We introduce an analogue of the Novikov Conjecture on higher signatures in the context of the algebraic geometry of (nonsingular) complex projective varieties. This conjecture asserts that certain ``higher Todd genera' are birational invariants. This implies birational invariance of certain extra combinations of Chern classes (beyond just the classical Todd genus) in the case of varieties with large fundamental group (in the topological sense). We prove the conjecture under the assumption of the ``strong Novikov Conjecture' for the fundamental group, which is known to be correct for many groups of geometric interest. We also show that, in a certain sense, our conjecture is best possible.

In this paper bounded surgery obstruction groups for some noncoarsely uniformly contractible spaces are computed. These spaces are constructed out of the union of countably many spheres of fixed dimension and increasing radii. These results support the coarse Novikov conjecture: the coarse homology of the space with coefficients in theory injects into the bounded L-group.  相似文献

We prove that the Novikov assembly map for a group factorizes,in ‘low homological degree’, through the algebraicK-theory of its integral group ring. In homological degree 2,this answers a question posed by N. Higson and P. Julg. As adirect application, we prove that if is torsion-free and satisfiesthe Baum-Connes conjecture, then the homology group H1(; Z)injects in and in , for any ring A such that . We study ideals of Novikov algebras and Novikov structures on finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We present the first example of a three-step nilpotent Lie algebra which does not admit a Novikov structure. On the other hand we show that any free three-step nilpotent Lie algebra admits a Novikov structure. We study the existence question also for Lie algebras of triangular matrices. Finally we show that there are families of Lie algebras of arbitrary high solvability class which admit Novikov structures.  相似文献

We construct a new compactification of a noncompact rank one globally symmetric space. The result is a nonmetrizable space which also compactifies the Borel–Serre enlargement X of X, contractible only in the appropriate ech sense, and with the action of any arithmetic subgroup of the isometry group of X on X not being small at infinity. Nevertheless, we show that such a compactification can be used in the approach to Novikov conjectures developed recently by G. Carlsson and E. K. Pedersen. In particular, we study the nontrivial instance of the phenomenon of bounded saturation in the boundary of X and deduce that integral assembly maps split in the case of a torsion-free arithmetic subgroup of a semi-simple algebraic Q-group of real rank one or, in fact, the fundamental group of any pinched hyperbolic manifold. Using a similar construction we also split assembly maps for neat subgroups of Hilbert modular groups.  相似文献

We outline a twisted analogue of the Mishchenko–Kasparov approach to prove the Novikov conjecture on the homotopy invariance of the higher signatures. Using our approach, we give a new and simple proof of the homotopy invariance of the higher signatures associated to all cohomology classes of the classifying space that belong to the subring of the cohomology ring of the classifying space that is generated by cohomology classes of degree less than or equal to 2, a result that was first established by Connes and Gromov and Moscovici using other methods. A key new ingredient is the construction of a tautological C* r (, )-bundle and connection, which can be used to construct a C* r (, )-index that lies in the Grothendieck group of C* r (, ), where is a multiplier on the discrete group corresponding to a degree 2 cohomology class. We also utilise a main result of Hilsum and Skandalis to establish our theorem.  相似文献

The Bass–Heller–Swan–Farrell–Hsiang–Siebenmann decomposition of the Whitehead group K 1(A[z,z-1]) of a twisted Laurent polynomial extension A[z,z-1] of a ring A is generalized to a decomposition of the Whitehead group K 1(A((z))) of a twisted Novikov ring of power series A((z))=A[[z]][z-1]. The decomposition involves a summand W1(A, ) which is an Abelian quotient of the multiplicative group W(A,) of Witt vectors 1+a1z+a2z2+ ··· A[[z]]. An example is constructed to show that in general the natural surjection W(A, )ab W1(A, ) is not an isomorphism.  相似文献

The Novikov equation and a negative flow of the Novikov hierarchy are related to a negative flow of the Sawada–Kotera hierarchy and the Sawada–Kotera equation by reciprocal transformations, respectively. With the help of the Darboux transformations for the negative flow of the Sawada–Kotera hierarchy, the Sawada–Kotera equation and reciprocal transformations, we obtain a parametric representation for N-soliton solutions to the Novikov equation and the negative flow of the Novikov hierarchy.  相似文献

The main result of this paper asserts that it suffices to prove the Jacobian Conjecture for all polynomial maps of the form , where is homogeneous (of degree 3) and is nilpotent and symmetric. We try to understand the behavior of algebraic shifting with respect to some basic constructions on simplicial complexes, such as union, coning, and (more generally) join. In particular, for the disjoint union of simplicial complexes we prove Δ(K ˙∪ L) = Δ(Δ(K) ˙∪ Δ(L)) (conjectured by Kalai [6]), and for the join we give an example of simplicial complexes K and L for which Δ(K*L)≠Δ(Δ(K)*Δ(L)) (disproving a conjecture by Kalai [6]), where Δ denotes the (exterior) algebraic shifting operator. We develop a ‘homological’ point of view on algebraic shifting which is used throughout this work.  相似文献

For a square-free monomial ideal I ? S = k[x 1, x 2,…, x n ], we introduce the notion of quasi-linear quotients. By using the quasi-linear quotients, we give a new algebraic criterion for the shellability of a pure simplicial complex Δ over [n]. Also, we provide a new criterion for the Cohen–Macaulayness of the face ring of a pure simplicial complex Δ. Moreover, we show that the face ring of the spanning simplicial complex (defined in [2 Anwar , I. , Raza , Z. , Kashif , A. Spanning simplicial complexes of uni-cyclic graphs . We study here a notion of simplicial satellites, as a first step towards a characterisation of simplicial derived functors, a problem unsolved since the latter were introduced.The problem comes from the fact that, in contrast with the abelian case, simplicial derived functors do not produce by themselves an exact sequence. Our solution consists in extending them to commutative k-cubes, for all k, forming thus an exact system of functors universal within the connected ones; or, in other words, a system of simplicial satellites. The tool we develop here for this extension is the homotopy kernel of a commutative k-dimensional cubic diagram, generalising the homotopy kernel of a map; its 2-dimensional version has already been proved essential in other homotopical topics.  相似文献

A super-twisted Dirac operator is constructed and deformed suitably. Following Shubin’s approach to Novikov inequalities associated to the deformed de Rham-Hodge operator, we give a for mula for the index of the super-twisted Dirac operator, and Novikov type inequalities for the deformed operator. We investigate Demailly's Conjecture for a general set of sufficiently many points. Demailly's Conjecture generalizes Chudnovsky's Conjecture in providing a lower bound for the Waldschmidt constant of a set of points in projective space. We also study a containment between symbolic and ordinary powers conjectured by Harbourne and Huneke that in particular implies Demailly's bound, and prove that a general version of this containment holds for generic determinantal ideals and defining ideals of star configurations.  相似文献
