A perturbation analysis is carried out to the second order to give effective equations for Darcy–Brinkman flow through a porous channel with slightly corrugated walls. The flow is either parallel or normal to the corrugations, and the corrugations of the two walls are either in phase or half-period out of phase. The present study is based on the assumptions that the corrugations are periodic sinusoidal waves of small amplitude, and the channel is filled with a sparse porous medium so that the flow can be described by the Darcy–Brinkman model, which approaches the Darcian or Stokes flow limits for small or large permeability of the medium. The Reynolds number is also assumed to be so low that the nonlinear inertia can be ignored. The effects of the corrugations on the flow are examined, quantitatively and qualitatively, as functions of the flow direction, the phase difference, and the wavelength of the corrugations, as well as the permeability of the channel. It is found that the corrugations will have greater effects when it is nearer the Stokes’ flow limit than the Darcian flow limit, and when the wavelength is shorter. For the same wavelength and phase difference, cross flow is more affected than longitudinal flow by the corrugations. Opposite effects can result from 180° out-of-phase corrugations, depending on the flow direction, the wavelength, as well as the permeability.  相似文献

Flow in channels bounded by wavy or corrugated walls is of interest in both technological and geological contexts. This paper presents an analytical solution for the steady Darcy flow of an incompressible fluid through a homogeneous, isotropic porous medium filling a channel bounded by symmetric wavy walls. This packed channel may represent an idealized packed fracture, a situation which is of interest as a potential pathway for the leakage of carbon dioxide from a geological sequestration site. The channel walls change from parallel planes, to small amplitude sine waves, to large amplitude nonsinusoidal waves as certain parameters are increased. The direction of gravity is arbitrary. A plot of piezometric head against distance in the direction of mean flow changes from a straight line for parallel planes to a series of steeply sloping sections in the reaches of small aperture alternating with nearly constant sections in the large aperture bulges. Expressions are given for the stream function, specific discharge, piezometric head, and pressure.  相似文献

We perform energy estimates for a sharp-interface model of two-dimensional, two-phase Darcy flow with surface tension. A proof of well-posedness of the initial value problem follows from these estimates. In general, the time of existence of these solutions will go to zero as the surface tension parameter vanishes. We then make two additional estimates, in the case that a stability condition is satisfied by the initial data: we make an additional energy estimate which is uniform in the surface tension parameter, and we make an estimate for the difference of two solutions with different values of the surface tension parameter. These additional estimates allow the zero surface tension limit to be taken, showing that solutions of the initial value problem in the absence of surface tension are the limit of solutions of the initial value problem with surface tension as surface tension vanishes.  相似文献

Analytical solutions are found for the transient starting flow due to a sudden pressure gradient in cylindrical, rectangular, and parallel plate ducts fill with a Darcy– Brinkman porous medium. It is found that, for all geometries, the initial velocity front is flat. It eventually becomes more parabolic for small porous media parameter s but remains flat for large s. The boundary layer thickness is of order (1/s). The transient is also shorter (proportional to exp(−s 2 t)) for large s.  相似文献

By using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI) we have been able to analyse dispersion at the microscopic scale during steady-state flow through water-saturated glass beads. The flow rate through the porous medium was chosen high enough in order to neglect the influence of molecular diffusion on dispersion. Velocity statistics were measured, by NMRI, within slices of increasing thickness perpendicular to the direction of flow. It took more than two bead diameters before a representative elementary volume (REV) for the mean velocity was reached. This was in a region in the middle of the column that was not influenced by the boundary conditions. There the velocity variance decreased exponentially as a function of the slice thickness, due we consider to the formation of an interconnecting streamline network. The exponential decrease in the velocity variance reflects the transition from a local pattern of stochastic–convective flow to a convective–dispersion regime at the scale of the REV. We found that the point-like preferential influx and efflux boundary condition increased velocity variances and thus enhanced longitudinal hydrodynamic dispersion. Using the transverse correlation length of longitudinal velocity variance, we derived a mean transverse dispersivity that agreed well with Saffmans (1959) model. So we have been able to provide for the first time a direct observation verification of a part of Saffmans (1959) conjectures. By NMRI we observed this value to be independent of the observation scale of the slice thickness.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of a downward viscous film flow on corrugated surfaces is reported. The study is based on Navier–Stokes equations (for one and twodimensional surfaces) and on an integral model (for a threedimensional surface with double corrugation). The calculations were carried out in a wide range of Reynolds numbers and geometric characteristics of the surface with due allowance for the surfacetension force. The shape of the free surface of the liquid film and other characteristics of the flow are calculated. It is shown that, in the case of a onedimensional surface, there exists a range of parameters where the flow is predominantly governed by surfacetension forces; this flow can be adequately treated with the integral approach. In this range of parameters, on the surface with double corrugation, the average quantities of the downward flow in wide corrugation valleys are determined by the finetexture geometry.  相似文献

