IfS is a compact Hausdorff space of finite covering dimension and (E, τ) is a real or complex topological vector space (not necessarily locally convex), we prove a Weierstrass-Stone theorem for subsets ofC(S;E), the space of all continuous functions fromS intoE, equipped with the topology of uniform convergence overS.  相似文献

Blending methods of Topological Dynamics and Control Theory, we develop a new technique to construct compact-Lie-group-valued minimal cocycles arising as fundamental matrix solutions of linear differential equations with recurrent coefficients subject to a given constraint. The precise requirement on the coefficients is that they belong to a specified closed convex subsetS of the Lie algebraL of the Lie group. Our result is proved for a very thin class of cocycles, since the dimension ofS is allowed to be much smaller than that ofL, and the only assumption onS is thatL 0(S) =L, whereL 0(S) is the ideal ofL(S) generated by the difference setS − S, andL(S) is the Lie subalgebra ofL generated byS. This covers a number of differential equations arising in Mathematical Physics, and applies in particular to the widely studied example of the Rabi oscillator. On the Extension of Isometries between Unit Spheres of E and C(Ω)   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
In this paper,we study the extension of isometries between the unit spheres of some Banach spaces E and the spaces C(Ω). We obtain that if the set sm.S1(E) of all smooth points of the unit sphere S1(E) is dense in S1(E),then under some condition, every surjective isometry V0 from S1(E) onto S1(C(Ω)) can be extended to be a real linearly isometric map V of E onto C(Ω).From this resultwe also obtain some corollaries. This is the first time we study this problem on different typical spaces, and the method of proof is also very different too.  相似文献

LetA=A(E, ) denote either the 3-dimensional or 4-dimensional Sklyanin algebra associated to an elliptic curveE and a point E. Assume that the base field is algebraically closed, and that its characteristic does not divide the dimension ofA. It is known thatA is a finite module over its center if and only if is of finite order. Generators and defining relations for the centerZ(A) are given. IfS=Proj(Z(A)) andA is the sheaf ofO S -algebras defined byA(S (f))=A[f –1]0 then the centerL ofA is described. For example, for the 3-dimensional Sklyanin algebra we obtain a new proof of M. Artin's result thatSpec L2. However, for the 4-dimensional Sklyanin algebra there is not such a simple result: althoughSpec L is rational and normal, it is singular. We describe its singular locus, which is also the non-Azumaya locus ofA.  相似文献

We prove that ifE is a Banach lattice andS, T ∈ ℒ (E) are such that 0≦sT,r(s)=r(T) andr(T) is a Riesz point ofσ(T) thenr(S) is a Riesz point ofσ(S). We prove also some results on compact positive perturbations of positive irreducible operators and lattice homomorphisms.  相似文献

Let ψ be a compactly supported closed differential form on the e[P] of the Borel–Serre boundary of an arithmetically defined locally symmetric space S. A closed compactly supported differential form E (ψ) on S is defined by a pseudo-Eisenstein series attached to ψ. Its degree is the degree of ψ shifted by the codimension of e[P] in S. Non-vanishing results for the cohomology class [E(ψ)] represented by E(ψ) are obtained by use of Poincaré duality and results on cohomology classes represented by ordinary Eisenstein series. For any listL ofn numbers in (0, 1) letL* denote the minimum number of unit capacity bins needed to pack the elements ofL. We prove that, for every positive ε, there exists anO(n)-time algorithmS such that, ifS(L) denotes the number of bins used byS forL, thenS(L)/L*≦1+ε for anyL providedL* is sufficiently large. Given a setS ofn points inR d , a subsetX of sized is called ak-simplex if the hyperplane aff(X) has exactlyk points on one side. We studyE d (k,n), the expected number of k-simplices whenS is a random sample ofn points from a probability distributionP onR d . WhenP is spherically symmetric we prove thatE d (k, n)cn d−1 WhenP is uniform on a convex bodyKR 2 we prove thatE 2 (k, n) is asymptotically linear in the rangecnkn/2 and whenk is constant it is asymptotically the expected number of vertices on the convex hull ofS. Finally, we construct a distributionP onR 2 for whichE 2((n−2)/2,n) iscn logn. The authors express gratitude to the NSF DIMACS Center at Rutgers and Princeton. The research of I. We construct the nonstandard hull of a not necessarily bounded strongly continuous representationU of the locally compact semigroupS on a Banach spaceE. Then we apply our results to the theory of the spectrum σ (U) ofU, mainly in cases whereS is an abelian group, e.g.S=R. First of all we obtain generalizations to the unbounded case of results known for the bounded one. Secondly we introduce the notion of the Riesz part R σ(U) of σ(U) and characterize those representations satisfying σ(U)=R σ(U). We illustrate the theory developed so far by applications to representations on Banach lattices. Dedicated to Prof. Dr. H. H. Schaefer on the occasion of his 60th birthday  相似文献

