On eigenvalue pinching in positive Ricci curvature   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We shall show that for manifolds with Ric≥n−1 the radius is close to π iff the (n+1)st eigenvalue is close to n. This extends results of Cheng and Croke which show that the diameter is close to π iff the first eigenvalue is close to n. We shall also give a new proof of an important theorem of Colding to the effect that if the radius is close to π, then the volume is close to that of the sphere and the manifold is Gromov-Hausdorff close to the sphere. Two-degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian systems with an elliptic equilibrium at the origin are characterised by the frequencies of the linearisation. Considering the frequencies as parameters, the system undergoes a bifurcation when the frequencies pass through a resonance. These bifurcations are well understood for most resonances k:l, but not the semisimple cases 1:1 and 1:?1. A two-degree-of-freedom Hamiltonian system can be approximated to any order by an integrable normal form. The reason is that the normal form of a Hamiltonian system has an additional integral due to the normal form symmetry. The latter is intimately related to the ratio of the frequencies. For a rational frequency ratio this leads to S1-symmetric systems. The question we wish to address is about the co-dimension of such a system in 1:1 resonance with respect to left-right-equivalence, where the right action is S1-equivariant. The result is a co-dimension five unfolding of the central singularity. Two of the unfolding parameters are moduli and the remaining non-modal parameters are the ones found in the linear unfolding of this system.  相似文献

Suppose that (Xt)t0 is a one-dimensional Brownian motion with negative drift ?μ. It is possible to make sense of conditioning this process to be in the state 0 at an independent exponential random time and if we kill the conditioned process at the exponential time the resulting process is Markov. If we let the rate parameter of the random time go to 0, then the limit of the killed Markov process evolves like X conditioned to hit 0, after which time it behaves as X killed at the last time X visits 0. Equivalently, the limit process has the dynamics of the killed “bang–bang” Brownian motion that evolves like Brownian motion with positive drift +μ when it is negative, like Brownian motion with negative drift ?μ when it is positive, and is killed according to the local time spent at 0.An extension of this result holds in great generality for a Borel right process conditioned to be in some state a at an exponential random time, at which time it is killed. Our proofs involve understanding the Campbell measures associated with local times, the use of excursion theory, and the development of a suitable analogue of the “bang–bang” construction for a general Markov process.As examples, we consider the special case when the transient Borel right process is a one-dimensional diffusion. Characterizing the limiting conditioned and killed process via its infinitesimal generator leads to an investigation of the h-transforms of transient one-dimensional diffusion processes that goes beyond what is known and is of independent interest.  相似文献

We say that a probability kernel exhibits dynamic uniqueness (DU) if all the stochastic chains starting from a fixed past coincide on the future tail σ-algebra. Our first theorem is a set of properties that are pairwise equivalent to DU which allow us to understand how it compares to other more classical concepts. In particular, we prove that DU is equivalent to a weak-?2 summability condition on the kernel. As a corollary to this theorem, we prove that the Bramson–Kalikow and the long-range Ising models both exhibit DU if and only if their kernels are ?2 summable. Finally, if we weaken the condition for DU, asking for coincidence on the future σ-algebra for almost every pair of pasts, we obtain a condition that is equivalent to β-mixing (weak-Bernoullicity) of the compatible stationary chain. As a consequence, we show that a modification of the weak-?2 summability condition on the kernel is equivalent to the β-mixing of the compatible stationary chain.  相似文献

In the present paper, we investigate global-in-time Strichartz estimates without loss on non-trapping asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. Due to the hyperbolic nature of such manifolds, the set of admissible pairs for Strichartz estimates is much larger than usual. These results generalize the works on hyperbolic space due to Anker–Pierfelice and Ionescu–Staffilani. However, our approach is to employ the spectral measure estimates, obtained in the author's joint work with Hassell, to establish the dispersive estimates for truncated/microlocalized Schrödinger propagators as well as the corresponding energy estimates. Compared with hyperbolic space, the crucial point here is to cope with the conjugate points on the manifold. Additionally, these Strichartz estimates are applied to the L2 well-posedness and L2 scattering for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with power-like nonlinearity and small Cauchy data.  相似文献

The problem of scheduling the production and delivery of a supplier to feed the production of F manufacturers is studied. The orders fulfilled by the supplier are delivered to the manufacturers in batches of the same size. The supplier's production line has to be set up whenever it switches from processing an order of one manufacturer to an order of another manufacturer. The objective is to minimize the total setup cost, subject to maintaining continuous production for all manufacturers. The problem is proved to be NP-hard. It is reduced to a single machine scheduling problem with deadlines and jobs belonging to F part types. An O(NlogF) algorithm, where N is the number of delivery batches, is presented to find a feasible schedule. A dynamic programming algorithm with O(N F /F F–2) running time is presented to find an optimal schedule. If F=2 and setup costs are unit, an O(N) time algorithm is derived.  相似文献

We analyze the transience, recurrence, and irreducibility properties of general sub-Markovian resolvents of kernels and their duals, with respect to a fixed sub-invariant measure m. We give a unifying characterization of the invariant functions, revealing the fact that an Lp-integrable function is harmonic if and only if it is harmonic with respect to the weak dual resolvent. Our approach is based on potential theoretical techniques for resolvents in weak duality. We prove the equivalence between the m-irreducible recurrence of the resolvent and the extremality of m in the set of all invariant measures, and we apply this result to the extremality of Gibbs states. We also show that our results can be applied to non-symmetric Dirichlet forms, in general and in concrete situations. A second application is the extension of the so called Fukushima ergodic theorem for symmetric Dirichlet forms to the case of sub-Markovian resolvents of kernels.  相似文献

