The Casimir force between a perfectly conducting wall and a dielectric wall in a cavity comprising a transparent dielectric with output coupling is investigated. By using full quantum theory, we obtain the analysis expression of the force, which shows that the interaction of the two walls in this system is always repulsive. And the value of the Casimir force varies with the field amplitude reflectivity and the cavity size.  相似文献

We calculate the Casimir force between a perfect reflective wall and a semitransparent wall in the laser cavity. Using the Fox-Li quasimode theory to describe the electromagnetic field in the laser cavity, the vacuum energy and the Casimir force are calculated. We compare our results to the force in the ideal situation and find it smaller in the dissipative cavity. We also find that the Casimir force decreases with the increase of the wall-wall distance and the decay rate of the quasimodes in the laser cavity.  相似文献

The Casimir effect of a piston for massless scalar fields which satisfy Dirichlet boundary conditions in the context of five-dimensional Randall- Sundrum models is studied. In these scenarios we derive and calculate the expression for the Casimir force on the piston. We also discuss the Casimir force in the limit that one outer plate is moved to the remote place to show that the nature of the reduced force between the parallel plates left. In the Randall~undrum model involving two branes the two plates attract each other when they locate very closely, but the reduced Casimir force turns to be repulsive as the plates separation is not extremely tiny, which is against the experimental phenomena, meaning that the RSI model can not be acceptable. In the case of one brane model the shape of the reduced Casimir force is similar to that of the standard two-parallel-system in the four-dimensional fiat spacetimes while the sign of force remains negative.  相似文献

We calculate the Casimir force at a finite cut-off A by summing the forces induced by the all fluctuation modes. We show that the Casimir force is independent of the cut-off function in the limit L∧ → ∞. There is a correction in the order of (L∧)^-2, when L∧ is finite and large. This correction becomes remarkable when L is comparable with the microscopic length scale ∧^-1. It has been demonstrated that the Casimir force at a finite cut-off should be defined by summing forces of all fluctuation modes, instead of the derivative of Casimir energy with respect to L where an additional derivative of the cut-off function has been introduced.  相似文献

We present analytical solutions describing quantized vacuum field in a one-dimensional cavity with one of its two mirrors fixed and another vibrating in simple harmonic form. These solutions are accurate up to the second order of the oscillating magnitude and they are uniformly valid for all time.We obtain the simple analytical expression for the energy density of the field which explicitly manifests that for a cavity vibrating at its q-th (q≥2) eigenfrequency, q traveling wave packets emerge in the finite part of the field energy density, and their amplitudes grow their widths shrink in time, representing a large concentration of energy. The finite part of the field energy density originating from the oscillations is shown to be proportional to the factor(q^2-1).  相似文献

The Casimir energy of massive scalar field with hybrid (Diriehlet-Neumann) boundary condition is calculated. In order to regularize the model, the typical methods named as mode summation method and Green's function method are used respectively. It is found that the regularized zero-point energy density depends on the scalar field's mass. When the field is massless, the result is consistent with previous literatures.  相似文献

The Casimir stress on a cylindrical shell in background of conformally flat spacetime for massless scalar field is investigated. In the general case of Robin (mixed) boundary condition, formulae are derived for the vacuum expectation values of the energy–momentum tensor and vacuum forces acting on boundaries. The special case of the dS bulk is considered then different cosmological constants are assumed for the space inside and outside of the shell to have general results applicable to the case of cylindrical domain wall formations in the early universe.  相似文献

The Casimir effect has been studied for various quantum fields in both fiat and curved spacetimes. As a further step along this line, we provide an explicit derivation of Casimlr effect for massless spin-3/2 field with periodic boundary condition imposed in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The corresponding results with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are also discussed.  相似文献

We determine the regularized van der Waals contribution to pressure within a spherical cavity of vapor in a homogeneous, isotropic, infinite medium. The spherical Hamaker function, , has been defined, for the first time, in contrast to the conventional Hamaker function for planar surfaces, . For the materials under consideration, the pressure inside the cavity varies as , where a is the radius of the cavity. For radii below a transition radius, the surface energy (or surface tension) becomes size dependent and could have important implications for homogeneous nucleation of nanosized bubbles in liquids, as well as cavitation of bubbles.

We study the Casimir force FF between two parallel anti-ferromagnetic slabs taking into account an external magnetic field in the Voigt configuration. Using a frequency and magnetic field dependent magnetic permeability tensor and a frequency independent dielectric permittivity, to describe the slabs, we calculate the Casimir force using non-normal incidence reflectivity of the electromagnetic waves in the free space between the slabs. We determine the Casimir force by performing two-dimensional calculations. FF is investigated as a function of the layer thickness dd, the vacuum gap width LL between slabs, and the external magnetic field strength HH. Features of FF as function of the external field include the presence of sharp dips and peaks, which appear in the vicinity of the resonance frequency, and are consequences of the interaction of the external magnetic field with the electron spin. In addition, an external field may diminish FF, which is an important effect not found in any other system.  相似文献

We consider the finite temperature Casimir effect of a massive fermionic field confined between two parallel plates, with MIT bag boundary conditions on the plates. The background spacetime is Mp+1×Tq which has q dimensions compactified to a torus. On the compact dimensions, the field is assumed to satisfy periodicity boundary conditions with arbitrary phases. Both the high temperature and the low temperature expansions of the Casimir free energy and the force are derived explicitly. It is found that the Casimir force acting on the plates is always attractive at any temperature regardless of the boundary conditions assumed on the compact torus. The asymptotic limits of the Casimir force in the small plate separation limit are also obtained.  相似文献
