A mode converter with multi-waveguide output for millimeter wave gyro-device applications is proposed in this article, which is used to convert the TE01 circular waveguide mode into the TE10 rectangular waveguide mode. Computer simulations with Ansoft HFSS code show that the energy transmission coefficient of larger than 95.96% may be reached in the frequency range from 34.094 GHz to 35.8 GHz (a bandwidth of 1.706 GHz) at a VSWR of lower than 1.5 for the input operating mode.  相似文献

At certain gyrotron operating conditions, mode cooperation instead of mode competition takes place between a fundamental and a second harmonic mode. This means the phase bunching of a gyrating electron beam under the second harmonic operation reduces the starting current for the fundamental operation and increases total output power as well as beam efficiency. Such mode cooperation is observed in experiments and confirmed by computer simulations for submillimeter wave Gyrotron FU II.  相似文献

The design of a 8mm TE 13 mode gyrotron is given in this paper. Discussions about the selection of the dimensions of the RF structure and electron gun are presented. Calculated results of the operating parameters of the gyrotron are also given. At 37.5GHz, pulse power 56kW is obtained for the gyrotron manufactured according to our design. Mode pattern obtained by scorching method shows that the mode of the output millimeter wave is TE 13.  相似文献

Gaussian optics can be used to design a quasi-optical system converting the TE06 mode output (f=388 GHz) of a submillimeter wave gyrotron into a well-collimated, linearly-polarized free-space beam with a circular cross-section. A quasi-optical antenna produces a main beam with an elliptical cross-section, which is then converted by two mirrors into a well-collimated beam with a circular cross-section.  相似文献

A new type of complex cavity structure is used to improve the selectivity of modes in gyrotron resonant cavity with a rational position of inter-cavity wall and the shape of coupling holes between inter- and outer-cavities. The resonant characteristics of the complex cavity operating in TE021/TE031 mode at Ka frequency band are simulated and analyzed with Ansoft HFSS code, which shows that mode competition can effectively be alleviated with the cavity structure and it may be useful to the formation of clustered-cavity for extending interaction frequency bandwidth.  相似文献

Electron cyclotron resonance heating and electron cyclotron current drive (ECRH/ECCD) have developed significantly in recent years such as Tore Supra, JT-60U , Heliotron j. It has many advantages over other means of heating and current drive. Firstly, the launcher can be located far away from the plasma. Secondly, the fact that the ECRH/ECCD power can be injected as narrow Gaussian beams, giving rise to highly localized power deposition, makes ECRH/ECCD an ideal candidate for local MHD control.  相似文献

Two-step high-power TE03-to-TE01 mode transducers (TE02 is the intermediate mode) were designed to transform the TE03 output mode of the 150 GHz KfK gyrotron into the fundamental circular symmetric TE01 mode for low-loss propagation and further conversion into the linearly polarized quasioptical HE11 mode. The advanced perturbation structures of the ruppled-wall mode converters (with input- and output-diameter D=27.8 mm) were optimized by numerically solving the proper coupled-wave differential equations. The overall TE03-to-TE01 conversion efficiency at 150 GHz was calculated to be 0=99.1% for a long converter (total length L=2.67 m) and 0=97.8% for a short converter (L=1.07 m); ohmic attenuation is included. The corresponding theoretical bandwidth (for 95%) is ±1.4 GHz and ±2 GHz, respectively. Low-power experimental data are in excellent agreement with these computed values.  相似文献

基于不规则波导模式匹配法以及缓变波导中电磁波模式耦合理论,研究了一种W波段圆波导TE62模式激励器. 该波导模式激励器采用矩形波导TE10模式通过侧壁耦合馈入同轴波导,利用同轴波导的选模特性激励TE61模式;随后利用轴向半径周期微扰的圆波导实现TE61–TE62模式变换. 文中推导了矩形-同轴波导模式匹配理论,系统研究了波导结构缓变参数对模式变换效率的影响,完成了模式变换器的优化仿真设计,数值计算结果表明:中心频率处TE62模式的转换效率为94.5%,纯度为98.16%,效率85%以上带宽达到1 GHz,能够满足回旋管冷测的要求. 关键词: 同轴波导 模式变换 耦合模理论 半径微扰  相似文献

