A novel distyryl BODIPY–fullerene dyad is prepared. Upon excitation at the distyryl BODIPY moiety, the dyad undergoes photoinduced electron transfer to give a charge‐separated state with lifetimes of 476 ps and 730 ps in polar (benzonitrile) and nonpolar (toluene) solvents, respectively. Transient absorption measurements show the formation of the triplet excited state of distyryl BODIPY in the dyad, which is populated from charge‐recombination processes in both solvents. 相似文献

To harvest energy from the near‐infrared (near‐IR) and infrared (IR) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, which constitutes nearly 70 % of the solar radiation, there is a great demand for near‐IR and IR light‐absorbing sensitizers that are capable of undergoing ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer when connected to a suitable electron acceptor. Towards achieving this goal, in the present study, we report multistep syntheses of dyads derived from structurally modified BF2‐chelated azadipyrromethene (ADP; to extend absorption and emission into the near‐IR region) and fullerene as electron‐donor and electron‐acceptor entities, respectively. The newly synthesized dyads were fully characterized based on optical absorbance, fluorescence, geometry optimization, and electrochemical studies. The established energy level diagram revealed the possibility of electron transfer either from the singlet excited near‐IR sensitizer or singlet excited fullerene. Femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption studies were performed to gather evidence of excited state electron transfer and to evaluate the kinetics of charge separation and charge recombination processes. These studies revealed the occurrence of ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer leading to charge stabilization in the dyads, and populating the triplet states of ADP, benzanulated‐ADP and benzanulated thiophene‐ADP in the respective dyads, and triplet state of C60 in the case of BF2‐chelated dipyrromethene derived dyad during charge recombination. The present findings reveal that these sensitizers are suitable for harvesting light energy from the near‐IR region of the solar spectrum and for building fast‐responding optoelectronic devices operating under near‐IR radiation input. 相似文献

The decakis(trifluoromethyl)fullerene C1‐C70(CF3)10, in which the CF3 groups are arranged on a para7‐meta‐para ribbon of C6(CF3)2 edge‐sharing hexagons, and which has now been prepared in quantities of hundreds of milligrams, was reacted under standard Bingel–Hirsch conditions with a bis‐π‐extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) malonate derivative to afford a single exTTF2–C70(CF3)10 regioisomer in 80 % yield based on consumed starting material. The highly soluble hybrid was thoroughly characterized by using 1D 1H, 13C, and 19F NMR, 2D NMR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy; matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry; and electrochemistry. The cyclic voltammogram of the exTTF2–C70(CF3)10 dyad revealed an irreversible second reduction process, which is indicative of a typical retro‐Bingel reaction; whereas the usual phenomenon of exTTF inverted potentials (${E{{1\hfill \atop {\rm ox}\hfill}}}$ >${E{{2\hfill \atop {\rm ox}\hfill}}}$ ), resulting in a single, two‐electron oxidation process, was also observed. Steady‐state and time‐resolved photolytic techniques demonstrated that the C1‐C70(CF3)10 singlet excited state is subject to a rapid electron‐transfer quenching. The resulting charge‐separated states were identified by transient absorption spectroscopy, and radical pair lifetimes of the order of 300 ps in toluene were determined. The exTTF2–C70(CF3)10 dyad represents the first example of exploitation of the highly soluble trifluoromethylated fullerenes for the construction of systems able to mimic the photosynthetic process, and is therefore of interest in the search for new materials for photovoltaic applications. 相似文献

Understanding the mechanism of efficient photoinduced electron‐transfer processes is essential for developing molecular systems for artificial photosynthesis. Towards this goal, we describe the synthesis of a donor–acceptor dyad comprising a zinc porphyrin donor and a tetracationic cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) (CBPQT4+) acceptor. The X‐ray crystal structure of the dyad reveals the formation of a dimeric motif through the intermolecular coordination between the triazole nitrogen and the central Zn metal of two adjacent units of the dyad. Photoinduced electron transfer within the dyad in MeCN was investigated by femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, as well as by transient EPR spectroscopy. Photoexcitation of the dyad produced a weakly coupled ZnP+.–CBPQT3+. spin‐correlated radical‐ion pair having a τ=146 ns lifetime and a spin–spin exchange interaction of only 0.23 mT. The long radical‐ion‐pair lifetime results from weak donor–acceptor electronic coupling as a consequence of having nine bonds between the donor and the acceptor, and the reduction in reorganization energy for electron transfer caused by charge dispersal over both paraquat units within CBPQT3+.. 相似文献