This paper considers the isometric extension problem concerning the mapping from the unit sphere S 1(E) of the normed space E into the unit sphere S 1(l (Γ)). We find a condition under which an isometry from S 1(E) into S 1(l (Γ)) can be linearly and isometrically extended to the whole space. Since l (Γ) is universal with respect to isometry for normed spaces, isometric extension problems on a class of normed spaces are solved. More precisely, if E and F are two normed spaces, and if V 0: S 1(E) → S 1(F) is a surjective isometry, where c 00(Γ) ⊆ Fl (Γ), then V 0 can be extended to be an isometric operator defined on the whole space. For any finite point setS inE d, an oriented matroid DOM (S) can be defined in terms of howS is partitioned by Euclidean hyperspheres. This oriented matroid is related to the Delaunay triangulation ofS and is realizable, because of thelifting property of Delaunay triangulations. We prove that the same construction of aDelaunay oriented matroid can be performed with respect to any smooth, strictly convex distance function in the planeE 2 (Theorem 3.5). For these distances, the existence of a Delaunay oriented matroid cannot follow from a lifting property, because Delaunay triangulations might be nonregular (Theorem 4.2(i). This is related to the fact that the Delaunay oriented matroid can be nonrealizable (Theorem 4.2(ii). Given a fixed setS ofn points inE 3 and a query plane, the halfspace range search problem asks for the retrieval of all points ofS on a chosen side of. We prove that withO(n(logn)8 (loglogn)4) storage it is possible to solve this problem inO(k+logn) time, wherek is the number of points to be reported. This result rests crucially on a new combinatorial derivation. We show that the total number ofj-sets (j=1, ...,k) realized by a set ofn points inE 3 isO(nk 5); ak-set is any subset ofS of sizek which can be separated from the rest ofS by a plane.Supported in part by NSF grants MCS 83-03925 and the Office of Naval Research and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency under contract N00014-83-K-0146 and ARPA Order No. 4786.Supported in part by Joint Services Electronics Program under Contract N00014-79-C-0424.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given, in module-theoretic terms, for the idealN(S) of the endomorphism ringS of a moduleM consisting of the endomorphisms with essential kernel to be nilpotent. This extends in a natural way several known results on the nilpotency ofN(S). WhenM is a quasi-injective module such thatS is right noetherian, it is shown thatS is right artinian if and only ifM has a finite rational Loewy series whose length is, in this case, equal to the index of nilpotency ofN(S). LetG be a finite group acting by automorphisms on an algebraS over some commutative ringk. We show that if the action ofG restricted to the center ofS is Galois in the sense of [C-H-R], thenHH *(S G)≊HH * (S) G. An analogous result holds for cyclic homology, provided the order ofG is invertible ink. The author was supported in part by a grant from the NSF.  相似文献

The structure of Schur algebrasS(2,r) over the integral domainZ is intensively studied from the quasi-hereditary algebra point of view. We introduce certain new bases forS(2,r) and show that the Schur algebraS(2,r) modulo any ideal in the defining sequence is still such a Schur algebra of lower degree inr. A Wedderburn-Artin decomposition ofS K (2,r) over a fieldK of characteristic 0 is described. Finally, we investigate the extension groups between two Weyl modules and classify the indecomposable Weyl-filtered modules for the Schur algebrasS Zp(2,r) withr<p 2 . It is proved that ifE is a separable Banach lattice withE′ weakly sequentially complete,F is a Banach space andT:E→F is a bounded linear operator withT′F′ non-separable, then there is a subspaceG ofE, isomorphic toC(Δ), such thatT G is an isomorphism, whereC(Δ) denotes the space of continuous real valued functions on the Cantor discontinuum. This generalizes an earlier result of the second-named author. A number of conditions are proved equivalent for a Banach latticeE to contain a subspace order isomorphic toC(Δ). Among them are the following:L 1 is lattice isomorphic to a sublattice ofE′;C(Δ)′ is lattice isomorphic to a sublattice ofE′; E contains an order bounded sequence with no weak Cauchy subsequence;E has a separable closed sublatticeF such thatF′ does not have a weak order unit. Simple graphs are considered. Let G be a graph andg(x) andf(x) integer-valued functions defined on V(G) withg(x)⩽f(x) for everyxɛV(G). For a subgraphH ofG and a factorizationF=|F 1,F 2,⃛,F 1| ofG, if |E(H)∩E(F 1)|=1,1⩽ij, then we say thatF orthogonal toH. It is proved that for an (mg(x)+k,mf(x) -k)-graphG, there exists a subgraphR ofG such that for any subgraphH ofG with |E(H)|=k,R has a (g,f)-factorization orthogonal toH, where 1⩽k<m andg(x)⩾1 orf(x)⩾5 for everyxɛV(G). LetX be any compact convex subset of a locally convex Hausdorff space andE be a complex Banach space. We denote byA(X, E) the space of all continuous and affineE-valued functions defined onX. In this paper we prove thatX is a Choquet simplex if and only if the dual ofA(X, E) is isometrically isomorphic by a selection map toM m (X, E*), the space ofE*-valued,w*-regular boundary measures onX. This extends and strengthens a result of G. M. Ustinov. To do this we show that for any compact convex setX, each element of the dual ofA(X, E) can be represented by a measure inM m (X, E*) with the same norm, and this representation is unique if and only ifX is a Choquet simplex. We also prove that ifX is metrizable andE is separable then there exists a selection map from the unit ball of the dual ofA(X, E) into the unit ball ofM m (X, E*) which is weak* to weak*-Borel measurable. This work will constitute a portion of the author's Ph.D. Thesis at the University of Illinois.  相似文献

Let g e (S) (respectively, g o (S)) be the number of even (respectively, odd) gaps of a numerical semigroup S. In this work we study and characterize the numerical semigroups S that verify 2|g e (S)−g o (S)|+1∈S. As a consequence we will see that every numerical semigroup can be represented by means of a numerical semigroup with maximal embedding dimension with all its minimal generators odd.
