Single crystals of an organic nonlinear optical material γ-glycine have been synthesized by slow evaporation technique from aqueous solutions of α-glycine and potassium bromide at room temperature. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the growth of γ phase of glycine. The powder X-ray diffraction of the grown crystal was recorded and indexed. Functional groups present in the sample were identified by FTIR spectral analysis. The optical absorption studies show that the UV cut-off wavelength of γ-glycine is at 238 nm and has a wide transparency window. The thermal characteristics of the grown crystal were determined by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), which show the thermal stability of the grown crystals. The powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of γ-glycine crystals was measured by Kurtz and Perry powder technique using Nd:YAG laser and it was found to be 2.56 times that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystals.  相似文献

Herein, we describe the growth and morphology of well-defined dyed crystals of KH2PO4 (potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate; KDP) containing organic azo (sunset yellow; SSY) dye in the {1 0 1} & {0 0 1} pyramidal growth sectors. An understanding on selective dye inclusion in various growth sector of host crystal is proposed, which will help in designing novel tailor-made dyed photonic crystals. The structural analysis and the identification of various functional groups present in as grown KDP crystals were carried out using powder XRD, FTIR and Raman studies. Solid state transmittance spectra for dyed KDP crystals displayed three absorption peaks at 230 nm, 311 nm and 477 nm, which were blue shifted for SSY dye in KDP crystal relative to neutral aqueous solution of SSY dye. These blue shifts in the absorption maxima confirm the successful incorporation of sunset yellow dye into the pyramidal growth sectors of dyed KDP crystals. The band around 409 nm in the photoluminescence emission spectrum indicates a violet emission. SSY dye doped KDP crystals showed enhanced dielectric properties and thermal stability as compared to pure KDP crystal. The mechanical strength of the KDP crystals estimated using Vickers microhardness test was found to decrease with the increase in SSY dye doping.  相似文献

Single crystals of pure and xylenol orange (XO; C31H32N2O13S) dye doped (0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 mol%) ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP; NH4H2PO4) were grown by slow evaporation method with the vision to improve the properties of pure ammonium dihydrogen phosphate crystal. The theoretical morphology of the grown crystals was drawn using Bravais–Friedel–Donnay–Harker (BFDH) law. The selective nature of xylenol orange dye to selectively stain the particular growth sectors of ADP crystal was studied. The structural analysis of as grown crystals was carried out using powder XRD study. The identification of the functional groups present in the ADP material was done using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The linear optical study on pure and dye doped crystals was carried out using UV–vis–NIR spectroscopy. The optical band gap, extinction coefficient, refractive index and optical conductivity were calculated using the transmittance spectra for all the samples. In photoluminescence studies, the blue emission intensity got quenched and an orange emission at 597 nm was seen as a result of XO doping. The thermal stability and decomposition temperature of ADP crystal were found to decrease as an effect of dye doping. The piezoelectric charge coefficient, SHG conversion efficiency, mechanical strength and wettability were also enhanced as a result of XO dye doping.  相似文献

Potassium acid phthalate (KAP) which is also known as potassium hydrogen phthalate (KC8H5O4), a semi-organic compound was grown from its aqueous solution only by slow evaporation method at room temperature. The effect of metallic salts HgCl2 and PbCl2 as dopants in the growth aspects, thermal properties and SHG efficiency of KAP were determined using UV-VIS, FTIR spectral studies, thermal (TG and DTA) analysis and NLO test. There is only one significant mass loss step on TG curve of pure and doped KAP crystal. DTA curve exhibit a higher peak temperature in case of doped KAP crystal compared to those of pure KAP crystals.  相似文献

In this study, calcium cadmium tartrate single crystals were grown in silica gel at ambient temperature. Effects of various parameters like gel pH, gel aging, gel density, and concentration of reactants on the growth of these crystals were studied. Crystals having different morphologies and habits were obtained. Transparent, diamond-like pyramidal-shaped crystals of calcium cadmium tartrate were obtained. Some of the crystals obtained were faint yellowish, with some milky white crystals being attched to them due to fast growth rate; faces are well developed and polished. The grown crystals were characterized by thermoanalytic techniques (TG, DTA, and DTG), and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystal system is confirmed to be orthorhombic having lattice parameters a = 7.9411 Å, b = 7.0396 Å, and c = 6.7271 Å as determined by powder XRD analysis. TG, DTA, and DTG analyses show a remarkable thermal stability. The results of these observations are described and discussed.  相似文献