New multi‐modular donor–acceptor conjugates featuring zinc porphyrin (ZnP), catechol‐chelated boron dipyrrin (BDP), triphenylamine (TPA) and fullerene (C60), or naphthalenediimide (NDI) have been newly designed and synthesized as photosynthetic antenna and reaction‐center mimics. The X‐ray structure of triphenylamine‐BDP is also reported. The wide‐band capturing polyad revealed ultrafast energy‐transfer (kENT=1.0×1012 s?1) from the singlet excited BDP to the covalently linked ZnP owing to close proximity and favorable orientation of the entities. Introducing either fullerene or naphthalenediimide electron acceptors to the TPA‐BDP‐ZnP triad through metal–ligand axial coordination resulted in electron donor–acceptor polyads whose structures were revealed by spectroscopic, electrochemical and computational studies. Excitation of the electron donor, zinc porphyrin resulted in rapid electron‐transfer to coordinated fullerene or naphthalenediimide yielding charge separated ion‐pair species. The measured electron transfer rate constants from femtosecond transient spectral technique in non‐polar toluene were in the range of 5.0×109–3.5×1010 s?1. Stabilization of the charge‐separated state in these multi‐modular donor–acceptor polyads is also observed to certain level. 相似文献

An electron‐donor‐acceptor‐acceptor (D‐A1‐A2) triad has been developed that provides the first proof‐of‐concept for a photoinitiated molecular circuit. After photoexcitation into an optical charge‐transfer transition between D and A1, subsequent thermal electron‐transfer from A1.? to A2 is followed by geometric rearrangement in the D.+‐A1‐A2.? charge‐separated state to form an ion‐pair contact. This facilitates “forward” charge recombination between A2.? and D.+ to complete the molecular circuit with an estimated quantum efficiency of 4 % in toluene at 298 K. 相似文献

Embedding endohdedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) into electron donor–acceptor systems is still a challenging task owing to their limited quantities and their still largely unexplored chemical properties. In this study, we have performed a 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reaction of a corrole‐based precursor with Sc3N@C80 to regioselectively form a [5,6]‐adduct ( 1 ). The successful attachment of the corrole moiety was confirmed by mass spectrometry. In the electronic ground state, absorption spectra suggest sizeable electronic communications between the electron acceptor and the electron donor. Moreover, the addition pattern occurring at a [5,6]‐bond junction is firmly proven by NMR spectroscopy and electrochemical investigations performed with 1 . In the electronically excited state, which is probed in photophysical assays with 1 , a fast electron‐transfer yields the radical ion pair state consisting of the one‐electron‐reduced Sc3N@C80 and of the one‐electron‐oxidized corrole upon its exclusive photoexcitation. As such, our results shed new light on the practical work utilizing EMFs as building blocks in photovoltaics. 相似文献

A new approach to probe the effect of graphene on photochemical charge separation in donor–acceptor conjugates is devised. For this, multimodular donor–acceptor conjugates, composed of three molecules of pyrene, a subphthalocyanine, and a fullerene C60 ((Pyr)3SubPc‐C60), have been synthesized and characterized. These systems were hybridized on few‐layer graphene through π–π stacking interactions of the three pyrene moieties. The hybrids were characterized using Raman, HRTEM, and spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The energy levels of the donor–acceptor conjugates were fine‐tuned upon interaction with graphene and photoinduced charge separation in the absence and presence of graphene was studied by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Accelerated charge separation and recombination was detected in these graphene‐decorated conjugates suggesting that they could be used as materials for fast‐responding optoelectronic devices and in light energy harvesting applications. 相似文献

We have synthesized two new low‐molecular‐mass organogelators based on tri‐p‐phenylene vinylene derivatives, one of which could be designated as the donor whereas the other one is an acceptor. These were prepared specifically to show the intergelator interactions at the molecular level by using donor–acceptor self‐assembly to achieve appropriate control over their macroscopic properties. Intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding, π‐stacking, and van der Waals interactions operate for both the individual components and the mixtures, leading to the formation of gels in the chosen organic solvents. Evidence for intergelator interactions was acquired from various spectroscopic, microscopic, thermal, and mechanical investigations. Due to the photochromic nature of these molecules, interesting photophysical properties, such as solvatochromism and J‐type aggregation, were clearly observed. An efficient energy transfer was exhibited by the mixture of donor–acceptor assemblies. An array of four chromophores was built up by inclusion of two known dyes (anthracene and rhodamine 6G) for the energy‐transfer studies. Interestingly, an energy‐transfer cascade was observed in the assembly of four chromophores in a particular order (anthracene‐donor‐acceptor‐rhodamine 6G), and if one of the components was removed from the assembly the energy transfer process was discontinued. This allowed the build up of a light‐harvesting process with a wide range. Excitation at one end produces an emission at the other end of the assembly. 相似文献

