In this paper, theoretical calculations as well as numerical simulations are performed for the time-averaged acoustic force and torque on a rigid cylinder of arbitrary size in a fluid with low viscosity, i.e., the acoustic boundary layer is thin compared to the cylinder radius. An exact analytical solution and its approximation are proposed in the form of an infinite series including Bessel functions. These solutions can be evaluated easily by a mathematical software package such as mathematica and matlab. Three types of incident waves, plane traveling wave, plane standing wave, and dual orthogonal standing waves, are investigated in detail. It is found that for a small particle, the viscous effects for an incident standing wave may be neglected but those for an incident traveling wave are notable. A nonzero viscous torque is experienced by the rigid cylinder when subjected to dual orthogonal standing waves with a phase shift even when the cylinder is located at equilibrium positions without imposed acoustic forces. Furthermore, numerical simulations are carried out based on the FVM algorithm to verify the proposed theoretical formulas. The theoretical results and the numerical ones agree with each other very well in all the cases considered.  相似文献

The response of a composite panel to external forcing, with inclusion of fluid loading effects, is considered. Of the two strata comprising the composite panel one, backed by a vacuum, is of the conventional thin elastic plate or membrane kind, while the other, in contact with the fluid, is more like an elastic solid and may suffer significant compression. The behaviour of the acoustic field close to grazing incidence is examined, this behaviour being determined by that of the plane wave reflexion coefficient. In the absence of the upper stratum it is well known that the reflexion coefficient has the value ?1 around grazing incidence, so that direct and reflected fields from an external source cancel and preclude the propagation of a genuine acoustic field over the surface (a situation known in optics as the “Lloyd's mirror” effect). It is shown that, at any given frequency, an impedance for the upper stratum can be prescribed which will lead to the value +1 for the grazing incidence reflexion coefficient, and will thus obviate the severe power loss which would otherwise occur in directions close to the surface. Next the free subsonic surface waves which can exist in the coupled three-part (two-layer panel plus fluid) system are examined. It is shown analytically that, if the upper layer has low impedance controlled by stiffness forces, a new surface wave can exist in the system. This wave essentially involves the stiffness of the upper layer and the mass of the fluid, and has a wavenumber much higher than that of the surface wave in a single conventional panel. It is also shown from numerical studies that two subsonic surface waves will exist over quite a wide range of parameters, though not necessarily with the wide wavenumber separation of the low impedance case. A discussion is given of the possible importance of the high wavenumber mode in the case of excitation by high wavenumber boundary layer turbulence, and of the significance of two free subsonic surface wave modes in calculations of energy transmission over composite panels of the kind modelled here.  相似文献

The transmission of free waves across a rib is investigated on a singly ribbed panel. The panel is in the form of a membrane that is made to possess dispersive properties similar to those of a thin plate. Of particular interest in the investigation is the influence that fluid loading and compliant coating may have on the transmission. It is shown that the influence due to fluid loading is significant in the frequency range below, and especially in the vicinity of, the critical frequency. It is also shown that compliant coating can modify significantly the influence of fluid loading on the transmission.  相似文献

A coupled system consisting of a thin, infinite panel separating a fluid layer and a fluid half-space is considered. The response of the panel when driven by a point harmonic force is evaluated by using Hankel transform analysis in conjunction with complex variable integration techniques. The emphasis is placed on frequencies well below the panel critical frequency, on dense fluid loading, and on the condition of shallow layer depth. The analysis yields the free propagation wave numbers of the coupled system: below the critical frequency, all but one are complex. From the solutions of the response integrals, the panel flexural velocity, the acoustic pressures, the power transmitted into the structure and into the fluid layer, and the radiated acoustic power, are obtained.  相似文献

An analysis of the interaction of a pulse of Rayleigh waves on a plate with a rectangular flange or rib attached in the far field of its acoustic emission (AE) source is presented. A finite difference (FD) model is used to give numerical visualizations of the development of the complete wave-field propagating through the structure and also to give displacement data for selected points. An ‘energy partition model’, for Rayleigh wave propagation across the rib has been developed and is described. Ray theory wave arrival time calculations are given for the propagation of various mode-converted components transmitted across the flange. A series of experimental measurements of AE wave propagation across a T-butt welded rib on a plate were made and these are compared with the model predictions. The practical implications of these findings for acoustic emission monitoring of large structures of complex shape are discussed.  相似文献

This paper develops a three-dimensional analytical model of a fluid-loaded acoustic coating affixed to a rib-stiffened plate. The system is loaded by a plane wave that is harmonic both spatially and temporally. The model begins with Navier-Cauchy equations of motion for an elastic solid, which produces displacement fields that have unknown wave propagation coefficients. These are inserted into stress equations at the boundaries of the plate and the acoustic coating. These stress fields are coupled to the fluid field and the rib stiffeners with force balances. Manipulation of these equations develops an infinite number of indexed equations that are truncated and incorporated into a global matrix equation. This global matrix equation can be solved to determine the wave propagation coefficients. This produces analytical solutions to the systems’ displacements, stresses, and scattered pressure field. This model, unlike previously developed analytical models, has elastic behavior and thus incorporates higher order wave motion that makes it accurate at higher wavenumbers and frequencies. An example problem is investigated for three specific model results: (1) the dynamic response, (2) a sonar array embedded in the acoustic coating, and (3) the scattered pressure field. An expression for the high frequency limitation of the model is derived. It is shown that the ribs can have a significant impact on the structural acoustic response of the system.  相似文献

