In this paper, the dynamics of a generalized two-neuron model with self-connections and distributed delays are investigated, together with the stability of the equilibrium. In particular, the conditions under which the Hopf bifurcation occurs at the equilibrium are obtained for the weak kernel. This means that a family of periodic solutions bifurcates from the equilibrium when the bifurcation parameter exceeds a critical value. Explicit algorithms for determining the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions and the direction of the Hopf bifurcation are derived by using the theory of normal form and center manifold [20]. Some numerical simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the results found. The obtained results are new and they complement previously known results. This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 60574043 and 60373067, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, China under Grants BK2003053. 相似文献

The Hopfbifurcation for the Brusselator ordinary-differential-equation (ODE) model and the corresponding partial-differential-equation (PDE) model are investigated by using the Hopf bifurcation theorem. The stability of the Hopf bifurcation periodic solution is discussed by applying the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. When parameters satisfy some conditions, the spatial homogenous equilibrium solution and the spatial homogenous periodic solution become unstable. Our results show that if parameters are properly chosen, Hopf bifurcation does not occur for the ODE system, but occurs for the PDE system. 相似文献

A general theory for the study of degenerate Hopf bifurcation in the presence of symmetry has been carried out only in situations where the normal form equations decouple into phase/amplitude equations. In this paper we prove a theorem showing that in general we expect such degeneracies to lead to secondary torus bifurcations. We then apply this theorem to the case of degenerate Hopf bifurcation with triangular (D3) symmetry, proving that in codimension two there exist regions of parameter space where two branches of asymptotically stable 2-tori coexist but where no stable periodic solutions are present. Although this study does not lead to a theory for degenerate Hopf bifurcations in the presence of symmetry, it does present examples that would have to be accounted for by any such general theory. 相似文献

This paper investigates the dynamics of a TCP system described by a first- order nonlinear delay differential equation. By analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation, it is shown that a Hopf bifurcation sequence occurs at the pos- itive equilibrium as the delay passes through a sequence of critical values. The explicit algorithms for determining the Hopf bifurcation direction and the stability of the bifur- cating periodic solutions are derived with the normal form theory and the center manifold theory. The global existence of periodic solutions is also established with the method of Wu (Wu, J. H. Symmetric functional differential equations and neural networks with memory. Transactions of the American Mathematical Society 350(12), 4799-4838 (1998)). 相似文献

A kind of 2-dimensional neural network model with delay is considered. By analyzing the distribution of the roots of the characteristic
equation associated with the model, a bifurcation diagram was drawn in an appropriate parameter plane. It is found that a
line is a pitchfork bifurcation curve. Further more, the stability of each fixed point and existence of Hopf bifurcation were
obtained. Finally, the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions were determined
by using the normal form method and centre manifold theory.

The dynamic behavior close to a non-resonant double Hopf bifurcation is analyzed via a frequency-domain technique. Approximate expressions of the periodic solutions are computed using the higher order harmonic balance method while their accuracy and stability have been evaluated through the calculation of the multipliers of the monodromy matrix. Furthermore, the detection of secondary Hopf or torus bifurcations (Neimark–Sacker bifurcation for maps) close to the analyzed singularity has been obtained for a coupled electrical oscillatory circuit. Then, quasi-periodic solutions are likely to exist in certain regions of the parameter space. Extending this analysis to the unfolding of the 1:1 resonant double Hopf bifurcation, cyclic fold and torus bifurcations have also been detected in a controlled oscillatory coupled electrical circuit. The comparison of the results obtained with the suggested technique, and with continuation software packages, has been included. 相似文献

A second-order delay differential equation (DDE) which models certain mechanical and neuromechanical regulatory systems is analyzed. We show that there are points in parameter space for which 1:2 resonant Hopf–Hopf interaction occurs at a steady state of the system. Using a singularity theoretic classification scheme [as presented by LeBlanc (1995) and LeBlanc and Langford (1996)], we then give the bifurcation diagrams for periodic solutions in two cases: variation of the delay and variation of the feedback gain near the resonance point. In both cases, period-doubling bifurcations of periodic solutions occur, and it is argued that two tori can bifurcate from these periodic solutions near the period doubling point. These results are then compared to numerical simulations of the DDE. 相似文献

