We analyzed chemical bonding in low-lying isomers of the recently computationally predicted B(6)H(6)Li(6) molecule. According to our calculations the benzene-like B(6)H(6)Li(6) (D(2h), (1)A(1g)) arachno structure with the planar aromatic B(6)H(6)(6-) anion is the most stable one. A nido isomer with two aromatic B(6)H(6)(4-) (pentagonal pyramid) and Li(3)(+) (triangular) moieties, which can be considered as derived from the global minimum structure through a two-electron intramolecular transfer from B(6)H(6)(6-) to three Li(+) cations, was found to be 10.7 kcal/mol higher in energy. A closo isomer with three aromatic moieties (octahedral B(6)H(6)(2-) and two Li(3)(+)) was found to be 31.3 kcal/mol higher in energy than the global minimum. Another isomer with three aromatic moieties (two B(3)H(3)(2-) and Li(3)(+)) was found to be substantially higher in energy (74.4 kcal/mol). Thus, the intramolecular electron transfers from the highly charged B(6)H(6)(6-) anion to cations are not favorable for the B(6)H(6)Li(6) molecule, even when a formation of three-dimensional aromatic B(6)H(6)(2-) anion and two sigma-aromatic Li(3)(+) cations occurs in the closo isomer.  相似文献

A synthetic methodology using double carbonyl substitution of the starting tricarbonyl complex [3,3,3-(CO)(3)-closo-3,1,2-RuC(2)B(9)H(11)] (1) with 2 mol equiv of the reagent Me(3)NO has been employed to afford ruthenacarborane complexes with chelating N-donor ligands. Three of these complexes, [3-CO-3,3-[kappa(2)-4,4'-R(2)-2,2'-(NC(5)H(3))(2)]-closo-3,1,2-RuC(2)B(9)H(11)] (3a, R = H; 3b, R = (CH(2))(8)Me; 3c, R = Bu(t)), comprise 2,2'-bipyridyl ligands with hydrogen, n-nonyl, or t-butyl groups in the 4,4'-positions of the rings, respectively. Photophysical analysis revealed no substantial luminescent activity, but the complexes are electrochemically active, undergoing sequential (reversible and quasi-reversible) one-electron reductions, the second of which likely precipitating a ligand displacement. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments revealed an irreversible one-electron oxidation (E(pa) approximately 0.9 V) in MeCN, on the other hand, followed by rapid CO substitution by the solvent and reversible secondary reduction (E(1/2) approximately 0.1 V). The primary redox couple became quasi-reversible in CH(2)Cl(2), and spectroelectrochemical analysis of complex 3c provided evidence of a closo --> isocloso structural modification upon oxidation. An analogue of these complexes employing the TMEDA (N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) ligand, [3-CO-3,3-[kappa(2)-Me(2)N(CH(2))(2)NMe(2)]-closo-3,1,2-RuC(2)B(9)H(11)] (4), was synthesized using the same methodology. Cyclic voltammetric measurements displayed a reversible metal-based one-electron oxidation whether in CH(2)Cl(2) or MeCN, with no indication of subsequent CO substitution or a similar closo --> isocloso adjustment. Complex 4 was unexpectedly weakly luminescent (lambda(em) = 360 nm) in THF (tetrahydrofuran) at ambient temperatures, demonstrating a more intense phosphorescent emission in MeTHF (2-methyltetrahydrofuran) glass at 77 K (lambda(em) = 450 nm, tau(450) = 0.77 ms). The X-ray crystallographic structures of complexes 3a and 4 are reported along with spectroscopic IR, NMR ((1)H, (13)C, (11)B), UV-vis absorption, EPR, and CV data.  相似文献

The formally closo twelve-vertex {ortho-M2B10} dimetallaborane system has been predictively tailored for reversible uptake of SO2 across the metal-metal bond, as exemplified by the formation of [(PMe2Ph)2Pt(SO2)Pd(phen)B10H10] from [(PMe2Ph)2PtPd(phen)B10H10].  相似文献

