Eigenequations for a metal-coated planar chiral dielectric waveguide and a mirror-conjugate planar chiral dielectric waveguide are derived. The eigenequations are given in simple formulations. The results indicate that the perfect conductive (or magnetic) boundary can produce mirror-conjugate of chiral media and the left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized modes couple with each other due to the conductive boundary. The propagation characteristics of a metal-coated planar waveguide with chiral core are presented. An interesting phenomenon is observed that the field distributions vary with respect to the operating wavelength.  相似文献

The effect of chirality on cutoff, dispersion and field distribution of the waveguide are studied. The propagation characteristics of a planar waveguide with mirror-conjugate chiralities filled in the core and the cladding (mirror-conjugate chirality waveguide) are presented. The effects of chirality on cutoff, dispersion and field distribution characteristics of the waveguide are studied. The results show that the waveguide with desired features can be made by appropriately selecting the chiralities of the core and the cladding, because the core chirality and cladding chirality have different influences on waveguide propagation characteristics.  相似文献

The propagation characteristics of a circular dielectric waveguide with chiral media filled in the cladding are investigated. The relation between the cutoff frequency and the chiral admittance, the dispersion curves for some modes with different angular mode numbers and the transverse distribution of fields are presented. Some new features different from the ordinary circular dielectric waveguide are resulted. The results show that the cladding chirality may lead to a single-mode operation in the circular dielectric waveguide.  相似文献

The general eigenequations and the field expressions for circular waveguides containing chiral material in both the core and the cladding are given in a simple formulation. The results indicate that there are two types of field distribution which is related to the operating wavelength and chiral admittance. When the chiral admittance is larger than a critical value, the fields of one kind of circularly polarized wave in the core become exponentially-like damping in the transverse direction. Based on the eigenequations, the characteristics of a circular waveguide with chiral medium filled in the core are investigated. A simple finite difference time domain (FDTD) scheme for chiral media is developed for modeling the chiral discontinuities in the waveguide with the aid of the second-order backward finite difference. The accuracy of the FDTD scheme is demonstrated by the comparison between our calculated results and those in the literature for achiral and chiral media. Comparisons of characteristics between chiral and achiral discontinuities in the waveguide are presented at last.  相似文献

对于傍轴光束,提出了介质平面波导衍射场的近场模场半宽度、远场发散角半宽度和光束传输因子M^2等光束参量之间满足简单的关系式,三个光束参量均可直接由波导模式场分布精确计算,或由可实际精确测量的远场衍射频谱分布精确计算。M^2因子的计算公式可表述为以二阶矩和微分算子定义的近场模场半宽度的比值,或以二阶矩和微分算子定义的远场发散角半宽度的比值。最后推导出介质平面波导TE0模衍射场光束参量的解析函数和光束参量的范围。  相似文献

Abstract

A non-destructive test method of a small defect (a dust particle or an air bubble) in a strongly confined planar waveguide is demonstrated in this work. Based on strong resonances between the small defect and some special incident wavelengths, an accurate reconstruction of the defect parameters can quickly be obtained from our previous numerical method. An example is given to verify the validity of the present measurement method.  相似文献

Radiation phenomena observed in a wedge shape ended dielectric slab waveguide are analyzed using mode matching technique. The case of transverse electric polarization (TE) being parallel to dielectric slab waveguide is assumed. In order to describe the fields in the wedge region, a stack of dielectric plates is assumed and in each layer the fields are expanded in terms of the mixed spectrum of guided and radiated modes. A similar expansion is used in the constant thickness slab waveguide while in free space medium a continuous-radiation mode expansion is used. Then a mode matching approach is applied, incorporating the orthogonality properties of mixed spectrum modes, in order to compute the wave fields inside the dielectric slab waveguide and wedge medium. Mode matching is achieved by discretizing the continuous radiation mode spectrum leading into a numerically stable solution provided a sufficient large number of points are used to convert integrals into finite summations. Numerical computations are carried out for various wedge geometries and shapes including linear and exponential profiles.  相似文献

The propagation characteristics of general chiral planar waveguides are presented. This is the first time the eigen equation is given in a simple formulation. The results indicate that there are two types of field distribution which is related to the working wavelength and chiral admittance. When the chiral admittance is larger than a certain value, the fields of one kind of circularly polarized wave in the core become exponentially damping in the transverse direction. 将基于Daubechies紧支集尺度函数的时域多分辨分析(MRTD)算法用于集成平面光波导组件的时域分析中,实现了MRTD算法的各向异性理想匹配层(APML)吸收边界条件,并对平行介质带定向耦合器进行了数值模拟和验证,所得结果与解析解非常一致.与传统的FDTD算法相比,MRTD算法在不牺牲计算精度的前提下能够大大节省计算资源.  相似文献

用有限元方法计算了硅基光波导器件的应力,得到由应力引起的双折射,从理论上分析了内应力对器件偏振特性的影响。得出结论:硅基与其它层材料热膨胀系数的不同,是引起芯区双折射的主要因素,通过掺杂、调整覆层的热膨胀系数,可以得到双折射系数较小的光波导。  相似文献

A problem of coupling between conventional dielectric waveguides and a two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide is analyzed, using the Fourier series expansion method combined with the absorbing boundary condition of a perfectly matched layer (PML). A novel structure for the input and output ends of the photonic crystal waveguide is proposed to increase the coupling efficiency. Numerical examples are demonstrated and discussed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed structure.  相似文献
