Photoexcitation of a zinc phthalocyanine-perylenediimide (ZnPc-PDI) dyad affords the triplet excited state without the fluorescence emission, whereas addition of Mg2+ to the photoexcited ZnPc-PDI results in formation of a long-lived charge-separated state (ZnPc.+-PDI.-/Mg2+) in which PDI.- forms a complex with Mg2+.  相似文献

While preparing the first structurally rigid zinc phthalocyanine-benzoquinone (ZnPc-BQ) dyad as a model for photoinduced charge separation mimicking natural photosynthesis, a convenient method is developed for in situ generation of a benzoquinone chromophore in the dyad using an iso-butyryl mask. The dyad has no rotamers and possesses a fixed distance between ZnPc and BQ moieties (center-to-center and edge-to-edge distances are 9.40 and 2.14 A, respectively). The dyad displays unusual electronic perturbation in the ground state, resulting from the interactions between Pc and BQ, and exhibits photoinduced electron transfer with a lifetime of 40 ps of the charged separated states. The steady-state fluorescence and electrochemical behavior of the dyad are evaluated. This study opens a route to subsequent dyads, triads, and complex architectures of electron donor-acceptor arrays with rigid structures and long charge separation states.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] Photoexcitation of a zinc imidazoporphyrin-fullerene dyad with a short linkage results in formation of the charge-separated state by photoinduced electron transfer. The charge-separated state has a lifetime of 310 micros in benzonitrile at 278 K, which is the longest lifetime in solution ever reported for electron donor-acceptor-linked dyads.  相似文献

A highly Y3+-selective fluorescence sensor has been developed using zinc porphyrin-CONH-quinone dyad (ZnP-CONH-Q). The selective binding of the Q moiety of ZnP-CONH-Q with Y3+ retards electron transfer from the singlet excited state (1ZnP*) to Q, leading to a remarkable enhancement of the fluorescence intensity.  相似文献

Photonic control of photoinduced electron transfer has been demonstrated in a dimethyldihydropyrene (DHP) porphyrin (P) fullerene (C(60)) molecular triad. In the DHP-P-C(60) form of the triad, excitation of the porphyrin moiety is followed by photoinduced electron transfer to give a DHP-P(*)(+)-C(60)(*)(-) charge-separated state, which evolves by a charge shift reaction to DHP(*)(+)-P-C(60)(*)(-). This final state has a lifetime of 2 micros and is formed in an overall yield of 94%. Visible (>or=300 nm) irradiation of the triad leads to photoisomerization of the DHP moiety to the cyclophanediene (CPD). Excitation of the porphyrin moiety of CPD-P-C(60) produces a short-lived (<10 ns) CPD-P(*)(+)-C(60)(*)(-) state, but charge shift to the CPD moiety does not occur, due to the relatively high oxidation potential of the CPD group. Long-lived charge separation is not observed. Irradiation of CPD-P-C(60) with UV (254 nm) light converts the triad back to the DHP form. Thermal interconversion of the DHP and CPD forms is very slow, photochemical cycling is facile, and in the absence of oxygen, many cycles may be performed without substantial degradation. Thus, light is used to switch long-lived photoinduced charge separation on or off. The principles demonstrated by the triad may be useful for the design of molecule-based optoelectronic systems.  相似文献

A dithienylethene (DTE)-porphyrin (P)-fullerene (C(60)) triad molecule in which intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer is controlled by the photochromic DTE moiety has been prepared. Irradiation of the molecule with visible light gives the open form of the dithienylethene (DTEo). Excitation of the porphyrin gives DTEo-(1)P-C(60), which undergoes photoinduced electron transfer with a time constant of 25 ps to generate DTEo-P(.+)-C(60)(.-). Irradiation with ultraviolet light produces the closed form of the dithienylethene (DTEc). Excitation of DTEc-P-C(60) yields DTEc-(1)P-C(60), whose porphyrin first excited singlet state is quenched in 2.3 ps by singlet-singlet energy transfer to DTEc, generating (1)DTEc-P-C(60) and precluding significant photoinduced electron transfer. Such highly reversible photonically controlled intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer may eventually be useful in the design of photonic or optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

