The three-dimensional theory of elasticity is used to study the free vibrations of an anisotropic hollow cylinder with different boundary conditions at the ends. The relevant problem is solved by a numerical-and-analytic method. Spline approximation and collocation is used to reduce the partial differential equations of elasticity to a boundary-value problem for a system of ordinary differential equations of high order for the radial coordinate, which is solved using the stable discrete-orthogonalization and incremental-search methods. The calculated results for an orthotropic inhomogeneous cylinder with boundary conditions of several types are presented Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 10, pp. 74–85, October 2008.  相似文献

Analytical solutions to rotating functionally graded hollow and solid long cylinders are developed. Young's modulus and material density of the cylinder are assumed to vary exponentially in the radial direction, and Poisson's ratio is assumed to be constant. A unified governing equation is derived from the equilibrium equations, compatibility equation, deformation theory of elasticity and the stress-strain relationship. The governing second-order differential equation is solved in terms of a hypergeometric function for the elastic deformation of rotating functionally graded cylinders. Dependence of stresses in the cylinder on the inhomogeneous parameters, geometry and boundary conditions is examined and discussed. The proposed solution is validated by comparing the results for rotating functionally graded hollow and solid cylinders with the results for rotating homogeneous isotropic cylinders. In addition, a viscoelastic solution to the rotating viscoelastic cylinder is presented, and dependence of stresses in hollow and solid cylinders on the time parameter is examined.  相似文献

The steady mixed convection boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a horizontal circular cylinder in a stream flowing vertically upwards is numerically studied for both cases of heated and cooled cylinders. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into dimensionless forms using an appropriate transformation and then solved numerically using the Keller-box method. The comparison between the solutions obtained and those for a Newtonian fluid is found to be very good. Effects of the mixed convection and elasticity parameters on the skin friction and heat transfer coefficients for a fluid having the Prandtl number equal to one are also discussed. It is found that for some values of the viscoelastic parameter and some negative values of the mixed convection parameter (opposing flow) the boundary layer separates from the cylinder. Heating the cylinder delays separation and can, if the cylinder is warm enough, suppress the separation completely. Similar to the case of a Newtonian fluid, cooling the cylinder brings the separation point nearer to the lower stagnation point. However, for a sufficiently cold cylinder there will not be a boundary layer.  相似文献

A contact problem for an infinitely long hollow cylinder is considered. The cylinder is compressed by an outer rigid ring with a circular profile. The material of the cylinder is linearly elastic and isotropic. The extent of the contact region and the pressure distribution are sought. Governing equations of the elasticity theory for the axisymmetric problem in cylindrical coordinates are solved by Fourier transforms and general expressions for the displacements are obtained. Using the boundary conditions, the formulation is reduced to a singular integral equation. This equation is solved by using the Gaussian quadrature. Then the pressure distribution on the contact region is determined. Numerical results for the contact pressure and the distance characterizing the contact area are given in graphical form. The mixed convection boundary layer of a viscoelastic fluid past a circular cylinder with constant heat flux is discussed. The boundary layer equations are an order higher than those for the Newtonian (viscous) fluid and the adherence boundary conditions are insufficient to determine the solution of these equations completely. The governing non-similar partial differential equations are transformed into dimensionless forms and then solved numerically using the Keller-box method by augmenting an extra boundary condition at infinity. Numerical results obtained in the form of velocity distributions and temperature profiles are presented for a range of values of the dimensionless viscoelastic fluid parameter. It is found that for some values of the viscoelastic parameter and some negative values of the mixed convection parameter (opposing flow) the momentum boundary layer separates from the cylinder. Heating the cylinder delays separation and can, if the cylinder is warm enough, suppress the separation completely. Similar to the case of a Newtonian fluid, cooling the cylinder brings the separation point nearer to the lower stagnation point.  相似文献

Free vibrations of a beam-mass-spring system with different boundary conditions are analyzed both analytically and numerically. In the analytical analysis, the system is divided into three subsystems and the effects of the spring and the point mass are considered as internal boundary conditions between any two neighboring subsystems. The partial differential equations governing the motion of the subsystems and internal boundary conditions are then solved using the method of separation of variables. In the numerical analysis, the whole system is considered as a single system and the effects of the spring and point mass are introduced using the Dirac delta function. The Galerkin method is then employed to discretize the equation of motion and the resulting set of ordinary differential equations are solved via eigenvalue analysis.Analytical and numerical results are shown to be in very good agreement.  相似文献

