In the previous paper, the author gave linear inequalities on the coefficients of the Alexander polynomials of alternating knots of genus two, which are best possible as linear inequalities on the coefficients of them. In this paper, we give infinitely many Alexander polynomials which satisfy the linear inequalities, but they are not realized by alternating knots. 相似文献

We consider a condition on a pair of the Alexander polynomials of knots which are realizable by a pair of knots with Gordian distance one. We show that there are infinitely many mutually disjoint infinite subsets in the set of the Alexander polynomials of knots such that every pair of distinct elements in each subset is not realizable by any pair of knots with Gordian distance one. As one of the subsets, we have an infinite set containing the Alexander polynomials of the trefoil knot and the figure eight knot. We also show that every pair of distinct Alexander polynomials such that one is the Alexander polynomial of a slice knot is realizable by a pair of knots of Gordian distance one, so that every pair of distinct elements in the infinite subset consisting of the Alexander polynomials of slice knots is realizable by a pair of knots with Gordian distance one. These results solve problems given by Y. Nakanishi and by I. Jong. 相似文献

In this paper, applying Chebyshev polynomials we give a basic proof of the irreducibility over the complex number field of the defining polynomial of SL2(C)-character variety of twist knots in infinitely many cases. The irreducibility, combined with a result in the paper of M. Boileau, S. Boyer, A.W. Reid and S. Wang in 2010, shows the minimality of infinitely many twist knots for a partial order on the set of prime knots defined by using surjective group homomorphisms between knot groups. In Appendix B, we also give a straightforward proof of the result of Boileau et al. 相似文献

Kondo and Sakai independently gave a characterization of Alexander polynomials for knots which are transformed into the trivial knot by a single crossing change. The first author gave a characterization of Alexander polynomials for knots which are transformed into the trefoil knot (and into the figure-eight knot) by a single crossing change. In this note, we will give a characterization of Alexander polynomials for knots which are transformed into the 10132 knot (and into the (5,2)-torus knot) by a single crossing change. Moreover, this method can be applied for knots with monic Alexander polynomials. 相似文献

A knot in the 3-sphere is called doubly slice if it is a slice of an unknotted 2-sphere in the 4-sphere. We give a bi-sequence of new obstructions for a knot being doubly slice. We construct it following the idea of Cochran-Orr-Teichner's filtration of the classical knot concordance group. This yields a bi-filtration of the monoid of knots (under the connected sum operation) indexed by pairs of half integers. Doubly slice knots lie in the intersection of this bi-filtration. We construct examples of knots which illustrate the non-triviality of this bi-filtration at all levels. In particular, these are new examples of algebraically doubly slice knots that are not doubly slice, and many of these knots are slice. Cheeger-Gromov's von Neumann rho invariants play a key role to show non-triviality of this bi-filtration. We also show some classical invariants are reflected at the initial levels of this bi-filtration, and obtain a bi-filtration of the double concordance group. 相似文献

Every element in the first cohomology group of a 3-manifold is dual to embedded surfaces. The Thurston norm measures the minimal ‘complexity’ of such surfaces. For instance the Thurston norm of a knot complement determines the genus of the knot in the 3-sphere. We show that the degrees of twisted Alexander polynomials give lower bounds on the Thurston norm, generalizing work of McMullen and Turaev. Our bounds attain their most concise form when interpreted as the degrees of the Reidemeister torsion of a certain twisted chain complex. We show that these lower bounds give the correct genus bounds for all knots with 12 crossings or less, including the Conway knot and the Kinoshita-Terasaka knot which have trivial Alexander polynomial. We also give obstructions to fibering 3-manifolds using twisted Alexander polynomials and detect all knots with 12 crossings or less that are not fibered. For some of these it was unknown whether or not they are fibered. Our work in particular extends the fibering obstructions of Cha to the case of closed manifolds. 相似文献