A molecular dyad and triad, comprised of a known photosensitizer, BF(2)-chelated dipyrromethane (BDP), covalently linked to its structural analog and near-IR emitting sensitizer, BF(2)-chelated tetraarylazadipyrromethane (ADP), have been newly synthesized and the photoinduced energy and electron transfer were examined by femtosecond and nanosecond laser flash photolysis. The structural integrity of the newly synthesized compounds has been established by spectroscopic, electrochemical, and computational methods. The DFT calculations revealed a molecular-clip-type structure for the triad, in which the BDP and ADP entities are separated by about 14 ? with a dihedral angle between the fluorophores of around 70°. Differential pulse voltammetry studies have revealed the redox states, allowing estimation of the energies of the charge-separated states. Such calculations revealed a charge separation from the singlet excited BDP ((1)BDP*) to ADP (BDP(.+)-ADP(.-)) to be energetically favorable in nonpolar toluene and in polar benzonitrile. In addition, the excitation transfer from the singlet BDP to ADP is also envisioned due to good spectral overlap of the BDP emission and ADP absorption spectra. Femtosecond laser flash photolysis studies provided concrete evidence for the occurrence of energy transfer from (1)BDP* to ADP (in benzonitrile and toluene) and electron transfer from BDP to (1)ADP* (in benzonitrile, but not in toluene). The kinetic study of energy transfer was measured by monitoring the rise of the ADP emission and revealed fast energy transfer (ca. 10(11) s(-1)) in these molecular systems. The kinetics of electron transfer via (1)ADP*, measured by monitoring the decay of the singlet ADP at λ=820 nm, revealed a relatively fast charge-separation process from BDP to (1)ADP*. These findings suggest the potential of the examined ADP-BDP molecules to be efficient photosynthetic antenna and reaction center models.  相似文献

The synthesis, structural characterization, and photophysical behavior of a 14-membered tetraazamacrocycle with pendant 4-dimethylaminobenzyl (DMAB) and 9-anthracenylmethyl groups is reported (L3, 6-((9-anthracenylmethyl)amino)-trans-6,13-dimethyl-13-((4-dimethylaminobenzyl)amino)-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane). In its free base form, this compound displays rapid intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) quenching of the anthracene emission, with both the secondary amines and the DMAB group capable of acting as electron donors. When complexed with Zn(II), the characteristic fluorescence of the anthracene chromophore is restored as the former of these pathways is deactivated by coordination. Importantly, it is shown that the DMAB group, which remains uncoordinated and PET active, acts only very weakly to quench emission, by comparison to the behavior of a model Zn complex lacking the pendant DMAB group, [ZnL2]2+ (Chart 1). By contrast, Stern-Volmer analysis of intermolecular quenching of [ZnL2]2+ by N,N-dimethylaniline (DMA) has shown that this reaction is diffusion limited. Hence, the pivotal role of the bridge in influencing intramolecular PET is highlighted.  相似文献

The interaction between metalloporphyrins and their axial ligands plays an important role in the electron transfer (ET) processes in which the excited porphyrin participates. An efficient photoinduced ET reaction of a double-linked zinc(II) porphyrin-fullerene dyad was demonstrated in ionic environment. The chloride ion of tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBACl) electrolyte solution ligates the zinc porphyrin moiety in the dyad which results in a red shift of the absorption bands and lowers the energy of the charge-separated state by about 0.26 eV as compared to the nonligated dyad. Excitation of the porphyrin chromophore results in ET from porphyrin to fullerene in a moderately polar solvent, anisole. In nonionic and nonligating ionic environments, the ET reaction occurs through an intermediate state, an intramolecular exciplex, which has emission in the near-infrared region of the spectrum. This emission is not observed directly for the dyad in TBACl/anisole solution, but evidence of the exciplex intermediate was seen in the time-resolved measurements. The lower energy of the charge-separated state in the ligated environment explains the different ET reaction rates determined in the spectroscopic studies: the charge recombination process of the ligated dyad is about 5 times faster than that of the nonligated one.  相似文献

Tuning thermodynamic driving force and electronic coupling through structural modifications of a carotene (C) porphyrin (P) fullerene (C60) molecular triad has permitted control of five electron and energy transfer rate constants and two excited state lifetimes in order to prepare a high-energy charge-separated state by photoinduced electron transfer with a quantum yield of essentially unity (> or = 96%). Excitation of the porphyrin moiety of C-P-C60 is followed by a combination of photoinduced electron transfer to give C-P(.+)-C60.- and singlet-singlet energy transfer to yield C-P-1C60. The fullerene excited state accepts an electron from the porphyrin to also generate C-P(.+)-C60.-. Overall, this initial state is formed with a quantum yield of 0.97. Charge shift from the carotenoid to yield C(.+)-P-C60.- is at least 60 times faster than recombination of C-P(.+)-C60.-, leading to the overall quantum yield near unity for the final state. Formation of a similar charge-separate species from the zinc analog of the triad with a yield of 40% is also observed. Charge recombination of C(.+)-P-C60.- in 2-methyltetrahydrofuran yields the carotenoid triplet state, rather than the ground state. Comparison of the results for this triad with those for related triads with different structural features provides information concerning the effects of driving force and electronic coupling on each of the electron transfer steps.  相似文献