The icosahedral dicarboranes and their decapitated anion, 1-R'-1,2-C(2)B(10)H(10) (closo) and [7-R'-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(10)](-) (nido), exert a distict influence at the alpha position of substituents attached to the cage carbon atom. The closo fragment is electron-withdrawing while the nido anion is electron-releasing. These effects are studied by (31)P NMR, phosphorus oxidation, and phosphorus protonation in [7-PR(2)-8-R'-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(10)](-) species. The (31)P NMR chemical shift dependence is related to the R alkyl or aryl nature of [7-PR(2)-8-R'-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(10)](-). No direct relationship to the nature of the R substituent on the nido-carboranylmonphosphine toward oxidation has been found. The basicity of the nido-alkylcarboranylmonophosphines is the highest while the lowest corresponds to the nido-arylcarboranylmonophosphines. Interpretation can be carried out qualitatively by considering the electronic properties of the cluster and the nature of the R groups. The influence of R' is less relevant. Confirmation of the molecular structure of the oxidated and protonated nido-carboranylmonophosphine compounds was obtained by X-ray diffraction analysis of [NBu(4)][7-P(O)Ph(2)-8-Ph-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(10)] and [7-PH((i)Pr)(2)-8-Me-7,8-C(2)B(9)H(10)].  相似文献

The reaction of alpha,alpha'-bis(3,5-bis(bromomethyl)phenoxy-p-xylene (3) with 4 equiv of the monolithium salt of 1-Ph-1,2-C2B10H11 or 1-Me-1,2-C2B10H11 gave the corresponding neutral carboranyl-functionalized aryl ether derivatives closo-4 and closo-5, respectively. These compounds contain four closo clusters that were degraded using basic conditions with KOH in EtOH, affording the corresponding nido-6 and nido-7 as potassium salts. Nido species were also isolated with tetramethylammonium as cation giving compounds nido-8 and nido-9 in good yield. The potassium salts showed good solubility in water and polar solvents. All these compounds were characterized by 1H, 11B and 13C NMR spectroscopy and UV-vis. The electronic data in different solvents indicated a solvatochromic shift for all compounds and a red shift of the absorption maxima for the nido species with respect to the closo derivatives. These neutral and anionic carboranyl-functionalized aryl ether derivatives represent a new family of high boron content luminescent compounds that show strong fluorescence emission in different solvents at room temperature. This phenomenon is very interesting considering the fact that none of the precursors have such a property. The fluorescence emission depends on the cluster substituent (Ph or Me) and the solvent polarity. Additionally, the fluorescence emission intensity was clearly dependent on the solvent polarity; the closo species showed strongest fluorescence intensities in the non-polar solvents, while anionic species were highly emissive in polar solvents.  相似文献

Oxidation of Cp*Ir((rac-TsDPEN)H (DPEN = H2NCHPhCHPhNTs) with Cp2FePF6 or Ph3CPF6 in MeCN solution generates [Cp*Ir(TsDPEN)(NCMe)]PF6 ([1H(NCMe)]PF6) together with H2 and Ph3CH, respectively. Labeling studies revealed that the Ir-H was abstracted. The formation of a transient electrophilic species is implicated by the formation of a cyclometalated derivative. The labile species [1H(NCMe)]+ was also obtained by protonation of the diamido derivative Cp*Ir(TsDPEN-H) (1) in MeCN solution (BArF4- = B(C6H3-3,5-(CF3)2)4-). The unsaturated, "naked" cation [1H]BArF4 can be prepared by protonation of 1 with H(OEt2)2BArF4 in CH2Cl2 solution or by thermal elimination of MeCN from [1H(NCMe)]+. Crystallographic analysis confirms the structure of this 16e cation in [1H]BArF4. The formally unsaturated species 1 and [1H]BArF4 have strongly contrasting Lewis acidities, with the cation binding PPh3, CO, and NH3. 1 does not measurably bind these same ligands. [1H]BArF4 is reactive toward H2, at least in the absence of inhibiting donor ligands such as MeCN. [1H]BArF4 (CH2Cl2 solutions) catalyzes the addition of H2 to 1 by proton transfer from an apparent dihydrogen complex. This work demonstrates that the protonation activates the Lewis acidity of unsaturated Ir(III) amides, giving rise to novel organometallic Lewis acids.  相似文献