1,10-Phenanthroline (Phen) as a new additive was added into the solutions of KH2PO4 (KDP) and NH4H2PO4 (ADP) in a small amount (∼2.5·10−3 M L−1). The crystals were grown from the aqueous solutions of pH ∼4.5 at constant temperature by solvent evaporation technique. It leads to an increase in metastable zone width and assists the bulk growth process. The growth rate of crystals in the presence of Phen decreases considerably with an increase in impurity concentration (∼2.5·10−2 M L−1). Not much variation is observed in FTIR and XRD of pure and doped ADP/KDP. It appears that the growth promoting effect (GPE) of Phen is caused by the adsorption of the organic additive on the prism faces of ADP/KDP crystals. Higher optical transmittance is observed in the presence of the dopant. Detailed microhardness studies of ADP crystals reveal the anisotropy in the hardness behaviour. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs exhibit the effectiveness of the impurity in changing the surface morphology of ADP/KDP crystals. Contrary to expectations, Phen depresses the NLO efficiency of ADP/KDP, suggesting that the molecular alignments in the presence of Phen results in cancellation effects disturbing the non-linearity.  相似文献

The single crystals of pure and zinc chloride-doped l-alanine cadmium chloride (LACC), an organometallic nonlinear optical material, are grown by a slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were subjected to X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopic study, and energy-dispersive analysis by X-ray and thermal studies. The second harmonic generation was confirmed by the Kurtz and Perry powder technique. The dielectric measurements were carried out for different frequencies at different temperatures. The second harmonic efficiency and dielectric constant increases significantly due to introduction of smaller ionic radii Zn2+ ion into the lattice of pure LACC crystal; so that the zinc chloride-doped LACC crystals are found to be potential material for nonlinear frequency conversion.  相似文献

Nanostructures TiO2–SiO2 photocatalysts were successfully synthesized using the sol-gel method, hydro-calcination, co-precipitation and room-temperature solid-phase synthesis technology. X-ray powder diffraction pattern (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR), photoluminescence (PL) spectra, thermal analyses (TG–DTA), scanning electron micrographs (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS) were used to characterize the as-synthesized catalysts. Photocatalytic performances of the catalysts were evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under s imulated natural light and the degradation rate of MO is 97.2%. The composites showed a good stability: after five recycling runs there are no significant decreases in the photocatalytic activity. The photodegradation of methylene blue, rhodamine B, methyl violet, naphthol green B, basic fuchsin, malachite green, and methyl red were also tested, and the degradation rate of dyes could reach over 94.2 %. A possible mechanism for the photocatalysis with the TiO2–SiO2 was proposed.  相似文献

Phosphoric acid admixtured L-alanine (PLA) single crystals were grown successfully by solution method with slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Crystals of size 18 mm×12 mm×8 mm have been obtained in 28 days. The grown crystals were colorless and transparent. The solubility of the grown samples has been found out at various temperatures. The lattice parameters of the grown crystals were determined by X-ray diffraction technique. The reflection planes of the sample were confirmed by the powder X-ray diffraction study and diffraction peaks were indexed. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies were used to confirm the presence of various functional groups in the crystals. UV-visible transmittance spectrum was recorded to study the optical transparency of grown crystal. The nonlinear optical (NLO) property of the grown crystal was confirmed by Kurtz-Perry powder technique and a study of its second harmonic generation efficiency in comparison with potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) has been made. The mechanical strength of the crystal was estimated by Vickers hardness test. The grown crystals were subjected to thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA). The Pb(IO3)2 crystals have been grown in sodium meta silicate gel using the single diffusion method at room temperature. The grown crystals were characterized by thermo analytical techniques (TG, DTA, and DTG), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and FTIR spectroscopy. The crystal system is confirmed to be orthorhombic having lattice parameters a = 6.09 Å, b = 16.68 Å, and c = 5.58 Å by powder X-ray diffraction analysis. FTIR study reveals that lead iodate crystal is anhydrous. TG, DTA, and DTG analysis shows a remarkable thermal stability.  相似文献

A new nonlinear optical crystal urea thiourea cadmium sulfate (UTCS) has been grown by slow evaporation technique in equimolar ratio. The grown crystals were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis which reveals that sample crystallizes in triclinic system with non-centrosymmetric space group P1. The powder XRD pattern revealed the formation of UTCS compound. High-resolution-X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out to study the crystalline perfection of the sample. Functional groups of the grown crystal were identified by FT-IR studies. Thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analyses were employed to understand the thermal and physio-chemical stability of the synthesized compound. UV–Vis–NIR spectrum revealed the transmission properties of the crystal specimen. The SHG efficiency has been tested by the Kurtz powder technique using Nd: YAG laser and found to be about 0.82 times in comparison with standard KDP crystals.  相似文献