A mathematical model is developed for analysis the dynamics of an intra-cavity laser spectroscopy and mode competition using the CO2 laser as the coherent source. The governing equations of system are derived and effect of the absorbing material on the laser modes, as a time-dependent term is considered. Elliptical deformation of oversized, smooth-wall circular waveguides can produce choosable elliptical or circular polarization from a linearly polarized TE11 or TM11 mode used as intermediate linearly polarized modes in TEO1 to HE11 mode conversion sequences in electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of magnetically confined thermonuclear fusion plasmas with high-power gyrotrons. Mode coupling in elliptically distorted overmoded circular waveguides has been studied theoretically and experimentally in order to optimize TE11 (and TM11) polarizers (I.D.=27.79 mm) for the 1 MW/70 GHz long-pulse (3s) ECRH system on the Garching Stellarator W VII-AS. Coupling coefficients for ellipticity coupling of non-degenerate modes are given (coupled-mode differential equations formalism). The polarization converters essentially consist of smooth-wall circular waveguides which are gradually squeezed. A sine-squared function of the length coordinate is used to get an almost elliptical crosssection in the middle and circular cross sections at both ends. Arbitrary elliptical polarization states can be generated introducing an extremely low level (<<1%) of undesired spurious modes. Well defined differential phase characteristics have been achieved.  相似文献

A theoretical and experimental study of TE11-to-HE11 mode conversion in highly oversized waveguides is given. The balanced HE11 hybrid mode propagating in a circumferentially corrugated circular waveguide is in many respects ideal for effective electron cyclotron resonance heating of fusion plasmas with high-power gyrotrons. At an aperture antenna it exhibits desirable radiation characteristics such as linear polarization with very low cross polarization and axisymmetric power distribution with low sidelobe levels. This Gaussian-like mode can be generated from a TE11 mode by means of a corrugated mode converter in which the depth of the annular slots is tapered gradually from one-half to one-quarter wavelength. Computer-aided optimization of converter length, shape of corrugations, and of non-linear slot depth variation for 28 GHz- and 70 GHz-transducers was achieved with a scattering matrix formalism employing the modal field expansion technique (Modular Analysis Concept). In both cases the measured conversion efficiency of (98.5±0.5)% and the experimental values of the maximum cross polarization (below –28 dB) are in very good agreement with the predicted values. High-power operation was successfully demonstrated using pulsed 28 GHz- and 70 GHz-VARIAN gyrotrons (200 kW).  相似文献

In this paper we present a novel design of a quasi-optical system for conversion of gyrotron outputs into Gaussian-like beams. It consists of a quasi-optical antenna, two focusing mirrors and a filter which removes the side lobes of the beam. The system is appropriate as a transmission line for frequency tunable gyrotrons operating at TE0n mode. As an illustration of our approach, we present results which demonstrate the applicability of the developed system for conversion of the radiation generated by the Gyrotron FU IVA. The examples include conversion of three TE0n modes (TE02, 223 GHz; TE03, 323 GHz; TE04, 423 GHz) into Gaussian- like beams.  相似文献

Magnicon works in a rotrating TMn10 mode in the cylindracl cavity, its field distribution is different from the static state. But up to now researchers simply assume its cold quality to be two times of the static one, which usually results in big errors. Here in this paper, based on the rotating field distribution, and using the integrated Bessel function, we deduced the cavity’s storage and the rotating field dissipated power expressions, and obtained a modified cold quality formula for rotating TMn10 mode in the magnicon, which shows a good agreement with the experimental data. A compact rectangular TE10-TE30 mode converter is developed for the lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) launcher on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) at 4.6 GHz. The converter with periodic width perturbation aims to divide the microwave power into three sub-waveguides in the poloidal direction. We present the design and numerical calculation of the mode converter. Calculations are performed on the ripple wall converter by codes based on numerical solving the coupled-mode differential equations and on the simulation of the High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) package. The resulting conversion efficiency from TE10 mode to TE30 mode exceeds 95% within the bandwidth from 4.56 GHz to 4.64 GHz, and the return loss of the oversized transducer can be considerably decreased to 0.068% by means of a capacitive button embedded in the E-plane of the waveguide.  相似文献