The concept of orbital compatibility is used to explain the relative energies of different macropolyhedral structural patterns such as closocloso, closonido, and nidonido. A large polyhedral borane condenses preferentially with a smaller polyhedron owing to orbital compatibility. Calculations carried out at the B3LYP/6‐31G* level show that the macropolyhedron closo(12)‐closo(6) is the most preferred structural pattern among the face‐sharing closo‐closo systems. The relative stabilities of four‐shared‐atom closocloso, three‐shared‐atom closocloso, three‐shared‐atom closonido, edge‐sharing closonido, and edge‐sharing nidonido structures are in accordance with the difference in the number of vertices of the individual polyhedra of the macropolyhedra. When the difference in the number of vertices of the individual polyhedra is large, the stability of the macropolyhedra is also large. Calculations further show that the orbital compatibility plays an important role in deciding the stability of the macropolyhedral boranes with more than two polyhedral units. The dependence of the orbital compatibility on the relative stability of the macropolyhedron varies with other factors such as inherent stability of the individual polyhedron and steric factors.  相似文献

A new family of photoluminescent neutral and anionic di-carboranyl and tetra-carboranyl derivatives have been synthesized and characterized. The reaction of α,α'-bis(3,5-bis(bromomethyl)phenoxy-m-xylene with 4 equiv. of the monolithium salt of 1-Ph-1,2-C(2)B(10)H(11) or 1-Me-1,2-C(2)B(10)H(11) gives the neutral tetracarboranyl-functionalized aryl ether derivatives closo-1 and closo-2, respectively. The addition of the monolithium salt of 1-Ph-1,2-closo-C(2)B(10)H(11) to α,α,'-dibromo-m-xylene or 2,6-dibromomethyl-pyridine gives the corresponding di-carboranyl derivatives closo-3 and closo-4. These compounds, which contain four or two closo clusters, were degraded using the classical method, KOH in EtOH, affording the corresponding nido species, which were isolated as potassium or tetramethylammonium salts. All the compounds were characterized by IR, (1)H, (11)B and (13)C NMR spectroscopy, and the crystal structure of closo-3 was analysed by X-ray diffraction. The carboranyl fragments are bonded through CH(2) units to different organic moieties, and their influence on the photoluminescent properties of the final molecules has been studied. All the closo- and nido-carborane derivatives exhibit a blue emission under ultraviolet excitation at room temperature in different solvents. The fluorescence properties of these closo and nido-derivatives depend on the substituent (Ph or Me) bonded to the C(cluster), the solvent polarity, and the organic unit bearing the carborane clusters (benzene or pyridine). In the case of nido-derivatives, an important effect of the cation is also observed.  相似文献

