. The normal stresses in the plastic zone are found from the conditions that the stresses are constrained and the plane strain is local and from the yield criterion for the given material. The size of the elliptic ring is calculated by Rice's variational formula. It is shown that the constraint ratio for plastic strains under triaxial loading may be greater than that under loads close to hydrostatic tension. The contour of the plastic zone is confocal to the initial crack  相似文献

Large-scale thin-walled structures with a low weight-to-stiffness ratio provide the means for cost and energy efficiency in structural design. However, the design of such structures for crash and impact resistance requires reliable FE simulations. Large shell elements are used in those simulations. Simulations require the knowledge of the true stress–strain response of the material until fracture initiation. Because of the size effects, local material relation determined with experiments is not applicable to large shell elements. Therefore, a numerical method is outlined to determine the effect of element size on the macroscopic response of large structural shell elements until fracture initiation. Macroscopic response is determined by introducing averaging unit into the numerical model over which volume averaged equivalent stress and plastic strain are evaluated. Three different stress states are considered in this investigation: uniaxial, plane strain and equi-biaxial tension. The results demonstrate that fracture strain is highly sensitive to size effects in uniaxial tension whereas in plane strain or equi-biaxial tension size effects are much weaker. In uniaxial and plane strain tension the fracture strain for large shell elements approaches the Swift diffuse necking condition.  相似文献

A physical cut model is used to describe the changes in the stress-strain state(SSS)in elastoplastic bodies weakened by cracks. The distance between the crack edges is considered to be finite in contrast to the mathematical cut. The interactive layer with a thickness limited by the possibility of using the hypothesis of continuity is distinguished on the physical cut extension.Distribution of stresses and strains over the layer thickness is constant and does not depend on the geometry of the boundary between the cut and the interactive layer. The relationship between stresses and strains is determined by the deformation plasticity theory. The problem of plane strain or plane stress state of an arbitrary finite body weakened by a physical cut is reduced to solving a system of two variational equations for displacement fields in the body parts adjacent to the interactive layer. The proposed approach eliminates the singularity in stress distribution in contrast to the mathematical cut model. Use of local strength criteria allows us to determine the time, point and direction of the fracture initiation. Possibilities of the proposed model are illustrated by solving the problems of determining the SSS of a rectangular body weakened by a physical cut under symmetric and antisymmetric loadings.  相似文献

A model problem of plane strain of an elastoplastic material is considered. It is shown that the type of stress state in the loading plane affects the dependence of the solution on Poisson??s ratio. It is found that for the state in which the principal stresses in the loading plane are approximately equal, the effect of compressibility is significant, so that it must be taken into account. It is shown that if the principal stresses in the loading plane have different signs, the solutions for compressible and incompressible materials are almost the same.  相似文献

Recent calculations by J.R. Griffiths and D.R.J. Owen (1971) on the growth of the elastic-plastic stresses for the plane strain bending of a V-notched bar reveal an interesting phenomenon : the stress maximum lies some way before the elastic-plastic interface, inside the plastic zone. Later calculations have confirmed this effect, for both work-hardening and perfectly-plastic von Mises and Tresca materials. At low applied loads the calculated stresses conflict with plastic slip-line field theory. This result is important, because it means that notch stresses before general yield cannot readily be deduced by etching up plastically-yielded zones. This paper explains the conflict analytically.  相似文献

Cutting-induced plasticity can lead to elevated uncertainties in residual stress measurements made by the contour method. In this study plasticity-induced stress errors are numerically evaluated for a benchmark edge-welded beam to understand the underlying mechanism. Welding and cutting are sequentially simulated by finite element models which have been validated by previous experimental results. It is found that a cutting direction normal to the symmetry plane of the residual stress distribution can lead to a substantially asymmetrical back-calculated stress distribution, owing to cutting-induced plasticity. In general, the stresses at sample edges are most susceptible to error, particularly when the sample is restrained during cutting. Inadequate clamping (far from the plane of cut) can lead to highly concentrated plastic deformation in local regions, and consequently the back-calculated stresses have exceptionally high values and gradients at these locations. Furthermore, the overall stress distribution is skewed towards the end-of-cut side. Adequate clamping (close to the plane of cut) minimises errors in back-calculated stress which becomes insensitive to the cutting direction. For minimal constraint (i.e. solely preventing rigid body motion), the plastic deformation is relatively smoothly distributed, and an optimal cutting direction (i.e. cutting from the base material towards the weld region in a direction that falls within the residual stress symmetry plane) is identified by evaluating the magnitude of stress errors. These findings suggest that cutting process information is important for the evaluation of potential plasticity-induced errors in contour method results, and that the cutting direction and clamping strategy can be optimised with an understanding of their effects on plasticity and hence the back-calculated stresses.  相似文献

The problem of the beginning of motion of a cut in a plane under symmetric external loading is considered. The material lying on the cut continuation forms a layer (interaction layer). A transition to a plastic state within the layer is assumed to be possible. The behavior of the layer is described by an ideally elastoplastic model, and the plane outside the layer is assumed to be linearly elastic. A system of boundary integral equations for determining the stress-strain state is derived. Based on this system, a discrete model of separation of the layer material is constructed under the assumption of a constant stress-strain state in the element of the interaction layer. The distribution of stresses in the pre-fracture zone is determined. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 50, No. 4, pp. 187–195, July–August, 2009  相似文献

The surface integrity of inconel-718 nickel-base superalloy was investigated using orthogonal cutting at various cutting speeds, depths of cut and chip-tool contact lengths under lubricated conditions. The experimental work involved the determination of residual stress, plastic strain and microhardness distribution in the surface region and the examination of the surface and subsurface using scanning electron and optical microscopy. Both residual stresses and plastic strains decreased and the quality of the mechined surface improved with an increase in cutting speed, a decrease in depth of cut and with tools having controlled chip-tool contact lengths. The results were interpreted in terms of the variation in shear plane length and consequently the variation in tool forces with cutting conditions.  相似文献

A macroscopic yield function for porous solids with pressure-sensitive matrices modeled by Coulomb's yield function was obtained by generalizing Gurson's yield function with consideration of the hydrostatic yield stress of a spherical thick-walled shell and by fitting the finite element results of the yield stresses of a voided cube. The macroscopic yield function is valid for the negative hydrostatic stress as well as for the positive hydrostatic stress. From the yield function, a plastic potential function for the porous solids was derived either for plastic normality flow or for plastic non-normality flow of the pressure-sensitive matrices. In addition, void nucleation was modeled by a normal distribution function with the macroscopic hydrostatic stress regarded as a controlling stress. This set of constitutive relations was implemented into a finite element code abaqus as a user material subroutine to analyze the cavitation and the deformation behavior of a rubber-modified epoxy around a crack tip under the Mode I plane strain conditions. By comparing the cavitation zone and the plastic zone obtained in the analysis with those observed in an experiment, the mean stress and the standard deviation for the void nucleation model could be determined. The cavitation and the deformation behavior of the rubber-modified epoxy were also analyzed around notches under four-point bending. The size and shape of the cavitation zone and the plastic zone were shown to be in good agreement with those observed in an experiment.  相似文献
