In an attempt to determine the role of a variety of amines in ceric-ion-initiated grafting, poly-(methyl methacrylate) was graft copolymerized onto Himachali wool in the presence of a variety of amines that included ammonia, diethylamine (DEA), dipropylamine (DPA), triethylamine (TEA), triethanol amine, and pyridine. All amines (with the exception of DEA) reduced the percent grafting. The reactivity of various amines toward graft copolymerization followed the order: DEA > DPA > NH3 > TEA > triethanol amine > Py. An explanation based on the basicity, nucleophilicity, and steric requirement of amines is given to explain the observed reactivity order shown by the various amines toward graft copolymerization.  相似文献

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto lignosulfonate in aqueous medium was investigated. It was found that the H2O2–Fe(II) redox system is very effective for the grafting (Ea = 4.4 kcal/mole). The H2O2/Fe2+ ratio was the most important factor in the graft copolymerization and characteristics of the resultant graft copolymers. In most cases, polymerization for 100 min at 30°C was enough to obtain 80% conversion and 50–60% grafting efficiency. The resultant polymer mixture was subjected to extraction alternately with acetone and water, and the graft copolymer was isolated free from homopolymer and unreacted lignosulfonate. With increasing H2O2/Fe2+ ratio, the grafting ratio showed a maximum at 4, whereas the yield of graft copolymer and number of poly(methyl methacrylate) branches for every building unit of lignosulfonate increased up to a ratio of 4, both values, however, remaining constant above 4. The graft copolymer obtained for the case H2O2/Fe2+ = 4 consisted of one part of lignosulfonate and five parts of poly(methyl methacrylate). The number of branches in the graft copolymer was 6 × 10?3/OCH3 or one every 167 guaiacyl nuclei.  相似文献

The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto natural rubber (NR) is investigated using potassium peroxydiphosphate as the initiator. The rate of grafting is determined by varying monomer concentration, peroxydiphosphate concentration, and temperature. The graft yield increased with an increase in monomer concentration up to 1.4082M/L and thereafter the graft yield decreases. The graft yield increases significantly with an increase of peroxydiphosphate concentration up to 150 X 10-1M/L and thereafter the graft yield decreases. The grafting reaction is temperature dependent. A suitable kinetic scheme is proposed and the rate equation is evaluated.  相似文献

The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto silk in aqueous media initiated by the potassium peroxydiphosphate-thiourea redox system was studied at 50°C. The rate of grafting was determined by changing [monomerl], [thiourea], [initiator], acidity of the medium, reaction medium, and temperature. A significant increase percent of grafting was noticed with increasing monomer concentration to 84.49 × 10?2 mole/liter and the further increase is associated with the decrease of graft yield. The graft yield increases with an increase of thiourea (Tu) concentration to 25 × 10?5 mole/liter; then it decreases. A measurable increase in graft yield was observed with an increase in acidity of the medium. Graft yield increases to a certain temperature, i.e., 50°C, and then it decreases. The graft yield increases with an increase of initiator concentration to 60 × 10?4 mole/liter; then it decreases. The graft yield is medium dependent. A suitable kinetic path has been proposed and the rate equation has been derived.  相似文献

In an attempt to modify fibrous protein, poly(vinyl acetate) has been graft copolymerized onto Himachali wool in an aqueous medium by using Fenton's reagent as redox initiator. Graft copolymerizations were carried out at 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45°C for a period of 3 hr. Percentage grafting was found to be dependent upon reaction temperature, concentration of monomers, and the molar ratio of [H2O2]/[Fe+2]. Maximum grafting occurred at 45°C with a molar ratio of [H2O2]/[Fe+2] = 1.43. A small amount of grafting (2.6–2.8%) occurred when grafting was effected at 45°C in the presence of Fe+2 alone.  相似文献

