Some recurrence relations among moments of order statistics from two related sets of variables are quite well-known in the i.i.d. case and are due to Govindarajulu (1963a, Technometrics, 5, 514–518 and 1966, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc., 61, 248–258). In this paper, we generalize these results to the case when the order statistics arise from two related sets of independent and non-identically distributed random variables. These relations can be employed to simplify the evaluation of the moments of order statistics in an outlier model for symmetrically distributed random variables. 相似文献

In this paper, we establish several recurrence relations satisfied by the single and the product moments for order statistics from the right-truncated generalized half logistic distribution. These relationships may be used in a simple recursive manner in order to compute the single and the product moments of all order statistics for all sample sizes and for any choice of the truncation parameter P. These generalize the corresponding results for the generalized half logistic distribution derived recently by Balakrishnan and Sandhu (1995, J. Statist. Comput. Govindarajulu expressed the moments of order statistics from a symmetric distribution in terms of those from its folded form. He derived these relations analytically by dividing the range of integration suitably into parts. In this paper, we establish these relations through probabilistic arguments which readily extend to the independent and non-identically distributed case. Chen and Bhattacharyya (1988,Comm. Statist. Theory Methods,17, 1857–1870) derived the exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the mean of an exponential distribution
and an exact lower confidence bound for the mean based on a hybrid censored sample. In this paper, an alternative simple form
for the distribution is obtained and is shown to be equivalent to that of Chen and Bhattacharyya (1988). Noting that this
scheme, which would guarantee the experiment to terminate by a fixed timeT, may result in few failures, we propose a new hybrid censoring scheme which guarantees at least a fixed number of failures
in a life testing experiment. The exact distribution of the MLE as well as an exact lower confidence bound for the mean is

Thomas and Wilson (Technometrics 14 (1972) 679) developed a computational method for calculating the single and product moments of order statistics from progressively censored samples by making use of the corresponding moments of the usual order statistics. The absence of an explicit representation for the marginal and joint density function of order statistics under progressive censoring makes their method extremely tedious. By deriving the required marginal and joint density functions in explicit form, we obtain an alternative, highly efficient, method for computing the desired moments. 相似文献

Series expansions of moments of order statistics are obtained from expansions of the inverse of the distribution function. They are valid for certain types of distributions with regularly varying tails. We show that the expansions converge quickly when the sample size is moderate to large, and we obtain bounds on the rate of convergence. In practice, lifetime performance index CL is used to measure the potential and performance of a process, where L is the lower specification limit. Progressive censoring scheme is quite useful in many practical situations where budget constraints are in place or there is a demand for rapid testing. In this paper, under the assumption of exponential distribution, this study constructs a maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of CL based on the progressively type II right censored sample. The MLE of CL is then utilized to develop the hypothesis testing procedure in the condition of known L. The new testing procedure can be employed by product managers to assess whether the lifetime of products (or items) adheres to the required level in the condition of known L. Finally, we give one example to illustrate the use of the testing algorithmic procedure under given significance level. 相似文献

Lifetime performance assessment is important in service (or manufacturing) industries. Hence, lifetime performance index CL is used to measure the potential and performance of a process, where L is the lower specification limit. In this paper, assuming the conjugate prior distribution and squared-error loss function, this study constructs a Bayes estimator under the Rayleigh distribution with the progressive type II right censored sample. The Bayes estimator of CL is then utilized to develop a credible interval in the condition of known L. Moreover, we also propose a Bayesian test to assess the lifetime performance of products. Finally, we give two examples and the Monte Carlo simulation to assess the behavior of the lifetime performance index CL. Moreover, the purchasers can then employ the credible interval and the Bayesian test to determine whether the product performance adheres to the required level. 相似文献

We provide an explicit analytical solution for a logarithmic integral in terms of the Lerch transcendent function together with the generalized Stirling numbers of the first kind. For some special cases of interest in statistical applications, the explicit solution can be expressed in terms of the polylogarithm function together with the aforementioned Stirling numbers. As a consequence, we obtain explicit expressions for the moments of order statistics from the half-logistic distribution, the Weibull-geometric distribution and the long-term Weibull-geometric distribution, which include as particular cases the extended exponential-geometric distribution and the long-term extended exponential-geometric distribution, among others.