The equimolar reaction of 1-SH-2-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10(R=Me, H, Ph) with KOH in ethanol produces the thiolate species [1-S-2-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10]-. These react with iodine to give the disulfide bridged dicluster (1-S-2-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2(R=H, Me, Ph) compounds as analytically pure, white and air-stable solids in high yield. Synthesis of monothioether bridged species is synthetically more difficult. In fact three procedures have been tested to obtain the thioether bridged dicluster compounds (2-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2S (R=Me, H, Ph) but only (2-Me-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2S was successfully synthesized and characterized. Attempts to produce mixed compounds (1-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)S(1-R'-1,2-closo-C2B10H10), R not=R', were unsuccessful. Deboronation reaction of this dicarboranylthioether lead, depending on the reaction conditions, to monoanionic [(2-Me-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)S(8-Me-7,8-nido-C2B9H10)]- or dianionic [(8-Me-7,8-nido-C2B9H10)2S]2- sulfur bridge anions. Deboronation of carboranyl disulfides gave the corresponding dianionic [(7-S-8-R-7,8-nido-C2B9H10)2]2-(R=H, Me, Ph) species. This reaction was very dependent, however, on the reaction conditions. With slight variation of the reaction conditions, splitting of the S-S bond leading to the thiolate species with retention of the closo cluster was also found. Carboranyl disulfides (1-S-2-R-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2(R=H, Me, Ph) do not lead to thiosulfinates R-S(O)-S-R' by oxidation with H2O2 or I2 as organic disulfides do. This behaviour is attributed to the presence of the sulfur atom directly bonded to the carbon cluster that produces electronic transfer from the filled orbitals on the sulfur atom into the cage LUMO (largely located on the cage Cc-Cc bond). This causes a depletion of electron density on the sulfur, thence impairing sulfur oxidation, and facilitating S-S breaking. Crystal structures of monothioethers (2-Me-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2S, [NMe4][(2-Me-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)S(8-Me-7,8-nido-C2B9H10)](the first example reported in the literature of a two cluster compound incorporating the closo C2B10 and the nido[C2B9]- moieties linked by a one member spacer) and disulfides (1-S-1,2-closo-C2B10H11)2, (1-S-2-Me-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2, (1-S-2-Ph-1,2-closo-C2B10H10)2 are reported which support the behaviour of these species.  相似文献

The halogenated compounds of twelve‐vertex closo‐1‐ZB11H11(Z=O, S, Se; X=F, Cl, Br) have unusual stability. The structures of halogenated isomers obtained by DFT method indicate that the halogen atoms are more likely to attack the meta vertexes. The chemical thermodynamic properties show that the halogenations are spontaneous and exothermic. The result that both the optimized and experimental cages of closo‐thiaborane have not changed after chlorination indicates that the substitution of a chlorine atom for a hydrogen atom of closo‐thiaborane happens at outer of the cage. The calculated electronic structures show that the three‐dimensioned aromaticity of cage would like positive chlorine atoms to attack. The halogenations by elemental halogen in the presence of metal halides were proved to belong to the electrophilic substitutions and the mechanism was discussed in details. The suggested transition state interpreted the experiments. The thermal rearrangement which was supposed early according to experiments was verified by the thermodynamic properties of chlorination theoretically. The IR and 11B/1H NMR isotropic chemical shifts were calculated and compared with the experimental data to reconfirm the structures of chlorinated closo‐thiaborane. Furthermore, the predictions on the halogenated closo‐oxaborane and closo‐selenaborane are significant for the syntheses.  相似文献

Two new fluorescent chemosensors for metal ions have been synthesized and characterized, and their photophysical properties have been explored; they are the macrocycles 5-(2-quinolinylmethyl)-2,8-dithia-5-aza-2,6-pyridinophane (L5) and 5-(5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinolinylmethyl)-2,8-dithia-5-aza-2,6-pyridinophane (L6). Both systems have a pyridyl-thioether-containing 12-membered macrocycle as a binding site. The coordination properties of these two ligands toward CuII, ZnII, CdII, HgII, and PbII have been studied in MeCN/H2O (1:1 v/v) and MeCN solutions and in the solid state. The stoichiometry of the species formed at 25 degrees C have been determined from absorption, fluorescence, and potentiometric titrations. The complexes [CuL5](ClO4)(2).1/2MeCN, [ZnL5(H2O)](ClO4)2, [HgL5(MeCN)](ClO4)2, [PbL5(ClO4)2], [Cu3(5-Cl-8-HDQH-1)(L6H-1)2](ClO4)(3).7.5H2O (HDQ=hydroxyquinoline), and [Cu(L6)2](BF4)(2).2MeNO2 have also been characterized by X-ray crystallography. A specific CHEF-type response of L5 and L6 to the presence of ZnII and CdII, respectively, has been observed at about pH 7.0 in MeCN/H2O (1:1 v/v) solutions.  相似文献