A newly designed ferrocene-quinone dyad with an amide space (Fc-Q) is employed to examine formation of the hydrogen bonding in the one-electron reduced form (Q*-) and the dynamics in the photoinduced electron-transfer reaction from the ferrocene to the quinone moiety. Photoexcitation of the Q moiety in Fc-Q in deaerated PhCN with 388 nm results in intramolecular electron transfer from Fc to the singlet excited state of Q to produce Fc+-Q*- without changing the conformation (<1 ps), followed by hydrogen bond formation with the amide proton of the spacer (tau = approximately 5 ps). The resulting radical ion pair decays via a back electron transfer to the ground state at a longer time scale with a rate constant of 2.6 x 108 s-1.  相似文献

A ferrocene-quinone dyad (Fc-Q) with a rigid amide spacer and Fc-(Me)Q dyad, in which the amide proton acting as a hydrogen-bonding acceptor is replaced by the methyl group, are employed to examine the effects of hydrogen bonding on both the thermal and the photoinduced electron-transfer reactions. The hydrogen bonding of the semiquinone radical anion with the amide proton in Fc-Q(.-) produced by the electron-transfer reduction of Fc-Q is indicated by the significant positive shift of the one-electron reduction potential of Fc-Q. The hyperfine coupling constants of Fc-Q(.-) also indicate the existence of hydrogen bonding, agreeing with those predicted by the density functional calculation. The hydrogen-bonding dynamics in the photoinduced electron transfer from the ferrocene (Fc) to the quinone moiety (Q) in Fc-Q have been successfully detected in the femtosecond laser flash photolysis experiments. Thermal intramolecular electron transfer from Fc to Q in Fc-Q and Fc-(Me)Q also occurs efficiently in the presence of metal ions in acetonitrile at 298 K. The hydrogen bond formed between the semiquinone radical anion and the amide proton in Fc-Q results in remarkable acceleration of the rate of metal ion-promoted electron transfer as compared to the rate of Fc-(Me)Q in which hydrogen bonding is prohibited. The metal ion-promoted electron-transfer rates are well correlated with the binding energies of superoxide ion-metal ion complexes, which are derived from the g(zz) values of the ESR spectra.  相似文献

Zinc porphyrin-naphthalenediimide (ZnP-NIm) dyads and zinc porphyrin-pyromellitdiimide-naphthalenediimide (ZnP-Im-NIm) triad have been employed to examine the effects of metal ions on photoinduced charge-separation (CS) and charge-recombination (CR) processes in the presence of metal ions (scandium triflate (Sc(OTf)(3)) or lutetium triflate (Lu(OTf)(3)), both of which can bind with the radical anion of NIm). Formation of the charge-separated states in the absence and in the presence of Sc(3+) was confirmed by the appearance of absorption bands due to ZnP(.) (+) and NIm(.) (-) in the absence of metal ions and of those due to ZnP(.) (+) and the NIm(.) (-)/Sc(3+) complex in the presence of Sc(3+) in the time-resolved transient absorption spectra of dyads and triad. The lifetimes of the charge-separated states in the presence of 1.0 x 10(-3) M Sc(3+) (14 micros for ZnP-NIm, 8.3 micros for ZnP-Im-NIm) are more than ten times longer than those in the absence of metal ions (1.3 micros for ZnP-NIm, 0.33 micros for ZnP-Im-NIm). In contrast, the rate constants of the CS step determined by the fluorescence lifetime measurements are the same, irrespective of the presence or absence of metal ions. This indicates that photoinduced electron transfer from (1)ZnP(*) to NIm in the presence of Sc(3+) occurs without involvement of the metal ion to produce ZnP(.) (+)-NIm(.) (-), followed by complexation with Sc(3+) to afford the ZnP(.) (+)-NIm(.) (-)/Sc(3+) complex. The one-electron reduction potential (E(red)) of the NIm moiety in the presence of a metal ion is shifted in a positive direction with increasing metal ion concentration, obeying the Nernst equation, whereas the one-electron oxidation potential of the ZnP moiety remains the same. The driving force dependence of the observed rate constants (k(ET)) of CS and CR processes in the absence and in the presence of metal ions is well evaluated in terms of the Marcus theory of electron transfer. In the presence of metal ions, the driving force of the CS process is the same as that in the absence of metal ions, whereas the driving force of the CR process decreases with increasing metal ion concentration. The reorganization energy of the CR process also decreases with increasing metal ion concentration, when the CR rate constant becomes independent of the metal ion concentration.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to discuss: (i) the general approaches to the initiation of cationic polymerization by photinduced electron transfer reactions (ii) the use of photoinduced electron transfer reactions for block copolymer synthesis. For the first, it is concluded that three general methods are currently available which involve reduction of onium salts by (a) photogenerated radicals, (b) photoexcited sensitizers or (c) electron donor compounds in charge transfer complexes. According to this view, a variety of initiating systems are discussed. For the second, recent developments on the application of photoinduced electron transfer reactions to the synthesis of block copolymer of monomers polymerizable with different mechanisms are presented.  相似文献