In an attempt to compare the relative reactivities of different redox systems in graft copolymerization of vinyl monomers onto cellulose, we studied grafting of ethylacrylate (EA) in aqueous medium by using the well-known redox intiator, ferrous ammonium sulfate–potassium persulfate (FAS–KPS) system, and its reactivity was compared with that of Fenton's reagent (Fe2+ ?H2O2) towards grafting of EA onto cellulose. Optimum conditions for affording maximum grafting were evaluated and percent grafting is expressed as functions of different reaction variables. Evidence of grafting was obtained from IR spectroscopic measurements, SEM, and TGA studies of the grafted and ungrafted cellulose. A plausible explanation for the observed reactivity pattern shown by (FAS–KPS) and (FAS–H2O2) redox systems is offered. Fenton's reagent (Fe2+ ?H2O2) was found to be several times more reactive than (FAS–KPS) redox system.  相似文献

The use of hexavalent chromium to initiate graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate onto wool fibers has been investigated. The rate of grafting was determined by varying monomer, chromium(VI), temperature, acidity of the medium, nature of wool, reaction medium, and redox system. The graft yield increases with increasing monomer concentration up to 0.65M, and, with further increase of monomer the graft yield decreases. The graft yield increases with increasing chromium(VI) concentration. The grafting is considerably influenced by chemical modification of wool prior to grafting. The effect of certain inorganic salt and anionic surfactant on the rate of grafting has been investigated. The graft yield is influenced by thiourea concentration; it decreases with increasing thiourea concentration.  相似文献

Methyl acrylate (MA), vinyl acetate (VAc) and their binary mixture (MA + VAc) have been graft copolymerized onto poly(vinyl alcohol) using γ-rays as initiator by mutual radiation method in aqueous medium. The optimum conditions for affording maximum grafting have been evaluated. The percentage of grafting has been determined as a function of total dose, concentrations of poly(vinyl alcohol), MA, VAc, and their binary mixture. Rate of grafting (Rp) and induction period (Ip) have been determined as a function of total initial mixed monomer concentration and concentration of poly(vinyl alcohol). The graft copolymer has been characterized by thermogravimetric method. The effect of donor monomer (vinyl acetate) on percent grafting of acceptor monomer (methyl acrylate) has been explained.  相似文献

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto Himachali wool fiber has been investigated in aqueous medium by using γ irradiation from a 2100 Ci60CO source as means of initiation. Graft copolymerization was carried out by the mutual method in nitrogen atmosphere as well as in air. Effect of mineral acids and acetic acid on percentage of grafting was studied. Percentage of grafting was determined as functions of total dose, concentration of monomer, and concentration of acids. Maximum percentage of grafting in the presence of acids occurred in nitrogen atmosphere at a total dose of 1.05 MR. All the acids were found to influence grafting and the reactivity of different acids towards graft copolymerization was found to follow the order: H2SO4 > HCl > HNO3 > HC1O4 > HOAc. An attempt has been made to explain the reactivity order of different acids in the light of the mechanism proposed for γ-irradiation-induced graft copolymerization of vinyl monomer onto wool fiber.  相似文献

New graft copolymers were produced by grafting benzyloxyethyl methacrylate, the benzyl ether of HEMA, on high-molecular-weight poly(vinyl alcohol) in dimethyl sulfoxide solution with Ce4+ as initiator. The effects of the concentration of the initiator, the concentration of the monomer, the total concentration of the reactants, the temperature, and the duration of reaction on the percentages of grafting and conversion were investigated. Further, also the relationships between the initiator concentration and the percentages of grafting and of conversion in the reaction with poly(vinyl alcohol)s of lower molecular weight and of different degrees of hydrolysis were studied.  相似文献

The graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto wool initiated by ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN)–thioglycolic acid (TGA) redox couple has been studied at 55 ± 0.2°C under atmospheric oxygen. Grafted copolymer was characterized by IR spectroscopy, scanning electron micrographs, and thermogravimetric analysis. Effect of amines, acid, alkali, oxidizing, and reducing agents were determined experimentally. The molecular weights of grafted poly(methyl methacrylate) and homopolymer was also evaluated.  相似文献