An optimal control problem for an elliptic obstacle variational inequality is considered. The obstacle is taken to be the control and the solution to the obstacle problem is taken to be the state. The goal is to find the optimal obstacle from H 1 0 (Ω) so that the state is close to the desired profile while the H 1 (Ω) norm of the obstacle is not too large. Robinson (or infinite model theoretic) forcing is studied in the context of set theory. The major result is that infinite forcing, genericity, and related notions are not absolute relative to ZFC. This answers a question of G. Sacks and provides a non-trivial example of a non-absolute notion of model theory. This non-absoluteness phenomenon is shown to be intrinsic to the concept of infinite forcing in the sense that any ZFC-definable set theory, relative to which forcing is absolute, has the flavor of asserting self-inconsistency. More precisely: IfT is a ZFC-definable set theory such that the existence of a standard model ofT is consistent withT, then forcing is not absolute relative toT. For example, if it is consistent that ZFC+ “there is a measureable cardinal” has a standard model then forcing is not absolute relative to ZFC+ “there is a measureable cardinal.” Some consequences: 1) The resultants for infinite forcing may not be chosen “effectively” in general. This answers a question of A. Robinson. 2) If ZFC is consistent then it is consistent that the class of constructible division rings is disjoint from the class of generic division rings. 3) If ZFC is consistent then the generics may not be axiomatized by a single sentence ofL w/w. In recent work, Chaumont et al. (2013) showed that is possible to condition a stable process with index α(1,2) to avoid the origin. Specifically, they describe a new Markov process which is the Doob h-transform of a stable process and which arises from a limiting procedure in which the stable process is conditioned to have avoided the origin at later and later times. A stable process is a particular example of a real self-similar Markov process (rssMp) and we develop the idea of such conditionings further to the class of rssMp. Under appropriate conditions, we show that the specific case of conditioning to avoid the origin corresponds to a classical Cramér–Esscher-type transform to the Markov Additive Process (MAP) that underlies the Lamperti–Kiu representation of a rssMp. In the same spirit, we show that the notion of conditioning a rssMp to continuously absorb at the origin also fits the same mathematical framework. In particular, we characterise the stable process conditioned to continuously absorb at the origin when α(0,1). Our results also complement related work for positive self-similar Markov processes in Chaumont and Rivero (2007).  相似文献

In this work we apply infinitesimal variational calculus to the systems of balance equations. We determine a class of the exterior n+(n+1)-forms Θ on the jet bundle of infinite order over a configurational bundle π:Yn+mXn similar to the class of Lepage n-forms. Systems of differential equations obtained in the way similar to one used in the Lagrangian field theory, include the Euler–Lagrange equations corresponding to a Lagrangian functions as well as arbitrary regular systems of balance equations. For a balance system with a symmetry group G we present the Noether balance laws corresponding to the generators of the Lie algebra of the group G.  相似文献

We propose a new method for performing multiscale analysis of functions defined on the vertices of a finite connected weighted graph. Our approach relies on a random spanning forest to downsample the set of vertices, and on approximate solutions of Markov intertwining relation to provide a subgraph structure and a filter bank leading to a wavelet basis of the set of functions. Our construction involves two parameters q and q. The first one controls the mean number of kept vertices in the downsampling, while the second one is a tuning parameter between space localization and frequency localization. We provide an explicit reconstruction formula, bounds on the reconstruction operator norm and on the error in the intertwining relation, and a Jackson-like inequality. These bounds lead to recommend a way to choose the parameters q and q. We illustrate the method by numerical experiments.  相似文献

An LU-type factorization theorem due to Elsner and to Gohberg and Goldberg is generalized to block matrices. One form of the general factorization takes the form LMU, where L is block lower-triangular, U is block upper-triangular, and M is a subpermutation matrix each of whose blocks is diagonal. A factorization is also given where the middle term is a block diagonal subpermutation matrix, and the factorization is applied to Wiener-Hopf equations. The nonuniqueness of the middle term in the factorization is analyzed. A special factorization for self-adjoint block matrices is also obtained.  相似文献

Hidden Markov fields (HMFs) have been successfully used in many areas to take spatial information into account. In such models, the hidden process of interest X is a Markov field, that is to be estimated from an observable process Y. The possibility of such estimation is due to the fact that the conditional distribution of the hidden process with respect to the observed one remains Markovian. The latter property remains valid when the pairwise process (X,Y) is Markov and such models, called pairwise Markov fields (PMFs), have been shown to offer larger modeling capabilities while exhibiting similar processing cost. Further extensions lead to a family of more general models called triplet Markov fields (TMFs) in which the triplet (U,X,Y) is Markov where U is an underlying process that may have different meanings according to the application. A link has also been established between these models and the theory of evidence, opening new possibilities of achieving Dempster–Shafer fusion in Markov fields context. The aim of this paper is to propose a unifying general formalism allowing all conventional modeling and processing possibilities regarding information imprecision, sensor unreliability and data fusion in Markov fields context. The generality of the proposed formalism is shown theoretically through some illustrative examples dealing with image segmentation, and experimentally on hand-drawn and SAR images.  相似文献
