(±)-Muricatain has been synthesized employing ringopening of allylic alcohol epoxide with lithium acetonitrileand lactonization.

A total synthesis of (±)tanikolide 1 is described. The six-membered lactone moiety of the title compound was completed through oxidation of α,δ-dihydroxyl compound by PDC.

A FACILE SYNTHESIS OF 1.2-BISPYRROLEETHYLENS

1. 2-Bispyrroleethylenes can be easily syntnesized bv cc,-,pt}ngpyrrolealdehyde using TiCl_4/Zn as a catalyst. It was found that when theR group is COMe or CO_2 Et, the product is a mixture of trans and cisisomers, and in the other cases, the products are pure trans isomers.

The first synthesis of squarnosamide,a new compound isolated from Annona squamosa,was achieved in seven steps.The over all yield was 14%.The compound was identified by~1 H,~(13)CNMR and MS.

STUDIES ON THE TOTAL SYNTHESIS OF MAYTANSINOIDS (Ⅳ)——SYNTHESIS OF MAYTANSINE

This paper reports the total synthesis of optically pure maytansinol and maytansine. The physical constants and spectral data including R_f, m.p., specific rotation, HPLC, UV, CD, IR, NMR, and MS, of synthetic maytansinol and maytansine are identical with those of natural products in all respects. The preliminary biological test showed that synthetic maytansine possesses the same inhibitory activity in vitro against carcinoma cells as the natural product.     

A FACILE SYNTHESIS OF 2-AND 2,4-UNSATURATED AMIDES

A convenient method for preparing unsaturated amides via telluro-nium salts employing solid potassium carbonate as a base with high stereo-selectivity in excellent yields has been developed.

A CONVENIENT PREPARATION OF 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-OCTAHYDRO-NAPHTHALENE SKELETON. SYNTHESIS OF (±)-ISOCARIDIENE

ABSTRACT

Synthesis of isocaridiene, an isomeric compound of natural sesquiterpene caridiene, is described starting from myrcene. Dehydration of tertiary alcohol leading exclusively to isocaridiene was in agreement with the semiempirical and ab initio quantum mechanical calculations.     

REACTION OF ORGAINIC-TELLURONIUM YLIDE XI.A FACILE SYNTHESIS OF DERIVATIVES OF BISCYCLOPROPANE

Some telluronium salts react easily with 1,4-bis(3-substitutedphenyl-3-oxo-1-propenyl)benzene and 1,5-disubstituted phenyl-1,4-pentadien-3-one to afford derivatives of biscyclopropanes in 61.8-88.8% yield.

STUDIES ON ANTIHEPATITIC DRUGS——TOTAL SYNTHESIS OF (±)SCHIZANDRIN C AND ITS ANALOGS

This paper reports the total synthesis of (±) schizandrin, C, namely S, 6, 7, 8-tetrahydro-1,12-dimethoxy-2, 3, 10, 11-bismethylenedioxy-6, 7-cis-dimethyldibenzo (a, c) cyclooctene (12B), a new active SGPT lowering principle isolated from the Chinese medical plant Schizandra chinensis, and its 6, 7-trans-dimethyl isomer (16B). We also synthesized two more isomers, namely 5, 6, 7, 8-tetrahydro-3, 10-dimethoxy-1, 2, 11, 12-bismethylenedioxy-6, and 7-cis-(and trans-) dimethyldibenzo (a, c) eyelooctene (12A and 16A). The NMR, UV and mass spectra of these four isomers are discussed. IR (in chloroform), UV, NMR and MS of synthetic schizandrin C (12B) are identical with those of the natural compound.

A FACILE,HIGH YIELD SYNTHESIS OF γ- AND δ-HYDROXYAMIDES

γ- and δ-Hydroxyamides can be prepared in high yields by heating a lactone with ammonia in a pressure tube. The ammonia can be removed by controlled evaporation with ice/acetone cooling.