We consider a delay equation whose delay is perturbed by a small periodic fluctuation. In particular, it is assumed that the delay equation exhibits a Hopf bifurcation when its delay is unperturbed. The periodically perturbed system exhibits more delicate bifurcations than a Hopf bifurcation. We show that these bifurcations are well explained by the Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation when the ratio between the frequencies of the periodic solution of the unperturbed system (Hopf bifurcation) and the external periodic perturbation is 1:2. Our analysis is based on center manifold reduction theory. 相似文献

The Hopf bifurcations of an airfoil flutter system with a cubic nonlinearity are investigated, with the flow speed as the bifurcation parameter. The center manifold theory and complex normal form method are Used to obtain the bifurcation equation. Interestingly, for a certain linear pitching stiffness the Hopf bifurcation is both supercritical and subcritical. It is found, mathematically, this is caused by the fact that one coefficient in the bifurcation equation does not contain the first power of the bifurcation parameter. The solutions of the bifurcation equation are validated by the equivalent linearization method and incremental harmonic balance method. 相似文献

The general Brusselator system is considered under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. The existence results of the Hopf
bifurcation to the ordinary differential equation (ODE) and partial differential equation (PDE) models are obtained. By the
center manifold theory and the normal form method, the bifurcation direction and stability of periodic solutions are established.
Moreover, some numerical simulations are shown to support the analytical results. At the same time, the positive steady-state
solutions and spatially inhomogeneous periodic solutions are graphically shown to supplement the analytical results. 相似文献

This paper presents a detailed analysis on the dynamics of a delayed oscillator with negative damping and delayed feedback
control. Firstly, a linear stability analysis for the trivial equilibrium is given. Then, the direction of Hopf bifurcation
and stability of periodic solutions bifurcating from trivial equilibrium are determined by using the normal form theory and
center manifold theorem. It shows that with properly chosen delay and gain in the delayed feedback path, this controlled delayed
system may have stable equilibrium, or periodic solutions, or quasi-periodic solutions, or coexisting stable solutions. In
addition, the controlled system may exhibit period-doubling bifurcation which eventually leads to chaos. Finally, some new
interesting phenomena, such as the coexistence of periodic orbits and chaotic attractors, have been observed. The results
indicate that delayed feedback control can make systems with state delay produce more complicated dynamics. 相似文献

Hopf Bifurcation and Stability of Periodic Solutions for van der Pol Equation with Distributed Delay 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The van der Pol equation with a distributed time delay is analyzed. Itslinear stability is investigated by employing the Routh–Hurwitzcriteria. Moreover, the local asymptotic stability conditions are alsoderived. By using the mean time delay as a bifurcation parameter, themodel is found to undergo a sequence of Hopf bifurcations. The directionand the stability criteria of the bifurcating periodic solutions areobtained by the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. Somenumerical simulation examples for justifying the theoretical analysisare also given. 相似文献

We study motions near a Hopf bifurcation of a representative nonconservative four-dimensional autonomous system with quadratic nonlinearities. Special cases of the four-dimensional system represent the envelope equations that govern the amplitudes and phases of the modes of an internally resonant structure subjected to resonant excitations. Using the method of multiple scales, we reduce the Hopf bifurcation problem to two differential equations for the amplitude and phase of the bifurcating cyclic solutions. Constant solutions of these equations provide asymptotic expansions for the frequency and amplitude of the bifurcating limit cycle. The stability of the constant solutions determines the nature of the bifurcation (i.e., subcritical or supercritical). For different choices of the control parameter, the range of validity of the analytical approximation is ascertained using numerical simulations. The perturbation analysis and discussions are also pertinent to other autonomous systems.

The trivial equilibrium of a two-degree-of-freedom autonomous system may become unstable via a Hopf bifurcation of multiplicity two and give rise to oscillatory bifurcating solutions, due to presence of a time delay in the linear and nonlinear terms. The effect of external excitations on the dynamic behaviour of the corresponding non-autonomous system, after the Hopf bifurcation, is investigated based on the behaviour of solutions to the four-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations. The interaction between the Hopf bifurcating solutions and the high level excitations may induce a non-resonant or secondary resonance response, depending on the ratio of the frequency of bifurcating periodic motion to the frequency of external excitation. The first-order approximate periodic solutions for the non-resonant and super-harmonic resonance response are found to be in good agreement with those obtained by direct numerical integration of the delay differential equation. It is found that the non-resonant response may be either periodic or quasi-periodic. It is shown that the super-harmonic resonance response may exhibit periodic and quasi-periodic motions as well as a co-existence of two or three stable motions. 相似文献