A zinc phthalocyanine endowed with four [18]‐crown‐6 moieties, ZnPcTeCr, has been prepared and self‐assembled with either pyridyl‐functionalized perylenebisimides (PDI‐Py) or fullerenes (C60‐Py) to afford a set of novel electron donor–acceptor hybrids. In the case of ZnPcTeCr, aggregation has been circumvented by the addition of potassium or rubidium ions to lead to the formation of monomers and cofacial dimers, respectively. From fluorescence titration experiments, which gave rise to mutual interactions between the electron donors and the acceptors in the excited state, the association constants of the respective ZnPcTeCr monomers and/or dimers with the corresponding electron acceptors were derived. Complementary transient‐absorption experiments not only corroborated photoinduced electron transfer from ZnPcTeCr to either PDI‐Py or C60‐Py within the electron donor–acceptor hybrids, but also the unexpected photoinduced electron transfer within ZnPcTeCr dimers. In the electron donor–acceptor hybrids, the charge‐separated‐state lifetimes were elucidated to be close to 337 ps and 3.4 ns for the two PDI‐Pys, whereas the longest lifetime for the photoactive system that contains C60‐Py was calculated to be approximately 5.1 ns. 相似文献

The first examples of rodlike donor–photosensitizer–acceptor arrays based on bis‐2,6‐di(quinolin‐8‐yl)pyridine RuII complexes 1 a and 3 a for photoinduced electron transfer have been synthesized and investigated. The complexes are synthesized in a convergent manner and are isolated as linear, single isomers. Time‐resolved absorption spectroscopy reveals long‐lived, photoinduced charge‐separated states (τCSS ( 1 a )=140 ns, τCSS ( 3 a )=200 ns) formed by stepwise electron transfer. The overall yields of charge separation (≥50 % for complex 1 a and ≥95 % for complex 3 a ) are unprecedented for bis‐tridentate RuII polypyridyl complexes. This is attributed to the long‐lived excited state of the [Ru(dqp)2]2+ complex combined with fast electron transfer from the donor moiety following the initial charge separation. The rodlike arrangement of donor and acceptor gives controlled, vectorial electron transfer, free from the complications of stereoisomeric diversity. Thus, such arrays provide an excellent system for the study of photoinduced electron transfer and, ultimately, the harvesting of solar energy. 相似文献

Two donor–bridge–acceptor conjugates (5,10,15,20‐tetrakis[4‐(N,N‐diphenylaminobenzoate)phenyl] porphyrin (TPPZ) and 5,10,15,20‐tetrakis[4‐(N,N‐diphenylaminostyryl)phenyl] porphyrin (TPPX)) were covalently linked to triphenylamine (TPA) at the meso‐position of porphyrin ring. The triphenylamine entities were expected to act as energy donors and the porphyrins to act as an energy acceptor. In this paper, we report on the synthesis of these multibranched‐porphyrin‐functionalized Pt nanocomposites. The conjugates used here not only served as a stabilizer to prevent agglomeration of Pt nanoparticles, but also as a light‐harvesting photosensitizer. The occurrence of photoinduced electron‐transfer processes was confirmed by time‐resolved fluorescence and photoelectrochemical spectral measurements. The different efficiencies for energy and electron transfer in the two multibranched porphyrins and the functionalized Pt nanocomposites were attributed to diverse covalent linkages. Moreover, in the reduction of water to produce H2, the photocatalytic activity of the Pt nanocomposite functionalized by TPPX, in which the triphenylamine and porphyrin moieties are bonded through an ethylene bridge, was much higher than that of the platinum nanocomposite functionalized by TPPZ, in which the two moieties are bonded through an ester. This investigation demonstrates the fundamental advantages of constructing donor–bridge–acceptor conjugates as highly efficient photosensitizers based on efficient energy and electron transfer. 相似文献

