We study the structure of NPR's in the space C( K) of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space K. The paper deals with the operator of metric projection onto an arbitrary one-dimensional Chebyshev subspace 〈 φ〉 of the space C[ K] of real-valued functions defined and continuous on a Hausdorff compact set K. The linearity coefficient of the operator is calculated in terms of the parameters of the generating function φ. As a consequence, a new estimate of the Lipschitz constant of the operator is obtained. 相似文献

The object of this paper is to prove the following theorem: If Y is a closed subspace of the Banach space X, then L1(μ, Y) is proximinal in L1(μ, X) if and only if Lp(μ, Y) is proximinal in Lp(μ, Y) for every p, 1 < p < ∞. As an application of this result we prove that if Y is either reflexive or Y is a separable proximinal dual space, then L1(μ, Y) is proximinal in L1(μ, X). 相似文献

We investigate how the entropy numbers ( en( T)) of an arbitrary Hölder-continuous operator T: E→ C( K) are influenced by the entropy numbers ( n( K)) of the underlying compact metric space K and the geometry of E. We derive diverse universal inequalities relating finitely many n( K)'s with finitely many en( T)'s which yield statements about the asymptotically optimal behaviour of the sequence ( en( T)) in terms of the sequence ( n( K)). As an application we present new methods for estimating the entropy numbers of a precompact and convex subset in a Banach space E, provided that the entropy numbers of its extremal points are known. 相似文献

matrix coefficients A and B. The resulting matrix equation is equivalent to a sequence of low-order systems of linear equations for the entries of the
desired solution. Through numerical experiments, the situation where the conditions for unique solvability are “nearly” violated

It is shown that every ( v, q+1,1)−BIBD can be constructed from a near vector space over GF( q). Some corollaries are: Given a ( v1, q+1,1)−BIBD P1, B1 and a ( v2, q+1,1)−BIBD P2, B2, there is a (( q−1) v1v2+ v1+ v2, q+1,1)−BIBD P3, B3 containing P1, B1 and P2, B2 as disjoint subdesigns.