The present paper concerns the investigation of the stress, temperature and magnetic fields in an isotropic elastic cylinder in a primary magenetic field when the curved surface of the cylinder subject to certain boundary conditions. The system of fundamental equations is solved by means of a finite difference method and the numerical calculations are carried out for the temperature, the components of displacement and the components of stresses with time and through the thickness of the cylinder. The results indicate that the effects of inhomogeneity and magnetic field are very pronounced.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the bending problem of nanobeams starting from a nonlocal thermodynamic approach. A new coupled nonlocal model, depending on two nonlocal parameters, is obtained by using a suitable definition of the free energy. Unlike previous approaches which directly substitute the expression of the nonlocal stress into the classical equilibrium equations, the proposed approach provides a methodology to recover nonlocal models starting from the free energy function. The coupled model can then be specialized to obtain a nanobeam formulation based on the Eringen nonlocal elasticity theory and on the gradient elastic model. The variational formulations are consistently provided and the differential equations with the related boundary conditions are thus derived. Nanocantilevers are solved in a closed-form and numerical results are presented to investigate the influence of the nonlocal parameters.  相似文献

A numerical study of the steady conjugate free convection over a vertical slender, hollow circular cylinder with the inner surface at a constant temperature and embedded in a porous medium is reported. The governing boundary layer equations for the fluid-saturated porous medium over the cylinder along with the one-dimensional heat conduction equation for the cylinder are cast into dimensionless form, by using a non-similarity transformation. The resulting non-similarity equations with their corresponding boundary conditions are solved by using the Keller box method. Emphasis is placed on the effects caused by the wall conduction parameter, p, and calculations have covered a wide range of this parameter. Heat transfer results including the temperature profiles, the interface temperature profiles and the local Nusselt number are presented. Received on 17 November 1997  相似文献

An axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a fluid over a slender cylinder are investigated numerically. The effects of viscous dissipation, thermal radiation, and surface transverse curvature are taken into account in the simulations. For this purpose, the governing partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations by using appropriate similarity transformations. The resultant ordinary differential equations along with appropriate boundary conditions are solved by the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method combined with the shooting technique. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles, local skin friction coefficient, and Nusselt number are analyzed.  相似文献

The spatial problems of elasticity are mainly solved in displacements [1, 2], i.e., the Lamé equations are taken as the initial equations. This is related to the lack of general solutions for the system of basic equations of elasticity expressed in stresses. In this connection, a new variational statement of the problem in stresses was developed in [3, 4]; this statement consists in solving six generalized equations of compatibility for six independent components of the stress tensor, while the three equilibrium equations are transferred to the set of boundary conditions. This method is more convenient for the numerical solution of problems in stresses and has been tested when solving various boundary value problems. In the present paper, analyzing the completeness of the Saint-Venant identities and using the Maxwell stress functions, we obtain a new resolving system of three differential equations of strain compatibility for the three desired stress functions φ, ξ, and ψ. This system is an alternative to the three Lamé equilibrium equations for three desired displacement components u, v, w and is simpler in structure. Moreover, both of these systems of resolving equations can be solved by the new recursive-operator method [5, 6]. In contrast to well-known methods for constructing general solutions of linear differential equations and their systems, the solutions obtained by the recursive-operator method are constructed as operator-power series acting on arbitrary analytic functions of real variables (not necessarily harmonic), and the series coefficients are determined from recursive relations (matrix in the case of systems of equations). The arbitrary functions contained in the general solution can be determined directly either from the boundary conditions (the obtained system of inhomogeneous equations with a right-hand side can also be solved by the recursive-operator method [6]) or by choosing them from various classes of analytic functions (elementary, special); a complete set of particular solutions can be obtained in the same function classes, and the coefficients of linear combinations of particular solutions can be determined by the Trefftz method, the least-squares method, and the collocation method.  相似文献

Drained or undrained cylindrical specimens under axisymmetric loading are commonly used in laboratory testing of soils and rocks. Poroelastic cylindrical elements are also encountered in applications related to bioengineering and advanced materials. This paper presents an analytical solution for an axisymmetrically-loaded solid poroelastic cylinder of finite length with permeable (drained) or impermeable (undrained) hydraulic boundary conditions. The general solutions are derived by first applying Laplace transforms with respect to the time and then solving the resulting governing equations in terms of Fourier–Bessel series, which involve trigonometric and hyperbolic functions with respect to the z-coordinate and Bessel functions with respect to the r-coordinate. Several time-dependent boundary-value problems are solved to demonstrate the application of the general solution to practical situations. Accuracy of the numerical solution is confirmed by comparing with the existing solutions for the limiting cases of a finite elastic cylinder and a poroelastic cylinder under plane strain conditions. Selected numerical results are presented for different cylinder aspect ratios, loading and hydraulic boundary conditions to demonstrate the key features of the coupled poroelastic response.  相似文献

