Let X be an operator space, let φ be a product on X, and let (X,φ) denote the algebra that one obtains. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the bilinear mapping φ for the algebra (X,φ) to have a completely isometric representation as an algebra of operators on some Hilbert space. In particular, we give an elegant geometrical characterization of such products by using the Haagerup tensor product. Our result makes no assumptions about identities or approximate identities. Our proof is independent of the earlier result of Blecher, Ruan and Sinclair [D.P. Blecher, Z.-J. Ruan, A.M. Sinclair, A characterization of operator algebras, J. Funct. Anal. 89 (1) (1990) 188-201] which solved the case when the bilinear mapping has an identity of norm one, and our result is used to give a simple direct proof of this earlier result. We also develop further the connections between quasi-multipliers of operator spaces and their representations on a Hilbert space or their embeddings in the second dual, and show that the quasi-multipliers of operator spaces defined in [M. Kaneda, V.I. Paulsen, Quasi-multipliers of operator spaces, J. Funct. Anal. 217 (2) (2004) 347-365] coincide with their C-algebraic counterparts.  相似文献

Let B be a unital commutative semi-simple Banach algebra. We study endomorphisms of B which are also quasicompact operators or Riesz operators. Clearly compact and power compact endomorphisms are Riesz and hence quasicompact. Several general theorems about quasicompact endomorphisms are proved, and these results are then applied to the question of when quasicompact or Riesz endomorphisms of certain algebras are necessarily power compact.  相似文献

A continuous one-parameter group of unitary isometries of a right-Hilbert -bimodule induces a quasi-free dynamics on the Cuntz-Pimsner -algebra of the bimodule and on its Toeplitz extension. The restriction of such a dynamics to the algebra of coefficients of the bimodule is trivial, and the corresponding KMS states of the Toeplitz-Cuntz-Pimsner and Cuntz-Pimsner -algebras are characterized in terms of traces on the algebra of coefficients. This generalizes and sheds light onto various earlier results about KMS states of the gauge actions on Cuntz algebras, Cuntz-Krieger algebras, and crossed products by endomorphisms. We also obtain a more general characterization, in terms of KMS weights, for the case in which the inducing isometries are not unitary, and accordingly, the restriction of the quasi-free dynamics to the algebra of coefficients is nontrivial.  相似文献

Motivated by a result on weak Markov dilations, we define a notion of characteristic function for ergodic and coisometric row contractions with a one-dimensional invariant subspace for the adjoints. This extends a definition given by G. Popescu. We prove that our characteristic function is a complete unitary invariant for such tuples and show how it can be computed.  相似文献

We prove that every Kirchberg algebra in the UCT class has nuclear dimension 1. We first show that Kirchberg 2-graph algebras with trivial K0K0 and finite K1K1 have nuclear dimension 1 by adapting a technique developed by Winter and Zacharias for Cuntz algebras. We then prove that every Kirchberg algebra in the UCT class is a direct limit of 2-graph algebras to obtain our main theorem.  相似文献

Frolík’s theorem says that a homeomorphism from a certain kind of topological space to itself decomposes the space into the clopen set of fixed points together with three clopen sets, each of whose images is disjoint from the original set. Stone’s theorem translates this result to a corresponding theorem about the Riesz space of continuous functions on the topological space. We prove a theorem analogous to that for Riesz spaces in the much more general setting of (possibly noncommutative) lattice-ordered groups and group-endomorphisms. The groups to which our result applies satisfy a weak condition, introduced by Abramovich and Kitover, on the polars; the images of our endomorphisms have a kind of order-density on their polars; the double polars of the images are cardinal summands; and the endomorphisms themselves are disjointness-preserving in both directions. We explain how to extend our result to larger groups to which it does not apply, and, to give additional insight, we provide many examples.  相似文献

Abstract

Given a C*-algebra A and a suitable set of derivations on A, we consider the algebras A n of n-differentiable elements of A as described in [B], before passing to an analysis of important classes of bounded linear maps between two such spaces. We show that even in this general framework, all the main features of the theory for the case C(m)(U)C (p) (V) where U and V are open balls in suitable Banach spaces, are preserved (see for example [A-G-L], [Gu-L], [Ja] and [L]). As part of the theory developed we obtain a non-trivial extension of the Kleinecke-Shirokov theorem in the category of C*-algebras to unbounded partially defined *-derivations. This indicates the existence of a single mathematical principle governing both the non-increasibility of differentiability by continuous homomorphisms and the untenability of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle for bounded observables.  相似文献

Lubin conjectures that for an invertible series to commute with a noninvertible series with only simple roots of iterates, two such commuting power series must be endomorphisms of a single formal group. Let S be a monoid of endomorphisms of a quasiprojective variety V defined over a global field K. We prove a lower bound for the size of the reduction modulo places of K of the orbit of any point αV(K) under the action of the endomorphisms from S. We also prove a similar result in the context of Drinfeld modules. Our results may be considered as dynamical variants of Artin's primitive root conjecture.  相似文献

Graphs without proper endomorphisms are the subject of this article. It is shown that the join of two graphs has this property if and only if both summands have it, and that the lexicographic product of a complete graph or an odd circuit as first factors has this property if and only if the second factor has it. A somewhat stronger theorem is proved if the lexicographic product has no proper strong endomorphism. The corresponding result for the join is the same as for usual endomorphisms.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we answer a question raised in [12] in the affirmative, namely that the essential minimum modulus of an element in a von Neumann algebra, relative to any norm closed two-sided ideal, is equal to the minimum modulus of the element perturbed by an element from the ideal. As a corollary of this result, we extend some basic perturbation results on semi-Fredholm elements to a von Neumann algebra setting. We then characterize the semi-Fredholm elements in terms of the points of continuity of the essential minimum modulus function.  相似文献

A reduction formula for compressions of von Neumann algebra II–factors arising as free products is proved. This shows that the fundamental group is for some such algebras. Additionally, by taking a sort of free product with an unbounded semicircular element, continuous one parameter groups of trace scaling automorphisms on II–factors are constructed; this produces type III factors with core , where can be a full II–factor without the Haagerup approximation property. We show that semigroup C*-algebras attached to ax+bax+b-semigroups over rings of integers determine number fields up to arithmetic equivalence, under the assumption that the number fields have the same number of roots of unity. For finite Galois extensions, this means that the semigroup C*-algebras are isomorphic if and only if the number fields are isomorphic.  相似文献

This paper describes the quality of convergence to an infinitely divisible law relative to free multiplicative convolution. We show that convergence in distribution for products of identically distributed and infinitesimal free random variables implies superconvergence of their probability densities to the density of the limit law. Superconvergence to the marginal law of free multiplicative Brownian motion at a specified time is also studied. In the unitary case, the superconvergence to free Brownian motion and that to the Haar measure are shown to be uniform over the entire unit circle, implying further a free entropic limit theorem and a universality result for unitary free Lévy processes. Finally, the method of proofs on the positive half-line gives rise to a new multiplicative Boolean to free Bercovici–Pata bijection.  相似文献

We prove a decomposition lemma for elementary tensors and present an analogous result of a (DN)-(Ω) splitting theorem for the theory of tensoring an exact sequence of Fréchet spaces with a (DF)-space.
