We show how to compute nonlinear optical absorption spectra of an Asymmetric Double Quantum Well (ADQW) in the region of intersubband electronic transitions. The method uses the microscopic calculation of the dephasing due to electron-electron and electron-phonon scattering rates and the macroscopic real density matrix approach to compute the electromagnetic fields and susceptibilities. The polarization dephasing and the corrections to the Rabi frequencies due to the electron-electron interaction are also taken into account. For a proper choice of the QW widths and of the driving fields we obtain electromagnetically induced transparency. This transparency has a very narrow linewidth when a single driving field is applied resonant to the transition between the second and the third subband. In the case of two resonant driving fields or of a driving field resonant between the first and third subband we obtain a large transparency enhancement over the entire absorption spectrum. Results are given for GaAs/GaAlAs QWs and experiments are proposed. Received 21 June 2001 and Received in final form 21 January 2002  相似文献

The time evolution of a damped two-level atom coupled to a damped field mode at resonance is calculated analytically as well as numerically in the basis of dressed states. We study the dynamics of the density matrix and of observables, e.g. the number of field quanta. For the initial states we consider the field to be in a Fock or Glauber state and the atom in the ground or excited state. We show the significant influence of the damping on the well-known phenomena of this model, e.g. collapse and revival. Received 22 January 2001 and Received in final form 16 May 2001  相似文献

The dressed-state populations and the resonance fluorescence spectrum of a V-type three-level atom driven by a strong coherent field and a weak stochastic one simultaneously are investigated. There can be significant population inversion due to the effect of the stochastic field. The atomic resonance fluorescence spectrum can be controlled by adjusting the frequency difference between the coherent field and the stochastic one and the coherent Rabi frequency. Peak suppression and line narrowing occur under appropriate conditions. Received 23 June 2000 and Received in final form 18 January 2001  相似文献

We have studied the spontaneous emission behaviour in a five-level M-type atom driven by two optical fields of high frequencies and a microwave field of low-frequency. In absence of non-orthogonal decaying pathways, due to microwave field induced low-frequency coherence, the present model produces the emission spectrum resembling that of a three-level system controlled by the effect of vacuum induced decay-interference. For particular sets of values of the Rabi frequencies of the resonant coherent fields, the system exhibits quantum interference induced switching effect. By using this model, we have shown that the phenomenon of narrowing can be induced in the emission peaks without any detuning and phase control of the coherent fields. With the increase in the value of the Rabi frequency of the microwave field, this feature will be accompanied by the peak-compression and -repulsion effect. When the coherent fields are far from resonance, the appearance of the single-photon and the two-photon peaks in the emission spectrum can be easily controlled by changing the value of the Rabi frequency of the microwave field. We have shown the appearance of multiple dark regions in the emission line shape for equal as well as unequal decay rates of two emission pathways. Other interesting phenomena like elimination, enhancement and suppression of spectral line are also explored in various resonant and non-resonant cases.  相似文献

The nondegenerate two-photon interaction of a two-level atom with a broadband multimode squeezed vacuum is investigated. We find that in the two-photon process the squeezed vacuum has a driving effect on the atom which can lead to an ac Stark effect when the average photon number of the squeezed vacuum is larger than a critical value. In order to achieve the phase-sensitive probe gain without population inversion, we investigate a three-level Λ-type atomic system driven by a coherent field and a microwave field. It is shown that, by modulating the relative phase of applied fields, we can obtain quite high inversionless gain at different probe detunings and change the gain behavior of the probe correspondingly. We find that amplitudes of the coherent field and the microwave field are also important factors that can result in different gain behavior of the probe. Here, we use the microwave field to induce the quantum coherence between the two ground levels, which is necessary for phase-sensitive effects, since it can result in the interference between two different transition channels. We show that the bichromatic phase control of the spontaneous emission spectrum leads to the sub-half-wavelength atom localization. We consider a three-level Λ-type atom interacting with a bichromatic coupling field and a bichromatic probe field with equal frequency difference. One component of the bichromatic coupling field is a standing-wave field with position dependent Rabi frequency. When the spontaneous emitted photons are detected, the atom is localized in either of the two half-wavelength regions with 50% probability by the variation of the difference between the relative phases of the two bichromatic fields.  相似文献

We report results of a theoretical and experimental study of the ground state nonlinear Hanle effect under strong laser excitation. It is shown that besides the well-known zero-magnetic field suppression of absorption on F g = FF e = F - 1 transitions caused by population trapping, an optical pumping induced enhanced absorption occurs on F g = FF e = F + 1 transitions for small B-fields. The latter effect becomes more pronounced for high F values. The experiment with atomic vapor of Cs (D2 line, F g = 4) confirms an increase of the spectrally unresolved fluorescence yield at zero magnetic field and 600 mW/cm2 laser intensity by 9% or 42%, when excitation occurs with linearly or circularly polarized light, respectively. The results of the experiment agree with numerical simulation studies using equations of motion for a density matrix. The quadrature squeezing spectra in the resonance fluorescence of a V-type three-level atom driven by a coherent field and coupled to a single-mode cavity is investigated. For weak excitation, the fluorescence field exhibit squeezing in the out-of-phase quadrature. The coupling between the atom and the cavity mode can greatly enhance the squeezing centred at the laser frequency. More importantly, for strong excitation, under the effect of the cavity-atom coupling, the in-phase quadrature of fluorescence can exhibit two-mode squeezing at the two inner sideband frequencies. By working in the dressed-state representation and hiring secular approximation, we give an analytical explanation for the effect. The result shows, under appropriate conditions, the squeezing can be greatly enhanced by appropriately tuning the cavity resonant frequency.  相似文献

