In this paper we analyze the non symmetric pressure/displacement formulation of the elastoacoustic vibration problem and show its equivalence with the (symmetric) stiffness coupling formulation. We introduce discretizations for these problems based on Lagrangian finite elements. We show that both formulations are also equivalent at discrete level and prove optimal error estimates for eigenfunctions and eigenvalues. Both formulations are rewritten such as to be solved with a standard Matlab eigensolver. We report numerical results comparing the efficiency of the methods over some test examples. In this paper we prove an integral inequality for the Gaussian curvature of compact maximal surfaces inn-dimensional de Sitter space. We consider a Markov chain that describes the evolution of two interacting strings of symbols. The transitions probalitities of this Markov chain depend only on the rightmost symbols of both strings. This paper deals with finite element methods for the numerical solution of the eddy current problem in a bounded conducting domain crossed by an electric current, subjected to boundary conditions involving only data easily available in applications. Two different cases are considered depending on the boundary data: input current intensities or differences of potential. Weak formulations in terms of the electric field are given in both cases. In the first one, the input current intensities are imposed by means of integrals on curves lying on the boundary of the domain and joining current entrances and exit. In the second one, the electric potentials are imposed by means of Lagrange multipliers, which are proved to represent the input current intensities. Optimal error estimates are proved in both cases and implementation issues are discussed. Finally, numerical tests confirming the theoretical results are reported. In this work we extend to superalgebras a result of Skosyrskii [Algebra and Logic, 18 (1) (1979) 49–57, Lemma 2] relating associative and Jordan structures. As an application, we show that the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of an associative superalgebra coincides with that of its symmetrization, and that local finiteness is equivalent in associative superalgebras and in their symmetrizations. We consider mimetic finite difference approximations to second order elliptic problems on non-matching multiblock grids. Mortar finite elements are employed on the non-matching interfaces to impose weak flux continuity. We provide a full large deviation principle (LDP) for the uniform measure on certain ensembles of convex lattice polygons. This LDP provides for the analysis of concentration of the measure on convex closed curves. In particular, convergence to a limiting shape results in some particular cases, including convergence to a circle when the ensemble is defined as those centered convex polygons, with vertices on a scaled two dimensional lattice, and with length bounded by a constant. It is shown that, by applying hyperbolic isometries, one may arrangen points in hyperbolic (n–1)-space in a certain standard position. Similar results are developed for complex hyperbolic space, as well as hyperbolic spaces defined over nearly arbitrary fields. We introduce a new method to study compact spaceliken-submanifolds in de Sitter spacesS q n+q by means of certain integral formulas which have a very clear geometric meaning. As a first application of them we obtain a Bernstein type result for complete maximal submanifolds inS q n+q . The purpose of this paper is to prove, assuming that the conjecture of Lang and Vojta holds true, that there is a uniform bound on the number of stably integral points in the complement of the theta divisor on a principally polarized abelian surface defined over a number field. Most of our argument works in arbitrary dimension and the restriction on the dimension ≤2 is used only at the last step, where we apply Pacelli’s stronger uniformity results for elliptic curves.