Axisymmetric stresses around a cylindrical crack in an interfacial cylindrical layer between an infinite elastic medium with a cylindrical cavity and a circular elastic cylinder made of another material have been determined. The material constants of the layer vary continuously from those of the infinite medium to those of the cylinder. Tension surrounding the cylinder and perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder is applied to the composite materials. To solve this problem, the interfacial layer is divided into several layers with different material properties. The boundary conditions are reduced to dual integral equations. The differences in the crack faces are expanded in a series so as to satisfy the conditions outside the crack. The unknown coefficients in the series are solved using the conditions inside the crack. Numerical calculations are performed for several thicknesses of the interfacial layer. Using these numerical results, the stress intensity factors are evaluated for infinitesimal thickness of the layer.  相似文献

A detailed variational formulation is provided for a simplified strain gradient elasticity theory by using the principle of minimum total potential energy. This leads to the simultaneous determination of the equilibrium equations and the complete boundary conditions of the theory for the first time. To supplement the stress-based formulation, the coordinate-invariant displacement form of the simplified strain gradient elasticity theory is also derived anew. In view of the lack of a consistent and complete formulation, derivation details are included for the tutorial purpose. It is shown that both the stress and displacement forms of the simplified strain gradient elasticity theory obtained reduce to their counterparts in classical elasticity when the strain gradient effect (a measure of the underlying material microstructure) is not considered. As a direct application of the newly obtained displacement form of the theory, the problem of a pressurized thick-walled cylinder is analytically solved. The solution contains a material length scale parameter and can account for microstructural effects, which is qualitatively different from Lamé’s solution in classical elasticity. In the absence of the strain gradient effect, this strain gradient elasticity solution reduces to Lamé’s solution. The numerical results reveal that microstructural effects can be large and Lamé’s solution may not be accurate for materials exhibiting significant microstructure dependence.  相似文献

A numerical study of a non-Darcy mixed convective heat and mass transfer flow over a vertical surface embedded in a dispersion, melting, and thermal radiation is porous medium under the effects of double investigated. The set of governing boundary layer equations and the boundary conditions is transformed into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations with the relevant boundary conditions. The transformed equations are solved numerically by using the Chebyshev pseudospectral method. Comparisons of the present results with the existing results in the literature are made, and good agreement is found. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature, concentration profiles, and local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are discussed for various values of physical parameters.  相似文献

A dynamic boundary-value problem of coupled thermoelasticity for a finite cylinder with mixed boundary conditions is solved. The problem is reduced to a system of four singular integral equations solved by the mechanical-quadrature method. A numerical experiment is conducted to obtain amplitude-frequency characteristics for finite cylinders with different cross sections. An analysis is performed to study a laminar boundary layer flow over a porous flat plate with injection or suction imposed at the wall. The basic equations of this problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of appropriate transformations. These equations are solved analytically by the optimal homotopy asymptotic method (OHAM), and the solutions are compared with the numerical solution (NS). The effect of uniform suction/injection on the heat transfer and velocity profile is discussed. A constant surface temperature in thermal boundary conditions is used for the horizontal flat plate.  相似文献

An explicit formulation to study nonlinear waves interacting with a submerged body in an ideal fluid of infinite depth is presented. The formulation allows one to decompose the nonlinear wave–body interaction problem into body and free‐surface problems. After the decomposition, the body problem satisfies a modified body boundary condition in an unbounded fluid domain, while the free‐surface problem satisfies modified nonlinear free‐surface boundary conditions. It is then shown that the nonlinear free‐surface problem can be further reduced to a closed system of two nonlinear evolution equations expanded in infinite series for the free‐surface elevation and the velocity potential at the free surface. For numerical experiments, the body problem is solved using a distribution of singularities along the body surface and the system of evolution equations, truncated at third order in wave steepness, is then solved using a pseudo‐spectral method based on the fast Fourier transform. A circular cylinder translating steadily near the free surface is considered and it is found that our numerical solutions show excellent agreement with the fully nonlinear solution using a boundary integral method. We further validate our solutions for a submerged circular cylinder oscillating vertically or fixed under incoming nonlinear waves with other analytical and numerical results. This paper describes the modified bending equations of layered orthotropic plates in the first approximation. The approximation of the solution of the equation of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity by the Legendre polynomial segments is used to obtain differential equations of the elastic layer. For the approximation of equilibrium equations and boundary conditions of three-dimensional theory of elasticity, several approximations of each desired function (stresses and displacements) are used. The stresses at the internal points of the plate are determined from the defining equations for the orthotropic material, averaged with respect to the plate thickness. The construction of the bending equations of layered plates for each layer is carried out with the help of the elastic layer equations and the conjugation conditions on the boundaries between layers, which are conditions for the continuity of normal stresses and displacements. The numerical solution of the problem of bending of the rectangular layered plate obtained with the help of modified equations is compared with an analytical solution. It is determined that the maximum error in determining the stresses does not exceed 3 %.  相似文献