We have considered the interference spectra that occur at the three-photon generated frequency arising from the interaction of three laser fields with a four-level atom, where two of the laser fields are on two-photon resonance with the three levels forming a “λ” scheme while the third laser operates between the second ground and the second excited state of the atom. At low intensities of all three laser fields, the overall intensity of the peak at the three-photon generated frequency, describing the spectrum of an electron in the second excited state, depends on the strength of the combined field of the two laser fields that are on two-photon resonance and it takes negative values. This indicates that light amplification without population inversion is likely to occur at the three-photon generated frequency. The combined field of the three laser fields induces multiphoton excitations near the three-photon generated frequency, whose peaks are characterized by linewidths which are much less than the natural linewidths of the atoms. These excitations describe absorption or stimulating emission processes depending on the values of the detunings of the laser fields. The derived results are graphically presented and discussed.

We report on the first successful loading of a magneto-optical trap (MOT) with metastable He atoms from a Stark-slower. Thereby, deceleration of the atoms relies on laser-atom interaction in an inhomogeneous electric field. We show that the results obtained are comparable with early results from other groups achieved with a Zeeman slower. The Stark slower, which is able to fully control the final velocity of the atomic He beam, is the first step in achieving complete spin independent kinematic control based solely on electric fields. Total Compton, individual shell and Compton energy-absorption scattering cross-sections are evaluated in the energy region 0.005 to 10 MeV for H, C, N, O, P and Ca. Compton energy absorption cross-sections deviate numerically with available values. The cause of the numerical discrepancies are not fully understood but can be attributed to Doppler broadening of the Compton scattered photons through a given angle. We study the absorption spectra of a degenerate V-type atom, where a resonant driving field and a probe field drive different branches of transitions and a dc field is applied to drive the transition between two excited states. The effects of vacuum induced coherence (VIC) on the absorption spectra are investigated. It is demonstrated that in some special cases the VIC can lead to the depression of absorption and narrow resonance. The origin of these features are discussed. When the pump field and the dc field have the same intensity, it is interesting to find that the whole absorption spectrum comes mainly from the absorptions induced by the interferences among different transitions between dressed states.  相似文献

Four-wave mixing in resonant atomic vapors based on maximum coherence induced by Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP) is investigated theoretically. We show the advantages of a coupling scheme involving maximum coherence and demonstrate how a large atomic coherence between a ground and an highly excited state can be prepared by SCRAP. Full analytic solutions of the field propagation problem taking into account pump field depletion are derived. The solutions are obtained with the help of an Hamiltonian approach which in the adiabatic limit permits to reduce the full set of Maxwell-Bloch equations to simple canonical equations of Hamiltonian mechanics for the field variables. It is found that the conversion efficiency reached is largely enhanced if the phase mismatch induced by linear refraction is compensated. A detailed analysis of the phase matching conditions shows, however, that the phase mismatch contribution from the Kerr effect cannot be compensated simultaneously with linear refraction contribution. Therefore, the conversion efficiency in a coupling scheme involving maximum coherence prepared by SCRAP is high, but not equal to unity. We study the control of spontaneous emission in a five-level atomic system driven by four fields. We show that with the variation of dynamical variables, namely, Rabi frequencies and carrier phases of driven fields, a wide variety of the spectral behavior can be obtained, including extreme spectral narrowing. Our system can be found easily in real atoms.  相似文献

The interactions between a two-level atom and a field with a time-varying frequency have been investigated. The two typical cases, the frequency of the field varying with time in the forms of sine and rectangle, have been considered. The dynamic behavior of the atom-field entanglement is investigated numerically as function of time. A number of novel phenomena are discovered and discussed. The sine modulation of the field frequency can help to realize and stabilize the degree of the atom-field entanglement at high level. The influence of the rectangular frequency modulated field on the atom-field entanglement indicates that the entanglement is more sensitive to the detuning than the correlation between different Rabi oscillations. Not only the sine field frequency modulation but also the rectangular field frequency modulation is favorable to improve, enhance and stabilize the degree of the atom-field entanglement.  相似文献

We studied effects of the relative phase between the probe and driving fields on the absorption and dispersion properties in an open three-level ladder system with spontaneously generated coherence but without incoherent pumping. It is shown that by the phase controlling, switching from absorption to lasing without inversion (LWI) and enhancing remarkablely LWI gain can be realized; large index of refraction with zero absorption and the electromagnetically induced transparency can be obtained. We also find that varying the atomic injection and exit rates has a considerable influence on the phase dependent-absorption property of the probe field, existent of the atomic injection and exit rates gives the necessary condition of the realization of LWI, getting LWI is impossible in the corresponding closed system without incoherent pumping.  相似文献

The spontaneous emission properties of a Λ type atom embedded in a three-dimensional anisotropic photonic crystal are investigated. Only one of the two atomic transition frequencies is considered near the photonic band edge. The atomic decay properties such as the time-evolution of the excited-state population and the instant and effective decay rates are studied in detail. It is found that there exists a wide region for the difference of the transition frequency from the band edge, in which only diffusion fields with frequencies being near or far away from the band edge appear in the emitted field. The spontaneous emitted field and its spectrum depend not only on the detuning of the transition frequency from the band edge, but also on the distance from the atom. Therefore, during the propagating process, the propagating field is partially transferred into the diffusion field.  相似文献