Single crystals of bis (glycine) lithium molybdate [BGLM] with dimensions 20 mm × 10 mm × 5 mm were grown by slow evaporation technique. Transmission range of the crystal was determined by UV–vis–NIR spectra. Vickers microhardness test was performed on the prominent plane (0 1 1) of the grown crystal. The effect of nitric acid (HNO3) addition on the growth of triglycine sulphate (TGS) crystal has been studied from the aqueous solution for various concentrations of nitric acid. Significant changes in the crystal size and morphology have been observed in all the grown samples. Single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses confirm the structure and cell parameter values of pure and HNO3 doped TGS crystals. FT-Raman and FTIR spectra confirm the characteristics absorption bands of pure and HNO3 doped TGS crystals. The composition of TGS crystals have been confirmed by CHNS analysis. Physical properties such as thermal, dielectric and mechanical studies have been performed for the pure and HNO3 doped TGS crystals. The dielectric constants of the crystals have been studied as a function of frequency. The results suggest that the HNO3 is doped into TGS crystal and that the doping increases its dielectric constant.  相似文献

Single crystals of gamma-glycine were grown from a mixture of glycine, water and lithium bromide. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the growth of gamma-glycine phase. Presence of various functional groups of gamma-glycine was identified by FTIR spectrum. Optical absorbance spectrum recorded in the wavelength range of UV-vis-NIR revealed that this crystal has good optical transparency in the range 250-1500 nm. Vickers microhardness values were estimated on the prominent (100) face. Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses were carried out to study the thermal properties of gamma-glycine. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal measured by Kurtz's powder method using Nd:YAG laser is about three times that of KDP.  相似文献

Pyrimidines and its derivatives find different pharmaceutical applications. The n-butyl 4-(3,4 dimethoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-2-thioxo-1,2,3,4 tetrahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate (abbreviated as n-butyl THPM) was synthesized. The n-butyl THPM crystals were grown by slow solvent evaporation technique using chloroform as a solvent. Yellowish, coagulated, and semi-transparent crystals having dimensions of 2 × 1.5 mm were grown. The crystals were characterized by powder XRD, FT–IR, SEM, TG–DTA–DSC, 1H-NMR, and dielectric study. The crystals remained stable up to 150 °C and then started decomposing. The DSC suggested both endothermic and exothermic reactions. One broad exothermic peak was observed at 540.3 °C due to complete decomposition of the sample into the gaseous phase and reaction within the products. 1H-NMR spectrum has been carried out to explain the molecular structure. The dielectric study was carried out in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 5 MHz at room temperature. The dielectric constant decreased as the frequency of the applied field increased. The variations of dielectric loss, a.c. conductivity, and a.c. resistivity were also studied with the frequency of the applied field.  相似文献

This study focuses on the green synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles using the marine algae extract, Sargassum horneri, as well as the degradation of organic dyes using biosynthesized nanoparticles as catalysts. The phytochemicals of the brown algae Sargassum horneri acted as reducing and capping agents for nanoparticle synthesis. Ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the biosynthesized nanoparticles. The green-synthesized SH-AgNPs and SH-AuNPs exhibited high catalytic activity for degradation of organic dyes, such as methylene blue, rhodamine B, and methyl orange. The reduction reactions of dyes are based on pseudo-first-order kinetics.  相似文献

Single crystal of 2-[2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-vinyl]-1-methylstilbazolium iodide (4MESI) was grown by the slow evaporation method. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals the formation of the title crystal. The density of the grown crystals was measured, and it was compared with theoretically calculated value. The FTIR and powder XRD of 4MESI were performed at room temperature. The different types of proton present in the crystal structure have been confirmed by NMR spectroscopic study. UV–Vis–NIR spectral studies reveal that 4MESI crystals are good optical transparency in the entire visible region. The photoluminescence spectrum of 4MESI shows violet and blue emission. Thermal stability and behavior of the grown crystal have been investigated by TG and DTG analysis. It shows that the grown crystal has melting point at 243 °C. Mechanical hardness of the grown crystals was estimated by Vickers microhardness tester. The grown crystals were also characterized by chemical etching and dielectric studies, and the results are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Organic NLO material of 2-Aminopyridinium 4-methylbenzoate Dihydrate (2A4M) was synthesized using 2-Aminopyridinium and 4-methylbenzoic acid as starting materials. Single crystals of 2A4M were grown by the slow evaporation solution growth technique at room temperature using water as a solvent. The grown crystal was characterized by single crystal XRD to confirm the crystal system and lattice parameters. From the optical studies the optical band gap and the refractive index of the material are found to be 2.9 eV and 1.40 at 1200 nm. Functional groups of the crystallised material were confirmed by FTIR vibrational spectrum. Thermal behaviour of the title compound was studied using thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). The initial weight loss is found up to 125°C, which corresponds to 13.2% i.e. presence of 2 mole of water in the lattice. The grown crystal was subjected to Vickers hardness test and the brittleness index, fracture toughness, yield strength were estimated. The etching studies reveal the growth pattern and dislocations present in the grown crystal. The second harmonic generation (SHG) behaviour of 2A4M was tested by Kurtz-Perry powder technique. The relative SHG efficiency of 2A4M is found to be 3.03 times that of the reference material KDP.  相似文献
