Image of the braid groups inside the finite Temperley–Lieb algebras

We determine the image of the braid groups inside the Temperley–Lieb algebras, defined over finite field, in the semisimple case, and for suitably large (but controlable) order of the defining (quantum) parameter. We also prove that, under natural conditions on this parameter, the representations of the Hecke algebras over a finite field are unitary for the action of the braid groups.     

The Isaacs–Navarro conjecture for covering groups of the symmetric and alternating groups in odd characteristic

In this paper, we prove that a refinement of the Alperin–McKay Conjecture for p-blocks of finite groups, formulated by I.M. Isaacs and G. Navarro in 2002, holds for all covering groups of the symmetric and alternating groups, whenever p is an odd prime.     

Codismantlability and projective dimension of the Stanley–Reisner ring of special hypergraphs

In this paper, we generalize the concept of codismantlable graphs to hypergraphs and show that some special vertex decomposable hypergraphs are codismantlable. Then we generalize the concept of bouquet in graphs to hypergraphs to extend some combinatorial invariants of graphs about disjointness of a set of bouquets. We use these invariants to characterize the projective dimension of Stanley–Reisner ring of special hypergraphs in some sense.     

Construction of exact periodic wave and solitary wave solutions for the long–short wave resonance equations by VIM

In this paper, He’s variational iteration method is employed to construct periodic wave and solitary wave solutions for the long–short wave resonance equations. The chosen initial solution can be in soliton form with some unknown parameters, which can be determined in the solution procedure. Some examples are given. The results reveal that the method is very effective and convenient.     

Clemens–Schmid exact sequence in characteristic p

For a semistable family of varieties over a curve in characteristic $p$ , we prove the existence of a “Clemens–Schmid type” long exact sequence for the $p$ -adic cohomology. The cohomology groups appearing in such a long exact sequence are defined locally.     

Virtually abelian Kähler and projective groups

We characterise the virtually abelian groups which are fundamental groups of compact Kähler manifolds and of smooth projective varieties. We show that a virtually abelian group is Kähler if and only if it is projective. In particular, this allows to describe the Kähler condition for such groups in terms of integral symplectic representations.     

Dulac–Cherkas criterion for exact estimation of the number of limit cycles of autonomous systems on a plane

The problem of exact nonlocal estimation of the number of limit cycles surrounding one point of rest in a simply connected domain of the real phase space is considered for autonomous systems of differential equations with continuously differentiable right-hand sides. Three approaches to solving this problem are proposed that are based on sequential two-step usage of the Dulac–Cherkas criterion, which makes it possible to find closed transversal curves dividing the connected domain in doubly connected subdomains that surround the point of rest, with the system having precisely one limit cycle in each of them. The effectiveness of these approaches is exemplified with polynomial Liènard systems, a generalized van der Pol system, and a perturbed Hamiltonian system. For some systems, the derived estimate holds true in the entire phase space.     

Chromatic sums of 2-edge-connected maps on the projective plane

This paper provides the chromatic sum function equations of rooted 2-edge-connected maps on the projective plane. The enumerating function equations of rooted 2-edge-connected loopless maps and rooted 2-edge-connected bipartite maps on the projective plane are derived by the chromatic sum function equation of rooted 2-edge-connected maps on the projective plane.     

Integrability and exact solutions of the nonautonomous mixed mKdV–sinh–Gordon equation

In this paper, a nonautonomous mixed mKdV–sinh–Gordon equation with one arbitrary time-dependent variable coefficient is discussed in detail. It is proved that the equation passes the Painlevé test in the case of positive and negative resonances, respectively. Furthermore, a dependent variable transformation is introduced to get its bilinear form. Then, soliton, negaton, positon and interaction solutions are introduced by means of the Wronskian representation. Velocities are found to depend on the time-dependent variable coefficient appearing in the equation and this leads to a wide range of interesting behaviours. The singularities and asymptotic estimate of these solutions are discussed. At last, the superposition formulae for these solutions are also constructed.     

The space of 4-ended solutions to the Allen–Cahn equation in the plane

We are interested in entire solutions of the Allen–Cahn equation Δu−F^′(u)=0$\mathrm{\Delta }u-F^{\prime }(u)=0$ which have some special structure at infinity. In this equation, the function F is an even, double well potential. The solutions we are interested in have their zero set asymptotic to 4 half oriented affine lines at infinity and, along each of these half affine lines, the solutions are asymptotic to the one dimensional heteroclinic solution: such solutions are called 4-ended solutions  . The main result of our paper states that, for any θ∈(0,π/2)$\theta \in (0,\pi /2)$, there exists a 4-ended solution of the Allen–Cahn equation whose zero set is at infinity asymptotic to the half oriented affine lines making the angles θ  , π−θ$\pi -\theta$, π+θ$\pi +\theta$ and 2π−θ$2\pi -\theta$ with the x-axis. This paper is part of a program whose aim is to classify all 2k  -ended solutions of the Allen–Cahn equation in dimension 2, for k?2$k?2$.     

The crossing number of a projective graph is quadratic in the face–width

We show that for each integer $g⩾0$ there is a constant $c_g>0$ such that every graph that embeds in the projective plane with sufficiently large face–width r has crossing number at least $c_g{r}^2$ in the orientable surface ${\mathrm{\Sigma }}_g$ of genus g. As a corollary, we give a polynomial time constant factor approximation algorithm for the crossing number of projective graphs with bounded degree.

The construction of numerically Calabi–Yau orders on projective surfaces

In this paper, we construct a vast collection of maximal numerically Calabi–Yau orders utilising a noncommutative analogue of the well-known commutative cyclic covering trick. Such orders play an integral role in the Mori program for orders on projective surfaces and although we know a substantial amount about them, there are relatively few known examples.