In this paper we define a lassoing on a link, a local addition of a trivial knot to a link. Let K be an s-component link with the Conway polynomial non-zero. Let L be a link which is obtained from K by r-iterated lassoings. The complete splitting number split(L) is greater than or equal to r+s−1, and less than or equal to r+split(K). In particular, we obtain from a knot by r-iterated component-lassoings an algebraically completely splittable link L with split(L)=r. Moreover, we construct a link L whose unlinking number is greater than split(L). 相似文献

Bourgoin defined the notion of a twisted link which corresponds to a stable equivalence class of links in oriented thickenings. It is a generalization of a virtual link. Some invariants of virtual links are extended for twisted links including the knot group and the Jones polynomial. In this paper, we generalize a multivariable polynomial invariant of a virtual link to a twisted link. We also introduce a quandle of a twisted link. 相似文献

Y. Miyazawa defined a polynomial invariant for a virtual link by using magnetic graph diagrams, which is related with the Jones-Kauffman polynomial. In this paper we show some relations of this polynomial for a virtual skein triple. 相似文献

Let F be an incompressible, meridionally incompressible and not boundary-parallel surface with boundary in the complement of an algebraic tangle (B,T). Then F separates the strings of T in B and the boundary slope of F is uniquely determined by (B,T) and hence we can define the slope of the algebraic tangle. In addition to the Conway's tangle sum, we define a natural product of two tangles. The slopes and binary operation on algebraic tangles lead to an algebraic structure which is isomorphic to the rational numbers. We introduce a new knot and link class, algebraically alternating knots and links, roughly speaking which are constructed from alternating knots and links by replacing some crossings with algebraic tangles. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a closed surface to be incompressible and meridionally incompressible in the complement of an algebraically alternating knot or link K. In particular we show that if K is a knot, then the complement of K does not contain such a surface. 相似文献

Kishino's knot is not detected by the fundamental group or the bracket polynomial. However, we can show that Kishino's knot is not equivalent to the unknot by applying either the 3-strand bracket polynomial or the surface bracket polynomial. In this paper, we construct two non-trivial virtual knot diagrams, KD and Km, that are not detected by the 1-strand or the 2-strand bracket polynomial. From these diagrams, we construct two infinite families of non-classical virtual knot diagrams that are not detected by the bracket polynomial. Additionally, these virtual knot diagrams are trivial as flats. 相似文献

We prove that then-fold cyclic coverings of the 3-sphere branched over the torus knotsK(p,q), p>q2 (i.e. the Brieskorn manifolds in the sense of [12]) admit spines corresponding to cyclic presentations of groups ifp1 (modq). These presentations include as a very particular case the Sieradski groups, first introduced in [14] and successively obtained from geometric constructions in [4], [9], and [15]. So our main theorem answers in affirmative to an open question suggested by the referee in [14]. Then we discuss a question concerning cyclic presentations of groups and Alexander polynomials of knots.Work Performed under the auspicies of the G.N.S.A.G.A. of the C.N.R. By considering a (not necessarily locally-flat) PL knot as the singular locus of a PL stratified pseudomanifold, we can use intersection homology theory to define intersection Alexander polynomials, a generalization of the classical Alexander polynomial invariants for smooth or PL locally-flat knots. We show that the intersection Alexander polynomials satisfy certain duality and normalization conditions analogous to those of ordinary Alexander polynomials, and we explore the relationships between the intersection Alexander polynomials and certain generalizations of the classical Alexander polynomials that are defined for non-locally-flat knots. We also investigate the relations between the intersection Alexander polynomials of a knot and the intersection and classical Alexander polynomials of the link knots around the singular strata. To facilitate some of these investigations, we introduce spectral sequences for the computation of the intersection homology of certain stratified bundles. 相似文献

Given a finite, connected 2-complex X such that b2(X)?1 we establish two existence results for representations of the fundamental group of X into compact connected Lie groups G , with prescribed values on certain loops. If b2(X)=1 we assume G=SO(3) and that the cup product on H1(X;Q) is non-zero. 相似文献