Four heterometallic, enneanuclear Mn8Ce clusters [Mn8CeO8(O2CMe)12(H2O)4] (4), [Mn8CeO8(O2CMe)12(py)4] (5), [Mn8CeO8(O2CPh)12(MeCN)4] [Mn8CeO8(O2CPh)12(dioxane)4] (6), and [Mn8CeO8(O2CCHPh2)12(H2O)4] (7) have been prepared by various methods. Their cores are essentially isostructural and comprise a nonplanar, saddlelike [MnIII8O8]8+ loop containing a central CeIV ion attached to the eight micro3-O2- ions. Peripheral ligation around the [Mn8CeO8]12+ core is provided by eight micro- and four micro3-O2CR- groups. Terminal ligation on four MnIII atoms is provided by H2O in 4 and 7, pyridine in 5, and MeCN/dioxane in 6. Solid-state magnetic susceptibility studies, fits of dc magnetization vs field and temperature data, and in-phase ac susceptibility studies in a zero dc field have established that complexes 4, 5, and 7 possess S=16, S=4 or 5, and S=6+/-1 spin ground states, respectively, but in all cases there are very low-lying excited states. The large variation in the ground-state spins for this isostructural family is rationalized as due to a combination of weak exchange interactions between the constituent MnIII atoms, and the presence of both nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-interactions of comparable magnitudes. Magnetization vs applied dc field sweeps on single crystals of 4.4H2O and 7.4H2O.3MeCN.2CH2Cl2 down to 0.04 K have established that these two complexes are new single-molecule magnets (SMMs). The former also shows an exchange-bias, a perturbation of its single-molecule properties from very weak intermolecular interactions mediated by hydrogen-bonding interactions with lattice-water molecules of crystallization.  相似文献

A room-temperature reaction between the [7-tBuNH-nido-7,8,9-C3B8H10]- anion (1a) and [Cp*RuCl]4 leads to the ruthenatricarbollide [1-Cp*-12-tBuNH-1,2,4,12-RuC3B8H10] (2) (yield 85%). Analogously, the room-temperature photochemical reaction of 1a with [CpFe(C6H6)]PF6 gives the previously reported iron complex [1-Cp-12-tBuNH-1,2,4,12-FeC3B8H10] (3) (yield 82%). Both reactions are associated with extensive polyhedral rearrangement, which occurs under very mild conditions and brings the carbon atoms to positions of maximum separation within the framework. Compounds 2 and 3 were also surprisingly obtained via complexation of the isomeric [8-tBuNH-nido-7,8,9-C3B8H10]- (1b) anion. Complex 2 rearranges further to [1-Cp*-10-tBuNH-1,2,4,10-RuC3B8H10] (4) upon refluxing in xylene (145 degrees C). Density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP/SDD level were used to estimate relative stabilities of these metallacarborane isomers. Compounds 2 and 4, along with the 11-vertex closo compounds [1-Cp*-1,2,3,10-RuC3B7H10] (5) and [1-Cp*-10-tBuNH-1,2,3,10-RuC3B7H9] (6), were also isolated from the reaction between [Cp*RuCl2]2 and 1a in boiling xylene. The structure of 2 was established by an X-ray diffraction study, and the constitution of all compounds was determined unambiguously by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analyses.  相似文献

