Matrix Schur product is the entry-wise product of matrices of the same size. It was shown by P. Chaisuriya and S.-C. Ong [1] that (forr1) infinite matrices [a jk ] such that [|a jk | r ] B(l 2 form a Banach algebra under the norm [a jk ] r =[|a jk | r ]1/r and the Schur product. In this paper we demonstrate the existence of Banach space duality within the class of these algebras which is analogous to the classical duality between the spaces of compact, trace class, and bounded operators onl 2. A Semigroup Approach to Harmonic Maps   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We present a semigroup approach to harmonic maps between metric spaces. Our basic assumption on the target space (N,d) is that it admits a barycenter contraction, i.e. a contracting map which assigns to each probability measure q on N a point b(q) in N. This includes all metric spaces with globally nonpositive curvature in the sense of Alexandrov as well as all metric spaces with globally nonpositive curvature in the sense of Busemann. It also includes all Banach spaces.The analytic input comes from the domain space (M,) where we assume that we are given a Markov semigroup (pt)t>0. Typical examples come from elliptic or parabolic second-order operators on Rn, from Lévy type operators, from Laplacians on manifolds or on metric measure spaces and from convolution operators on groups. In contrast to the work of Korevaar and Schoen (1993, 1997), Jost (1994, 1997), Eells and Fuglede (2001) our semigroups are not required to be symmetric.The linear semigroup acting, e.g., on the space of bounded measurable functions u:MR gives rise to a nonlinear semigroup (Pt*)t acting on certain classes of measurable maps f:MN. We will show that contraction and smoothing properties of the linear semigroup (pt)t can be extended to the nonlinear semigroup (Pt*)t, for instance, LpLq smoothing, hypercontractivity, and exponentially fast convergence to equilibrium. Among others, we state existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Dirichlet problem for harmonic maps between metric spaces. Moreover, for this solution we prove Lipschitz continuity in the interior and Hölder continuity at the boundary.Our approach also yields a new interpretation of curvature assumptions which are usually required to deduce regularity results for the harmonic map flow: lower Ricci curvature bounds on the domain space are equivalent to estimates of the L1-Wasserstein distance between the distribution of two Brownian motions in terms of the distance of their starting points; nonpositive sectional curvature on the target space is equivalent to the fact that the L1-Wasserstein distance of two distributions always dominates the distance of their barycenters.Dedicated to the memory of Professor Dr. Heinz Bauer  相似文献

These classes of operators denoted by S(p, q) are closely related when assumed to be positive with other sets of operators, like the class of positive operators on A 2 for which \({\left(\sum_{j\geq0}(\sum_{n\in I_{j}}|\left\langle T^pe_{n},e_{n}\right\rangle |)^{q/p}\right)^{1/q}<\infty}\) , where \({\{e_{n}\}_{n\geq0}}\) is the canonical basis of A 2; also we study the relation of Toeplitz operators in S(p, q) with the Schatten-Herz classes, where the decomposition is through dyadic annuli of the domain \({\mathbb{D}}\) .  相似文献

Introducing a path integral for the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process distorted by a potential V(x), we find out the T limit of the probability distributions of X[]:=1/T 0 T V((t))dt for Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process (t), with appropriate values of the exponent that depend on V. We establish lower and upper bounds for the small ball probability of a centered Gaussian process(X(t)) t[0,1] N under Hölder-type norms as well as upper bounds for some more general functionals. This extends recently established results for the uniform norm. In addition, our proof of the lower bound is considerably simpler. In the special caseN=1 we establish precise estimates under a wider class of norms including in particular the Besov norms.  相似文献

The notion of the discriminant function of two commuting nonselfadjoint operators A1 and A2 in a Hilbert space H was defined by M.S. Livic in a recent paper [5].In the present paper we study the discriminant function for two special cases of commuting operators. In one case A1 and A2 are rational functions of one and the same operator A in H. In the second case A1 and A2 are Kronecker products of the form A I and I B, where I is the identity operator.As an auxiliary result a relation between the Sylvester and Bezoutian matrices of two polynomials is derived.  相似文献

The structure preserving rank reduction problem arises in many important applications. The singular value decomposition (SVD), while giving the closest low rank approximation to a given matrix in matrix L 2 norm and Frobenius norm, may not be appropriate for these applications since it does not preserve the given structure. We present a new method for structure preserving low rank approximation of a matrix, which is based on Structured Total Least Norm (STLN). The STLN is an efficient method for obtaining an approximate solution to an overdetermined linear system AX B, preserving the given linear structure in the perturbation [E F] such that (A + E)X = B + F. The approximate solution can be obtained to minimize the perturbation [E F] in the L p norm, where p = 1, 2, or . An algorithm is described for Hankel structure preserving low rank approximation using STLN with L p norm. Computational results are presented, which show performances of the STLN based method for L 1 and L 2 norms for reduced rank approximation for Hankel matrices.  相似文献

We mainly investigate the behavior of the subdominant eigenvalue of matrices B= (b i,j)n,n whose entries are independent random variables with an expectation Eb i,j=1/n and with a variance n c/n 2 for some constant c 0. For such matrices we show that for large n, the subdominant eigenvalue is, with great probability, in a small neighborhood of 0. This paper is concerned with the development of efficient algorithms for the approximate solution of fractional differential equations of the form D y(t)=f(t,y(t)), R +N.()We briefly review standard numerical techniques for the solution of () and we consider how the computational cost may be reduced by taking into account the structure of the calculations to be undertaken. We analyse the fixed memory principle and present an alternative nested mesh variant that gives a good approximation to the true solution at reasonable computational cost.