Electron transfer can readily occur over long (≥15 Å) distances. Usually reaction rates decrease with increasing distance between donors and acceptors, but theory predicts a regime in which electron‐transfer rates increase with increasing donor–acceptor separation. This counter‐intuitive behavior can result from the interplay of reorganization energy and electronic coupling, but until now experimental studies have failed to provide unambiguous evidence for this effect. We report here on a homologous series of rigid rodlike donor‐bridge‐acceptor compounds in which the electron‐transfer rate increases by a factor of 8 when the donor–acceptor distance is extended from 22.0 to 30.6 Å, and then it decreases by a factor of 188 when the distance is increased further to 39.2 Å. This effect has important implications for solar energy conversion. 相似文献

Double the fun! Singlet–triplet dual emission at ambient temperature has been achieved in compounds containing a triarylboron acceptor and an N‐(2′‐pyridyl)‐7‐azaindolyl donor group bridged by a tetrahedral Si linker (see figure). PtII chelation and chelate‐mode switching from N,N to N,C have been found to greatly enhance phosphorescent emission. Furthermore, both singlet and triplet emission bands are responsive to fluoride ions.

The first Lewis acid catalyzed enantioselective ring‐opening desymmetrization of a donor–acceptor meso‐diaminocyclopropane is reported. The copper(II)‐catalyzed Friedel–Crafts alkylation of indoles and one pyrrole with an unprecedented meso‐diaminocyclopropane delivered enantioenriched, diastereomerically pure urea products, which are structurally related to natural and synthetic bioactive compounds. The development of a new ligand through the investigation of an underexplored subclass of bis(oxazoline) ligands was essential for achieving high enantioselectivities. 相似文献

Reaction of 2,4,6‐trichloro‐1,3,5‐triazine with lithiated tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) in stoichiometric conditions, followed by treatment with sodium methanolate, provides mono‐ and bis(TTF)–triazines as new covalently linked (multi)donor–acceptor systems. Single‐crystal X‐ray analyses reveal planar structures for both compounds, with formation of peculiar segregated donor and acceptor stacks for the mono(TTF)–triazine compound, while mixed TTF–triazine stacks establish in the case of the bis(TTF) derivative. Cyclic voltammetry measurements show reversible oxidation of the TTF units, at rather low potential, with no splitting of the oxidation waves in the case of the dimeric TTF, whereas irreversible reduction of the triazine core is observed. Intramolecular charge transfer is experimentally evidenced through solution electronic absorption spectroscopy. Time‐dependent DFT calculations allow the assignment of the charge transfer band to singlet transitions from the HOMO of the donor(s) to the LUMO of the acceptor. Solution EPR measurements correlated with theoretical calculations were performed in order to characterize the oxidized species. In both cases the spectra show very stable radical species and contain a triplet of doublet pattern, in agreement with the coupling of the unpaired electron with the three TTF protons. The dication of the bis(TTF)–triazine is paramagnetic, but no spin–spin exchange interaction could be detected. 相似文献

A range of covalently linked donor–acceptor compounds which contain 1) a hydroquinone (HQ) unit, 2) a 1,5‐dioxynaphthalene (DNP) ring system, or 3) a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) unit as the π‐donor, and 4) cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) (CBPQT4+) as the π‐accepting tetracationic cyclophane were prepared and shown to operate as simple molecular machines. The π‐donating arms can be included inside the cyclophane in an intramolecular fashion by virtue of stabilizing noncovalent bonding interactions. What amounts to self‐complexing/decomplexing equilibria were shown to be highly temperature dependent when the π‐donating arm contains either an HQ or DNP moiety. The thermodynamic parameters associated with the equilibria have been unraveled by using variable‐temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy. The negative ΔH° and ΔS° values account for the fact that the “uncomplexed” conformation becomes the dominant species, since the entropy gain associated with the decomplexation process overcomes the enthalpy loss resulting from the breaking of the donor–acceptor interactions. The arm's in‐and‐out movements with respect to the linked cyclophanes can be arrested by installing a bulky substituent at the end of the arm. In the case of compounds carrying a DNP ring system in their side arm, two diastereoisomeric, self‐complexing conformations are observed below 272 K in hexadeuterioacetone. By contrast, control over the TTF‐containing arm's movement is more or less ineffective through the thermally sensitive equilibrium although it can be realized by chemical and electrochemical ways as a result of TTF's excellent redox properties. Such self‐complexing compounds could find applications as thermo‐ and electroswitches. In addition, the thermochromism associated with the arm's movement could lead to some of the compounds finding uses as imaging and sensing materials. 相似文献