We discuss the properties of an analytical solution for waves in radiating fluids, with a view towards its implementation as a quantitative test of radiation hydrodynamics codes. A homogeneous radiating fluid in local thermodynamic equilibrium is periodically driven at the boundary of a one-dimensional domain, and the solution describes the propagation of the waves thus excited. Two modes are excited for a given driving frequency, generally referred to as a radiative acoustic wave and a radiative diffusion wave. While the analytical solution is well known, several features are highlighted here that require care during its numerical implementation. We compare the solution in a wide range of parameter space to a numerical integration with a Lagrangian radiation hydrodynamics code. Our most significant observation is that flux-limited diffusion does not preserve causality for waves on a homogeneous background.  相似文献

Materials with hysteretic non-linearity have the property of memorizing specific previous extrema in the stress/strain loading history. Because of this complexity, the analytical theory describing the non-linear evolution of acoustic waves in such materials is currently restricted to simplex wave propagation processes with a single minimum and a single maximum over a wave period. In the present paper a numerical model is presented which is valid for an arbitrary strain wave profile, and the results for the frequency-mixing process in acoustic waves composed initially of two harmonic frequency components are analyzed. The model simulations demonstrate that an initially complex wave transforms into a simplex wave during propagation. In addition, we have studied the mutual influence of the initial frequency components, and we have found regimes of induced absorption and induced transparency.  相似文献

The interaction of an incident sound wave with an acoustically impenetrable two-layer barrier is considered. Of particular interest is the presence of several acoustic wave components in the shadow region of this barrier. A finite difference model capable of simulating this geometry is validated by comparison to the analytical solution for an idealized, hard-soft barrier. A panel comprising a high air-content closed cell foam backed with an elastic (metal) back plate is then examined. The insertion loss of this panel was found to exceed the dynamic range of the measurement system and was thus acoustically impenetrable. Experimental results from such a panel are shown to contain artifacts not present in the diffraction solution, when acoustic waves are incident upon the soft surface. A finite difference analysis of this experimental configuration replicates the presence of the additional field components. Furthermore, the simulated results allow the additional components to be identified as arising from the S(0) and A(0) Lamb modes traveling in the elastic plate. These Lamb mode artifacts are not found to be present in the shadow region when the acoustic waves are incident upon the elastic surface.  相似文献

In this paper, analytical equations are derived for the time-averaged radiation force induced by progressive and standing acoustic waves incident on elastic spherical shells covered with a layer of viscoelastic and sound-absorbing material. The fluid surrounding the shells is considered compressible and nonviscous. The incident field is assumed to be moderate so that the scattered field from the shells is taken to linear approximation. The analytical results are illustrated by means of a numerical example in which the radiation force function curves are displayed, with particular emphasis on the coating thickness and the content of the hollow region of the shells. The fluid-loading on the radiation force function curves is analysed as well. This study attempts to generalize the various treatments of radiation force due to both progressive and standing waves on spherically-shaped structures immersed in ideal fluids. The results show that various ways can be effectively used for damping resonance peaks, such as by changing the fluid in the interior hollow region of the shells or by changing the coating thickness.  相似文献

The method of wave function expansion is adopted to study the scattering of a plane harmonic acoustic wave incident at an arbitrary angle upon an arbitrarily thick cylindrically orthotropic homogeneous cylindrical shell submerged in and filled with compressible ideal fluids. A laminate approximate model and the so-called state space formulation in conjunction with the classical transfer matrix (T-matrix) approach are employed to present an analytical solution based on the three-dimensional exact equations of anisotropic elasticity. The solution is used to correlate the perturbation in the material elastic constants of an air-filled and water-submerged aluminium cylindrical shell to the sensitivity of resonances associated with various modes of wave propagation appearing in the backscattered amplitude spectrum (i.e., axially guided, Lamb, Rayleigh and Whispering Gallery waves). The effects of shell wall thickness as well as inner fluid loading on the frequency response of the shell are also examined. A limiting case is considered and good agreement with the solution available in the literature is obtained.  相似文献

The problem of acoustic radiation from an infinite cylinder undergoing harmonic modal surface vibrations near a locally reacting planar boundary is considered. The formulation utilizes the appropriate wave field expansions, the classical method of images, and the translational addition theorem for cylindrical wave functions, along with a simple local surface reaction model involving a complex amplitude wave reflection coefficient applied to simulate the relevant boundary conditions for the given configuration. The analytical results are illustrated with a numerical example in which the cylindrical surface is immersed near a layer of fibrous material set on an impervious rigid wall. The numerical results reveal the important effects of interface local surface reaction and source position on the computed modal impedance component values and the radiated on-axis far-field pressure. The benchmark solution presented can lead to a better understanding of acoustic radiation from near-interface two-dimensional sources, which are commonly encountered problems in outdoor acoustics and noise control engineering. Eventually, it could be used to validate those found by numerical approximation techniques.  相似文献