Quenching of the 3MLCT excited state of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (bpy=bipyridine) by the reduction products (MV*+ and MV0) of methyl viologen (MV2+) was studied by a combination of electrochemistry with laser flash photolysis or femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. Both for the bimolecular reactions and for the reactions in an Ru(bpy)3(2+)-MVn+ dyad, quenching by MV*+ and MV0 is reductive and gives the reduced ruthenium complex [Ru(bpy)3]+, in contrast to the oxidative quenching by MV2+. Rate constants of quenching (kq), and thermal charge recombination (krec) and cage escape yields (phi(ce)) were determined for the bimolecular reactions, and rates of forward (kf) and backward (kb) electron transfer in the dyad were measured for quenching by MV2+, MV*+, and MV0. The reactions in the dyad are very rapid, with values up to kf = 1.3 x 10(12) s(-1) for *Ru(bpy)3(2+)-MV*+. In addition, a long-lived (tau = 15 ps) vibrationally excited state of MV*+ with a characteristically structured absorption spectrum was detected; this was generated by direct excitation of the MV*+ moiety both at 460 and 600 nm. The results show that the direction of photoinduced electron transfer in a Ru(bpy)3-MV molecule can be switched by an externally applied bias.  相似文献

We report on the discovery and detailed exploration of the unconventional photo-switching mechanism in metallofullerenes, in which the energy of the photon absorbed by the carbon cage π-system is transformed to mechanical motion of the endohedral cluster accompanied by accumulation of spin density on the metal atoms. Comprehensive photophysical and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies augmented by theoretical modelling are performed to address the phenomenon of the light-induced photo-switching and triplet state spin dynamics in a series of YxSc3−xN@C80 (x = 0–3) nitride clusterfullerenes. Variable temperature and time-resolved photoluminescence studies revealed a strong dependence of their photophysical properties on the number of Sc atoms in the cluster. All molecules in the series exhibit temperature-dependent luminescence assigned to the near-infrared thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and phosphorescence. The emission wavelengths and Stokes shift increase systematically with the number of Sc atoms in the endohedral cluster, whereas the triplet state lifetime and S1–T1 gap decrease in this row. For Sc3N@C80, we also applied photoelectron spectroscopy to obtain the triplet state energy as well as the electron affinity. Spin distribution and dynamics in the triplet states are then studied by light-induced pulsed EPR and ENDOR spectroscopies. The spin–lattice relaxation times and triplet state lifetimes are determined from the temporal evolution of the electron spin echo after the laser pulse. Well resolved ENDOR spectra of triplets with a rich structure caused by the hyperfine and quadrupolar interactions with 14N, 45Sc, and 89Y nuclear spins are obtained. The systematic increase of the metal contribution to the triplet spin density from Y3N to Sc3N found in the ENDOR study points to a substantial fullerene-to-metal charge transfer in the excited state. These experimental results are rationalized with the help of ground-state and time-dependent DFT calculations, which revealed a substantial variation of the endohedral cluster position in the photoexcited states driven by the predisposition of Sc atoms to maximize their spin population.

Photoexcitation mechanism of YxSc3−xN@C80 metallofullerenes is studied by variable-temperature photoluminescence, advanced EPR techniques, and DFT calculations, revealing photoinduced rotation of the endohedral cluster.  相似文献

We consider electron injection into the conduction band of a semiconductor, from an electronically excited state of a dye molecule, adsorbed on its surface. For arbitrary width of the conduction band, the survival probability of the excited state can be calculated using a Green's-function approach. We show that the existence of a split-off state can play an important role in the total injection probability. In the wide band limit, the survival probability decays exponentially, but for finite band widths it does not. We further investigate the effect of vibrations on the process. A Green's operator technique may be used to solve this too exactly. We show that the problem may be reduced to a non-Hermitian eigenvalue problem for the vibrational states alone. Exact results can be obtained for arbitrary bandwidth and for a few vibrational degrees of freedom. In the wide band limit, the dynamics is particularly simple and we find that (1) the survival probability of the excited state is unchanged by the inclusion of vibrational motion, but (2) each vibrational state now has a finite lifetime. Numerical results are presented for the effects of reorganization energy, energy of the injecting level, and the variation of the matrix element for the electron injection, on the survival probability of the electron in the excited state. As an illustration of the approach, we also present results of numerical calculation of the absorption spectrum of perylene adsorbed on TiO(2) and compare it with experimental results.  相似文献
