Free vibration of a flexible plate floating on the free surface of a perfect incompressible finite-depth heavy liquid are studied. The problem is solved in the shallow water approximation. Conditions for the existence of discrete frequencies below the waveguide cutoff frequency and associated localized (nonpropagating) liquid vibration modes in the plate-liquid system are determined.  相似文献

Critical phenomena ind-dimensional ferromagnetic spherical models on hypercubic lattices with free surfaces are studied. The surface specific heat and surface susceptibilities are obtained. The exponents characterizing the divergence of these surface quantities at the bulk critical temperature are found to satisfy recently proposed scaling relations. The variation of the susceptibility with distance from the surface is also discussed. The author's recent scaling theory for surface properties is investigated in detail, and found to give an exact representation for the free energy of a three-dimensional spherical model of finite thickness in finite bulk and surface magnetic fields. A scaling form for the surface free energy is derived.  相似文献

In the domain of capillary waves, a bicubic dispersion relation is derived and analyzed for surface and internal capillary–gravitational waves in a three-layer liquid with a free surface. It is shown that the ratio of the internal wave amplitudes to the surface wave amplitudes is fairly large if the trivial condition of a “homogeneous liquid” is discarded. The amplitude ratio between the internal waves themselves (generated at different interfaces) may be both greater and smaller than unity depending on the physical parameters of the system. Specifically, it strongly depends on the densities of the layers and their thicknesses.  相似文献

The structure of the capillary-relaxation motion spectrum in a liquid with a charged free surface has been investigated taking into account the viscosity relaxation effect. On the basis of numerical analysis of the dispersion equation for the wave motion in a viscoelastic incompressible liquid, it is shown that for a given wave number the range of characteristic relaxation times in which relaxation-type wave motion exists is limited and expands with increasing wave number. The growth rate of instability of the charged liquid surface markedly depends on the characteristic relaxation time and increases with its growth; in liquids with elastic properties, the energy dissipation rate of capillary motion is enhanced. At a surface charge density that is supercritical for the onset of Tonks-Frenkel instability, both purely gravitational waves and waves of a relaxational nature exist.  相似文献

It is found theoretically that the critical conditions under which a charged liquid surface becomes unstable against the electric charge relax as a result of interaction between capillary-gravitational and convective flows in the liquid. As the surface charge density approaches a value critical in terms of development of Tonks-Frenkel instability, convection in the liquid arises at a temperature gradient however small, this effect depending on the liquid layer thickness.  相似文献

Studies of the mean spherical model with Coulomb interactions are continued, by considering a system on ad-dimensional lattice which is periodic ind–1 dimensions and has a free surface in the remaining dimension. A mathematical model is considered for the motion of a spacecraft with liquid masses on board. In contrast to the well-known approaches, the mobility of the liquid is already taken into account in the equations of programmed motion. An inertial floating lid model is formulated for this purpose. The mechanism of liquid oscillations and a mathematical model for dissipation of their energy are discussed. Patterns formed by centimeter scale bubbles on the free surface of a viscous liquid are investigated in a cylindrical container. These bubbles emerge periodically at the surface and interact with each other in the central zone. Their radial emission, due to interaction and radial surface flow, leads to the formation of a variety of patterns. Different star-like and spiral patterns appear spontaneously by increasing the bubble emergence frequency. It is found that these patterns are due to a constant angular shift in the bubble emission direction. Measurements of this angular shift show a supercritical bifurcation accompanied by a transition from a pattern of two opposed straight arms to spiral patterns. By applying the tools and concepts from the study of leaf arrangement in botany (phyllotaxis), the recognized patterns and the mechanism of the pattern formation are discussed. Close similarities to the leaf arrangement are found in the behavior of the angular shift and the patterns. These findings suggest that the observed patterns are formed by a packing mechanism of successively appearing elements (bubbles), which is similar to that of the leaves at the earliest stage of phyllotaxis.  相似文献

We analyze the analog of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability on the free surface of a superfluid liquid. This instability is induced by the relative motion of superfluid and normal components of the same liquid along the surface. The instability threshold is found to be independent of the value of viscosity, but turns out to be lower than in the absence of dissipation. The result is similar to that obtained for the interface between two sliding super-fluids (with different mechanisms of dissipation) and confirmed by the first experimental observation of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability on the interface between 3He-A and 3He-B by Blaauwgeers et al. Near-critical behavior of the free surface of a perfectly conducting liquid in an external electric field is considered. Based on an analysis of three-wave processes using the method of integral estimates, sufficient criteria for hard instability of a planar surface are formulated. It is shown that the higher-order nonlinearities do not saturate the instability, for which reason the growth of disturbances has an explosive character.  相似文献

The dynamics of the development of instability of the free surface of liquid helium, which is charged by electrons localized above it, is studied. It is shown that, if the charge completely screens the electric field above the surface and its magnitude is much larger than the instability threshold, the asymptotic behavior of the system can be described by the well-known 3D Laplacian growth equations. The integrability of these equations in 2D geometry makes it possible to describe the evolution of the surface up to the formation of singularities, viz., cuspidal point at which the electric field strength, the velocity of the liquid, and the curvature of its surface assume infinitely large values. The exact solutions obtained for the problem of the electrocapillary wave profile at the boundary of liquid helium indicate the tendency to a change in the surface topology as a result of formation of charged bubbles.  相似文献

The study is devoted to analysis of the formation of high-current electric discharges developing above the free surface of a liquid metal, deformed as a result of the interaction of the electric current passing through the liquid metal with the intrinsic magnetic field. We report on the electric characteristics of discharges and parameters of their initiation, consider the patterns of deformation of the free surface and the formation of electric discharges, describe the processes occurring in the system, and discuss the mechanism of cyclic formation of discharges above the liquid metal surface.  相似文献

The dispersion relation for the spectrum of capillary waves of a spherical layer of a viscous liquid coating a solid spherical core with a layer of finite thickness is introduced and analyzed. It is shown that the existence of two mechanisms for the viscous dissipation of the energy of the capillary-wave motions of the liquid, viz., damping in the bulk of the layer and on the solid core, leads to restriction of the spectrum of the realizable capillary waves of the liquid on both the high-and low-mode sides. At a fixed value of the system charge which is supercritical for the first several capillary modes, the maximum growth rates in the case of a small solid core are possessed by modes from the middle of the band of unstable modes, while in thin liquid layers the highest of the unstable modes have the largest growth rates. This points out differences in the realization of the instability of the charged surface of the spherical layer for small and large relative sizes of the solid core. Zh. Tekh. The spectrum of capillary-relaxational motions of a charged free liquid surface is analyzed. The analysis takes into account the effect of surface-tension relaxation and the existence of two relaxation times due to different physical mechanisms. Each relaxation mechanism is associated with certain liquid wave motions. The ratio of amplitudes of waves generated by different interfaces in stratified inhomogeneous liquid is analytically studied. The amplitudes of waves generated by the second interface depend on the initial conditions and can be greater or less than the amplitudes of waves generated by the third interface. The amplitude ratio of the external and internal waves significantly depends on the ratio of liquid densities and layer thicknesses. Substantial effect of the initial conditions is manifested as a variation in the ratio of the amplitudes of external and internal waves and the amplitude ratio of waves generated by different interfaces.  相似文献
