On Finite Complete Presentations and Exact Decompositions of Semigroups

We prove that given a finite (zero) exact right decomposition (M, T) of a semigroup S, if M is defined by a finite complete presentation, then S is also defined by a finite complete presentation. Exact right decompositions are natural generalizations to semigroups of coset decompositions in groups. As a consequence, we deduce that any Zappa–Szép extension of a monoid defined by a finite complete presentation, by a finite monoid, is also defined by such a presentation.

It is also proved that a semigroup M ⁰[A; I, J; P], where A and P satisfy some very general conditions, is also defined by a finite complete presentation.     

On a Class of Subdirect Products of Left and Right Clifford Semigroups

Abstract

Regular semigroups S with the property eS ? Se or Se ? eS for all idempotents e ∈ S include all left and right Clifford semigroups. Characterizations of such semigroups are given and their structure investigated, in particular in terms of spined products of left and right Clifford semigroups with respect to Clifford semigroups.

In this article, we prove that the full transformation semigroup on a finite set is an amalgamation base for finite semigroups.

A new concept Graded Finite Poset is proposed in this paper.Through discussing some basic properties of it,we come to that the direct product of graded finite posets is connected if and only if every graded finite poset is connected.The graded function of a graded finite poset is unique if and only if the graded finite poset is connected.     

On the Cayley Graphs of Brandt Semigroups

In this article, the Cayley graphs of Brandt semigroups are investigated. The basic structures and properties of this kind of Cayley graphs are given, and a necessary and sufficient condition is given for the components of Cayley graphs of Brandt semigroups to be strongly regular. As an application, the generalized Petersen graph and k-partite graph, which cannot be obtained from the Cayley graphs of groups, can be constructed as a component of the Cayley graphs of Brandt semigroups.     

Embedding Semigroups with Associate Subgroups into Semidirect Products

A semigroup S is said to have an associate subgroup G if, for each s ∈ S, there is a unique s* ∈ G such that ss*s = s. If the identity 1 _G of G is medial, i.e., c1 _G c = c holds for each c being a product of idempotents, we show that S is isomorphic to a certain subsemigroup of a semidirect product of an idempotent generated semigroup C by G. If additionally S is orthodox, we may choose C to be a band, belonging to the band variety, generated by the band of idempotents of S.

The New Structure Theorem of Right-e Wlpp Semigroups

Wlpp semigroups are generalizations of lpp semigroups and regular semi-groups. In this paper, we consider some kinds of wlpp semigroups, namely right-e wlpp semigroups. It is proved that such a semigroup S , if and only if S is the strong semilattice of L-right cancellative planks;also if and only if S is a spined product of a right-e wlpp semigroup and a left normal band.     

On E-Unitary Regular Semigroups

Let Pn be a path graph with n vertices, and let Fn = Pn ∪ {c}, where c is adjacent to all vertices of Pn. The resulting graph is called a fan-shaped graph. The corresponding zero-divisor semigroups have been completely determined by Tang et al. for n = 2, 3, 4 and by Wu et al. for n ≥ 6, respectively. In this paper, we study the case for n = 5, and give all the corresponding zero-divisor semigroups of Fn.

Zero-Divisor Semigroups and Some Simple Graphs

In this article, we study commutative zero-divisor semigroups determined by graphs. We prove that for all n ≥ 4, the complete graph K _n together with two end vertices has a unique corresponding zero-divisor semigroup, while the complete graph K _n together with three end vertices has no corresponding semigroups. We determine all the twenty zero-divisor semigroups whose zero-divisor graphs are the complete graph K ₃ together with an end vertex.

In this paper,fuzzy quasi-ideals of ordered semigroups are characterized by the properties of their level subsets.Furthermore,we introduce the notion of completely semiprime fuzzy quasi-ideals of ordered semigroups and characterize strongly regular ordered semigroups in terms of completely semiprime fuzzy quasi-ideals.Finally,we investigate the characterizations and decompositions of left and right simple ordered semigroups by means of fuzzy quasi-ideals.     

Note on Direct Products of Certain Classes of Finite Groups

Direct products of solvable groups in which Sylow-permutability is a transitive relation are analyzed. Such groups are called 𝒫𝒮𝒯 groups, and it is well known that if the orders of two 𝒫𝒮𝒯 groups are relatively prime, then their direct product is again a 𝒫𝒮𝒯 group. Examples suggest that for solvable groups it is not necessary to have relatively prime orders to stay in the class. Some characterizations are provided, and also direct products of some other classes are discussed.     

Identities of Semigroups of Triangular Matrices over Finite Fields

It is proved that the semigroup of all triangular n × n matrices over a finite field K is inherently nonfinitely based if and only if n > 3 and |K|> 2.     

Direct products of automorphism groups of graphs

In this article we study the product action of the direct product of automorphism groups of graphs. We generalize the results of Watkins [J. Combin Theory 11 (1971), 95–104], Nowitz and Watkins [Monatsh. Math. 76 (1972), 168–171] and W. Imrich [Israel J. Math. 11 (1972), 258–264], and we show that except for an infinite family of groups S_n × S_n, n≥2 and three other groups D₄ × S₂, D₄ × D₄ and S₄ × S₂ × S₂, the direct product of automorphism groups of two graphs is itself the automorphism group of a graph. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