An analytical method is applied to investigate the scattering of magneto-electro-elastic waves and dynamic stress around a circular hole in a functionally graded piezoelectric/piezomagnetic material layer. Analytical solutions of the wave, electric and magnetic fields are expressed by employing a wave function expansion method. Analyses show that the piezoelectric and piezomagnetic properties greatly affect the dynamic stress in the region of the intermediate frequency, and the effect increases with increasing non-homogeneous parameter. The effects of the incident wave number and non-homogeneous parameter of the materials on the dynamic stress and electric field are also examined.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the sound radiation from a water-filled exhaust pipe. The pipe opening and a plate attached to it form a vibrating surface for this radiation. Fluid-structural coupling between the pipe and enclosed fluid is included in the system modeling, but light fluid assumption is used for sound radiation into the space above the vibrating surface. In this paper, a numerical study on the n = 0 mode in the pipe shows that the wave types associated with this mode have different characteristics in two regions of the nondimensional frequency omega. The response at the surface of an isotropic viscoelastic medium to buried fundamental acoustic sources is studied theoretically, computationally and experimentally. Finite and infinitesimal monopole and dipole sources within the low audible frequency range (40-400 Hz) are considered. Analytical and numerical integral solutions that account for compression, shear and surface wave response to the buried sources are formulated and compared with numerical finite element simulations and experimental studies on finite dimension phantom models. It is found that at low audible frequencies, compression and shear wave propagation from point sources can both be significant, with shear wave effects becoming less significant as frequency increases. Additionally, it is shown that simple closed-form analytical approximations based on an infinite medium model agree well with numerically obtained "exact" half-space solutions for the frequency range and material of interest in this study. The focus here is on developing a better understanding of how biological soft tissue affects the transmission of vibro-acoustic energy from biological acoustic sources below the skin surface, whose typical spectral content is in the low audible frequency range. Examples include sound radiated from pulmonary, gastro-intestinal and cardiovascular system functions, such as breath sounds, bowel sounds and vascular bruits, respectively.  相似文献

Background and motivation

Previous works investigating the radiation force of diverging spherical progressive waves incident upon spherical particles have demonstrated the direction of reversal of the force when the particle is subjected to a curved wave-front. In this communication, the analysis is extended to the case of diverging cylindrical progressive waves incident upon a rigid or a soft cylinder in a non-viscous fluid with explicit calculations for the radiation force function (which is the radiation force per unit energy density and unit cross-sectional surface) not shown in [F.G. Mitri, Ultrasonics 50 (2010) 620-627].

Method

A closed-form solution presented previously in [F.G. Mitri, Ultrasonics 50 (2010) 620-627] is used to plot the radiation force function with particular emphasis on the difference from the results of incident plane progressive waves versus the size parameter ka (k is the wave number and a is the cylinder’s radius) and the distance of the cylinder from the acoustic source r0.

Results

Radiation force function calculations for the rigid cylinder unexpectedly reveal that under specific conditions determined by the frequency of the acoustic field, the radius of the cylinder, as well as the distance to the acoustic source, the force becomes attractive (negative force). In addition, the numerical results show that the radiation force on a rigid cylinder does not generally obey the inverse-distance law with respect to the distance from the source.

Conclusion and potential applications

These results suggest that it may be possible, under specific conditions, to pull a cylindrical structure back toward the acoustic source using progressive cylindrical diverging waves. They may also provide a means to predict the radiation force required to manipulate non-destructively a single cylindrical structure. Potential applications include the design of a new generation of acoustic tweezers operating using a single beam of progressive waves (in contrast to the traditional version of acoustical tweezers in which an acoustic standing wave field is produced using two counter-propagating acoustic fields) for investigations in the field of flow cytometry, particle manipulation and entrapment.  相似文献

A suitable tool for the simulation of low frequency acoustic pulse signals propagating in a shallow sea is the numerical integration of the nonstationary wave equation. The main feature of such simulation problems is that in this case the sound waves propagate in the geoacoustic waveguide formed by the upper layers of the bottom and the water column. By this reason, the correct dependence of the attenuation of sound waves in the bottom on their frequency must be taken into account. In this paper we obtain an integro-differential equation for the sound waves in the viscoelastic fluid, which allows to simulate the arbitrary dependence of acoustic wave attenuation on frequency in the time domain computations. The procedure of numerical solution of this equation based on its approximation by a system of differential equations is then considered and the methods of artificial limitation of computational domain are described. We also construct a simple finite-difference scheme for the proposed equation suitable for the numerical solution of nonstationary problems arising in the shallow-sea acoustics.  相似文献