The present study reports results of a numerical investigation of natural convection in a spherical porous annulus. The inner and outer surfaces are subjected to constant temperatures. The Brinkman extended Darcy flow model is considered in this study. The problem has been solved numerically employing successive accelerated replacement scheme. The effect of parameters like Rayleigh number, Darcy number and radius ratio on the fluid flow and heat transfer has been examined. There exists a critical radius ratio $(\mathrm{rr} = 3)$ at which the average Nusselt number attains a peak value. The average Nusselt number decreases as the Darcy number increases.  相似文献

A two-dimensional numerical model is used to study the nonlinear behavior of density gradients on transverse dispersion. Numerical simulations are conducted using d 3 f, a computer code for simulation of density-dependent flow in porous media. Considering a density-stratified horizontal flow in a heterogeneous porous media, a series of simulations is carried out to examine the effect of the density gradient on macro-scale transverse dispersivity. Changing salt concentration significantly affects fluid properties. This physical behavior of the fluid involves a non-linearity in modeling the interaction between salt and fresh water. It is concluded that the large-scale transport properties for high density flow deviate significantly from the tracer case due to the spatial variation of permeability, described by statistical parameters, at the local-scale. Indeed, the presence of vertical flow velocities induced by permeability variations is responsible for the reduction of the mixing zone width in the steady state in the case of a high density gradient. Uncertainties in the model simulations are studied in terms of discretization errors, boundary conditions, and convergence of ensemble averaging. With respect to the results, the gravity number appears to be the controlling parameter for dispersive flux. In addition, the applicability and limitations of the nonlinear model of Hassanizadeh (1990) and Hassanizadeh and Leijnse (1995) (Adv Water Resour 18(4):203–215, 1995) in heterogeneous porous media are investigated. We found that the main cause of the nonlinear behavior of dispersion, which is the interaction between density contrast and vertical velocity, needs to be explicitly accounted for in a macro-scale model.  相似文献

It is shown that the governing equation for the stream function of the Darcy free convection boundary layer flows past a vertical surface is invariant under arbitrary translations of the transverse coordinate y. The consequences of this basic symmetry property on the solutions corresponding to a prescribed surface temperature distribution T w (x) are investigated. It is found that starting with a “primary solution” which describes the temperature boundary layer on an impermeable surface, infinitely many “translated solutions” can be generated which form a continuous group, the “translation group” of the given primary solution. The elements of this group describe free convection boundary layer flows from permeable counterparts of the original surface with a transformed temperature distribution \({\tilde {T}_w \left( x \right)}\), when simultaneously a suitable lateral suction/injection of the fluid is applied. It turns out in this way that several exact solutions discovered during the latter few decades are in fact not basically new solutions, but translated counterparts of some formerly reported primary solutions. 对槽道纤维悬浮流进行染色线流动显示和流场PIV实验测量,实验中选用的是直径为20μm、长径比为20~100的尼龙纤维。PIV2100处理器被用来加工处理采集的实验数据。槽道长度1.5m,横截面为矩形,尺寸为105×19mm。实验结果说明在Reynolds数相同的情况下,纤维悬浮流比对应的牛顿流更不容易失稳,悬浮流中的纤维起着抑制流场失稳的作用,而且随着纤维体积分数和长径比的增大,抑制失稳的程度也提高。扰动衰减率的最小值随纤维体积分数和长径比的增加而增大,这一效果在大Re数时更明显。  相似文献