Reactions of the [K]+ salts of the [nido-7,9-C2B9H12]- anion (2) and its C-phenylated derivative [7-Ph-nido-7,9-C2B9H11]- (4) with [OsCl2(PPh3)3] (3) proceed in benzene at ambient temperature with the formation of 16-electron chlorohydrido-Os(IV) exo-nido complexes, [exo-nido-10,11-{(Ph3P)2OsHCl}-10,11-(mu-H)2-7-R-7,9-C2B9H8] (5: R = H; 6: R = Ph), along with the small amounts of the charge-compensated nido-carboranes [nido-7,9-C2B9H11PPh3] (7) and [7-Ph-nido-7,9-C2B9H10PPh3] (8) as byproducts. However, when carried out under mild heating in ethanol, the reaction of 2 with 3 selectively afforded a 16-electron dihydrido-Os(IV) exo-nido complex [exo-nido-10,11-{(Ph3P)2OsH2}-10,11-(mu-H)2-7,9-C2B9H9] (9). Structures of both complexes 5 and 9 have been confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, which revealed that nido-carboranes in these species function as a bidentate dicarbollide ligands [7-R-nido-7,9-C2B9H10]2- linked to the Os(IV) center via two B-H...Os bonds involving adjacent B-H vertices in the upper CBCBB belt of the carborane cage. Thus, compounds 5 and 9 represent the first structurally characterized exo-nido-metallacarboranes based on meta-dicarbollide-type ligands. Variable-temperature 1H and 31P{1H} NMR experiments indicate that complex 9 is fluxional in solution and shows an unusual exchange between terminal Os-(H)2 and bridging {B-H}2...Os hydrogen atoms. Upon heating in d8-THF at 65 degrees C, complex 9 converts irreversibly to its closo isomer [2,2-(PPh3)2-2,2-H2-closo-2,1,7-OsC2B9H11] (13), which could thus be obtained as a pure crystalline solid. The structure of 13 has been established on the basis of analytical and multinuclear NMR data and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study.  相似文献

Fehlner, Ghosh, and their co-workers have synthesized a series of dirhenaboranes Cp(2)Re(2)B(n-2)H(n-2) (n = 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) exhibiting unprecedented oblate (flattened) deltahedral structures. These structures have degree 6 and/or 7 rhenium vertices at the flattest regions on opposite sides of an axially compressed deltahedron thereby leading to Re═Re distances in the range 2.69 to 2.94 ? suggesting internal formal double bonds. These experimental oblate (flattened) deltahedral structures are shown by density functional theory to be the lowest energy structures for these dirhenaboranes. In some cases the energy differences between such oblate deltahedral structures and the next higher energy structures are quite considerable, that is, up to 25 kcal/mol for the nine-vertex Cp(2)Re(2)B(7)H(7) structures. The higher energy Cp(2)Re(2)B(n-2)H(n-2) structures are of the two types: (1) Most spherical (closo) deltahedra having unusually short 2.28 to 2.39 ? Re-Re edges with unusually high Wiberg bond indices suggesting formal multiple bonds on the deltahedral surface; (2) Deltahedra having one or two degree 3 vertices and 2.6 to 2.9 ? Re-Re edges. The latter deltahedra are derived from smaller deltahedra by capping Re(2)B faces with the degree 3 vertices.  相似文献

Chromium and ruthenium complexes of the chelating phosphine borane H(3)B.dppm are reported. Addition of H(3)B.dppm to [Cr(CO)(4)(nbd)](nbd = norbornadiene) affords [Cr(CO)(4)(eta1-H(3)B.dppm)] in which the borane is linked to the metal through a single B-H-Cr interaction. Addition of H(3)B.dppm to [CpRu(PR(3))(NCMe)(2)](+)(Cp =eta5)-C(5)H(5)) results in [CpRu(PR(3))(eta1-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)](R = Me, OMe) which also show a single B-H-Ru interaction. Reaction with [CpRu(NCMe)(3)](+) only resulted in a mixture of products. In contrast, with [Cp*Ru(NCMe)(3)](+)(Cp*=eta5)-C(5)Me(5)) a single product is isolated in high yield: [Cp*Ru(eta2-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)]. This complex shows two B-H-Ru interactions. Reaction with L = PMe(3) or CO breaks one of these and the complexes [Cp*Ru(L)(eta1-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)] are formed in good yield. With L = MeCN an equilibrium is established between [Cp*Ru(eta2-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)] and the acetonitrile adduct. [Cp*Ru (eta2-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)] can be considered as being "operationally unsaturated", effectively acting as a source of 16-electron [Cp*Ru (eta1-H(3)B.dppm)][PF(6)]. All the new compounds (apart from the CO and MeCN adducts) have been characterised by X-ray crystallography. The solid-state structure of H(3)B.dppm is also reported.  相似文献
