Alternate Test of LNAs Through Ensemble Learning of On-Chip Digital Envelope Signatures

This paper presents a novel and low-cost methodology for testing embedded Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs). It is based on the detection and analysis of the response envelope of the Device Under Test (DUT) to a two-tone input signal. The envelope signal is processed to obtain a digital signature sensitive to key specifications of the DUT. An optimized regression model based on ensemble learning is used to relate the digital signatures to the target specifications. A new Figure of Merit (FOM) is proposed to evaluate the prediction accuracy of the statistical model, and a demonstrator has been developed to prove the feasibility of the approach. This demonstrator features a 2.445 GHz low-power LNA and a simple envelope detector, and has been developed in a 90 nm CMOS technology. Post-layout simulations are provided to verify the functionality of the proposed test technique.     

Dynamic Analog/RF Alternate Test Strategies Based on On-chip Learning

Analog/RF alternate test schemes have been extensively studied in the past decade with the goal of replacing time-consuming and expensive specification tests with low-cost alternate measurements. A common approach in analog/RF alternate test is to build non-linear regression models to map the specification tests to alternate measurements, or to learn a pass/fail separation boundary directly in the space of alternate measurements. Among various challenges that have been discussed in alternate test, the model stationarity is a major bottle-neck that prevents test engineers from deploying it in long-term applications. In this work, we show that alternate test strategies can be implemented on-chip using analog/RF Built-In Self-Test (BIST) circuitry. Moreover, model refinement and dynamic adaptation can be achieved based on an automatic on-chip learning structure. Effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated using experimental results from an RF Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) and its BIST implementation.

Fingerprinting IIoT Devices Through Machine Learning Techniques

From a security perspective, identifying Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices connected to a network has multiple applications such as penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, etc. In this work, we propose a feature-based methodology to perform device-type fingerprinting. A device fingerprint consists of the TCP/IP header features and port-based features extracted from the network traffic of the device. These features are collected by a hybrid mechanism which has a negligible impact on device functionality and can avoid the problem of the long TCP connection. Once the fingerprint of a device is generated, it will be fed to the classifiers based on Gradient Boosting to predict its type details. Based on our proposed method, we implement a prototype application called IIoT Device Type Fingerprinting (IDTF) which capable of automatically identifying the types of devices being connected to an IIoT network. We collect a dataset consisting of 19,174 fingerprints from real-world Internet-facing IIoT devices indexed by Shodan to train and evaluate the classifiers using ten-fold cross-validation. And we conduct comparative experiments in an IIoT testbed to compare the effectiveness of IDTF with two famous fingerprinting tools. The experimental result shows that the ability of our approach is confirmed by a high mean F-Measure of 95.76%. It also demonstrates that IDTF achieves the highest identification rate in the testbed and is non-intrusive for IIoT devices. Compared with existing works, our approach is more generic as it does not rely on a specific protocol or deep packet inspection and can distinguish almost all IIoT device-types.
